This is a re-release expanded from a short story to a full-length novel.

Leticia Washington did something she wasn't supposed to and purposely trespassed protected land. The Supai Reservation. Her willful choice led to events that trapped her in a world she wasn't sure how to navigate. Away from friends and family. Tied her to a man that - well - she wasn't sure what he was. Mistakes would cost her dearly.

Jace Long Feather was on patrol when he was shot. He didn't expect his savior would be the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. Despite their differences, he would never let her go. What were a few obstacles? Elders, hunters... species? Anything could be overcome with a little planning and a few threats.

His biggest problem. Getting Leticia to go along with everything.

Writing has always been her passion but fate sometimes has other roads that must first be taken . Navigating the road less traveled was not only unexpected but in the end extremely rewarding. Her books are mainly contemporary romance but she has delved into the paranormal and plans on expanding into other areas as the ideas come to her. 2.5 stars.

The plot was intriguing and I loved that the MMC was Indigenous.

Beyond that, there were many grammatical and spelling errors along with character continuity issues.

The behavior of the FMC was odd. She's an intelligent PhD candidate working on her thesis. Then she meets the MMC (who is a bird shifter) in his bird form and then he transforms back to his human form. Obviously, the FMC would be shocked and surprised but in the book she proceeds to go on and on about how this must be a dream or a coma or she's dead and on the other side. Repeatedly saying things like, "Ok, dream bird man." and "Are you Batman?" Wtf....why would she be acting so ditzy? The ditzy 'teehee' act went on for way too long for a woman that is definitely smart and wasn't portrayed as silly or goofy in the least at the beginning of the story.

The shift from the FMC not wanting anything to do with being his mate to being 100% on board was just hurriedly shoehorned in and not really transitioned to well. The ending was also hurried.

The spice was ok, but not great. There was so much awkward, odd verbiage used during the spicy scenes. For instance, her 'cove', nuts, snatch, essence, cream, pearl....took me right out of the scenes.

1.50 Stars. (BW/NAM). 137 page Kindle Edition e-book
SETTING: Modern day in the western region of Grand Canyon California.
TROPE: Fated mate. Shifter and human romance.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
1. LETICIA "LETTIE" WASHINGTON, female lead, is working toward a doctorate in botany and is gathering specimens to use for her thesis.
2. JACE LONG FEATHER, male lead, is the Sheriff at the Supai Reservation and next in line to become Chief and he shifts into a California Condor.
3. "LEO" LEONARDO WASHINGTON is Lettie's twin brother.
4. JEREMIAH LONG FEATHER is Jace's father and Chief of Supai Tribe.

I chose this story because it featured a romance between an indigenous male leading character and a black female lead. I was disappointed in the story because Lettie's character came across as silly considering her age and level of education. The male lead, Jace was driven by his libido. I returned the book because it failed to come anywhere near my expectation.
