Unforgettable

Rate this book
The sequel and conclusion of Unforgiven.

In Unforgiven, Darren and Bailey proved forgiveness is possible even after a painful past, but absolution isn’t the end of their story. Trust has to be rebuilt, faith restored, and the strength of their bond tested.

They may have stopped battling each other, but that doesn’t mean the fight is over. And life has a way of packing the biggest punch—the most painful…

When life throws a curve ball, the future they fought so hard for is at risk. And when Bailey’s resolve is weakened, Darren has to carry them both. She may be his world, but is he strong enough to shoulder the weight of that responsibility? Her trust in him is critical, but has forgiveness given her enough peace to put her every hope and dream in his hands?

A woman forgiven… A man redeemed… A love unforgettable…

Unforgettable is the sequel to one of my most favorite and memorable books of last year- Unforgiven. Darren and Bailey’s story was painful to read. It hurt at times. My heart broke for the both of them. The sequel wasn’t an easy read by any means, it had it’s fair share of heartbreak and devastation, but there was also a lot of healing, a lot of love and that is a thing of beauty.

Darren and Bailey have been through more than any couple should have to go through. They have endured so much and it’s taken a lot of time to get to the place they are now. And they still aren’t in the best of places. Darren loves Bailey, he’s forgiven her and she’s forgiven him. They love each other, but their relationship is still hard. It’s still constantly tested. They both go through moments where they wonder- is love enough?

“What if being in love isn’t enough?”

 photo 3ecbb344-338b-4953-8df3-b0ce40ba56c7_zpsfc0f1401.jpg

Darren hurt Bailey. He’s trying to make amends for that. He’s treated her so poorly in the past, and he regrets it. If you had issues with Darren and his behavior in book one, I understand. Even though I loved him in the first book, I didn’t condone his behavior or the way he treated Bailey. I feel like he more than made up for it in this one.

Bailey doesn’t have an easy go of things. Even though she has Darren in her life and she’s happy with him, her past is still thrown in her face constantly. Trying to get a job, getting looks from people in town- she has to endure her fair share of difficulties. No matter what she goes through in this book, Darren has her back. He is there for her. As long as they are together, everything has to be okay.
“Through the good. Through bad. Through the scary. Through the sad. Always together.”

When I first started reading this, I really thought it would be more of a sunshine and rainbows book. I mean, we went through a lot of devastation in the first book, we deserve that, right? Well... maybe not. This book was draining in some spots. Emotionally draining. My heart hurt yet again. I’m going to stress that even though this couple does get happy, this is still a fairly heavy and emotional read.

Elizabeth Finn’s writing. What can I say about it that I haven’t said before? This woman can write. She proves it time and time again and this was no exception. And the steam was turned way up. And she can write some fantastic sex scenes. You will not be disappointed when it comes to that.

Darren and Bailey’s story is one that will stay with me. It’s a story about how one mistake can change your entire life. A story about the power of forgiveness and healing. But most importantly, it’s an unforgettable story about love and doing anything and everything for the person you love, keeping that love strong and alive. There were moments I was heartbroken, stressed out and upset, but by the end I had a smile on my face. The epilogue was just what I needed and made me a very happy reader. If your looking for my ‘words’ I’ll have to go with Intense, emotional, steamy, trusting and heartfelt. This is a series I highly recommend.

I enjoyed this book much more this time around than the last.

Well dang! What a depressing conclusion to Darren and Bailey's story. I knew this book wouldn't be hearts and roses but, my goodness, hasn't this couple been through enough?!

I understand why this book was necessary, and I even agree with the author delving into all the issues these two face now that they're together. The plot, however, lacked balance and because of that, I didn't particularly enjoyed reading it. At least the ending put a smile on my face.

Even though Unforgettable was more depressing than uplifting, I can't help but love Elizabeth Finn's brand of torture. Her writing is always top notch, her plots compelling, and her character multilayered and believable. But, boy, do I need to read a fluffy, feel-good read after finishing this one.

3.5 Emotional Stars

If you're willing to fight for something... the sky's the limit.

I adore Elizabeth Finn's writing, and Unforgiven was one of my very favorite books by her. It was such an emotionally gripping, poignant and unforgettable story of loss and forgiveness. Darren was a hero that I loved to hate and just plain loved. My heart broke for him and and for Bailey. After everything that they went through in their book, I was so excited to see that the author had a second book in store for them. Unforgiven ripped my heart to shreds, and I needed a follow up on their story to put things to right for me. Perhaps it was that expectation of mine that somewhat diminished my enjoyment of this book? So let me preface this by saying that Unforgettable was an incredibly well written, emotional, and touching story about forgiveness and healing. Just because I'm rating this 3 stars doesn't mean I didn't like it. I did. There were just a few issues I had with it that kept it from being the 5 stars that Unforgiven was for me.
The unavoidable truth was they were at the beginning of this journey, and making it through intact wasn't a guarantee.

It was clear that even when Bailey and Darren got their HEA in the previous book, they still had a long road ahead of them. Forgiveness may be a choice, but it is never an easy one. Both of them still struggle with the choices they made; Bailey will the guilt of the past and her fear of getting hurt by Darren, and Darren's fear of ever hurting Bailey the same way again. I have to say that as much of an asshole as Darren was in the last book, he more than makes up for it in this one.
I used to think I needed to forget you if I was ever going to be happy..."
She nodded subtly.
"God, I was so wrong."

He tries so hard to atone for his callous treatment of Bailey from the past. I was swooning so hard over him in this book. His love for her is so evident and beautiful to read. I couldn't get enough of it.

I found myself falling in love with this couple all over again. Unfortunately somewhere around the 30% mark, I also found my interest in them beginning to wane a little. I'm not sure why, but it felt too drawn out for me. I understand that they needed this time for healing, but I'm not sure if I like the amount of time that it was. It almost felt like a filler. An emotionally charged and well written filler, but filler nonetheless.

I think my biggest quibble has to be the tone of the book. For everything that they went through in the last one, I wanted more happy times for them in this one. And that just didn't happen. It was another emotional and heartbreaking struggle, and it was just too much for me. After everything that this couple has already survived, for them to go through even more was just depressing.

It may just be my expectations working against me, since I would have rather gotten a HEA epilogue type novella for them. While it was great to get that insight into their therapy and healing, I though it could have also been at least half the length. There was a lot of internal monologue, and even the sex read like a filler at times as well.

After the 30% mark I found myself getting a little bored. But then Elizabeth Finns hit me upside the head with such a crazy case of the feels at the 60% mark, I didn't know what to do with myself. It was gut wrenching. I was an emotional mess. And at the same time I almost hated that they had to go through even MORE than what they have already been through.

I did love that they finally got the MUCH needed HEA and epilogue that they so dearly deserved. I just wish their road to it wasn't quite as depressing and emotional as it was. But the ending was absolutely beautiful.
He hadn't deserved a second chance with her, but she'd given it to him regardless. "Starting over" meant a gift, a blessing.

If you loved Unforgiven, I highly recommend reading this book as it will give you the closure that you need for this couple. Just be prepared. This is not sunshine and rainbows and unicorns. It may not have been as emotionally devastating as the first book, but it will still hit you right in the feels.

Edit 11/5
I'm bumping my 3 stars to a 3.5 since it's days later that I finished and I still can't stop thinking about it. I definitely loved the first book, but this was a great follow up

”My life, my universe, my everything, my unforgettable.”

description

I’m one of the very few who had issues with Darren in book one. He won me over in this book and it happened to my surprise very early on in the story. My past issue was that he really should have felt some sort of responsibility/guilt for handing off those damn keys and of course his cruel treatment of Bailey. However, in this book he is absolutely wonderful and is completely forgiven by this reader.

Sadly, this story was way too drawn out for my tastes. I actually took a few days break from it and went back because the cycle of issue, sadness and sex just didn’t’ work or hold my attention. All those journal entries by both characters although beautiful were pretty depressing as were the dreams sequences. The sex scenes felt like every five pages you get another and it was just too many although Elizabeth Finn can sure write great sex scenes.

The writing is indeed very strong and does warrant 4 stars or more but I did have to take a break and the ending even though it was sweet even that felt draggy to me. I think if this story would have been condensed into a novella it would have been a winner for me.

Overall, the characters were lovable and I believe readers will fall for Darren and Bailey even harder after this second book and be content with how their story ends.

3.5 stars!

I had very high expectations for this book considering Unforgiven was one of my best books last year. So I have to say, while this was an okay read, it didn't achieve a place on my favorite shelf.

I know most of the reviews from the last book highlighted how awful Darren was to Bailey. And I agree. I did love how he redeemed himself in this book. That's one of the highlight for me in this book.

Unforgiven given ended on a hopeful note. While not many people were convinced of their HEA, I wasn't one of those. That said, I feel that this book succeeded in cementing Dare and Bailey's HEA.

So why only 3.5?

Well, for one, this book was too long. The story dragged along until about 63% in when the story finally got interesting. Elizabeth Finn writes these intense and exquisite inner monologues but those didn't work for me here. Again, I blamed the length.

Second, as much as I loved Bailey in the first book, she disappointed me in this installment. I sympathized with her plight and her need to make something of herself but she became whiny and weak for me. Where was the girl who faced the Dare and the whole town in the first book. Her character was much stronger in the first book.

Other than that, this was an okay read for me. I wish I loved it more, but some things just didn't work for me.

My Thoughts - Story

Feelings as soon as finishing…

Dear Ms. Finn,

What have you done to me? I am in a reading coma right now because of the angst and obstacles you have created between Darren and Bailey.  After Unforgiven, I would have thought you would give this couple at least a tiny break…BUT NOOOO….you throw them right under the bus of future doom.  Not only must they work through their past, but Bailey still has the town shunning her.  Darren is petrified he will say the wrong thing to make Bailey run again.  Their therapist seems to make them more and more confused.

And wait….as soon as a bit of sunshine peeks through the clouds…you make it fucking rain…oh noooo…not just rain – IT’s A TORNADO!

After the epilogue – I do have to say you redeemed yourself. (still love you)

Summary of feelings after reading…it’s like having a craving or addiction for chocolate but get a toothache and want to eat it…but the enjoyment is painful.

Re-Cap
I can’t divulge too much without giving the story away – but you MUST read the first book to understand anything about this one.

We pick up a bit after Unforgiven with Darren and Bailey wanting to work through their past in order to have a happy future.  They decide to go to counseling in order to help with this. Questions and second-guessing get the best of Bailey and she decides to take a step back with their relationship.

Shit happens….in fact….a ton of shit happens

Then we have the epilogue!

I can't believe what I'm about to say...but if it weren't for Darren I think UNFORGETTABLE would have been a DNF for me :(

After finishing UNFORGIVEN I couldn't get my hands fast enough on the next instalment. Bailey & Darren - finally together!

I knew it wouldn't be easy...
I knew they still had a long way to go before achieving their well deserved HEA. It was just too much for my taste.

And all that crying... As much as I loved Bailey in UNFORGIVEN - her constant crying really got on my nerves.

What I absolutely loved about this book? Definitely DARREN ...this man is PERFECTION!

He never gave up - he constantly fought for both of them.

Even if I didn't love it as much as the first book, I still really liked it - THANKS TO DARREN

3.75 Angst filled stars....

I struggled rating this one.. I leaned towards a 5 at times, the towards a 3 or 4. This was honestly a difficult book for me to rate. And I LOVE Elizabeth Finn and her writing style.. she knows how to throw some drama down and make your heart bleed sometimes! Ok, so on to my review..

I definitely did enjoy reading this this continuation of Bailey and Darren's rollercoaster relationship...no matter how hard it hurt sometimes.. but wow, was it gut wrenching! I didn't think it was possible for this couple to go through more than they did in Unforgiven, but I was certainly wrong...

In Unforgiven, Bailey was constantly CONSTANTLY trying to make up for the tragic accident she was partially responsible for. I say partially, because well.. I never felt like she should have held all of the blame. Not only did she beat herself up about it.. but everyone else did too. Especially Darren. The majority of Unforgiven was Darren letting Bailey know constantly that he would never forgive her for what she had done.. but at the same time he would not let her go// he loved her. It was the ultimate love/hate relationship. At least from Darren's side... But by the end of Unforgiven.. that's exactly what Darren had done. He had forgiven Bailey.. Part of me didn't think these two had any chance at all and they should have just parted ways-- so so much anger and mis-trust and just.. such an emotional thing for them to bridge. But they had found a way to do it..

Then Elizabeth decided to give us more. I'll admit at first I was quite leery of reading more of Darren and Bailey. I just couldn't stand to see Bailey beat up any more by Darren. But a surprise here.. Darren did the opposite. Darren's main goal in life in Unforgettable was to show Bailey how much he loved her, how horribly he felt for how he treated her.. Bailey is trying to move on also.. but Darren hurt her so badly.. This book was Bailey's struggle with believing that her and Darren could really have their happily ever after... it was a constant battle for her.. her heart loved Darren so deeply, but she was just so afraid to believe that that Darren wouldn't hurt her again. Throw in a town that wasn't ready to let things go and things were tuff for Bailey all over. The town would not let her forget and they were rude and offensive..

What an emotional journey this was.. the things that held me back from giving this one 4 or even 5 stars was the town was a total turn off for me.. I think it would have been better for the town to open to Bailey and draw her back in to the fold. I thought it was a little unrealistic to believe that the entire town would hold such a vendetta against her... and then, just when you think that there could not be possibly anything else that could happen to Bailey and Darren-- we were hit hard with more emotional turmoil that I didn't thing was necessary, considering how much they had already been through. I needed more happiness for Darren and Bailey and not so much trouble. These two deserve to have some happiness. And they did finally get their happy.. but I would have been loved if more of the book could have focused on some positives instead of so much negative..

So there you go.. if you love angst... if you love those story's that piss you off so bad you want to scream, but then make you cry and smile.. then this series is for you... Elizabeth has a way of creating characters that you feel invested in so much that no matter what hell she throw your way, you'll continue reading just to get to that page that makes all that drama OK.

3.5 - 4 ★'s

Unforgettable? Well, it was pretty forgettable. It read like a really, really long epilogue of Darren and Bailey. It continues from when they got back together to how they learn to deal with their issues.

But the one person that definitely is unforgettable is Darren or Dare as I prefer to call him. I really didn't care for him in the first book, that is, besides his dirty talking. He was sooo cruel but he's really changed. He tries so hard to work things out with Bailey and he only wants the best for her.

Bailey really changed too but not in a good way. All her feistiness is MIA! What the heck happened? Granted she's had some pretty horrible things happen to her and I guess it's taken its toll. Her and Dare start going to therapy and it's recommending to start a journal...the only problem is she writes to dead people!

description

But to be fair, it does seem like this helped her to move on and "the dead people" helped her believe in herself.

And this book is quite steamy. Dare loves to talk dirty and the dirtier the better. It always busts me up when he tries to get Bailey to say things. The only thing that was bit a much was all the back door luvins...and the "extras" in that area. I was really surprised at Dare!

description

There is some drama but I just felt it didn't quite go far enough. Except for the one event towards the end...that did get me a bit teary eyed even though I saw it coming.

I did like how they worked things out but there were still some issues that weren't addressed such as what Dare was up to when Bailey was in prison and how could he not check up on her. And I felt really bad for her still riding around on that dang bike...the punishment seemed a bit severe.

(I can't help but picture this:)
description

The actual epilogue was really good. I loved how things turned up and leave it to Dare to be his typical pervy self!

In the first book Darren & Bailey realized forgiveness is possible, but now they are learning their is still a lot of work to be done in their relationship. After Darren asked Bailey to stay in Savoy & give them a chance, she is living with him & they are going to couples counseling.

 photo 302b1f6d-1246-4cd7-ac55-bdc5aa2c392a.jpg

While they are in counseling they realize they hadn't really dealt with the past, & they couldn't continue to pretend it didn't exist. As they discuss the past it's very painful, and creates a distance between them. They know they need to work to rebuild their trust, but are scared to test their relationship by discussing their fears. They begin journaling, and know it will take hard work and therapy to heal and get to a place of peace.

 photo 23690e10-49de-41db-876f-560d56518957.jpg

As their bond is tested, Bailey has many insecurities, and Darren is worried he will hurt her again emotionally. He just wants to leave the past buried. They feel like things are falling apart between them, and Bailey decides she needs space to think, and separates from Darren for a while. Darren just wants Bailey to believe in him, & for them to get back to how they used to be. They fight for their relationship, and have faith in each other. They both want a future together, & will do anything to make it happen. They share a unique one of a kind love, and are meant to be. This couple had a long road to happiness, but I was so pleased with their HEA & really enjoyed their story of love & forgiveness! :D

I found this on KU when I finished book 1. The H finally understood what he was doing to h - "The woman he loved was afraid of him because he was emotionally abusive." H certainly proves his love and devotion to h in this one. This is not a novella, but it is a quick read. 3.5 stars

The dramatic conclusion to Darren and Bailey's story. We met them in Unforgiven, Bailey being responsible for Darren's biggest loss in life. He's known her his whole life, loved her from afar, and has finally broken down his walls and decided he wants a life with Bailey more than he wants to hate her for her past indiscretions.

They've got a long road ahead. It's not realistic to think otherwise. But he's willing to do what it takes to make it work. Can Bailey trust Darren not to continue to lash out and hurt her?

 photo 6CC4D155-9666-483F-A46F-A103AC3B917A_zpsyggkmgik.jpg

Miss Finn didn't give her readers an easy read here. I thought, after gutting me slowly in Unforgiven, we'd get our hearts and flowers, walk off into the sunset, easy conclusion. Nope. Darren and Bailey have a lot going against them, a lot of counseling ahead, townspeople to accept them, trust issues, and new conflicts that arise every step of the way. Do they have what it takes to make it work?

*********************************

I liked Unfogettable. I didn't LOVE it the way I did the first book. Darren was, by far, the highlight for me. The brooding, conflicted man in Unforgiven, turns into the committed, nurturing man in Unforgettable. Not to mention the king of vulgar sex talk. Holy cow, was that man a dirty talker! Swoon. I loved every aspect of his character and I'm pleased Ms Finn created a character that went from a painful shell of a man, to a strong hero in this book.

Bailey breaks my heart. She was the tough one in the first book, but weaker here. Things happen along the way, things out of her control and her strength weakens. Darren is her rock and it was awesome to see the exchange of power from one book to the next. Give and take.

 photo 0A6F74EB-0F41-4383-B0AC-C06962EB1709_zpssoexopbk.jpg

Unfogettable sure packs a sexual punch. Definitely pushing the erotica side for Ms Finn. She took it to a whole different level here. She can write a hell of a sex scene. There was one issue I had with it, albeit hot, just didn't seem to fit their angsty love story.

So, if you're a fan of angsty, emotional reads, I'd highly recommend this duet. Just don't go into this book thinking it's a sweetsie easy epilogue to Unforgiven. It's realistically raw and emotional. But do we at least get a happily ever after for all this pain and suffering we they endure?

What a gut wrenching read I was a wreck!!

 photo 8868841_zpsf20jjcx4.gif

This story basically shows us the long hard struggles Darren and Bailey took on in order to finally heal TOGETHER.
It was such a hard read a few times I felt so gutted I wasn't sure I could finish, but in the end it was so worth it.. Nothing in life worth something is easy.. and Bailey was at her breaking point Luckily this time around Darren was able to bare the burden for both of them and bring them closure and finally happiness.. With her signature heavy dose of smoking lovin' scenes Ms Finn has delivered another awesome read!!!

Oh wow, that was one hella straight depressing ride! lol

Great story, well written.. it was just too much drama for me. I'm a masochist reader but from the beginning until about 90% in the story was so gloomy I wanted to hurt someone!

So eventho I loved the first book, I'm just giving this 3.5 stars because I feel like this book was unnecessary.

2.5 to 3 Stars

Darren

Bailey

I was honestly really dissappointed with this book. The first book Unforgiven was mind blowing. Even though Dare was an asshole, I still loved the story so much. I'm one of the few who probably did not really hate Darren in the first book. It doesn't mean I think abuse is okay, but Darren was a wreck emotionally just as Bailey was.

I got the feeling that this book was made for the "Darren Haters." This book redeems Darren in so many ways. On the other hand, Bailey was a total wreck. I actually did not like her in this book. She was being selfish almost all the time. Yes she's been through so much, but God I wanted to smack her so many times.

It took me over a week to finish this book. I would wake up with my kindle near my face! The story dragged. I really thought this book was unnecessary. It was depressing. The sex scenes were really well written, but I just couldn't fall into those scenes when all this crap was happening between Darren and Bailey.

I'm just glad that Darren really turned himself around. Darren was just perfect. He was struggling, yet stayed strong for Bailey. I really got to see what was beneath all that anger. But didn't we all know what a great guy he actually is???

4 Unforgettable Stars! This is second book in the Unforgiven series and although I really enjoyed it, it was quite a difficult read. There was lot's of angst. Both Daren and Bailey go through so much before they can truly have their HEA. At times while reading this story, I felt frustrated and depressed. I guess that makes Elizabeth Finn a real talented author to be able to let the reader experience emotions that the characters in her story are feeling so I can't complain. I really liked Daren in this book. He's always been the more determined of the two but in this book he was remarkably sweet, endearing and patient with Bailey. Their connection & chemistry is still strong and the sex is off the charts HOT!

Again, hats off to Ms. Finn for another well written novel.

How there aren't more 5 stars for this one I'm not sure. I teared up more than once through this.

I was so happy to finally get back to Darren and Bailey... Darren is just so- crudely delicious.

Love all of Finn's work!

Really loved this! It was very personal to me (since I've experienced one of the main storylines in this book) In all honesty it felt like a giant epilogue, but it was awesome none the less!
Must read in series order

I think the author should have stopped with Unforgiven. This one was unnecessary.

3.5 Forgiven Stars!!!

Argh! Here is the thing! I LOVED LOVED LOVED Unforgiven and thought it ended perfectly. After that it's hard to read the next book not knowing if it is going to be better or not reach the same expectations of the first book.  In Unforgettable this is a continuation of Bailey and Darren. Hoping that they would immediately get their HEA was a pipe dream because the reality for these two was anything but easy.

In the first book, Bailey was so strong and overcame so much.  After making a terrible choice she lives with the consequences even with the hateful action of the hurt and angry Darren.  But once Darren realizes his wrong he changes his tune and does nothing but put Bailey first and loves her like he was meant to. In this book to me Bailey started to come across weaker and more timid then she first presented in Unforgiven.

"What if he hurts me again?  I don't think I could handle it."

Sadly I'm in a 'whiny heroine reading funk' and this book didn't help to get me out of it. During the first part of the book Bailey is scared that Darren is going to hurt her.  But lets be honest he had a lot MORE to forgive than she did, and if he was able to forgive her, then I don't know how Bailey had such a hard time not moving forward and forgiving Darren.

"You make a decision.  Move forward or end this."

For Darren, he'll do anything for Bailey but her indecisiveness, combined with her running and pushing him away is slowly torturing him.

"I crave your trust in me.  It feeds my soul."

For Darren, Bailey is his everything, his unforgettable, but stubborn Bailey is not seeing it.

"My life, my universe, my everything, my unforgettable.  You will always be my world.  Trust that."

As Darren and Michelle convince Bailey to buck up, things start to move quickly where they find themselves at a good place. You knew the shoe was going to drop because once they are happy and married, Bailey starts to feel like she is missing something so instead of you know talking to the ever present loving Darren she holds it in once again. Grrr!

After she actually communicates, she finds out Darren is on board. Duh! (that's what happens when you communicate)

As Darren and Bailey embark on this new part of their journey Bailey goes a bit crazy with her emotions and actions.

"Be patient.  And stop peeing on things."

Again you think things are looking up, then BAM heartbreak again. I liked the realness of them as a couple going through things that are very normal for most couples but they way Bailey handled it frustrated me. I don't know why but I'm so disappointed with how much weaker she comes across in this book but I am.  It could be the reading funk and I'm getting jaded or she's just weaker. She tends to only think of herself during a lot of this book where she makes big decisions not thinking about how it will affect Darren or them as a couple.

"You killed me with this, Bailey. I don't have ... any idea what I'm supposed to do now. "

Thankfully again she has a kick ass bestie who helps her see what she is doing. As well as she has Darren, who is constantly fighting for them and for Bailey to be happy no matter what.

I still love and adore Elizabeth Finn and the book was well written with a beautiful story but ...
To reiterate I did really love the first book and I did like this book especially the realness of the obstacles that they're facing as a couple but I will be honest I would have been just as content with only book one. Or maybe if they were combined as one large book then maybe I would have liked it more but after you leave the high of Unforgiven, it's hard to meet that expectations of the powerfulness of the book. Or maybe if I had loads of time between the two books then maybe I would have liked this one more, from salivating for more of Darren and Bailey but since I read them so close together I was sadly let down a bit with this book, compared to Unforgiven.
