Team Red #5

Blind-sided

Rate this book
The house is full of Mustangs, and the Wild Horse Compound, now affectionately referred to as Mustang Ranch, is only a few weeks away from completion. There is a feeling of security, yet not—Teresa’s anxiety attacks seem to disregard logic. Thankfully, the Team Red detail understands and supports her as she battles unseen demons.

Marcia and Wes have moved to Spokane, and the cancer vigil begins; her final wish is to see her son celebrate his 10th birthday. Compassionate friends, Janey, Ken, Tara, and Jason, take over Marcia’s care in an effort to relieve stress as Teresa wages her struggle against PTSD nightmares and paranoia. Tank bonds with Wes as the sad young boy watches his mom slip away.

Bastian is at an undisclosed East Coast location doing PreClan military software upgrades. At home, David is exerting subtle, yet unrelenting pressure to give him a second chance. Will David's obsessive behavior completely destroy the tenuous balance of his relationship with her and Bas?

Teresa takes comfort in Red’s constant and supportive presence. His antics and doggy wisdom keep her smiling as she waits not-so-patiently for Bastian to return.

WELCOME TO TEAM RED!
This version of the series is INTENDED FOR MATURE ADULTS OVER 18. Blind-sided contains graphic sexual content, and swearing, which is unfortunate as the dog repeats everything.

Blind-sided is a 28000 word novella, but the book is essential to the continued Team Red story line. The book also contains Blush, a 8k+ word novella featuring Gil and Ash.

T feels that writing is not a calling so much as it is a compulsion. No one is more surprised than she is when characters take over the plot and dialog, (re)directing stories in directions she had not (consciously) intended. Although she starts out each novel with a basic outline, she finds that one or two chapters into the novels, not only have the characters shredded her outline into tiny unidentifiable pieces, they use the resulting confetti in a nose-thumbing parade. She is fully convinced the writer is the tool a story uses to tell its tale.

T. Hammond lives in Washington state, and has been a German shepherd owner for over twenty-five years.

Blind-sided is a novella-sized addition to the Team Red series. The author indicates at the end of the book that medical issues forced her to shorten this part of the story, and she explains that Book 6 will wrap up all the unresolved issues and complete the story of Teresa and Team Red. While the ending of Blind-sided was definitely abrupt, it's forgivable understanding the author's challenge, and her commitment to ending the series in Book 6.

That said, Blind-sided was not without its own twists and turns. We really get to see a new side of Teresa as she engages in activities with the "Mustangs" and some of the activities that Bastian and David have been engaged in. Teresa provides a breath of fresh air to these activities and I really enjoyed when Teresa indicated that the problem at hand could just be resolved "if the men would bother to just stop and ask directions". And she's right.

Throughout the development of these aspects of the story, we get to experience exactly how Bastian sees and treats Teresa as an equal, and not just someone he wants to take care of. Bastian understands that engaging Teresa in that type of professional relationship will introduce additional complexity to their personal relationship, but it also shows a level of trust and confidence in Teresa that David never demonstrated.

David appears to be continuing on a downward spiral with regards to his feelings for Teresa. His reaction to the developing relationship between Bastian and Teresa appears volatile and raises concerns among the other team members in the house. It also causes me to dislike him more and more. By the end of this book, I'm not sure if David has come to accept his fate, or has future plans to re-engage Teresa that we'll come to see in the last book.

Frost continues to be a favorite character of mine. A few "Frost-isms" that I really enjoyed in this book:
"Can shoot him. Hide the body. Our secret"
"Thinkin' David contains 'nough cubic feet to fertilize the garden by the pond. Wanna hole dug?"
"Easy 'nough to dig two holes as one. Elm could use the fertilizer."

Have I mentioned that I LOVE Frost?!

Bastian continues to be a calming influence in Teresa's life and demonstrated his commitment to her by going way out of his way to support her in a difficult situation. He continues to demonstrate that his love for Teresa is deep and heartfelt and Teresa understands that and loves him for the way he loves her. Their deepening relationship is reflected in a number of unique ways that I look forward to the author continuing to explore in Book 6.

In Blind-Sided, the author has definitely established a few interesting situations and scenarios that I look forward to seeing resolved in Book 6 of the Team Red series.

What can I say? I wrote it, and I hope you enjoy. I love the series. The books are created to be read in order, as there is a progressing plot thread.

I LOVE this series!! This book is another great addition and I am eagerly awaiting more (is it May yet?) I love Teresa and Bas and Red and Frost and Janie and Ken and….you get the picture. This is book 5 in the series and I highly recommend that it be read in order (book one Blind Seduction is free as of the time of this review). This book picks up right where Blind Rage left off, Teresa struggling with her recent traumas (yep there's more than one), Bas is out working with the military on the install of PreClan tech, David is back (and acting like a spoiled child if you ask me) the house is overrun with Mustangs (did I mention I love Frost) and people really need to learn to watch what they say around Red, that dog repeats everything! This book seems to have a lot of interaction between Teresa and Frost and I felt like we are getting to know him better in this book (and I love him, you gotta love a man with a shovel and a plan). David is a douche (I hope they let me say that on Amazon) and if he's not careful he's going to do more than destroy his relationship with Teresa (I'm kinda waiting for Bas to take him out back and beat the crap out of him, especially after the stuff he pulls in this book….idea for the next one maybe….pretty please) he just won't listen, I get that he feels his life is spinning out of his control but really, dude listen and take it like a man, you screwed up get over yourself! Marsha is quite the piece of work too, I get that she's hurting and doesn't want to heap the blame on the person who deserves it but her attitude with Teresa makes it really hard to have any sympathy for her. I love how character driven this series is, yes there are paranormal and suspense elements to the stories but really these books are all about the characters and their relationships. While there is not a cliffhanger per se this book does leave a lot of loose ends in anticipation of book 6 (is it May yet?). Book 6 is scheduled to be the last of the series, or maybe I should say the storylines in these books but the author has said she is thinking about doing a books for some of the Mustangs (pretty, pretty please!). This book also contains the short story Blush, a peek into the lives of Gil and Ash, characters who are more on the periphery of Team Red (though I'm thinking Gil will be a bigger part soon). It is also a good story and I really wouldn't mind reading more about Gil and Ash in a spin off series if the author chooses to go that way. Like I said at the beginning I love this series and this book is no exception, if you like a good, character driven story I highly recommend these, no matter your preferred genre, in my opinion you can't go wrong.

A short but very satisfying read!

In book five, a novella, David has returned and has his wife and son with him; Teresa had invited them to stay in her home in order to make the remaining time for David’s wife (dying of cancer) as easy as possible for all concerned. In some long awaited conversations, Teresa gets to explain how and why she’s no longer “in love” with David and has “moved on” with Bas, but David of course is reluctant to accept this. He also doesn’t see how his wife is truly in love with him. (Yeah, he’s “blind” but it’s not his blindness we really are concerned about).

Teresa and Bas have finally managed taking things to the next level, something she really needed after her traumatic experiences described in books three and four. But, Bas is now away on a business trip and Teresa must deal with PTSD along with the drama associated with David and his wife. Thank goodness for Red and Tank (the puppy introduced in book four) who of course help David’s son Wes fit in.

The security team has settled in and it becomes clear how future Team Red jobs are likely to go, as well as the highly classified work Bas and David are doing for the government. Things develop with all the other characters and in many ways, we can see things winding down and wrapping up for this series. This story, though short, is wonderful and introduces some surprising “consequences” (hence, its title).

As with all the earlier books, I enjoyed this one very much. Red never fails to entertain. I’m left anxiously waiting for the next book so I can continue with this fabulous series!

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Teresa and Red are back! I just recently was introduced to this series and I'm so glad I found it. This book continues where Blind-Rage ended and Teresa is understandably having difficulties dealing with all the trauma, both physical and emotional that she has been through in the past 18 months. The book is filled with wonderful characters, Red is truly an amazing wonder dog and he just keeps getting funnier as he matures. Frost is awesome, I hope we get to see more of him in the future, I love a man with a subtle, deadly sense of humor....and a shovel

Underneath the suspenseful storyline are people you can relate to, funny, witty, sexy and sarcastic. The dialogue keeps you laughing and the love story and intense emotional issues Teresa is forced to deal with make you cry. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

This book also contains Blush, Ash and Gil's novella and a great little peak into the beginning of their relationship.

Just a little spoiler... this is one of my favorite quotes from Janey's visit to the doctor to confirm her pregnancy

“I have the appointment , Susan,” Janey volunteered. “Pregnancy test. Teresa’s here for moral support.”

“I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere,” Susan said, drolly. “You’re an unmarried pregnant woman— moral support seems futile at this point. Puns are running rampant through my head.”

Blind-Sided begins with Bas being off on an assignment, and Teresa and Red are still home. Things for Teresa aren't going so well. She can't sleep, and she's losing lots of weight because of it. She has a major case of PSTD, and there seems to be a few more problems as well. So, while she goes to the doctor with her best friend she ends up getting checked out, and finds out some rather odd news. Now, Bas and Teresa will have to figure out how much their relationship will really be able to handle. Add in all of the jobs they are fixing to go on, and drama from David and his wife Marcie, and you have a whole world of trouble.

This was a short story that basically seems to lead us in the a certain direction for the next book. It starts out good, and continues that way until the end with a crazy cliffhanger. I can not believe it ended like that, and now I'm even more excited about the next one!
This one had drama, some sexy times with Bas, and us getting to see a little bit how hard things are going for Teresa!

Too Short

I liked this one but it was too short. However it had some surprising twists and turns. I think I am about to read the last I. The series and I fear it won’t make me happy if the series ends.

I love this book so much! Tina Hammond is one of my favorite authors, ever, and I think this book was so beautiful and amazingly written. Not to mention I got to read about my favorite characters!

This book picks up where the last one leaves off. Teresa is trying to cope with what happened to her and try to return to normal, everyday tasks, but with Bas at an undisclosed East Coast location doing PreClan military software upgrades and her struggle with paranoia, Teresa is having a hard time forgetting what happened and feeling safe in her home again.

But all the Team Red detail are watching out for her and are trying to help her cope and feel safe again, which is all a woman can ask for.

Meanwhile David's wife is slowly slipping away and her last wish is to see her son celebrate his 10th birthday. David is caring for her, but isn't letting Teresa go without a fight. He wants her back, but cannot see her heart belongs to someone else now and might not have belonged to him at all in the first place.

All this, plus the witty commentary of Red, Teresa's dog who can talk to her, and you have a kick butt book!

As always, I enjoyed reading Tina Hammond's new book and I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series. I have grown very fond of all the characters, especially Frost, Teresa, Bas, and, of course, Red! It's going to be sad to let these characters go one day, but I'm happy knowing that they all have each other and everything will work well in the end.

The ending to this book was perfect and honestly my favorite part of the book. I'm not going to explain or say anything more, but just be ready to be shocked and want to beg the author for the next book! It's awesome!

I highly recommend this book, as well as all the books in the series!!

My favorite quotes:

"Thinkin' David contains 'nough cubic feet to fertilize the garden by the pond? Need a hole dug?"

"German shepherds (granted, Tank, at twelve weeks old, is hardly a deterrent, unless one can truly die of terminal cuteness overload.)"

"I'm pack, I'm "wounded"--albeit, mentally--and he's determined to stay close to show his support and dedication in the form of comforting warmth and the occasional peanut butter cookie."

Can Not Wait For The Next Book!!!!!!
I can not get enough of #TeamRed! After the bombshell Blind Rage dropped on us I was bummed that we'd have to wait awhile for the next installment, but when I heard Hammond was releasing this novella much sooner than planned my day was made! It is much shorter than the other books (hence the novella status), but it is packed full of the Team Red awesomeness! Plenty to hold me over until the next full length is finished.
As always ... Theresa & Red are a hoot!! Bas is absolute swoon-worthy!!! Frost is quickly becoming one of my fave characters!!!! AND...Blind Luck can NOT get in my hands fast enough!!!!!
If you haven't begun this series yet be sure to grab Blind Seduction (book 1) for free. Follow up with Color Blind, Blind Faith, & Blind Rage.
To me this series reads more as a contemporary romance @with a slight paranormal twist & boat loads of laughter. The only paranormal being the connection Theresa & her dog, Red, have. Other than that think hawt military men, comedy, action, romance, detective/crime scene investigation, & a lot of hysterical bantering. If you enjoy any or all of those things you are sure to love this series!

One of the things I love the best about author T. Hammond is the way she writes her characters. They are so multifaceted and full of depth that they really come alive. Reading one of her stories really draws a reader in, and you feel like you are part of a conversation with old friends. Of course, how could you not like Red, the precocious German shepherd dog?

This is book 5 of the series, and I appreciated that there was no major, horrible event in this story. Poor Teresa - I think she needed a break after the two harrowing ordeals from previous books. This story seems more about the dynamics between the characters, and how the Mustangs function along with PreClan. I feel I have a better rapport with all of the main characters, as well as the supporting players. Of course I loved the cliff-hanger at the end. But sheesh! I will be waiting somewhat impatiently for the next installment....

On another note, I LOVED the short story Blush included at the end. I had first read this story in the Shades of Pink 2 anthology. I appreciated the subtle additions to this version, and I am over the moon about Gil and Ash!

Team Red is back. I love this series and have been looking forward to this installment for a while.

It was a novella so it was a short reunion.
The plot was not as in depth as in the other books but that is a good thing as the last book was a bit heavy. I enjoyed the lightness of the plot this time around, it was easier to figure who is who on all the teams, and their interactions were fun to read, and of course seeing Tessa dealing Janey and Ken’s news.
My few criticisms would the way David was written… he is coming off as a jerk and I am not sure I am ready to make that leap yet. And I wanted more Bastien, in the last book their relationship, Tessa and Bastien was not developed as much as it could so I expected more here. Again it is a novella so it is to be expected that the author could not develop all the plots / characters. Nervethelss it is always fun to pop in and see how everyone is adapting.

T. Hammond is doing an amazing job with her writing, great editing too! Even with the mind seeing and mind speaking between Red and Teresa I can believe this unique and wonderful story to have happened. There is never a dull moment. The pages are filled with drama, action and love. As well as sarcasm and humor, this always wins me over. Sadly the book ended way too quickly since it is a novella. Thankfully T. Hammond added the short story ‘Blush’ giving us a little more insight about Gil and Ash. I am looking forward to May 2015 to see all the loose ends tied up. I hope Tank is not limited to "terminal cute" as a character.

I was so looking forward to this book. Unfortunately I could only give this one 2 stars. There was no action or anything in it. All the other books had some kind of action - the highlight of the book was she attended a meeting. If this was the first book of the series I would not have gone any further. I know that this is winding down but I was so disappointed with it. The other books I rated at 5 stars. I will get the final book hoping it will be a little better. I still will recommend this series even though t.his one did not live up to my expectations.

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Author T. Hammond has done an excellent job of making her characters come to life. If any of the characters walked into my kitchen, we could start up a conversation over coffee very easily. Her imaginative use of Red (the dog who repeats everything he hears) is fun and makes you look at your own dog and ask, "Why can't you be like that?" Be warned though as fun as this book is, it is a novella and is short. And, yes. It leaves you wanting more.

Disclosure: This eBook was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.

A fan of this series, Blind-sided pushed the action along nicely and allowed us the opportunity to look at the fragmented relationships of David and Teresa, while also focusing on Teresa's growth and survival.

I missed Bastian, one of my favourite characters, something crazy. While of course, he featured in this book, he wasn't as full and centre as I hoped.

The book had a crazy cliffhanger that left me desperate for more.

I once again loved T. Hammond's writing. Blind-sided is chock full of humor and suspense. I'm only sad that I have to wait until May for the next Team Red book. Blind-sided is a short read, for those that don't have a lot of time to spend reading. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. T. Hammond has quickly moved into my top 10 favorite authors.

I need more!

This wasn't as long but still a great book. Teresa is dealing with ptsd and Bas is out of town. David is still upset and Marcia isn't a very nice lady. We learn some surprising things in this one and I'm ready for the last in the series!

Too short

Although the noveletta does follow the storyline, it could easily have been longer. The authors prior books had much more content.

Way too short and left me with a huge cliffhanger. I still give it a 5 for the humor and the interweaving of the characters and story. The short novella at the end was a fun bonus.
