Talmage Monson has a good job, the best dog, and regular Sunday dinners with his loving family. On the outside, he’s the epitome of a golden boy, but on the inside? Something is missing. He can’t help feeling it’s the girl he let go of thirteen years prior.
Mackenzie Thorpe is barely scraping by. Between working two jobs and trying to raise her teenage twin sisters, she has no time for dating—or any desire to since her heart still belongs to the boy she loved when she was fourteen. Life may be hard, but she’s here, and she’s trying her best.
When Mackenzie crashes back into Talmage’s life, it feels like the missing piece slots into place. Talmage takes it as a sign to rekindle the flame between them, but Mackenzie is hesitant. Talmage is undeterred, determined to do whatever it takes to get her to trust him again. After learning she’s been struggling under the burdens of medical bills, Talmage proposes a plan to help. Mackenzie hesitantly agrees, not realizing just how much her life is about to change.
Will this marriage of convenience force them to confront their past, their unresolved feelings, and bring them back together?
This is my first book in this series and my first read from this author. I really have no idea what to expect or how she tells her story, so this is going to be a whole new experience for me.
That said, I liked the writing style, but I didn't like that it leans more toward telling rather than showing. I think that could work for some readers, but I’d prefer to actually see things happen instead of just reading about it briefly or in passing. So, this kind of pulled me out of the story a few more times. I just couldn't get invested since I wasn't really seeing or feeling the emotions in those key moments.
As for the story, I have to be honest that I'm not a big fan of second-chance romances, and they typically don't work for me. But this has a virgin MMC, so I thought, why not give this a try? And honestly, by the end of the book I didn't end up caring about that at all. It did nothing to make me like this more, sorry.
So Tal (28) and Mack (28) dated when they were teens (14-15), but he broke up with her because of the pressure from his mom and the rules in their religion (Mormon). They were not allowed to date until they were 16. Tal thought he was doing the right thing, but deep down he knew it was not. But he was young and a rule follower, so he still went ahead with it. 🤷♀️
Anyway, they went to the same school, so they were still around each other for the next three years of their lives. Mack was hurt, but Tal wanted to still be friends with her (how he thinks this is okay is so beyond me, but whatever). But she did her best to avoid him, unless she really couldn’t help it. In those three years, it was said that they went on to date other people. After graduation, they each went their separate ways.
It's been 10 years since they last saw each other, and they haven't talked at all since then. Tal never got in touch, and when Mack saw his engagement a couple of years back, she decided to block him on social media (love that!).
It turns out they've been living in the same town for two years now, but somehow they've never run into each other. 🤔 Mack ended up in a car accident, and Tal along with his team were the ones who responded to it. It really caught both of them off guard, and Tal sees this as another chance to reconnect with Mack.
These two moved too fast; well, Tal did, and Mack went along with it even though she was really wary of him and his intentions. They've never seen each other in a decade, and they barely knew one another. Then out of the blue, he suggested getting married—mainly to help her out with her sisters' insurance and to keep his mom off his back about settling down. For someone who doesn't want to get involved with her ex, Mack surely agreed so fast to the MOC idea. While one of the reasons is her sister, we also know it's because she still harbors feelings for him. 🙃
I expected more conversation, as it has been a long time since they last met, and they’ve clearly grown a lot from their teenage years to now. But there really wasn't any of that. They just went ahead and got married, and I was confused the whole time.
Also, there's a tiny part of me that was annoyed with how Tal just barged back into Mack's life like he hadn't hurt her in the past. I should probably give him some grace because he was young then. But, even in the flashbacks, I’ve never really seen him show much sadness or regret for how he ended things with her. He was all about her being his first love, but it surely didn't feel that way after they broke up. And now he thinks they can just pick up where they left off like it’s been no time at all. 😑
Reading Mack's POVs (flashback and present) really broke my heart for her and got me feeling angry at Tal. It's so frustrating that after all this time, she still has feelings for him. Like, girl, why?
Well, tbf, Tal said he never loved anyone the way he loved Mack, not even his ex-fiancée, so I guess that probably counts for something, right? But, idk, I feel like Mack loved him more than he loved her, and I dislike that a lot. 😒
Idk, I can't explain it other than that I wasn't convinced by this second chance, and everything happened so fast. The whole story spans two months, and I still didn't feel an ounce of real connection between them. 🤷♀️
By the end of the book, I can't help but feel a bit sad for Mack, even though she seems really happy since marrying Tal was her dream come true. I’m not sure, but I think I needed more of Tal’s POV to really see that he’s on the same page and that he feels the same love for Mack. That would help me believe him more. 🤷♀️
Anyway, like I said, I wasn't convinced by the romance. But I did like a few things, like Mack's relationship with her sisters and her best friend. I liked that I've learned something new about another religion (although they're mostly negative). I liked that Tal was able to walk away from that and didn't look back. I liked that his mother apologized to Mack and started to build a relationship with her and her sisters too. I liked his dog, Siren. But yeah, that probably sums it all up.
TW/CW: — Explicit sexual content — Religious Trauma (Mormonism specifically) — Mention of parental death — On page ankle injury — On page fire — Infertility — Mention of self-harm and suicidal ideation — Mentions of STIs — Body shaming / Food shaming
Book info: — Second chance (13 yrs) — Marriage of convenience — Single guardian — Plus size FMC — Type 1 diabetes rep — No cheating, OM/OW — Celibate FMC (5 yrs) / Virgin MMC — HEA (4 yrs later, married)
Notes: — They dated OP during the separation, and Tal even got engaged. But it was the ex who ended that, and he felt relieved after. He has his doubts about marrying her, but he feels like it's the right thing to do, well, according to their religion and his parents' expectations. He never did anything with her or his past gfs other than kissing. — I think one year after Tal dumped Mack, she became involved with a wrong man to whom she gave her virginity. The man infected her with chlamydia, but she was too embarrassed to inform her parents about it, leaving it untreated for a long time. This resulted in her fallopian tubes being removed. She could still get pregnant though through IVF, but I don't think she wanted that anyway. She's had enough of being a parentified daughter taking care of her younger twin sisters.
Thank you to Luna Literary Management and Ms. Daisy Wren for the ARC.
Prefacing this by saying this is the only book of the series I’ve read, and I only did so because of the art work Daisy dropped on Threads 🤣
It all worked out though because I am absolute sucker for second chance romances, and the mutual pining in this was 😘👌🏻.
Talmage was just so sweet and innocent and I wasn’t aware that would be something I was into until reading this. Maybe Mack and I both have corruption kinks 🤣🤣🤣
Overall Mack and Tal’s story’s as so sweet! Plus I’ve never read a romance (or any book really) involving the Mormon religion or deconstruction, so that was definitely really interesting as well.
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧: - second chance romance - marriage of convenience - single guardian FMC - firefighter MMC - plus size FMC - virgin MMC - mutual pining - slow burn
CW: religious trauma, grief, mentions of parental death, infertility, body/food shaming, mentions of self harm and suicidal thoughts, mention of STIs, sexual assault (in the past, not explicitly detailed),
This was a cute book. The writing overall is good and easy to read. I read the book pretty quickly! What kept me into the book and turning pages was the sexual tension from the MMC (Tal) side, having been a virgin who avoided even touching himself. Other than that, I found I didn’t really feel attached or care much about their relationship or the characters. I just wanted more of their connection, more actual relationship stuff where they talk and share or something. I get they loved each other “back then” but it still didn’t make the connection now quite strong enough for me.
I liked the premise of the religious trauma, leaving the church, etc. for both, but especially for Tal. However - it never really got as fleshed out as much as it could have. The FMC, Mack, also had some history and trauma but the touch on it was light. Everything kind of came up on both sides in different ways and then smoothed over/resolved easily. The book was just a bit too simplistic overall for me, though a sweet story with that touch of spice.
Tal is super cute and wholesome, it’s fun to see when he starts breaking away from that a bit but he’ll always be a sweetheart and a bit of a provider. Mack seems like a cool woman who has taken on responsibilities to do the best by her family and manage life. They make a nice pair. There were parts within all that which made me laugh too.
The writing itself was solid and the story was enjoyable overall. This is my first read from the author and I’d definitely try another book if it was calling to me. Generally a good book but just not fully up to a great full 4 star book for me. I wouldn’t turn someone away from this book if the tropes/premise is something appealing for you as it was good overall!
I received an advance copy of the book and have left my honest, influence-free review
I should have known that closing the chapter on the Broken Shelves series would leave me with the bittersweet aftertaste we all experience when something that has touched us comes to an end. The series not only introduced me to Daisy Wren, a talented author who deserves recognition, but also allowed me to learn more about Mormonism, a religion that is not very common in France, and its significant impact on the lives of its practitioners and even more so on the lives of those who have made the courageous choice to leave it.
Talmage has been a recurring character in this series. We briefly meet him in the books centered around his cousins, and we see him increasingly question his faith throughout the series. Finally, we find ourselves unable to help but become attached to him because, if there is one character without an ounce of malice, it is Tal. I’m glad Daisy Wren decided that his story deserved to be told, too. Even though he’s a fictional character, he deserves credit for making us believe that men like him exist somewhere in the world.
I became very attached to Mack’s character. As with the other FMCs in Daisy Wren’s books, I saw a lot of myself in her. The difficulties she faces deeply resonate with me. Despite everything she has been through, Mackenzie has an incredible strength to keep going. Regardless of age, not just anyone could become the guardian of their twin sisters after experiencing the tragedy of losing their parents in the same terrible accident. Honestly, Mack is an FMC I greatly admire.
I also became attached to the secondary characters—Lizzie, Enoch, Kinsley, and Harper—but Siren really won my heart. Who could resist such an adorable ball of fur?
I highly recommend Choosing Forever, as well as the entire Broken Shelves series. However, take the time to read the author’s notes at the beginning of each book because, as I always say, your mental health is far more important than any book.
Many thanks to Daisy Wren and Luna Literary Management for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of Choosing a Forever. This review is my own. All opinions expressed are mine.
I liked it a lot. I‘m usually not a big fan of second chance romances but this worked out for me.
I think that the whole break down of the Mormon church and religious trauma that came with that was not just very interesting, but added to the fact that it was a appropriate second chance. I also think that you can tell how a lot of these things come from personal experience and aren’t really talked about that much. I also liked the little backslashes we got from their teenage age and how both of them basically dealt with the same feeling.
I loved Talmage and I really liked their relationship. While there definitely was a miscommunication in a big matter, they were so sweet together. And again. Loved Talmage.
I do think that some parts of this book went on a bit too quick. I think that Mack‘s trauma regards the SA was a bit overlooked and I don’t know how realistic the change of Tal‘s mother was. But overall… this was such an easy, enjoyable and cute read and I really can’t wait for what’s coming next.

Apparently, I have a corruption kink cause I ATE THIS. I loveeeee when I dive into a book and it's got information that I didn't know about or when I learn about new cultures and religions; and this book had that.
Sweet, innocent baby Talmage. I am obsessed with you 😍 I'm a sucker for golden retrievers and he made me MELT. Let me just say... he didn't stay innocent for long 😉🥵 That man wanted to LEARNNN and learn he did! He was also able to stand up for himself without being rude or an asshole which I can appreciate. He was a breath of fresh air of an MMC, if I'm being honest.
Mackenzie was a surprising FMC but I absolutely adored her. She stepped up when something unimaginable happened and had to grow up sooner than she should have.
The dual timeline added such a fun aspect to the story and made me feel like I understood them both better.
Soooo basically, I loved this. I love Talmage. I love Mack. And I'm so glad they got their happily ever after. ❤️

What do you get when you combine the wholesome home town firefighter and his ex-High School sweetheart who left their Mormon church? You get Mackenzie and Talmage.
Mackenzie is doing her best as she’s thrown into being guardian of her teenage sisters after her parents accident. If that means working 2 jobs and not taking care of herself, she doesn’t care.
Talmage is your wholesome, golden boy who everyone in town loves. Nearing 30, he finds himself questioning he’s ever known and is unsure how to truly find himself.
These 2 reconnecting heals old wounds while both MCs discover what their dreams really are.

thank you to daisy and her team for letting me read this! i am so sad to see the series come to an end, but what a beautiful ending! mack and talmage are everything to me! i absolutely loved their reunion and their story
"I guess becoming your husband was the first step to becoming who I want to be. I always knew great things would come from being married to you." - Talmage
"The connection we share, the invisible string tying us together even when we were apart is too strong to ever fully break, and it heightens everything." - Mackenzie
Mackenzie & Talmage have been friends for a very long time; they also had feelings for each other. They see each other again more than a decade later. Every chapter starts with a snippet from the past, how they felt about each other, and what happened between them. I really love how those two times lines were written. They both grew up with strong beliefs; Mackenzie stepped out of that, and Talmage really wants that too. Mackenzie is taking care of her sisters (Harper & Kinsley, they are twins). Harper is a diabetic, and Talmage wants to start exporting and do things that he never could do; she's showing him what he's been missing all this time. So they get fake married, and they start their second chance. Talmage also has a dog named Siren, who fits right into this family.
Talmage is just so happy to be around Mackenzie. He is such a golden retriever. He's such a sweet and caring person that's just trying to find himself with his lovely wife by his side, who is without a doubt the love of his life. He's also very respectful, not wanting to think about her a certain way, which hints at how he grew up and that he is very respectful and is aware of someone's boundaries.
Mackenzie has been through a lot and has a hard time believing that he wants her just as much as she wants him. He makes her understand how beautiful and strong she is and that he will always be by her side. I'm glad that her best friend, Lizzie, has always been there for Mackenzie. I love that they took their time and made sure that they didn't overwhelm each other by moving too fast. And that Mackenzie celebrated all of Talmage's firsts with him. This couple loves each other so deeply. This is a beautiful, heartwarming book with an important message: that a second chance is possible and that it can get better, that you are allowed to change and figure out what you really want.
Dedication: This ones for my readers. Your support is what’s kept me going. And to those who love a teachable man (and might have a slight corruption k!ńk) *wink*

Nothing says small town swoon like a firefighter who carries both a hose and a torch for the girl who got away thirteen years ago. Talmage Monson is the definition of golden retriever energy: devoted to his family, doting on his dog, and still pining after Mackenzie Thorpe like no time has passed. Mack, meanwhile, is hustling two jobs and raising her sisters, too burned out to even think about love until Tal shows up with his big heart, steady hands, and a marriage of convenience plan that might just change everything.
The setup hooked me right away (firehouse banter + small-town second chances = irresistible), but I did find myself wishing the pacing kept its early spark. The first half sizzled with mutual pining and tension, while the second half slowed down a bit and smoothed over conflicts too neatly. Tal’s innocence was sweet—sometimes too sweet—and I wanted more time watching them really work through their history instead of skating past it.
That said, there’s a lot to love here: the found family vibes, Tal’s earnestness (he’s basically a walking green flag), Mack’s grit and loyalty, and the tender way the story touches on religious trauma and rebuilding life after loss.
I received an ARC copy and wanted to leave an honest review.
4.5 ARC Review Please read content warning it contains some heavy topics. Very hurt/comfort vibes.
Talmage Monson is a firefighter and certified golden retriever MMC. I swear, reading about an inexperienced male main character was so refreshing He was willing and eager to learn EVERYTHING. Mack has been through it. After a major family tragedy, she became the caregiver for her younger twin sisters, one of whom has major medical expenses. She's trying her damn hardest to keep it all together.
Oh, and they had crushes on each other when they were younger?! That “one that got away” vibe. And y’all... THEY NEVER REALLY MOVED ON. They’ve literally been living in the same town for years, and suddenly, they’re running into each other everywhere. Talmage is so intentional. By the third time they saw each other, he was asking her out 💘. He even remembered her favorite order on a specific day at a local restaurant so he could surprise her with it later… WHAT 🥹
And when Lizzie agreed to the whole 🤵♂👰♀ plan? SHOOKETH. The proposal...omg, NOTHING fake about it 😭 Kinsley (one of the younger sisters) is a fierce protector of Mack, and I loved her for it 🫶🏼
And of course, the “wedding night” had me cackling 🤭 Talmage casually walking in post-shower and then choosing grey sweatpants?! BOY BYE (but also 👀🔥) He cooks, makes grocery lists with their favorite foods, AND tracks Mack’s skincare/haircare products just in case he ever needs to replace them?!
WHERE DO I ORDER A TALMAGE MONSON???
Also loved: 📚 Tal reading her books while recovering (for "research" of course 😉) 🔥 The fire station convo with Enoch: so sweet 🧠 Lizzie being psychic but also the voice of reason Mack needed 💬 The flashbacks were so emotional and perfectly paced 😭 Her parents met Tal before they passed and liked him...my hearttttt
I’m not even usually into second-chance romance, but Daisy put so much heart into this. I was rooting for them the whole time. Emotional, sweet, funny, and full of hope.
*Thank you so much to the author (Daisy Wren) and Luna Literary for the opportunity to ARC read this book! All opinions are my own*

This was an absolute joy to read. There were some tears, some frustrations, some laughs, and a lot of relateable learning after religion moments. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the characters.
Mack/Mackenzie is a bid desk specialist and bartender who is also guardian to her teen twin sisters.
Tal/Talmage is a firefighter dog daddy who is deconstructing his Mormon faith.
They knew each other as kids. They dated. Until he broke her heart. Neither has recovered. Both are still carrying a torch. Fate brings them together when he responds to a minor car accident she was in. Their paths continue to cross and she agrees to lunch. Then he proposes a marriage of convenience because he has great health insurance and her family needs it. She (eventually) agrees. He leaves the church (he was already planning, she just gave the courage). His family is not happy. Regardless, he & she grow closer. And closer. And closer *eyebrow waggle* It is so freaking delightful!
Mack is such an incredible & relateable woman. She has a brain that is not always on her side but is smart and a history with the church that too many girls & women have. She steps up for her family when tragedy strikes and she protects her heart the best way she knows how. I love her.
Tal is a sweet soul who fully bought in to what his parents & leaders told him. So much so that it cost him his relationship with Mack. Then he grew up and started asking questions. And everything wasn't as clear & straightforward as he had been taught. He broke my heart because I've been there.
These two together are just the cutest and hottest. Yes, they take a bit to get to a place of sharing and relationship-ing, but when they get there? Gorgeous! Magnificent! Adorable!
I rellay enjoyed the flow of this story, the way we opened chapters with their younger selves and then went into present day. Clever and interesting. I cannot wait to read the other books in this series!
I recieved this as an ARC and I am so grateful. My review is not influenced by this at all and is based only on my thoughts & feelings of the story.
edit: I have not been able to stop thinking about this story, so rating revised to 5 because if something sticks with me like that, gotta give it full marks!!
Choosing a Forever by Daisy Wren (ARC Review) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
Second Chance romance, a MMC chock full of yearning and a tattooed soft bodied baddie?! What more could you possibly want?!
Woah what an emotional wreck this made me. This is my first in this series (I will be going back to the start) and the earnestness and joy of Tal really blew my mind. He is such a walking green flag and I couldn’t get enough of his unravelling from the strict lifestyle he was raised in.
The focus on finding love and happiness after leaving a strict religion and the trauma associated with it isn’t something I’ve encountered in many books and I thought it was handled really well. The dual timeline vibe is not always my cup of tea but in this instance it really worked to make you understand the context for how both Tal and Mac feel about themselves and each other.
Mac is the FMC we all want to be friends with. She’s a soft bodied baddie with a heart of gold who’s clawed herself out of trauma after trauma only to become the safe harbour for those in her life. I wanted to wrap her in a blanket and make her tea and toast (extremely British reaction of me but here we are).
Marriage of Convenience (and fake dating) will always be a favourite trope of mine and this did not disappoint! Add in the ‘teach me’ vibes and the MMC’s yearning and you’re on to a winner.
Don’t be fooled by the serious topics covered and the deep emotions, there are also light, funny moments and a tension building slow burn that culminates in some excellent spicy scenes! This man is consumed by his need for her and it is a delight to read!
As always, check the TWs, protect your mental health people! 💕

This was my first religious trauma book and I have to say I’m so glad it was with Talmage and Mack. I went in completely blind and assumed pretty early that because of the tropes and the nature of the romance, it would be pretty vanilla but WHEWPS 🤭🫣 it was not 🥵
A slow burn, marriage of convenience (kind of bc they are both pininggggggg 😮💨), hurt/comfort, second chance romance that I am so glad I had the chance to read! It comes out on 9/30!

The way I gobbled up this book in less than 24 hours which is a first for me! I received this book as an ARC and after reading the description and discovering it was the fourth book in a series I knew I needed to read the other three first. I had to have all the background and honestly as I read each description I couldn’t resist reading them all! Holy build up and this book delivered! Daisy Wren truly saved the best for last.
This is the final book in the broken shelves series and it follows Talmage the ultimate innocent Mormon and Mackenzie the plus size pierced and tattooed girl who left the church. They have known each other since middle school. They had a fling but ultimately drifted apart and that ended. Talmage becoming a firefighter and adopting a dog, while Mackenzie took guardianship over her Twin sisters when tragedy struck her family. A lot of other big life events occurred in their time apart but they ultimately come back together. What starts as one things turns into a complete other while Daisy Wren takes you on a ride with flashbacks being the beginning of every chapter.
While I loved every book in this series this is definitely my favorite even though it is the slow burns of all slow burns lol.The storytelling and writing are really well executed and I really enjoyed the characters and the dialogue between the smaller side characters as well. Below I have listed some of my favorite tropes, details and character characteristics.
-plus size fmc -deconstructing religion -representation of different families -interconnected standalone (although this one probably has the least amount of interaction with the cousins and their spouses) -junior/ high school sweethearts -marriage of convenience -she corrupts him
Actual rating: 3,5 stars. But can't give myself to rounded-up to 4 stars.
Overall the story was heartwarming, light, and cute. But there were some parts I still found hard to accept. First and foremost is how on earth Talmage switched so fast from 13 years of forgetting and/or ignoring Mackenzie to instantly falling in love with her (again). For me, there was no solid reason why Tal suddenly wanted Mack back in his life. Maybe this is just my problem with the second-chance trope, but their second chance did not hit the right spot for me. While Tal was so sweet and showed how in love he was with Mackenzie, and it was entertaining for me to read, I still couldn't be fond of their love story.
Secondly, while I certainly believe the majority of 14 to 15-year-old teenagers don't know what love is, Talmage hurt Mackenzie so much and led her to do something 'bad'. I know he was young when he did it but when he rekindled with Mack, he still didn't grovel as much as I would have liked him to. Mack forgave him too soon because she still loved him.
I felt like Talmage's character was more at the center of the story in this book. I am not complaining but I wish Mackenzie got more of her story to be told, not just in passing conversation toward the end of the book. Because hello! Mack went through so much in her young age.
The trauma religion (?) trope is something new to me. It was interesting and kinda refreshing to read. While I know nothing about Mormons and I don't think I want to look it up further, I heard so much about them and to finally read a glimpse of their religious activities (?) in this book was definitely a brand new experience for me personally.
Thank you to Daisy Wren and Luna Literary Management for the ARC.
Talmage Monson has it all: a good job as a firefighter, the best dog and regularly attended Sunday dinners with his family. While he’s perfect on the outside, Tal knows something is missing. And he finds that in the form of Mackenzie Thorpe, the girl he let go thirteen years ago. However, she’s not the same woman as Mackenzie struggles working two jobs and raising her teenage twin sisters. When Tal offers a proposition that will help them both, he’s hopeful that this marriage of convenience can give them their second chance.
Talmage and Mackenzie have such amazing chemistry the moment they looked at one another after thirteen years have passed. The story telling between both the past and present definitely adds the investment into their relationship. Tal is undeterred by Mack’s stubbornness and fierce independence. The fact that Tal is a virgin MMC was a new trope for me as he broke out of his shell of the Mormon religion. As you keep reading, you can sense the longing between the two as they seek to overcome their past and current struggles to find their way back to one another. I love to seeing Mack being a big sister to Kinsley and Harper. They have Tal a run for his money that he is worthy of dating their oldest sister.
A slow-burn in the best way that allowed time for Mack and Tal’s relationship to grow; both together and separately. Once the spice hits between them, it burns so intensely. A story with depth, thick with emotion, and ends with healing. This is my third Daisy Wren book and my first religious trauma book and I’m glad that I took this journey with the author.
Thank you to Daisy Wren and Luna Literary Management for the opportunity to read this eArc!
This book was such a beautiful wrap-up to the series.
Talmage completely stole my heart. He has total golden retriever energy and I loved him so much. I loved the little flashbacks at the beginning of each chapter, which gave just a glimpse into Talmage and Mack’s high school sweetheart days and made their second-chance story feel so full-circle. One of my absolute favorite moments was when Talmage decided to read some of Mack’s smutty books, totally unaware of what he was about to get into, and then immediately went through a bunch of her sticky tabs and fell down a rabbit hole of smut. I was literally kicking my feet reading that. 😂
I also went into this fully prepared to hate Talmage’s parents, especially after how Elli, Hannah, and Emma’s parents were in earlier books. At first, they felt just as judgmental, but it was really satisfying to see them understand their reaction was bad and some hopefully genuine (and rare) acceptance come through at the end. 💕
There were a few moments where the explanations of Mormon culture pulled me out of the story, but I get why they’re there for readers who don’t already know it.
Overall, I’m not usually into second-chance romances, but this one was written so beautifully (and I can’t say no to a marriage of convenience plot) that I could not put it down once I started. Daisy Wren continues to impress me with every book she writes, and I cannot wait to see what she writes next.

I have really loved this series, so I’m sad to see the end but I was also so happy to see everyone again one last time!! Daisy always writes so much heart into her books. I can really tell how much care and truth and love she puts into her writing and it always makes for such a beautiful story!!
Tal and Mack! The perfect second chance!!! I loved that we got a flashback every single chapter, it really helped build their entire story! And I really loved seeing them fall in love in the past and really come back together in the present. They both has a lot of things to work through - Tal was leaving the church and Mack was still learning how to be a good guardian to her sisters and keep everyone’s head above water while dealing with her how trauma. And then finding each to her again and getting married (for convenience not for love of course!!!!!) really changed things for them.
They were able to take deep breath and really take the time the needed to figure things out! AND ALSO act on their ooey gooey feelings for each other!! Because they loved each other SO MUCH!!! and I looooooved seeing them finally be able to be themselves with the person they love the most!! I love a black cat x golden retriever couple but Tal really was the MOST golden retriever man there ever was and I love him SO MUCH for it! Mack not only needed Tal, she needed someone who was going to really love her out loud and that was exactly what he was going to do for her!!
I already can’t wait for what’s next from Daisy! She’s got a small town series coming in December! Baker MMC and a mechanics FMC? Sign me up!! And she’s writing sapphic cowgirls???? I’m very very excited about that one 🥹
This book wasn't bad per se, but it didn't particularly impress me either.
The first thing i wasn't a fan of was just how many of Talmage's POV there was. Whilei appreciate a dual POV, I just personally am not a fan of the male POV being more present than the female one... the prologue, 23 chapters, and the epilogue in a 42 chapter (+prologue/ epilogue) book is too much for my tastes.
The second thing, there was like no drama or legitimate climax to the storyline. The whole book was very one note and lack lustre, in my opinion. The most anticipation i felt during this whole boom was when they went for dinner at Tal's parents house, and then i was swiftly let down with it being so bland. I'm not seeking out crazy drama in book or anything, but a little intrigue to keep you hook would've been nice.
I know in the content warning it said there was religious trauma involved in the book, and whilr there was, I still wasn't expecting it the way it was. Like yeah, Tal left the LDS/Mormon religion, but the way in which this book was written and the whole redemption/making peace of it all part made it feel a lot more like a Christian romance novel than anything. Yeah, there's smut it it, but the vibes surrounding the book and the views within it still scream bright side of a Christian romance, which i wasn't particularly a fan of (especially considering how culty the LDS/Mormon religious groups are).
Over all, it wasn't bad... i absolutely loved how much of a golden retriever Tal was, and I'll always appreciate a curvy FMC... but the book in general didn't particularly impress me.
This book surprised me in the sweetest way possible. I love a great second chance romance and this is just that. You have two people that love one another and after years they are reunited. They both struggle with things in their past that tried to keep them apart and some that still do. Add in a side of organized religion and a controlled/sheltered upbringing and I was hooked.
You could feel Tal and Mack’s chemistry the moment they laid eyes on one another after all this time, and you could sense their longing and all the things that remained unsaid between the two of them.
One of my favorite things about this story was Mack’s little sisters. Mack was their primary guardian, and I loved seeing Mack introduce Tal to the girls. Kinsley and Harper gave Tal a run for his money and came with humor and I LOVED it! I also loved seeing what a great big sister Mack was to them and how she put everyone’s needs in front of her own – that is until Tal steps in and shows her that she is his priority and he cannot wait to show her.
This was the best slow burn and allowed time for Mack and Tal’s relationship to grow, it really was beautiful. But when the spice hit, it burned hot.
I love a love story with depth, that’s emotional and ends with healing and this is just that. Thank you, @daisywrenauthor and @lunaliterary.management for this beautiful ARC read – I absolutely loved it!
🔥 dual POV & dual timelines 🔥 second chance romance 🔥 plus size FMC x golden retriever MMC 🔥 inexperienced MMC 🔥 slow burn/mutual pining
What I thought:
Since I’m an unhinged girl who loves a binge read, I did in fact read this ARC in one sitting.
From the jump I was intrigued by this book; as someone who grew up in a conservative area (but not in a religious household), I found this book offered unique perspective about organized religion (LDS specifically).
With the off the charts chemistry, Tal’s golden retriever energy, and the found family aspect of this book, I really enjoyed this story.
Some highlights for me were definitely Lizzie and Mack’s friendship (Liz is for sure my favorite side character), as well as the sister relationship Mack has with Kinsley and Harper — especially as the eldest daughter of two twin sisters.
This book was a bit of a slow burn, but when it burned, it burned HOT (especially since Tal’s a firefighter).
If you love romances with diverse characters and emotional depth, check this one out! As always, please check the content warnings - we take care of our minds around here!
Thank you again to the author Daisy Wren and to Luna Literary for the opportunity for this ARC!
Especially when the characters are now more mature and have realized their mistakes and will do anything and everything to prove it.
Finding a Forever was my first book in the Broken Shelves series but I felt like it was written so well that it clearly stands on its own. I mean who doesn't love a Marriage of Convenience filled with mutual pining, a virgin firefighter MC, dirty dreams and an adorable puppers who will automatically steal your heart?
This was also my first book with a virgin MMC and the FMC guided him. it truly made for some extremely spicy scenes and chemistry that really exploded off the page for me.
Talmage and Mackenzie were absolutely perfect together, and I loved that she was the final push he needed to finally admit that he wasn't happy where he was and leave the church. That was an interesting story line and it was done nicely to help develop Talmage's story while not being heavily involved in the overall story.
Favorite Quotes:
"Mackenzie Thorpe is gorgeous. The sky is blue, the grass is green, fire needs fuel, oxygen, and heat to burn, and Mackenzie Thorpe is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen."
“You’ve been taking care of everyone else for so long, Firefly.
I received an ARC of Choosing a Forever and this is my honest review 💌
Daisy Wren always writes with so much heart. You can feel her lived experience on every page. Her stories are full of tenderness, humor, healing, resilience, and just the right amount of spice 🔥
Choosing a Forever follows Mackenzie Thorpe and Talmage Monson, childhood sweethearts who find their way back to each other through a marriage of convenience that turns into something deeply real. It’s a story about second chances, faith, family, and finding the courage to start again.
What I love most about Daisy’s writing is how beautifully inclusive it is. Her characters feel real in their bodies and emotions. She writes women who are soft and strong, complex and deeply worthy of love and desire. The representation in her books always feels grounded, respectful, and empowering.
If you want to go on an emotional adventure where you’ll laugh, cry, cheer, and definitely blush, Daisy Wren is your person. Her books are warm, healing, and full of heart.
Heartfelt, healing, and full of the kind of love that lingers. Daisy writes the stories that remind you there’s beauty in choosing yourself and believing in forever again.
Tropes: 💍 Marriage of convenience 💞 Second chance romance 👨👩👧👧 Found family 🙏 Religious trauma and healing 🔥 Slow burn + spice ❤️🩹 Emotional growth and resilience
This was a cute, easy read with definite slow burn energy. I’m a sucker for a good second-chance, marriage-of-convenience romance, and Daisy Wren delivered on the cozy feels and emotional depth.
That said, I wasn’t totally sold on the frequent flashbacks—each chapter diving into Mackenzie and Talmage’s middle and high school history. I found myself eager to get back to the present-day storyline!
What I did love? Talmage Monson. He’s the definition of a golden retriever MMC—completely obsessed (in the best way) with Mackenzie. Watching how devoted he was, noticing every little thing about her, absolutely melted me.
This was my first Daisy Wren book, and I’d definitely pick up another. Her writing is tender, grounded, and full of heart.
My first Daisy Wren book, but definitely not my last! 💛
What to expect: 🚒 Second Chance 🌼 Marriage of Convenience 🚒 Single Guardian 🌼 “It’s Always Been You” 🚒 Golden Retriever MMC 🌼 Plus Size FMC 🚒 Virgin MMC 🌼 Hurt/Comfort
Trigger Warning: Heavy discussion around the Mormon faith—especially leaving the church and its repressive nature. I wasn’t expecting it, but it didn’t upset me… just surprised me! (Also, when Mack’s friend called Tal, Peter Priesthood… I LOLed 🤭)
Daisy writes characters who are profoundly immersed in religious trauma recovery. This book is no exception. Our MMC thought growing up that he was supposed to follow his religious predestined path, and our FMC didn't fit that path. She suffers unimaginable tragedy and has to at a very young age, become an adult with grown up responsibilities. He eventually realizes that his initial misgivings about the church and their relationship were founded in his own doubts about the teachings he was receiving and decides to reach out to her after a fateful encounter brings them back together. The story Daisy writes after the initial introduction is one full of emotions and nuance, but more important, of working on recovery as a couple. This is an emotionally charged story, if you like romance stories with substance and realistic relationships, this is your book. They are two ordinary people surviving extraordinary circumstances. If I could rate it higher than 5, it would be up there because even in the middle of all this emotion and trauma, the characters are still optimistic and happy, much like Daisy appears to be in her social media postings.
I’ve been an ARC reader since the very beginning of this series and I couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of this whole journey and hopefully more in the future.
Talmage (Tal) Monson is pure golden retriever energy: loyal, tender, and still carrying a torch for Mackenzie Thorpe thirteen years later. Mack is hustling two jobs and raising her sisters, too burned out for romance until Tal shows up with a marriage of convenience plan that might change everything. The dual timeline was such a fun addition, letting us see their younger selves while rooting for them in the present.
Mack is resilient, relatable, and easy to love. Tal is a sweet soul deconstructing his faith, a virgin hero whose devotion is almost too earnest. He reads romance novels to learn what she might like, keeps notes on her favorite things, and basically worships her from the start. Their slow burn is tender, emotional, and so worth the wait.
Daisy handles themes of loss, love, and religious trauma with nuance and care. This story made me laugh, cry, and feel deeply, while reminding me why I adore small town, second chance romances. It is heartfelt, hopeful, and so rewarding!
The amazing thing about reading is it opens your mind up to new things and in this case a whole new religion I knew nothing about. I went into this knowing nothing about being a Mormon and what it entails, and my tiny little mind was blown.
This is a gorgeous second chance, super slow burn and honoring your true self.
Talmage is a golden retriever firefighter (yes please) who has come back to his hometown. One day he attends a car crash only to run into his first and really only love Mackenzie.
Mackenzie is a hot mess who is barely holding it together after having to move back to her hometown to take care of her twin sisters.
Tal works out a way to help Mack and also get out of the church that he is starting to have doubts about.
It is so refreshing to have a virgin MMC and Tal will melt your heart he is so pure he doesn't swear and he has lived his life to the church rules.
Mack is beautifully broken and slowly gets used to having someone in her life she can rely on and accepts her for who she is whole heartedly.
♡ Second chance romance ♡ Marriage of convenience ♡ Virgin, Golden retriever MMC ♡ Spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ♡ Please review the TWs list before diving in!
As soon as I saw the tropes, I was DONE FOR. Talmage is introduced in the series as someone who’s questioning the church and religion he was raised into, feeling unhappy and unsatisfied with his life. He goes through the motions of life feeling like he’s missing something. Tal had me sooo weak!! He was so goddamn sweet, so eager to please and fully dedicated to taking care of Mack in every single possible way. Something about a man with no experience, whimpering and longing just hits different 😮💨
I read the previous books in the series in preparation for this release and the journey was worth it. I enjoyed meeting all of these characters, getting to know their stories and see their growth. There are two couples/FMCs I’m hoping will get their own stories soon enough — looking at you Sage and Lizzie hehe
💌 Thank you so much Luna Literary and Daisy Wren for the eARC!
Oh my gosh! This book had me laughing and crying all in the same chapters!! Tal and Mack were highschool sweethearts who broke up but you could tell they were meant to be together forever even at a young age they knew what love was. Fast forward to adult hood they both end up back in their small town and fate wanted them together!!
Tal is a bigg golden retriever MMC he is innocent because he grew up in the church and followed all the rules to a tee! So watching him become who he truly was and watching him blossom after leaving the church was done so beautifully well.
The way he wanted to prove to Mack that their second chance was real and he wasn’t going anywhere had me in tears!! He was such a perfect man and seeing Mack be loved the way she deserved after everything she had been through had me sobbing!!
Their were parts of the story that had me rolled over in laughter (garments, and spicy books) also a trope I didn’t know I loved until this book was when a guy makes a mess (IYKYK)!!
