Nigel Rochefort, second son of the Earl of Monfort, has always taken his good fortune for granted, so when the woman for whom he has a secret tendre is about to marry his friend, the only logical thing to do is break up the wedding. But that scandal is only the start. The bride’s sister has also disappeared, and Nigel must first clear his name to assure Artemisia’s affections. As he gives chase, many truths are yet to be learned. This is no simple country dance or game of seduction but an unstoppable waltz of desire—and true love.

Another great story from Alanna Lucas! I think this one is my new favorite. :) I really enjoyed the childhood friends to enemy's story line. The H/h's tenacity kept the story's pace going causing a couple interesting twists and turns. The descriptions were beautiful and I felt like I was imagining the setting perfectly. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and I hope Marcus gets his own story! This book was a wonderful way to spend my evening.

This is the first book I have read from Alanna Lucas. Nigel & Artemisia are childhood friends. Nigel was behind Artemisia's fiancee leaving her standing standing at the author. Artemisia's scandal is only part of the story as her sister Philippa had disappeared and the ton is saying she left because she was pregnant with Nigel's child. Artemisia knows the truth but will not disclose the truth. Artemisia feels she will never marry because she is not a beauty by the tons standards and she can not dance.
Misunderstandings between childhood friends leads to eventually to learning how to dance the waltz and recognizing their love for each other.
I enjoyed the dancing theme in this book since I married my frequent dance partner 33 years ago.

Promises are wicked things.

This was an enjoyable read. The characters were nicely put together and the storyline was quirky. A groom who was a no show, a guest knocked silly by the jilted bride, scandals growing larger with every page, promises causing complications, best friends growling. A good read for me on this rainy day in Chicago.
