Blaze thought leaving school would get her life back on track. It seems to be working as she's invited on the dive of her dreams. Then life throws her into a storm, a break-in, hit and run, sabotage and murder all center around her. Lazaro hates treasure hunters. The excitement Blaze has for every item found on a dive has him suspicious she is one. His physical attraction to her only feeds his distrust. When she’s added to the people on the team to dive for La Trinité, he’s furious. Before they set sail, he finds himself protecting her from a stalker she denies exists. Will her stalker follow them on the dive? Will he be able to protect her? Will he be able to protect his heart when he sees her true colors? Can Blaze and her charismatic project manager unravel the problems surrounding the expedition, or will her Masters men brothers have to fly out to save the day?
This story caught my attention right away with its fabulous setting: a coastal Florida town, where people are concerned with whether or not the French or Spanish got there first... and where their treasure ships sank, too. Blaze jumps out as a fiery, passionate, and competent heroine. She is easy to like, especially as more of her personality is revealed. Lazaro, of course, is a perfect match for her (although neither of them would admit it!), and their growing relationship is delightfully interwoven throughout. Their voices come through strongly, giving me as the reader a fun glimpse into their emotions and thoughts.
I especially appreciated how the rest of the Masters/Collins family joins in the story. Meeting Blaze's brothers - and Lazaro's, too - brought richness to the plot, and offered a bigger picture of how it all fits into the larger story of their family. "Her Master Diver" is a fantastic addition to the series, and one seriously great read!
Another great tale by Sandra S. Kerns! I was a little nervous, as I jumped into this one without having read the previous books in the series. I had no reason to fret. While it was obvious there were some stories to tell in the Masters/Collins family before this one, I never felt lost, confused, or "out of the loop". All it did was give me more incentive to read the previous books! Meanwhile, I thoroughly enjoyed Blaze's tale. The story kept a great pace, the characters were intriguing, and the story had just enough twist to have me thinking, "Ahhh...clever!" As a side note to Ms. Kerns: I wouldn't mind a book someday about Buff's older brother; I bet there's quite a story there, too!
