Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Well let me see, I read book 1 Braving Fate (The Mythean Arcana Series Book 1) and loved it, this book had the same setting but was so totally unlike the first book I was impressed since most second books in series just play off the first book heavily, this one just lightly touches on it.

Warren and Esha are not not exactly a couple of lost souls looking for each other. Their is more like a fencing match and they seem to always say something cutting or insulting when they get together. It takes some work .... well a LOT of work to get these two thinking of the other one as anything but a colossal pain in the butt.

When they end up in some life threatening situations their attraction becomes evident even though they still work hard at denying it, add in some really stupid male foot-in-mouth moments and some real self worth issues with Esha and it still come together as a great story.

Add in some really great action and a decent plot to go along with a train wreck romance and you have a great story.

I HATE any plot that uses a "I have a secret but I can't tell you" and this one does it lightly but still I dislike it, I think it has been so overused by authors that they think real people keep those kinds of secrets all the time.

Bottom Line: Great plot, great setting and characters that you find interesting. I total new world and intriguing situations that in addition to everything else leave you trying to guess who will be the next couple in this PNR/UF combo series. Highly recommended and now I need to find out about book #3

Warren and Esha were intriguing, and I really enjoyed reading their story. They are lovable characters, and loved reading about their relationship.

I'm looking forward to reading Rogue Soul, the third book of The Mythean Arcana!

Having read a lot of other Linsey Hall books, then going back and reading these, I can say this is a very classic Linsey Hall romance structure. They both want each other, both fight it because it will never work and various reasons, give in with a kiss, regret it and go back to avoiding each other, eventually make it as a couple. It's a formula she uses very, very well. This is one of the ones though where a single conversation would resolve 90% of the tension in the book. Warren uses Esha own self-doubt and low self-confidence for his own peace of mind, which is a super douchey move. There was lots of adventure and action and I loved their little side trips to random places.

A presto!

This was disappointing. I thought based on the first book it would be better. I liked the characters, but I thought the book was a little boring honestly. Plus, the ending didn't work for me.

This was a good addition to the series, just another really easy read with good characters and an interesting storyline.

The main characters are Warren and Esha; the two are an unlikely but great couple. Warren suffering from an ancient curse and Esha an exiled sourceress. To say anymore about these two characters and the relationship would be a spoiler but let me just say these two characters are explosive together.

There are some secondary characters but I think they will get books of their own in the other books in the series.

The storyline is great, although secretive throughout only dropping the bombshell near to the end. The pacing was excellent although it was a little rushed towards the ending. I still look forward to reading more books in this series.

3.5 stars a great book

“I doona CARE for you. I LOVE you. There’s a difference. A damn big one. You’ve saved my life, saved my soul, woken me from the coma of existing but no’ living. And I love you. You’re strong, brave, determined, selfless, funny. You’re everything I’ve ever wanted but dinna realize. You’re what makes me whole now, no’ my soul.” - Warren Campbell

Good Lord, why, WHY do you torture me so with guys like Warren?! Do you get some kind of sick satisfaction seeing me drool over their brooding ways or something?!

Warren Campbell has ceased hoping he can ever get his humanity - his soul - back ever again. So it's only undestandable that he doesn't trust soulceresses, since he's in this predicament thanks to one of their kind. But when said soulceress is about to break out of her eternal prison, he will need to work side by side with Esha - who just so happens to be a soulceress, too. What is more, she is the only one that makes his body respond, eager for something he has long shoved away. Will they be able to defeat Aurora and get her back to her prison before her use of Warren's soul breaks him completely? And what will they do when they realize they may be even more perfect for each other than they originally feared?

Well, what can I say? I knew this was going to be a love-hate romance, and wasn't disappointed. I love these types of romances. They have the right amount of drama, and while it breaks my heart to watch two people who would be a really awesome couple throw all this hate and hurt at each other, it also makes the point when they finally break down and get together even sweeter.

Warren and Esha's story was like that. They were always throwing insults and hurtful words towards each other - Warren doing it even more often - and it kept ripping my soul in two sobbing pieces. Why? Because they weren't just wonderful together. They also knew it! And they kept pushing each other away for so many reasons, no matter how valid! I'm telling you, the moment the dam broke, I cried!

And I have to admit, the way things ended... Well, I was shocked! Not only did it surprise me - I mean, I rarely if ever get that kind of feeling when reading anymore - but I also think that Ms. Hall painted a much better picture than the one I had in mind. Trust me, mine was reaaaallllyyyy gloomy!

Ana's story is up next - oh, goody, I like her, she has spunk and she's funny. Plus, she likes Esha as much as I do, so that makes her a lovable character in my eyes.

Warren and Esha are Mytheans, a group of people who are immortal, but they are polar opposites when it comes to their stations within the Mythean ranks. Warren is the respected head of the Praesidium, a select group of Mytheans who not only guard the secrets of their own people, but mortals as well. While Esha, who is under his employ, is shunned by almost everyone due to being a soulceress, one who can drain the powers of others. They’ve been attracted to each other since Esha started working for the Praesidium, but nothing has ever come from it because Warren has done all he can to keep his distance until they are thrown together to hunt down a rogue Mythean.

This is my first read by Linsey Hall and it won’t be the last. I enjoyed the writing style of the author and the flow and pacing of the story. The writing was clean and there wasn’t a lot of filler thrown in, there was a little bit about the couple from the first book in the series, Braving Fate, but other than that everything else had to do with Esha and Warren and their hunt. Esha really made the book for me. Even though she’d been shunned by most everyone in the Mythean world, she took it all in stride. She didn’t like it and knew it was unfair, but instead of throwing herself into a full blown pity party, she went out and kicked ass instead. She also stuck up for what she believed was right and didn’t back down no matter what Warren wanted. Warren, I understood why he treated Esha the way he did, but at the same time I was happy when he finally got past his issues and started to realize what he was missing out on because of it. I liked how their relationship progressed, it wasn’t insta-love but nor was it filled with unnecessary angst. The Chairman and Ana were great secondary characters and I hope to see more of them throughout the series.

My one issue is that while there is no cliffhanger as far as Esha and Warren’s HEA, I feel as if not all of Warren’s issues were fully resolved, I was hoping for a little more on his end, but I still enjoyed how everything was wrapped up for them.

Soulceress is the second book in the Mythean Arcana series. This story can be read as a standalone, but we met both of the leading characters in the previous book Braving Fate, so if read in order you get a bit more of an understanding of the characters.

I loved the first book of this series Braving Fate, so I can into this book with high expectations. I am glad to report that this book lived up to all of them.

Warren is a man without a soul, forcing himself to live as an outsider. Esha is a Soulceress, being forced to be an outsider for what she is. Though these two have chemistry that sizzles when they're near one another, they throw barbs and insults to push the other one away. When Warren and Esha are forced to work together to save the world from an escaped Soulceress, the sparks really begin to fly and the sexual tension begins to build.

While reading the book Braving Fate, I really started to fall in love with Esha and Warren as characters, and I was so excited to begin reading their story. Linsey Hall did these characters justice; really creating a world in which they could thrive and become whole, while in a world in which they were originally outsiders.

While so much of what I loved about Bring Fate also appeared in this book, Soulceress took on a whole new life of it's own. I loved the mythology, paranormal, romance, and adventure that this book contained. Not only was the story in it's entirety well constructed, so were the characters. Both the leading and supporting characters were well crafted and really seemed to come to life as this story unfolded. The romance and sparks that Warren and Esha had few off the page at every turn. The sex scenes in this book were phenomenally written and entertaining, without over taking the actual story. I'm also a totally sucker for epilogues, and this epilogue not only helped wrap up Warren and Esha's story, but it also have a tiny update on Cadan and Diana from Braving Fate **swoon**.

Of course the Mythean Arcana series is nowhere near done, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I really loved this book!

Warren and Esha are such a great couple ... I just was a bit disappointed in the ending, as I want to know if Eshas idea was made reality.

Awesome book! Book #1 Braving Fate was awesome and usually it's is hard for an author to out do the first book in a series but Ms Hall has done it in Soulceress. This is a contemporary period with characters that are hundreds (plus) years of age. Esha and Warren were introduced in book #1 but this book expounds on how they came to be as they are and where they are going in the future. I like both characters because both the male and females are strong and dependable. Esha and Warren have kept themselves separate from anyone else in their lives. Esha dies it because people hate and fear her because she takes some of their 'power'. She never takes too much and her position at the universIty is considered a mercenary. She hunts rogues and bad guys so humans don't learn of magical existence. Warren is in a position of authority at the universIty and avoids Esha and most people because he doesn't feel worthy of their friendship. They both work hard but they also work very hard to avoid one another due to their attraction. I enjoy the way the author explains the characters, the reasons for their feelings and how they deal with those that have magic and those without it. Both main characters have lived very difficult lives and that also helps them to understand each other. This leads to a fierce attraction and them trying to help the other succeed at the task that lies ahead. I have read book 1 and am looking forward to the next book Rogue Soul and other books from this author. Thanks for sharing your stories.

It’s not that immortal Warren isn’t attracted to lonely soulceress Esha or that they’re workmates at Immortal University, it’s that Warren’s soul was already stolen by one of her kind. The wards that imprison Aurora, the soulceress, who has his soul are failing at the witch’s strongest prison, Warren’s at his wits end and Esha’s more alluring by the day.

Warren asks Esha to help the witches re-enforce the wards but is unaware it will cost Esha, leaving her feeling betrayed. As the wards weaken, Aurora manifests with more strength and starts to drain Warren while threatening Esha.

With his health ensured to plummet, Warren enlists Esha’s help to find Aurora though they have different goals. That Warren neglected to tell Esha everything when he asked her for help on this quest becomes clear as the powerful Aurora has secrets of her own to protect.

Exciting, adventurous and full of romance and drama. Esha is a soulceress and Warren is the director of the Praesidium at the university. Esha does consulting and hunts rogue Mytheans and demons.
Aurora is a powerful soulceress in a prison made by the witches and is about to break free. Warren is doing everything possible to prevent her escape. She is the one that owns his soul and is pure evil.
Together Esha and Warren work together to find Aurora and stop her from destroying more lives. Lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing.
Awesome book with strong characters.

Almost a 4

I’d give this a 3.5. This was so much better than the first in my opinion. I felt like their relationship made a little more sense .. seemed more natural, etc... and there are a lot of sweet and fun moments. It kept me interested and wanting to read more. I didn’t rank it higher just bc it was relatively predictable (that’s the challenge with this genre). Anyway, I love how this author weaves history in with the magic.

Soul to soul

Esha was a Soulceress, the only one of her kind in the world, and she was lonely. Other witches were afraid of her because of her talent and she was falling for Warren, her boss. But, when he asks her to keep another evil Soul dress imprisoned she won't do it. She longed to meet another like her and couldn't believe Aurora was evil. What if...

I'm not a fan of quick endings and that's what this felt like. Just as I figured out who Esha was a rushed battle ensued. A soul mate love was declared. And a perfect happily ever after ending occurred. I was a tad bit let down.

Okay Ending

I liked it, but I liked the first one more. I enjoyed the part with her sister quite a lot. Esha and Warren were not my favorite but I did enjoy the conflict they had as a couple a lot more than the first book. That part was really well written. Fun read!
