"THE FAR REACHING TENTACLES OF N'RYGOTH," PART THREE

If your enemy is just too damn strong, well...when you can't beat ‘em, join ‘em. And then from the safety of their trust, that's when you kill ‘em with a good rusty blade to the spine. Rat Queens style.

The transition from issue #7 to this one was confusing, but I still liked it. It was interesting to see Violet’s home life before she left.

2/5 stars for Rat Queens, Vol. 2: The Far Reaching Tentacles of N'rygoth~

1/1 for plot
1/1 for characters and character development
1/1 for writing style (and art style)
1/1 for pace
1/1 for world-building

Same badass shenanigans you'd expect after the first volume. My one complaint is that the art in the second half looks a bit sloppy compared to the first half, such as very bold, scribbly outlines instead slim, clean outlines.

Well, slight spoiler or not, I'm sure we all knew the beard issue would arrive eventually. For being all backstory unrelated to the current major plot arc, it had a lot going for it with the family tension and the hint at an explanation of the Rat Queens name origin - though I did want a bit more explaining of certain tensions... Nice little pull back into main plot arc at the end there - I suppose the writer had to affirm they hadn't forgotten major shit was actually happening despite the obligatory reminiscing.

Possibly a new favorite issue in this series for me. Violet's back story is so moving (and hits maybe a little close to home in many ways) and the tie-in to the present day was really striking. And I love the nod to the origin of the rat standard.

Anyway, this one made me tear up at my desk. Seriously.

My favorite so far. I loved how Violet's mom reacted to her daughter's "F*ck tradition"-moment. I loved everything about this.
