Women of Greece #4

Light Is the Shadow

Rate this book
For fifty years, Fotini Manatou has never stopped thinking about Greece, the country she fled during the aftermath of a terrible crime.

Her granddaughter Lucy has never thought about Greece, at least not until she finds her dead sister's bucket list tucked in the pages of her diary. It's been six months since her younger sister died, and Lucy's stuck on that day, on that final moment, obsessed with the woman whose negligence caused her sister's death.

Desperate to repair her granddaughter's heart and head, and to fulfill one of her dead granddaughter's wishes, Fotini consents to travel to Greece with Lucy, but only under the condition that they don't stay in her home village, Agria. She's determined never to return—too many ghosts, too many people who might remember her name.

Lucy is the one variable she can't control. Her granddaughter has met someone—a man named Akili, who is grieving for his murdered friend.

There is no way for Fotini to prepare for the course Lucy's fledgling affair takes, and no way to rebury old bones once they float to the surface.

Light is the Shadowis a story about family secrets ... and secret families.

Wonderful addition to the series

I love the relationships between the people. And the verbal interplay is fun. Lucy and her grandmother have a good solid relationship. It's fun to watch their new relationships bud and bloom. Even when Lucy can't communicate easily with Akili, it's fun to follow them. If you like a light romance with some humor, this would be a good book for you. I also liked that the grandmother gets an opportunity for romance too. It's a good read.

Continuing to enjoy this series

I love how characters from authors other books make appearances in each other's stories. I really do love Alex's books. The women are so witty and there's usually at least one good looking guy! Aah...Great reading, nothing too taxing or complicated but satisfying enough to leave you with a need for a wee bit more. On to book 5!

Book number 4 doesn't disappoint! I love this series, you get so drawn in, you can almost feel the breeze and smell the salt air. I've other's books to read, but I feel compelled to finish this series.

1.5. Least fave so far. I didn’t feel like we got to know the characters and something about having the 2 fall for each other without knowing what each other were saying annoys me (as a concept).

This entry in the Women of Greece series is fun in that there are two romances covering two generations, a grandmother and her granddaughter. The grandmother fled Greece as a young woman after her husband was killed. The granddaughter requested the trip to Greece as a getaway after her sister died tragically. In the process of exploring the area the older woman comes face to face with her past in the form of her abusive brother, and the granddaughter meets family members she never knew existed. In the process of course, as usual we learn about Greece and hear a lot about the food there. I am enjoying this series.
