Morgan thought the most difficult decision of her life was deciding to become an official employee of the MBRC. But now, a senior in high school, she’s realizing it only gets worse.

With a certain Goblin mob boss urging her to stay within commuting distance of Chicago, and a flirtatious Pooka pushing her to study overseas, Morgan has a hard enough time trying to sort through her college choices the way it is. Planning out her future is made even more difficult when terrorist threats are issued by an anti-human, anti-rehabilitation, magic-based organization. Does Morgan want to continue working at the MBRC when it puts her life in danger?

[June 2023 Update: After rereading this book with my family like the first book I decided to drop my rating from 4 to 3 stars due to there not being much of a plot and lack of villain motivation. The story is still funny and entertaining, it just doesn’t really make or stick the cut of a 4 star book for me.]

Original Review: Such a fun, solid sequel! The author’s writing definitely improved from the first book as this one was tighter in plot and pacing and never meandered or felt disconnected like the first book did at times.

Morgan and her friends get into more scrapes and wild crazy stuff with a dark elf causing quite a bit of chaos and I really enjoyed myself and even wondered a few times how things were going to go down or be resolved. And frying pans for the win as awesome weapons! Though I do wonder if Morgan lifts weights in order to haul even a tiny one around with so much ease—iron skillets are NOT light weight! 😂

The only thing that bugged me was the back cover blurb leads you to believe there’s going to be a love triangle which isn’t the case at all (thank goodness!) as when dating one of the guys is brought up Morgan instantly says they’re just friends and sticks to it without any drama or waffling in any way. So if you hate this trope like I do this series doesn’t have it, so yay!

2.5/5.0

This second in a duology fell short. The FMC was written in this strange adult body but as a high school senior. Her actions, responsibilities etc. were completely 30 year plus stuff. For example: She is a “professor” who teaches multiple courses on human interactions, society and history(???). Plus some of the predicaments are just too silly and bizarre to buy into even in a light, YA Urban Fantasy.

Still, I did laugh out loud a few times, and that alone deserves rounding up to three stars.

I really did like this book, but several factors held me back from a 5 star review. This story is great. I loved all the humor, side characters and the adventures and the challenges the main character deals with, but the romance definitely leaves something to be desired. I was absolutely flabbergasted that the author paired the heroine with the hero that she did. I thought there was better chemistry between her and ANY OTHER MALE in the story. This character DID NOT LIKE the hero of this story. It was not satisfactorily resolved in time for the heroine to actually fall in love with the hero. I get that KM Shea really likes for the heroes to be the one that does all the chasing, but seriously....he should get at least a little bit of encouragement. Without it, he's just an obnoxious man that can't accept no as the answer. Since he's the author's chosen hero...then he really needs some genuine encouragement. A satisfying romance involves attraction on both sides. I envisioned a long monologue scene where the heroine finally confesses her true feelings for the hero and tells him that he was the only person that she didn't immediately forget (from the first book's storyline) and that she found him very attractive and a distraction that she tried desperately to ignore given that she wanted to focus on high school and choosing a career path. I even envisioned her begrudgingly agreeing to chase him more to assuage his hurt feelings and his obvious desire to be loved and chased and desired. Did we get any of this? NO. Big stamp of NOT COMPATIBLE. These characters had no business ending up together. This hero needs love and affection. This heroine is an emotionless moron who has better chemistry with the other males in the story.
I'll be honest, it would not have taken much for this to have been my favorite of her books, but the blasted romance was not satisfying.

The book was great a good come back for the side characters, the humour in the tense situations had me laughing out loud. You felt the love the other characters felt for Morgan, and the thought and consideration she went through in her end decision.
The bad guys were unexpected, with their reason why they acted explained, it also softened you towards them.

The male that was chosen for Morgan was not my choice but it was still sweet begin for them. With the others male relationship, define and neatly explaining.
I would recommend this book I read In one sitting my eyes were glued from chapter one.
Loved it!

This was another fun and goofy read- but this time around Morgan is about to graduate HS, and things at the MBRC have gotten even crazier.

Also, Krad was an adorable villain (which isn't the normal descriptor for most big-bads- but totally in line with this series) And I really enjoyed Harrison's stiff humor.

But the thing that bothered me last time is still my question on how old these guys are? At least Morgan is a bit older now at I'm guessing 18- but how old was Fran's beau Ethan?

Better than the first one. There was a plot and the characters were fun. I wish that Devon and his storyline had progressed a touch faster, but over all very cute and fun!

I've been looking forward to reading this second installment ever since I finished the first. I just couldn't find a moment to fit it in the week before I went on Holiday, but yesterday I came back home and this morning grabbing this book was the first thing I did. Partly because I was in the mood to finish series to begin with (I'm not really counting the short story collection which I will read at some point), but also to counter the other book I was reading that I didn't enjoy this much.

This story starts after some time has passed and yet a lot of things have stayed comfortingly the same. I really liked reconnecting with all the familiar faces, the classes and lessons and the group outings to human musea. The author created this awesome world where everything is possible, where an endless amount of magical beings can make an appearance and where the humor is in the situation and not in characters trying to be funny.

In a way this book also seemed to have a little bit more plot than the previous book. In the previous book the plot was basically our heroine becoming aware of the magical beings and learning about their politics and issues. In this book our heroine is quite comfortable in that role and is now being targeted by an anti-human movement. I really enjoyed the unique fighting scenes. I most of all loved how our heroine eventually bested her captor.

I also loved how the author eventually solved the complicated romantic situation. After finishing the first book I had absolutely no idea who the heroine would eventually end up with and if the heroine would even end up with one of the guys we had already met. In this book we're getting all the answers and the author makes all the feelings, from both our heroine and the guys involved, clear. And I'm quite happy with the eventual outcome.

I will certainly check out the collection with short stories too and the rest of the author's backlist.

In a lot of ways, this book was better than the first. (I know! Rare for a sequel, right?) Biggest reason was Krusher, bodyguard extraordinaire.

Reason #2, KM Shea successfully raised the stakes. No, the world doesn’t need saving (hallelujah), but Morgan’s personal safety is threatened. Which gives the romance the kickstart it needed to finally go somewhere. I appreciate that high school crushing isn’t an all-consuming issue for once. But Morgan, honey, it’s okay you’re in love.

description

Reason #3, the charm of the first book was the exploration of a new and magical world, flipping between normal high school and the MBRC. By book 2, Morgan is well immersed into the magical community. So it's pretty much all MBRC all the time! Muahahaha!

And of course I love what Shea’s done with Morgan’s friends too. Especially Madeline. She’s really developed into a true companion of the heart, not just comedic relief. I'm so proud!

As any of you who regularly come to my blog regularly probably already know, I am totally in love with K.M. Shea’s hilariously fun fantasy novels. This series is one of her best.I love the way she turned so many fantasy tropes right on their head! It’s been so long since I read book one of the M.B.R.C. series, I really need to read it again so I can get around to reviewing it too one of these days. But book 2 is definitely better than 1!

Morgan is such an awesome main character! I adore her sense and her snark. The way she handled the main villain had me in stitches through most of the scenes.

I intensely disliked Devin in book 1. I know that a lot of readers really love him but all of his flirting and constant pranking coupled with mild possessiveness are exactly the things I dislike in a guy. But in this book he – somewhat – redeemed himself....

Great book and it had a great end as well. I loved how funny and interesting the book was. My mom helped me choose this book and I have to say THANK YOU. I highly recommend it. In the book the main character has to overcome many bad people and almost dies. However her magical being friends help her save herself and her friends. I HIGHLY recommend it. THANK YOU MOM.

"I am deliriously happy with my future, and I’m so glad it’s Devin that I’ll be spending it with.
So Dave…if you’re reading this I owe you an apology and my thanks. If you hadn’t blown my world open, I never would have met any of these people, and I love them all. Thank you, Dave, for being a bald, fat, vampire."

i actually like this book better than the first one, although i felt like the conflicts here were forcedly made but hey, at least there was conflicts here. So, here's some recap:

this story took place 2 years after the first book, Morgan now was a somewhat official employee in MBRC who had her own office and assistant even though she was only HIGH SCHOOl! amazing. so there was actually some danger against the MBRC, which is the Fidem (?) lead by Krad (which is the palindrome for 'dark', very original) who disagreed that the magical creatures should integrated with human but prefer to spent eternity in hiding. i think their motivation here was pish posh, they should've just said that they hated human and wish to eradicate them, but i think it would only make matters worst and longer , which doesn't suit this soft and simple story.

so, Morgan, being a human that had a high enough position in MBRC was constantly targeted by Krad and she was attacked several times. first was in a museum when she and her student went on a field trip. the second time was when she was directly confronted by Krad himself after they exchanged insults. the third time, she was actually kidnapped by her bestfriend's boyfriend, a guy named Ethan. but she was only kidnapped for a few hours when Fran herself came to the rescue. after that, she was forced to stay in MBRC, not allowed to leave in order to avoid another attack.

but they finally decided to directly confronted Krad by ambushing him with some help from the Ethan dude, who was actually smitten with Fran so he was willing to betrayed Fidem so he could eventually be released. the attack only went for several minutes and yes, for the first few minutes things was dire (not even THAT dire, as usual, everyone was fine, no one died blablabla), and then they got an extra help from beer brother who actually was an ex-members of this Fidem organization. After a direct confrontation between Morgan and Krad (she drowned him with love that he fainted...), everything was fine, Morgan was praised, blablabla, and it came to the decisions on what she would do to her future.

at first she wanted to leave MBRC because she was tired of the darker side of the magical world, but suddenly (of course), she realized that she actually loved MBRC so she wanted to stay, took a gap year before attending college, and actually went on a date with Devin. after that, a happy ending for her.

thoughts:
- it was still ridiculous how fluffy and non-risky K. M. Shea's worlds are. even the battles were done in a blink of an eye without shedding an ounce of blood. kind of annoying and it just felt unreal (i mean, duh, it was a fiction, but a good fiction should be able to convince the reader that it was actually true and the world is actually magical)
- the lack of Frey's role in this book. it was sad, that he was suddenly being replaced by Hunter. he only popped up every once in a while and never in an important scenes. he was fun to read and at first, i even thought Morgan was going to ended up with him. He really deserved better
- love how some of the ideas were actually outlandish. it was straight imaginative and creative, i actually appreciated that. most memorable for me was the underwater restaurant, where the visitors sat on a floating rug that is NOT GOING TO BUMP EACH OTHER. i think that was very creative (i don't know if it's original or not, though)
- some parts were still overly ridiculous but i enjoyed other parts that actually make sense and funny. overall, it was a rather interesting story to follow.

To echo other reviewers: the writing is better than the first book but I didn't quite like the plot as much.

There is still creative worldbuilding and I appreciate that the time skip allows for a more mature Morgan who is comfortable in this world of magical beings. But perhaps that's part of the problem. She's still a senior in high school. Don't her parents ever wonder about her mysterious, part-time job? All her time appears spent at the center. Does she ever miss the days when she hung out with friends regularly? Or attend prom? Or catch a football game? This clear divide between personal life and professional might make more sense if she was older (even, I'll bite, in college) but there wasn't much tension there at all except that she has less time to spend with Fran. (Though I did really like the inclusion of Fran into this story and I love that busy schedules isn't a tension point in their friendship.)

I really liked Harrison. Krad was a memorable villain . The love triangle, square, pentagon thing wraps up pretty decently.

Overall, a satisfying contribution to the world but I would have liked to see her be more of an 18 year old. Maybe struggle with a few personal things a little more. (You could probably do so by cutting out the dwarf plot, honestly.)

These books are fun. They’re clever, quirky, silly. The main character is snarky and confident which makes her likeable. I do feel like we should meet her family in these books and at least interact with then some of the time… but we never do. It also would have been nice to have more time spent on Devin and Morgan’s relationship developing. It just felt unfinished to me. The way the stories were told. Still super fun and entertaining but something was missing from her stories. Also it was extremely far fetched that this society of mythical creatures that have rarely had humans working with them and have a hard time doing things differently than they have for millennia or whatever, could change so drastically in such a short time. Allowing Morgan to move up the ranks the way she did… also, why did she? Because Devin liked her and she’s friends with the goblin king? Like what was she really contributing? I didn’t fully get that part. There were things that just seemed silly and nonsensical but that’s just the books right? The whole thing is that so why not accept that none of it is realistic or makes any sense. That’s how I have to look at it I guess. Anyway. Fun read. Would have enjoyed more romance and time spent with Devin. But that wasn’t What K.M. Shea was going for I guess and that’s okay!

Another good story

This was yet again another really nice story by K.M.Shea, a lovely continuation of Vampires Drink Tomato Juice; This is where we meeting Morgan a Human teenage girl who discovers the world of Magical Beings and gets integrated into their society as she is able to teach all kinds of individuals of the Human world (the do`s and don'ts). It's been Two years since Morgan joined the Magical Beings Rehabilitation Center (MBRC) and she is a productive member of helping all manner of beings find a common ground in joining human society.

However a radical group (Fedim) is all anti-human and wishes to destroy MBRC and other facilities like it as they believe Humans are weak and should be the ones hiding in the shadows.. and one of their main generals has a really deep-seated hatred for Morgan putting her danger ... But our Morgan is tough and she can do anything she sets her mind to, whether that's challenging the administrator himself or helping a friend propose...

I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad there is another part to it as I felt that the ending needed just a bit more. But it's good stuff had me laughing on occasions and second guessing different parts in the story and even shocked me at the villain. On to the next

This book has had me laughing and beaming with smiles. I could not put it down until I finished reading it. It was such a wholesome and happy read. I cannot believe I did not read this series sooner. I am a huge fan of KM Shea and yet this series kept slipping through the cracks. I am so glad I finally decided to read it.

Morgan is my absolute favorite character trope. She is amazing and wonderful, she see's the potential in others and just looks at the world a little differently and so the way she reacts and treats people reflects that. Because of that she is almost magnetic because of the care she shows for those around her.

I love Harrison! Best character! (other than Morgan, maybe) Just a wonderful stable presence throughout the whole book.

This book is just full of fantastic and very unique characters. I love the relationships and dynamics between them all. I especially love how the close friendships have developed between Morgan and some of the characters.

I will definitely reread this series again in the future. I could easily see this book landing on comfort reads list. I am going to hop into reading all the short stories in this universe immediately!

Romance content: Super sweet. Sweet hugs and kisses (on head and hand).

A super cute story!

Morgan has been working for the MBRC for two years. She has no idea what she's going to do with her life after high school, but she's not sure she wants to work for them. Moonspell tries to get her to sign a contract but after having it checked over, she refuses and calls him out on it. On top of that, a dark elf group, Fidem, is causing issues. They are against integrating with humans and want to take down the MBRC.

When one of their captains targets Morgan, she is surprised to find that he looks to be ten years old. But he's under a curse that makes him look that age. Turns out, he's touchy about that. Can they use that to their advantage to stop him? Between Hunter putting goblin guards on her, Aysel giving her spelled jewelry, and Devin putting a pixie on her, Morgan should be safe. But if she's not, she needs to protect herself.

The way this turns out is going to make you laugh and smile at the same time. And of course, best friend Fran is the hero! Turns out, she knows something is odd about Morgan's job, but refuses to find out more.

A charming story with lovable characters!

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

"Farewell to the M.B.R.C.?" is a good sequel to "My life at the M.B.R.C."
It is more action packed and intense than it's predecessor. It made for a very quick read. I couldn't put it down and finished it in one evening (which is rare for me).

It has what I liked about the first book in the "Magical Beings' Rehabilitation Center," -humorous situations and strong platonic relationships. Morgan continued to be a funny protagonist, as did her friends. This book made me wish that I could be a part of the MBRC!

However, like its predecessor, it did lack in the romance department. [Spoiler] Though I'm still not a big fan of Devin, he did grow on me by the end.
Because this book is not a romance (the romance is definitely more of a side plot), me not enjoying the romance that is in it didn't ruin the series for me. [End of Spoiler].

I think this book, and this series, is definitely worth the read. If you haven't read any K.M. Shea books, I think that the "Magical Beings' Rehabilitation Center" is a good place to start.

3.5 stars, rounded up

This was just as quirky and fun as the first book, and we get more screentime for a bunch of colourful characters, including the villain. What makes me like this less than the first book was the romance. I really think it would have been fine if the relationships had just stayed as friends only. Because the guy she ended up with? I just couldn't see it.

Goblins Wear Suits follows the adventures of high schooler Morgan once again as she attempts to help magical beings return unnoticed to the human world. The story starts two years after the previous novel and has largely the same cast of characters, though the peril that Morgan faces is quite a bit greater than the previous book.

I enjoyed the additional character development of Morgan and some of her closest friends. This book had her realizing her place a bit more and understanding life a bit better, much like many other high schoolers do as they prepare for college. Throw in an evil villain, great humor and a dash of romance and you have a great story.

If you enjoy Shea’s writing, or humorous urban fantasy, give this series a try. Definitely start with Vampires Drink Tomato Juice, but both are fun to read.

This was a fun book that didn't take itself too seriously.

It's obviously an earlier work of the authors - it feels very much like a proto-form of her more recent urban fantasy - but it was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours on a lazy afternoon. If you've read and enjoyed her Court of Midnight and Deception series, you will probably enjoy this. Morgan's relationship with her body guard Harrison (Krusher) is very reminiscent of that between Laylor and Rigel. If you enjoyed this book, you will probably enjoy her more recent paranormal romances even more.

The romance in this series is probably the least developed out of any of her books, but it is still fairly satisfying, and this book has a better developed plot than the first book in the series (which was much more introductory/ slice of life).

Senior at High School, will she survive to graduate?

Terrific. Senior year is now firmly established. Between school work and her work at the HQ she's kept busy. However she still has time for her human BFF. Will this change now that a new threat has been identified. A group of Dark Elves have made it their mission to get her. How will she copes with being kidnapped (not just once either), ambushed, trying to figure out if she wants to go to college away from home and HQ and most importantly which guy has won her heart. A brilliant read about how one confident, outspoken human teenager brought the supernatural world into the modern age. Wonderful characters and written with humour, attention to detail and emotion.

I am loving this series and author, and this modern urban fantasy which is very funny and keeps me reading. I love the heroine. She is not exactly fearless but she is better than fearless. She faces things head on and with pluck. Loving all the characters and their weird personalities. Good 2nd book of a series and definitely not a let down after the first either. Another thing that is great about it is unlike a lot of modern stories with shifters and magical people this is NOT smut. It is a good clean fun read with a good plot and story instead of relying on just sex like many kindle fantasy books. Thank you to the author for making a great heroine and a cool new setting.

This was a great follow up to the first book. Morgan is now a high school senior who isn't sure if she wants to continue with the MBRC after graduating. A dark elf who leads a group that hates humans targeting her isn't helping her desire to stay. Most everyone at the school wants her to stay and her students end up helping protect her.

I love some of the new characters - Harrison is awesome. Favorites from the first book are still around - Hunter and Devin and Aysel and Madeline and Frey. Plus it was good to see more of her human best friend - Fran. And the best thing of all it wrapped up the possible love rectangle in a way that worked out great.

Good sequel

Well written with some really fun moments. This did have a bit of a darker plotline than the first but this didn't stop it being fun to read. I enjoyed the banter between the characters and the way their relationships progressed through the book. It's definitely a YA book but because it's so amusing, this wasn't a problem for me at all. I think Harrison was my favourite side character even though he didn't really say much, which I think says how good the author is at building emotional ties between the characters. I look forward to reading other books by this author in the future.

In this second book of the MBRC Morgan has important decisions to make about her future. She's working hard at the MBRC, finishing high school, fending off attacks by Fidem, and not sure what to do about the flirty Pooka. Her best friend Fran still doesn't know anything about the magical, and Morgan wants to keep it that way.
She loves her work at the MBRC, but feels like she missed out on being just a teen. Maybe she'll go away to college? Maybe not. In the end, if they can't deal with the dark elf Krad, she may not have a choice.
Funny clean book that wraps up Morgan's story in a satisfying way.

Morgan is still working for the MBRC - the Magical Beings Rehabilitation Center, but now she’s teaching classes to help the magical beings learn about human society so they can integrate with them. As a high school senior, though, she has some difficult decisions to make - should she continue working at the MBRC or go away to college? And then, it turns out that a dark elf is targeting her and staying in the magical community has just become much more danger.

Goblins Wear Suits continues the funny MBRC series by Shea. The characters are a lot of fun, although I find some of the humor a bit too silly for me, the overall story is a light and enjoyable read.

i loved the first book in the series, and was so excited to read the next one! I was actually really excited to learn that there was another one!
I would say it's not QUITE as good as the first, it seemed a little short and with a few similar ideas, such as the kidnapping and things. But still a great, hilarious read! Most of the characters from the previous book return, along with a couple of new ones. Well worth a read if you enjoyed the first book, but definitely read it first (My Life at the MBRC)
