An inspiring, devilishly funny tale of hope, secrets—and hard-knock faith that can make the most impossible situations right…
For Sister Betty, the marriage proposal from trustee Freddie Noel is a once-in-a-lifetime surprise blessing. Unfortunately, she knows the chances of having a peaceful ceremony in their beloved Crossing Over Sanctuary Church are slim to none. But she’s armed with enough sense and scripture to keep contentious church busybodies Bea Blister and Sasha Pray Onn from sowing even more chaos amid the congregation—until a rehearsal disaster and an unexpected secret causes Freddie to break off the engagement without explanation…
While this no-nonsense prayer warrior needs all the holy backup she can get, her pastor, Reverend Leotis Tom, is desperately dodging temptation as Mother Pray Onn’s wild-child niece and Betty’s young cousin compete to become his First Lady. With her happiness, the church’s future, and Tom’s sanity on the line, Sister Betty will need to kick some spiritual butt, take names—and fight for some major soul-saving miracles.
Honestly, there were more curse words being dropped in this book than i really liked. I mean this is a christian book. Or it's supposed to be, when I picked up christian fiction i expect the language to be clean. I started noticing that in the last book as well. It's an alright story. I needed something to listen to in the car, and they're easy listening. (I've gone through what like four within the last couple weeks.) I think there are two more books with this cast of characters and I'm debating whether or not I'm going to listen to those as well. Overall there was a bit more drama than I felt was really necessary and as over the top as the people were I haven't really laughed out-loud since the first book. Recommended? Eh Buy/Borrow? Borrow
This book is hilarious and full of drama. These older Christian folks take it to another level. Sister Betty met Freddie the church trustee they fell in love and he proposed upon the time to get married Freddie got sick. Freddie his his illness from Sister Betty. He got better they plan their wedding but unfortunately Freddie got sick again and was hiding it from Sister Betty she know something was wrong but no one would fill her in so she did fasting and prayers asking God why he send her a man who cannot go through with a wedding. Sister Betty cousin Shavron, pastor Leotis, Delilah and Deacon Thurgord all come together and have Freddie talk to sister about his illness which is cancer they secretly plan the wedding and their honeymoon which was a cruise to Jamaica and Mexico. A wonderful story.
❤️😂 I enjoy all of Pat O’Gorge’ books📚. She keeps you glued or tuned in to every page. I couldn’t put the book down, could read it over and over again with no regrets... Read most of P O’ books, few years back, but never forget the name of them. There is a message in every book. Great reads👏🤗
I've never laughed so hard while listening to a book. That hospital scene between Freddie and Bea had my stomach hurting. So many memories of my grandmother and the other church ladies. I've just discovered Sister Better and can't wait to read other books by the author.
Pat G'orge-Walker took us there once again with a side-splitting tale of Sister Betty and her family/friends/foes/folks she's not sure about.
All Sister Betty wants to do is get to the altar with her beloved, Trustee Freddie Noel. Between health challenges, interfering church mothers Sasha Pray Onn and Bea Blister, her pastor's challenging love life and just plain old stubbornness between two lifelong singles, that simple desire is in jeopardy.
Sister Betty is thrilled to have her young cousin, successful attorney Sharvon, move to her town to take a new job, but not so thrilled to see her pastor Leotis Tom torn between feelings for Sharvon and lust for the recently un-engaged Ima Hellraiser. She's already saddled with Mothers Pray Onn and Blister determined to throw her a wedding reception when she has specifically told them not to; all this drama is causing friction between her and her beloved Freddie.
In her usual hilarious style, G'orge-Walker takes us through all their trials and tribulations and still finds a way to remind us that God is still in charge, even when we're so busy doing our own thing that we can't remember this. No spoilers here, but I'm still cracking up at how each of these pressing situations gets resolved. Warning: do NOT read this book in a public setting where folks will look at you strangely when you burst out laughing.
A funny book about faith, following the Lord, and awkward situations. Sister Betty is engaged to Freddie Noel. While preparing for the wedding, and being hassled by Bea and Sasha, two ladies from the church, Freddie has a secret which causes him to call off the wedding. Sister Betty is devastated and has no idea why. Meanwhile, Sister Betty's pastor, Reverend Leotis Tom is caught in between Ima, Mother Pray Onn's niece, and Sharvon, Sister Betty's young cousin, who are both after the first lady title.
This book was funny and enjoyable. I really like Sister Betty. She is a God-fearing woman who tries her best to follow the Lord. Freddie is good for Betty but withholding secrets from her ends up making more of a mess than if he had just shared the truth with her. Reverend Leotis Tom really plays with fire while being tempted by Ima and pulled by Sharvon. This book had some laugh-out-loud moments. The author has a very fun sense of humor and I love how she portrays that throughout the book, especially with the names of her characters. I really enjoyed reading this book.
I received a copy of this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
What do you get when you combine Sister Betty, Trustee Freddie Noel, Mother Sasha Hellraiser and Mother Bea Blister, along with some of their relatives and old friends? A HOT MESS. Mrs. Pat Walker has done it again with her crazy characters. You will be laughing and crying during the whole story. It was excellent. And I can't wait ti see what happens next with this senile crew.
I really enjoyed reading this book. There were so many characters with the most unique names all caught up in other folks business. At one point I was fussing at them and then other times I found myself laughing out loud. Freddie and Betty are real sweethearts.
The shenanigans in Pelzer, SC continue you and I love it. You never know what to expect from this band of troublemakers. Pat G'Orge-Walker delivers another page turner that makes you laugh. You get comedy and a message at the same time. Another winner.
