A mysterious and terrifying Creature is stalking the woodlands surrounding the quaint, mountainous town of Lycona. Frightened and searching for answers, the people turn to Benjamin Walker, a handsome Native American drifter who has wandered into the area. He explains that the Creature is the fabled Nephilim of Genesis: part human, part spirit. Deputy Cliff Janowski launches a hunt for the Creature, but he is stymied by the crippling haunts of his past. He must ultimately decide if he can face his sins.
Benjamin’s influence begins to undermine the Bible and the faith of the small town. Only Pastor Sandy Kelly stands in his way. But Sandy’s faith is under attack. His life has been shattered by the revelation that his father, a former pastor, has turned his back on the church. Sandy’s faith is inspired by the beautiful Ellie Lawson. Her unexplained aloofness, however, causes Sandy to question her past.
As Benjamin’s grip on the town increases, Sandy is challenged to find the strength to rekindle his relationships and the faith to engage in a spiritual battle for the souls of Lycona.
The Nephilim: A Monster Among Us is a fast-paced, thriller novel with a faith-based theme.
Dane has worked professionally as an investigator for over 33 years. He has also served as a pastor and missionary. Currently, he is involved in jail/prison ministry.
Dane began writing in his youth. As an avid backpacker, he began to combine his love for writing with his love for the outdoors by publishing online journals at his web site. He also has published short, theological papers in responses to questions that were posed to him by readers.
Knowing that Dane has a passion for the outdoors and a strong faith, I was really looking forward to this book. Growing up in a small church, I found his characters believable and his settings true. How can you not like a book that opens w/ a couple camping after a hike in the woods encountering the monster? This was a well written novel that I would recommend.
The book starts out a little bit creepy. There's a death...or two...or three, and a strange creature milling about that seems to have something to do with it all. Strange how each of the victims who are dying in accidents are pillars of the local church. Meanwhile a deputy in the local sheriff's office investigates the monster while a reporter does the same. And there's a drifter with a new age theology who has an explanation for it all...
The author does a wonderful job of making characters in the book feel real - even the minor side characters have little histories, flaws, and strengths. And I liked the creepy beginning, since I'm a reader of both Sci/Fi fantasy and horror. I had high hopes for the book because of the mystery woven within it all. During the debate near the end between two main characters, a lot of early biblical apologetics is sprinkled in which I found informative, but others might find preachy. It's not done in a heavy handed way, and flows well with the story.
I received a copy of the audiobook for review from the author in exchange for my HONEST review. The producer/narrator of the book does a good job keeping the action flowing and helping you forget you're not in the story.
This was one book that I didn't want to put down. It was scary and it was awesome.
The story starts out with a couple camping in the woods and a noise wakes them. The man, Cliff, a deputy sees what's lurking in the woods. And doesn't believe it.
Sandy, the pastor of the church, has had his faith shaken because of what his father did when he was younger, and now he doubts that he can lead his flock.
Then comes Benjamin, a charismatic young man, who tries to make those around him, bend to his way of thinking, snd tries to take over the church.
The forest monster scaring people in the town of Lycona. Is the monster bringing messages to people that see it like Benjamin says, or is there a bigger monster that the church and town need to recognize.
The book is fast paced and keeps you on the. edge of your seat. Dane Camer makes you think about your own religious views and what you know about the bible. This is a book worth reading.
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I wish there was more on what is being described as the Monster, but it was a great story at any rate! Mysterious creature, murder, mystery, corruption, spiritual, all of the above! This was a great read for me!
This was a great story that I enjoyed. There are scenes that seem so real, like you are right there. Then the monster makes you think and think again. Then just when you have it figured out, figure again. Dane is a good storyteller and this novel is no exception.
