This a wild book. Amazing scholarship. Amazing commitment to carefully reading and evaluating the sources—really admirable.

Probably too in the weeds for normal readers but if you want to go deep deep into the narrative of the history of the council of Nicaea, this is the book.

"Embarrassing data are the protagonists of this story. At times, the researcher detests this kind of evidence that destabilizes the most recent reconstruction. The temptation to bypass is strong—there are many polite ways to do that. However, the mortifying textual evidence, when it is considered seriously, opens new horizons of research."
