Joss Kelley’s life has never been easy, but these days she’s quite confident when it comes to rolling with the punches. No matter who’s throwing them. So when her son’s father shows up out of the blue threatening to take him, Joss stops at nothing to sway the judge in her favor. Even if it means making impromptu marriage proposals to random strangers she finds sitting in her brother’s bar.

After 9/11 Derek Tice knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life. Until six months ago when he was honorably discharged after spending thirteen years as a Navy SEAL. Now, with no more operations to plan or missions to complete, he’s feeling strangely lost and useless. Since going back is not an option, he has no choice but to find a new worthy cause he can dedicate his life to.

Joss Kelley and her son just might be it.

Dog Lover who likes her pastries full of cream and sugar...oh...and I write some ;-)

Aside from being an author, I am also a mom to a beautiful little girl. I tell everyone I named her after my great-grandmother (because that's the mature answer), but really, I named her after my favorite princess - just so happens I got lucky and they had the same name...If I wasn't a writer, I would work on a horse ranch - I'm an animal lover (in addition to dogs, horses are at the top of my list). I wear flip-flops pretty much everywhere I go. I would rather stay awake until 5 am than get up at 5 am (years of bar tending have left their mark), if I can, I'm going to the beach AND I will always be nice to people who bring me chocolate...or coffee...if you bring me both, I'll probably love you forever.

I write the way I live, following the story wherever it may lead, always ready to start the next one. This is clearly reflected in my body of work which to date includes everything from Children's Lit to Thrillers.
I happily reside in sunny Florida (for now) with my daughter and three dogs.

Edit: So I had originally marked this at 3.5 stars but looking back and re-reading some of my favorite passages I had to raise my rating to 4 stars. I loved the hero and little monkey man!! Lol

But the book was not perfect so I'll start off by what I liked:

-The H was great! He was a good guy, willing to marry the h and help her keep her son's custody, when he barely knows her! I've been getting stuck with H's who keeping pushing the h away so it was great to finally find a H who gave chase.

-The h's son, Wyatt was too cute. I absolutely adored him! And I loved seeing the H and Wyatt interact.

- The H&h had some great chemistry and I could not get enough of the times when they were just in the present and not worrying about the past or future.

Now onto what I didn't like and why this didn't end up a 5 star book for me:

-It was a clean romance! :(

-I wanted to bitch slap the h multiple times. I got a H who chased but a h who pushed. Just great. It's so rare to find a book where one or the other doesn't push so I tried not to let it bother me too much but at the end I found her pushing unnecessary and mean.

-That ending was way too out of the blue and kinda unsatisfying for me. Like, what the hell was that.

"Whatever it takes." That's the recurring theme throughout "Unhurt" by K.S. Thomas, and it makes for one hell of a ride! Joss Kelley will do whatever it takes to protect her son. Former Navy SEAL Derek Tice will do whatever it takes to make amends for a mission that ended badly. And Travis Buratta will do whatever it takes to get his way, including gaining custody of the son that came from a forgotten one-night stand, a child he doesn't love, doesn't care about, and doesn't really want. He just doesn't want Joss to have the boy, and is willing to physically harm little Wyatt if it means Joss loses custody. Whatever it takes.

Thanks to K.S. Thomas's stellar style, I didn't feel as if I was reading a book. Instead, the witty, snappy writing made it more like having the story whispered into my ear by an irreverent friend. Joss and Derek are an absolute hoot together, and Joss's Aunt Deb is a delight.

And the ending? You'll never see it coming. This is a gem of a book!

UNHURT K.S. THOMAS

Joss is a single mom raising her son Wyatt, the only thing is Wyatt is her best friend’s child and when the birth father comes along to cause trouble just does something surprising to save her family. Along comes Derrick Tice with a hot body and a tongue dripping with sarcasm. The exchanges between Joss and Derrick are priceless and the love scenes will steam up your windows in no time.
This book was a roller coaster ride between humor and heart ache and shows what people will do to protect the ones the love from hurt of any kind. I laughed, I cried and I gave it 5 stars for fantastic storytelling.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were realistic and flawed and very likable. Joss is a strong independent snarky women which I loved and Derek is a laid back, slightly snarky ex-SEAL. How could you go wrong with that match! The story was a little more PG that I usually like. The only negative thing I can say is it was too short. I would have loved the end of the story in detail instead of a quick run down of how things turned out.

Narration was AWESOME!!! I really couldn't stop comparing Sarah Beth Goer to Amanda Ronconi and that is a huge compliment IMHO.

This book was a great read. The heart warming story that not all families look the same. The true unconditional love is what is really important. That sometimes the good people have to do this they would never normally do to keep the people we love safe. Didn't see the ending coming but I think it really did fit the book. Sometimes we make our own future bright thinking outside the square. Loved it. Thanks

So GOOD!!!!

I can not believe I hadn't heard more or read more by this Author! The book was really good, I love the characters and how dynamic they were. Great Plot line and the only reason, it's not 5 Stars is the ending, it built and built and built and then bam! It was done.... I guess I either wanted a guarantee second book or a pretty little bow of a resolution. overall still a good book, and I want to read more by KS Thomas.

Navy SEAL to the rescue

Joss is living her life with her four year old son Wyatt, her brother Bobby and he aunt Deb. When her baby daddy shows up and wants custody she will do what ever it takes to keep her son. So one night when she is at her brothers bar she locks eyes with handsome and sexy Derek. He is an ex Navy SEAL and is at loose ends right now not quite sure what to do with his life. Joss comes up with a crazy plan to get fake married, well actually married legally but not in the other ways. She figures this will make her custody case stronger and Derek is the man who fits the plan. She plans that once she has custody of Wyatt she and Derek will get divorced and she will go back to her life with Wyatt and her family and Derek can go back to his life. Well as we all know the best laid plans do tend to go array and Joss's definitely does.

So I was rolling with this story, even as crazy as it got at times, until the ending. It was a bit much for me to even fathom something like that happening in this day and age. However, I still liked this book and enjoyed the story. Joss and Derek have great chemistry and once they get together it is interesting to watch how they work things out. Wyatt is a great kid and you have to feel for him. So overall I liked this book but it is not my favorite by this author.

I received an ARC of this book from the author for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Derek met Joss and thought she was the most beautiful woman he ever saw. But Joss was not looking for a man in her life, she after all had one, even if he was only four years old. Her son, Wyatt, was the most important thing in her life and she will do anything to keep him safe, even marry a stranger if that would help. Derek leapt to talk her up on her offer, even though he knew this was only temporarily and that, when she learned about his past, she will want nothing to do with him. Their attraction to each other made the marriage real but they shied away from their feelings. When Joss saw him with Wyatt she knew that this was what they need in their lives but is he only there to protect them? And when she found out what lies in his past, will she be able to forgive him for something he find it hard to forgive himself? And to what lengths will they go to in order to protect their little family? The book had me hooked from the first word and I could not put it down. i loved all the characters especially Derek, who had such a caring protective side but also playful even with his past experiences.

Gotta love a damaged hero! Joss is a dedicated mom to her four year old son Wyatt. She has a supportive family and a good life.
When Wyatts father reappears in her life with his new family she knows he hasn’t changed. She decides that desperate times requires desperate measures.
Enter honorable former SEAL Derek. He agrees to marry Joss to help her court situation.
He connects with Joss and Wyatt and finds a new purpose in life. Their love is quick but solid and stands the tests before them.
First time reading this author but will definitely read again.

Unhurt was one of those stories that drugs you and will make you craving for more! It ravished my heart but made it soar at the same time! Joss is in a pickle and the only thing I can say at this moment is that she is not going to give up no matter what, which leads to Derek. Oh wow! This will keep you up and will have going for these characters. I love the interplay with Joss and Derek but sealed it for me was Wyatt. I loved this story and it is going on my to reread list! Lovely story!

A Mother's love

This book was a quick read and I couldn't put it down. I had to know how Joss and Derrick's story ended.

This book is about the love of a mother and hiw she will do anything to protect her child. I didn't see the end coming, however. This book is so wonderfully written and so enjoyable. I only wish there was more of their love story. I want more steamy love scenes between the two and wish there was a whole series.

Please pick this book up and read it you will not be sorry.

okay mild spoilers but the ending of the book really came out of nowhere and slapped me in the face. I really liked this story right up until the last chapter then it ended in a way I just can't bring myself to like. it was a 4 star read up until then. The characters have great chemistry and while it's a clean book which I normally don't enjoy as much everything else was making up for that. the vibes I got right at the end feels like the author got tired of writing about them and that just makes me sad the story could have been wrapped up in a much different way

Joss has a fun life. She restores/reinvents thing from home. She has the crazy hippie aunt Deb. The brother Bobby that owns the local bar and lastly a four year old son Wyatt. Add in her new man Derek who is a retired Navy Seal. He also works with restoring thing. He has a dog Hattie that is also a support dog. Add in a crazy bio father and a court case to take her boy away and this book is epic.

A sweet romantic summertime read. The characters are strong, well developed and realistic. They are each dealing with their own issues from their past but will unconditional love win out in the end? A heartwarming and enjoyable story line that flows smoothly through the pages and captivates the reader.

Beautiful story

This one was close to my heart. I love someone an awful lot like the main male character. I’m not going to tell you about the story, I want you to experience it yourself. After, during it before…say a prayers for our Military. ❤️

I really liked this story until the very end. Not that it was a bad ending, but I just wasn't sure how I really felt about the way that it ended. Still a well told story, and I liked the characters.

Audiobook

Narration - Sarah Beth Goer - Pretty good. I liked her Character voices. This book is written in dual POV and I sometimes got confused during Derek's chapters because, while she does a good male voice for Derek, she reads his POV in the same voice as she does Joss's. So I was listening to his thoughts but in what I perceived as Joss's voice.
Her performance really captured the snarkiness of Joss and loved it when Joss got all bent out of shape. Also loved her voice for Joss's son.

So I really enjoyed the book. In the beginning, I thought the mentions of Derek as an ex Navy Seal were a little pointless but as the book moves along, you understand why.

Joss and Derek meet and are smart A$$es with each other from the get-go. I felt a chemistry between them right from the beginning. Joss is a mix of laid back and high strung. I loved how Derek was so laid back and would bring her back down to earth when she was ready take off like a rocket.

There's some sex in the book, not detailed or erotica by any means, but you get the point and it was kind of a mix of steamy and sweet to me.

Did NOT see that ending coming in any way shape or form, but I loved it.

This book had a little bit of everything, which made it a fun listen for me. I loved the quick marriage leading to full romance of Joss and Derek. The villain of Travis made for good suspense(is he coming, what is his next move, will Wyatt be OK?), but to me the real unsung star was Aunt Deb. With sage advice, great cooking and lots of wit, she added a lot to this storyline. This book held my interest from start to finish and was thoroughly enjoyable.

This was the first book Ive read by Ms. Thomas and throughly enjoyed it. My only complaint is I wish there was more details, it needed to be longer or something, don't know what but something was missing. Overall I loved the characters and the storyline. Derek was a great person, giving all he could asking nothing in return. Joss now that was a broken woman that refused to give up and the two of them together made a great team. I will definitly read more of her work.

Unhurt is another fabulous standalone book by K.S. Thomas. Again, another solid storyline that had me hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely loved the twists and turns that the author put into this book and the ending was not at all what I was expecting. The characters had depth, emotion and lots of smoking hot chemistry. Pick this book up and give it a try....you won't be disappointed!! Looking forward to more books by this author!!

Very cute romance with different ending

I usually don't go for books by author I don't know and this one had 4 starts so I thought why not?

Let me tell you this is a very cute romance, with witty and funny dialogue, the cutest little boy and the dreamiest alpha male.

Joss was very good as well. This story is about love, friendship, family and a very different but good ending! Enjoy!

This is by far my favorite book of K.S. Thomas'. We all need a Derek in our lives to fall in love with. Joss is a woman that I would love to be my mom, who would fight for me no matter what. Wyatt was completely adorable and made you fall in love with both Joss and Derek even more. Pick up this book and you won't be disappointed!
