I've always been a good girl, a rule follower. At least until I started working for billionaire bachelor Knox Crawford.
Owner of LA’s pro soccer team. And my ex’s dad.
The more time we spend together, the harder it is to fight our growing attraction. And the easier it is to forget our roles, to ignore the fact that I used to date his son.
Sleeping with the boss could get me fired. But sleeping with my ex’s dad could tear my life apart.
Breaking the rules only seems fun—until you get caught.
Jenna Hartley is USA Today bestselling author who writes forbidden romance that feels good, much like her own real life love story. Her stories feature strong women and swoon-worthy men, as well as sexy, sweet, and laughable moments that reflect real love.
When she's not reading or writing romance, Jenna can be found tending to her growing indoor plant collection (pun intended), decluttering (just ask her husband about "The Great Purge of 2015" as he calls it), and hiking. She lives in Texas with her family and loves nothing more than a good book and good chocolate, except maybe a dance party with her husband and daughter.
While Jenna Hartley has proven herself to be a readable name in age gap romance, I did regrettably struggle to maintain my own interest in what I hoped, as the title declares, to be a great temptation. We have an interesting opening with a 27-year-old Kendall who's been the sole manager of her mother's cancer recovery process and every difficulty that accompanies the general life admin of such a bittersweet responsibility. Her mother's diagnosis changed her life and derailed her dreams, and the deep worry over her parent's ailing health is never too far from her mind. Kendall is then encouraged by her mom and best friend, Emerson, to start living life for herself again, and to revive the dreams of a life of her own. This particular dream job Kendall declines is never detailed, and I have to say that the story doesn't create a clear voice for Kendall's particular career ambitions bar enjoying the diversity of language studies and mildly flirting with potential job opportunities. She expresses that she had a history of taking her measure based on her romantic relationships of past but the story doesn't do very much for her in the space of personal value and development. I didn't feel that she was making choices in regard to her ambitions outside of her relationship with Knox. What began with a life-seizing conversation set within the grounds of a hospital treatment room with Kendall and her mom, a mother giving her daughter a gentle shove in a self-serving direction, the story struggled to grasp the palpability of what could have been a binding development of some form of self discovery which she finds with an older man and as a result of her own choosing. While Knox and Kendall seem to connect and click on-page, their relationship is not something I felt great chemistry with In particular. The romance itself skims the wholesome surface it delivers with a gentle tenderness, without breaking through to touch the gold of a connection I was told to be rather magnificent. Which it was for the two of them, if not for me. Temptation is admittedly sweet, loving, tender, gentle and warm, but without the believable transitions and the tether-some groundwork to concretise a connection I really wanted to feel. Following some very big anticipation, I experienced a fairly consistent level of disconnect with this story and the central characters, and there were different reasons for that I digress.
Through an agency that services wealthy clientele, Kendall receives a placement to caretake a billionaire's new home. It belongs to, unbeknownst to her, her ex-boyfriend's father, Knox Carter. She's unwilling to commit herself to a live-in position but decides to take the enviable job offer and temporarily live in a neighbourhood that houses the ultra rich. She's holding onto a lot of responsibility but taking on the responsibilities of a luxurious home are too thrilling to pass up. Admittedly, we do have a rather dashing, mature and wholesome hero in Knox. He is something of an older man masterpiece. He's entrepreneurial, family-centric, thoughtful, an owner of a successful sports team, a charitable human being, a family man and a dedicated father. He has a lot going for him in quality to his hero potential. The surreptitious yearning of a hero, along with his falling rather fast and hard, is something that always puts a male lead in my good books. Once Knox is dedicated, he's dedicated, and I did appreciate that about him, especially in regards to Kendall, and especially in mind of his own quiet fears and hesitations. He's attentive and thoughtful, mature and composed. He managed the hesitations between himself and Kendall along with the difficulties pertaining to his relationship with his son, with admiration and grace. Taking the risk of losing the most important relationship of his life to pursue something of his own by leading with love is a risky parlance, and yet he was everything a hero should be in thought to Kendall. The general tone and the protagonists do share similarities to the style of another Hartley romance. Knox reminded me of another Hartley hero, Inevitable's love interest to be exact, and the more I thought about it, Knox does resemble him in numerous ways. Kendall also seemed to share some resemblance of a personality to that book's heroine. I do have to circle back to my earlier point because while the qualities and elements of a potential romance were there, the felt connection and the exposition left something to be desired. Knox's thought processes were also rather repetitive in regards to Kendall. I was told on many occasions, and from both sides, how much more potent the attraction was becoming, how deeper it was evolving to be, without both seeing the development of it on-page and without experiencing scenes to support and entrench those feelings into form. The development was much more mellow, much more mild. I have to say that this was one of the reasons I couldn't bridge the gap between what I felt and what I was being told.
Which brings me neatly into my next point concerning the many discouraging romance-inhibiting time skips. For me, there was a great deal of showing over telling with Temptation, and the story did indeed suffer for it. I often had the experience that I'd missed pivotal transitions. The tone was wholesome, tender, loving and forbidden, but the unexpected time jumps disturbed the romance in ways I believe the author hadn't intended for them to. And each time jump formed a distance between my experience of the budding couple and how I perceived the storyline's developing romance. I gradually began to feel a widening gulf that ultimately muted my experience. The relationship growth could have used some fleshing out, and I think the story's scenes could have done more to establish a connection between Knox and Kendall. The sexual tension was rather deep and swift, which didn't particularly encourage the sense of the well- developed intimacy I was expecting. The chemistry was fine but it definitely harboured the potential for an elevated representation through some scene play. Generally, the story felt rather recollective, or recollection-based as opposed to witnessing the intricacies of a romantic development play out in real time. What resulted was evasive storytelling, and a fair sense of ambivalence on my part. I was also rather disappointed that, of the many team games that ostensibly occur within the story's timeframe, we didn't get any on-page team matches with the Leatherbacks when Knox's sports team are said to be akin to family. In addition to that, Knox's chosen endearment for Kendall felt somewhat flat, and likely would have held more gravity if we'd actually had a window into some of their Spanish lessons - which also occurred off-page. The story was intimate without feeling the fullness of said intimacy, and overall, I was left with the feeling that much was overlooked and many opportunities were missed. Knox is said to be rather close with his family, but they weren't given the presence and inclusion in the story I was expecting them to have. I do love a successful unit of billionaire high fliers, but given their lack of presence, I didn't feel particularly invested in their respective lives. What promises all manner of potentials for a live-in situation between Knox and Kendall was additionally rather underwhelming, I regret to say.
To dive into some of my fallbacks, there also wasn't very much going on story-wise to maintain a sense of interest. There was no particular storyline barring the scent of the forbidden in regards to the age gap and the delicacy of disturbing Knox's relationship with Jude. Not very much to look forward to for the most part, and the style of the prose embodied the form of an overview next to an exploration of a romance that I really wanted to feel invested in. The peripheral elements that could have elevated the story, were more or less sidelined or relegated to existing off-page, and the relationship between Knox and Kendall wasn't enough to inspire a great sense of investment in them. Their connection seemed to hinge on some form of mutually recollective attraction. Kendall's attraction to Knox is more obscure, I'm unsure from whence it came, nor how it materialised, only that she begins to develop some feelings for him while living in his new home. Knox's attraction to her was much more clearly expressed. He was smitten since he first met her, and has secretly yearned for her ever since, even in full awareness of the impossibility of his personal desire to have her as his own. Aside from that, then came some struggle with the characterisation, of the heroine particularly. In comment to Kendall's character, It wasn't an easy feat to feel into her personality. Or understand her. I didn't know enough about her to appreciate her. I was routinely told about how kind hearted, loving and caring she was by various characters without developing a knowing and insight to her myself. I preferred Knox, but again I liked him enough without loving him. As I mentioned, I loved how absolutely enthralled our hero was, his fascination was rather intense and deep. We have some very loving moments, loving gestures and a general tenderness that works its way throughout the story with a gentle ease, and between them brew something lovely, loving and of course steamy. I equally appreciated how the fallout was handled, that it didn't arrive at the expense of the relationship. I also appreciated how the loyalty and love between them, when threatened, held true when the situation could have so easily been weaponised in an effort to have them part. I appreciated even more than the separation between the couple was predicated on more of a personal note and a personal need.
Comprehensively speaking, there was something rather incomplete about this and it therefore didn't maintain the satisfaction factor I was looking for. All in all, I do believe that this romance lacked some essential layer and the execution of the storytelling created an unanticipated distance which did mar the experience for me. There wasn't a great deal to feel compelled by and I think I went into this with a loose ideation of what it would be like and what it would be about. That's not to say that Temptation isn't a passable read for romance readers. Even so, readers will still find an enjoyable, well-written romance for some easy reading. Though my interest did regrettably wane, this book does include various tropes that I thoroughly enjoy; a billionaire gent (and sports team owner), an irresistible age gap, an ex-boyfriend's father storyline, live-in proximity and a boss-employee dynamic. Although this was a reasonable piece of romantic escapism, I did like the couple without loving them. The communication between our central couple, however, is what I like to see in romantic relationships. Temptation was admirable on that front. I did appreciate the sensitivity to and the navigation of the vulnerabilities. The dissonance between Jude and Knox was also believably tackled. If you love stories with a hero surreptitiously enthralled, one who always puts his heroine first, a graceful transpiration of the age gap and a broadly tender and loving relationship (with some intense steam) tested by longing, vulnerability with the complication of the forbidden, you'll enjoy yourself with Temptation, and I encourage you to endeavour into this with a full embrace. We always want to love a story, and although I wish I had enjoyed it more than I did, Temptation didn't quite have that satisfying result in addition to the satisfying payoff I was hoping for, even as it did occupy qualities I love in a fictional relationship. I may not have loved it, but I did like it, and my proverbial door is always open for Jenna Hartley romance, and that will not reorient!
Content Warning/Listing: the heroine's mother has cancer and is presently undergoing cancer treatment. Mentions the past death of parents via plane crash. Sex scenes (some BDSM). Older man/younger woman romance. Initial condom use, after a while the couple forgo protection (the heroine is on birthday control from what we're told).
“You can ride with me if you’d prefer,” Knox said. Jude furrowed his brow. “Why would she ride with you? You’re her boss. And my dad. That’s just…” He shuddered. “Weird.” If you think that’s weird, just wait, I thought. Because I was doing a hell of a lot more than riding with his dad on a Jet Ski. I was riding him.
Tropes: Age gap Ex's dad Billionaire hero
Plot: Kendall was a house sitter of a very rich man and the rich man was anonymous till he wasn't. The house was her ex's father. In comes the father and they realise that they click and fuck and fall in love.
“And what if I say no?” “Do you want another orgasm?” She narrowed her eyes at me. “You play dirty, Crawford.” “No, Kendall.” I took her chin in my hand. “I play to win.” I adjusted myself and headed for the door. “And I’ll be waiting for you.
The book was so SO fast paced it bothered me. One chapter they're meeting, they lust over each other in the same chapter. By the next chapter they're fucking. By the next they love each other. EVERYTHING was so fast paced.
The only scene i was frothing in the mouth for was the scene where Knox is fucking Kendall and her phone rings and it's her ex (his son) and she talks to him on the phone while he fucks her. 🧎♀️

I really couldn't wait to read this but for me, meh....didn't capture me. I personally felt it didn't;t live up to my expectations...I do enjoy this author a lot so maybe this time around, it just wasn't a hit for me but will still read more by her:)
This story was just meh for me. It didn’t grab me and the chemistry didn’t really feel compelling. I didn’t connect with Kendall nor Knox so it was hard to root for their relationship. I didn’t like jude either as he felt like just a friend too.
this was my first time reading anything by jenna hartley and oh my gosh i had the best time. this book was so good, i love myself an older man and Knox Crawford was *chef’s kiss*
kendall was well on her way to working at her dream job, but life had a way to change her plans. she’s now trying to find out what’s next and what path is right for her. kendall never would’ve imagined that taking a certain job would have her working for her ex’s father, a man who she’s always felt a little something for.

temptation was a sizzling forbidden age gap romance with all the feels. i adored kendall and knox and the journey they took at finding happiness.

Until her house sitting job brings her face to face with Knox, her ex-boyfriend's father, who's very much a Silver Fox giving Daddy vibes.
She might be my son’s ex-girlfriend and the star of my fantasies, but she was now my employee.
First book I read by Jenna Hartley, and what a good one it was! The chemistry between Kendall and Knox is hooooooooot! These two have had attraction for each other for a long time, so finally getting to act on it is the icing on the cake.
“That’s it, mi cielo,” I said, using my fingers to pleasure her. “Give it to me. Give me everything.”
You guys, he calls her "mi cielo" (my heaven). Instant melt!
I was surprised by how the drama unraveled when it came to Knox, his son, and Kendall. At first, I wasn't sure what to think, but I think it was handled very well! It gave way for a good popcorn moment to ease the stress over it.
Overall, Temptation is a quick read that is spicy with some light dirty talk, and a romance that is entertaining to read about.
This review is of my own opinion, and I strongly encourage you to read this book if the tropes fit what you like to read to see if you like the book for yourself. With that being said, I will say that I did not really care for this book. I love age gap romances, but this is the first one I have read with an older FMC. By older Kendall is 27 and Knox is 47. I felt like I was missing parts of the story a little bit. It would present day, and then all of a sudden, it would be 2 or 3 weeks later. Where did that time go, and how did we get there. I felt that there should have been more angst, banter, spice, or something. I can't really pinpoint what it was missing, but the entire time I was reading this, it just felt like something was missing from this story.
The first part of the book was okay. I liked that we got to see how much Kendall and Knox really have been interested in each other secretly. At the halfway mark, I'm not sure about this book. I normally love the ex-boyfriend dad Trope, but for some reason, I had a really hard time getting into this on so far. I don't find myself saying give me more but rather when will it end. I think it's because at the halfway mark, you can tell where the story is going and how it's going to end. About 85% of the way that dreaded 3rd act break up happens. While I like the writing, I don't like the writing at the same time. There is just something about it that is keeping from really getting into it. I liked how thoughtful Knox was of Kendall. He was attentive to her and what she needed. I like that Kendall was a little older than most FMC in an age gap romance. I liked how they came back together in the end. When I read, I want something to keep me drawn into the story and distracted from my real life. I kept finding myself putting this book down and not picking it back up, forcing myself to finish this so I could do my review.
I’d slept with two men who were related— first the son, and now his father. 🤷♀️
I want my own Knox. Definitely Zaddy Vibes!! He was so perfect loved him with Kendall he spoiled her, liked the storyline and angst. In my opinion I felt like it might have dragged a bit. But other than that it was good.

Oh, how I loved Temptation - it's such a swoony forbidden romance. Knox and Kendall's story kept me hooked from the first page to the last. Five fabulous stars!
Kendall broke up with her boyfriend when she plans to move away. Her mom is diagnosed with cancer, so she stays in town to be with and help take care of her mom. Kendall is not interested in getting back together with her ex, so she doesn’t feel the need to reach out and let him know that she is actually not moving.
In order to be there for her mom whenever she needs it, Kendall needs a flexible job. She ends up taking a house sitting job at a mansion that is having construction done on it, and she is there to let in the construction workers and decorator, etcetera. The owner of the house scares her one night when he comes into the house. Turns out it is her ex boyfriend’s dad, Knox. He had just bought this house and was staying at a hotel while it is renovated.
He loves having her close, and comes up with reasons why he needs her to continue house sitting. When it comes to a point where it is clear she isn’t needed anymore, they start a romance since he is no longer her employer. They have had a flirtation and lots of chemistry up to this point, but decide to finally act on it. He had always been into her, but wasn’t sure she would ever feel the same since she was dating his son.
“You might have been his. But I saw you first. I wanted you first.”
Knox offers Kendall a different job working with the soccer team he owns. She tries to decline since they have now been physical together, but they can’t stay away. Knox is such a swoony older billionaire. I adored him and their romance!
5 stars Thank you to Jenna Hartley for the review copy.
OMG, I didn’t think I would enjoy this as much as I did! I neglected housework and felt resentment when life took me away from this book! Knox is perfection. He wanted Kendall as soon as he first laid eyes on her. Unfortunately…his son got to her first and he backed off…but after they broke up, date brought these two back together and let me tell you then tension and sexual chemistry was off the charts! I was chanting ‘just do itttt!’ the whole time. And when did got together, phew! Make sure you have a fan handy…😅 And Knox…he just never wavered, so sure of his love for Kendall. And he showed her in so many ways that she was it for him. Super caring, so swoony! Sigh! The whole book I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the other shoe to drop…how was Knox’ son going to react? And when it exploded it almost felt as a relief 🙈 I couldn’t put this book down!
Safety: No OW OM: H’s son is h’s ex, at some point he says he wants her back…making for all kind of awkward situations 😅 h was all in with H though. No cheating Separation (2-3 months) / third act break up Deals with cancer (including hospitalization and treatment) of h’s mother.
this could’ve been so much better if it had more CONTENT. every other chapter was “…a few weeks had passed” like what happened during those weeks?! so frustrating
Temptation is one of my favorite books by Jenna Hartley! This ex’s dad, close proximity, age gap, forbidden sports romance was all sorts of hotness!
I love Knox and Kendall! Their chemistry was explosive and these two were perfect for each other! I could not get enough of them! Knox had stolen my heart from the beginning, but seeing his protectiveness for Kendall was the cherry on top!
This was a fantastic book I had a difficult time putting down!
Temptation by Jenna Hartley was my first book by this author and I'm truly happy I discovered her as a new to me author for RARE London (even though she's not attending anymore).
I had so much fun reading this ex's dad, age-gap, billionaire romance with the forced proximity vibe. Knox and Kendall had fantastic chemistry which poured out of the pages.
I'm ready to dive into the next book of this series!
TEMPTATION by Jenna Hartley is the story of Kendall and Knox. Kendall had decided to break up with her boyfriend because she had plans to leave town. But then her mother got sick and so she stayed. Kendall ended up taking a house sitting job to help with income while helping her mom. This is where she meets Knox who owns the house and also later she find out is her ex-boyfriends father. I enjoyed this book and I hope to read more from this author.
I love a good exs dad story! Especially when the dad treats the girl the way she should be treated! Another thing about me is that I’ll always love a guy named Knox and I love when the mmc spoils the fmc!
I do wish there was more relationship building BUT the spice was amazing!
If you’re looking for a spicy, taboo romance this is for you!
I have always been a huge fan of the exes dad trope and was excited about this book when I first heard about it.
Temptation definitely did not disappoint. I absolutely loved Knox and thought he was the perfect book boyfriend. He was dirty, yet incredibly sweet. How he cared for Kendall was swoon worthy and I instantly fell in love.
I loved the chemistry between the characters, the drama with his son, and just the dilemmas the two of them had to deal with together to get to that happy place.
Definitely recommend this book. It's got the right amount of spice, and the writing is exceptionally well done.
This was quite a fun read. The chemistry was decent and the book overall was hot. I liked the romance and how much Knox wanted to take care of Kendall. I actually found this surprisingly gentle; there is conflict but the romance felt quite straightforward and sweet to me. It had some steamy moments as well.
The wider plot wasn’t that interesting to me and I felt like it fizzled out a little bit. I liked how the conflict with Jude, Knox’s son, was handled in the end, though. Overall it was an easy read and I would read something by this author again.
Content Notes: Ex’s dad / son’s ex, forbidden, workplace, boss/employee, forced proximity, age gap.
3 ⭐️ i feel like i lost brain cells reading this. was it mind-numbing? yes. was it entertaining? mildly. did i have to picture mark sloan so I wouldn’t just think the guy was old? yes
and oh god why was the first time he said i love you after she threw up multiple times. this book was neither here nor there, I won’t think about it, I’ll probably forget it but it was kinda mildly entertaining for a minute there. when things you usually find cute and endearing in a book give you the ick, you just know the book isn’t for you.
“You might have been his,” he said, his eyes intent on mine. “But I saw you first. I wanted you first.”
I haven’t read many ex’s dad stories, but in the ones I have, the relationship between the FMC and son was bad or toxic, so there’s not particularly as much real “angst” about her getting together with the dad, really just the forbiddenness. This wasn’t that.
Kendall dated Jude seriously but broke up because she was taking a job far away and both decided the relationship wasn’t deep enough to withstand the distance so they broke up. However, her mother’s cancer diagnosis changed her plans, but Kendall didn’t want to rekindle the relationship. In the back of her mind she’d always been attracted to Knox, Jude’s dad, and we learn the attracted was more than mutual. Knox had harbored a desire for Kendall since he first saw her, before he realized who she was so when he suddenly find she’s single and working for him, it hard to keep his feeling at bay, and boy are they strong. The yearning we hear in his inner thoughts was so good.
I think the plot works but I don’t think I necessarily felt the connection between Knox and Kendall beyond the obvious lust, although I did like Kendall more as the book went on, which for me is a positive (FMCs make or break a book for me)
The tiptoeing around Jude while they were exploring their relationship made sense because it was clear that Jude still had a thing for Kendall and that Knox’s relationship with Jude would undoubtedly be affected once he found out. There was A-LOT at risk. But they did ultimately did determine it was worth it and had plans to break the news, but of course they didn’t get to reveal it on their own terms.
Aside from the conflict over how Jude’s feelings would impact them, the age gap element was also a factor. They were at different stages in life and had to face some real decisions about what they could and couldn’t sacrifice, without losing a part of themselves. It was so hard, but I think the third act break was the right call given the circumstances💔
I really liked how the rift in Knox’s relationship with Jude was approached and mended and I really liked the ending. I had a feeling it would play out the way it did, and it was really romantic and sweet 🫶
Knox & Kendall were honestly a great match. I loved how Jenna wrote it that they were end game from the start. The book HAS GOOD bones there are some crucial parts that I felt we as readers could’ve had to solidify their relationship apart from the sex.
Kendall is Knox’s sons ex! Phew! That trope never get old, because who doesn’t love a seasoned partner with experience! This has some fun tropes:
Age gap Sneaking around ex’s father! Wealth difference Wine/dining Billionaire
Can I please find a daddy who will give me a Land Rover 😜!
I love how much affect Kendall has on Know & their banter back and forth.
“She narrowed her eyes at me. “You play dirty, Crawford.” “No, Kendall.” I took her chin in my hand. “I play to win.” I adjusted myself and headed for the door. “And I’ll be waiting for you.” She muttered something under her breath that sounded a lot like, “Cocky bastard,” but I merely smiled…”
Hands down the best quote he really played to win!
Kendall has some major decisions to make if they have what it takes, and Knox might need to reframe his thinking! Get ready for a billionaire romance that will whisk you in all the feels.
I adore a good age gap and forbidden romance, and this book had all of that in spades!! You can always count on this author for an amazing romance, but this is definitely one of my favorites of hers!
Here we have Kendall, who's life is not turning out quite the way she imagined it. She's dealing with her mother's illness, and the financial and emotional stress that that comes with. When she gets an unexpected job offer, and much to her mothers encouragement, realizes that this could be exactly what she needs.. until she realizes that the house sitting she was originally hired to do, is owned by no other than her ex boyfriends father -- and the one man she can't get out of her head.
Knox is hands down one of the best book daddies-- I mean boyfriends -- ever. He's got a filthy mouth, loves so big and is so intune with his emotions, and basically, he saw Kendall first and he needs to have her. Plus the more time they spend around one another, the more they both fall for each other. And they just had such a big, beautiful, respectful love that we all yearn for. JH truly outdid herself with this one!
If you're in the mood for a light (ish) age gap romance with all the feels, this is definitely for you!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **
This was my first Jenna Hartley book but it will not be my last. I love a good age gap taboo romance and Temptation did not disappoint. There were so many beautiful moments that I had a hard time putting it down.
Kendall is such a lovable person. She’s kind and caring. Her love for others is amazing. When she finds out her mom has cancer she turns down her job opportunity and stays behind to help out. She agrees to take a live in house sitting position to help make ends meet. But things take a turn when she finds out the owner of the house is none other than her Ex’s dad who she’s always had feelings for.
Knox is the owner of a Soccer team. He’s a billionaire but also has a kind and generous heart. He’s the ultimate book boyfriend. He has always had feelings for Kendall even when she was dating his son. When he comes home one night he comes face to face with the woman who has maintained his every thought.
The more they work together the more they realize that these feelings won’t go away. What starts out as just one night to relieve the tension turns into something more. This was such an amazing read. I loved Knox and Kendall’s relationship from the get go. They truly bring out the best in each other. The tension between them was everything. It had me so hooked that I was constantly gritting my teeth.
Thank you so much Jenna and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for sending me an Arc.
