The setting sun cast an orange haze over the dusty town as Sheriff River stepped out of his office, a cigarillo clenched between his teeth. Inside sat Alistair Monk—captured, infamous, and infuriatingly silent. Somewhere out there, Monk’s gang held banker Maxwell Graham hostage. And time was slipping away.
To complicate things further, April Winters, the new saloon owner, had just hired the Crane boys as her enforcers—brash and unpredictable men River didn’t trust one bit.
The townsfolk praised River for keeping order, but when it came to forming a posse to rescue one of their own, not a single soul stepped forward—save for the town drunk and the banker’s determined daughter. It wasn’t enough.
To save the hostage, River would have to ride out—and that meant calling in favors from men he’d rather leave in the past. With enemies lurking in the hills and trust in short supply, River has one shot to stop the gang before the banker pays with his life.
As the trail leads deeper into outlaw country, River must weigh justice against vengeance.
