Harley quality varies throughout their sprawling catalogue, but one thing is certain: boring is the absolute worst thing any HQN could write on their “Hello, My Name Is” sticker. 🙈🫣 I’ve read several Ranstroms with varied results, but never have I been legit bored. I guess there’s a first time for everything. *shrug* Not even a Sarah heroine could save this one—the various spy/rescue shenanigans were dull as dirt, & the overall story lacked any oomph or suspense.

This book was okay. I enjoyed this more in theory, but something just felt "off" idk.

Di questo libro mi è piaciuto tutto: trama, personaggi e scrittura. I protagonisti principali fantastici, soprattutto Sarah una vera forza della natura. Letto tutto in un fiato

Saving Sarah by Gail Ranstrom
Lady Sarah Hunter, aka Sadie Hunt, has a dark secret that only her closest woman friends know about. She fears if she tells her family that they will try to make things right and by doing so get injured, killed, or sent away. She and her friends of the Wednesday League, including Lady Annica, are considered bluestockings as they champion woman’s causes. They don’t like the injustices that are brought upon women just because they are considered the weaker sex and the hold that their male family members and/or husbands have over them due to the way the laws are written.
Ethan Travis, aka “The Demon of Alsatia”, was wrongly believed to have been the cause of massive losses of life in Algeria during the war and was to be tried for treason but without any evidence against him, the Foreign Office was able to quiet things down and let the rumors die. Even so, Ethan is not usually seen in the normal Ton circle, but keeps his true “business” under wraps along the wharf and feeds the rumors about the “Demon of Alsatia” as it helps him in his endeavors.
In the course of each of them seeing that their duty is exercised, they chance to meet in the wee hours of the morning on the deserted streets, each with the quarry so close yet so far. Little do they know that their lives will become intertwined and each dependent on the other, without fully realizing it.
This was a rich story full of personal insights into the two main characters and a glimpse into some of the “seedier sides of life” in 1800’s Europe. This was a wonderfully written historical romance with a touch of mystery, always such a good combination. Hope you find a chance to enjoy it, as I did.

E' in assoluto il mio preferito della prima serie !!!! Ethan m' ha letteralmente conquistata per la sua devozione a Sarah, che raggiunge il suo massimo quando non la incolpa di quel che l' è successo e l' aiuta a superare la paura dell' intimità; e quando cade preda della gelosia... è di una tenerezza che t' invoglia a consolarlo. Sarah - da parte sua - si dimostra degna di tale amore nel difenderlo dal fratello, nel complimentarlo davanti alle sue amiche, ma soprattutto nel mostrare una gelosia pari a quella di Ethan !!! Il loro amore cresce sempre di più nei romanzi successivi, facendoli risultare una delle coppie più romantiche mai apparse in un romance !!!!

Reread in December 2023. Still such a good book, I'll go four and a half stars this time.
