Seraphine Thomas #2

Allure of the Wolf

Rate this book
Seraphine Thomas, division chief of the FBI and newly made rare siren wolf lycanthrope, makes it through her very first lunar cycle, but that isn’t the only thing on her agenda. To get the agents at MNSTR up and running to her standards, Sera encounters an uphill battle against FBI protocols and personnel she used to respect.

Even as everything starts to work out in her favor, Sera discovers she has way more to learn about being a wolf, embracing her siren, and dealing with her men than she ever thought possible. Add in trying to find a murderer before more bodies show up in downtown Chicago, and she’s got an overflowing plate.

But apparently life wanted to add extras and when she finds out more hideous traditions in the pack, Sera can’t ignore her moral code, no matter who or what she is now. Fighting for the people who need it leaves one clear path everyone sees for Sera but her. Oh, she’s Alpha enough to take over… But will she still be the Sera Thomas she knows if she does?

3-3.5 stars. While I really love the personality of the heroine, after reading several different books by this author I'm beginning to realize really quickly that this author has a type. FMC's believe in truth, fairness, and justice to a fault. The FMC also spends a huge amount of time explaining "why." Why she feels this way, why she did what she did, why she doesn't want this or that. This was great for me in the beginning but after a while I felt like I already knew the FMC so well that the explanations weren't necessary for me in particular. I love Seraphine, I really do, but I'm so ready for her to get a hold of herself. She spends so much of this book fighting her destiny, fighting whats coming, and whining about the position she has been put in.. Eventually I just wanted to hop into the book and buy her a one way ticket somewhere else so we could get someone in here who wants to take control.

Book 2 finds Seraphine trying even more to integrate MNSTR and FBI protocols and procedures. Trying to finally get her people the training they need to protect the city. We also get a surprise when Seraphine learns to combine her entities in order to strengthen herself even further. I mean we knew she was a Bad A but now we have seen her in actual action. The situation with the Chicago Alpha has finally come to a head as Seraphine discovers how he has been "strengthening" his pack all this time and the time has come for someone to put a stop to it. Unfortunately for Seraphine she has been pushed into the corner to take care of business... before its too late.

I do find that I'm quickly tiring of Seraphine's man problems.. I often feel like RH style relationships unbelievable not for the fact that its a RH, or jealousy issues, or any of the most obvious reason, but because what girl in their right mind wants to put up with all those dudes.. I mean really. Seraphine and her dudes prove my point even further in this story as she has to clean up one mess after another because of her relationships. We need a strong Male who can be everything Seraphine actually needs to come in and keep all her dudes in freaking line so we can get on with her story.. I'm hoping in the next book we find someone to manage this.

This author has done an excellent job creating super depth-full characters and a really intense and in depth story. Its a little slow progressing, but I'm beginning to see really quickly that the author likes to take her time and writes in an episodic like fashion, slowly continuing the series over super long series of books. Looking forward to what this series brings as I continue it.

Sera really needs a chill pill. Blames work for her poor attitude. Blames other for her poor choices. It doesn’t seem like she ever stops to evaluate that maybe the problem is really her.

Plus the fighting scene was childish but I get why she wasn’t too happy. I felt bad for Tristan. Sera never sat down and discuss how the relationship is going to work. So instead we see Sera hooking up with Noah and that suppose to be okay? That’s considered cheating...

I did enjoy the first book. Didn’t think Sera attitude was terrible just her Siren side.

It's not that the book was bad or written poorly, I just don't think this is for me. I like a book where there's loyalty and not people cheating on each other. I was becoming disappointed with where this was heading so I started reading reviews for the next books and it seems like all her guys betray her and cheat on her. It's just not what I'm looking for in a series. ☮️ Out :)

Good

I enjoyed this one so much more than book 1. I feel like I finally connected to Sera, the FMC. She can be a bit over the top but considering her backstory and what she is dealing with, it made sense. There are a lot of characters which I like but I did have trouble keeping them all straight. Overall, this was a good read.

Review of the Seraphine Thomas Series by Erin Flynn (Books 1–18)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Overall)

I’ve officially read all 18 books in the Seraphine Thomas series - yes, all of them - so you don’t have to (but maybe you’ll want to). I’m a longtime fan of Erin Flynn’s writing. Her stories are creative, emotionally rich, and often addictive. There's always at least one character per series you end up rooting for, and her talent for immersive world-building is undeniable.

That said, my experience with this series has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Let’s break it down honestly - but respectfully.

🔥 The Positives:
Compelling Worldbuilding: The supernatural FBI + polyamorous twist is unlike most in the genre. Think Forever meets Castle with a Vampire Diaries vibe.

Long-Term Character Arcs: The series spans a wide timeline and shows dedication to character growth (even if not always in a direction I enjoyed).

Addictive Early Books: Books 1–7 had me hooked. They had humor, high-stakes emotional drama, and solid pacing. These earned a solid 3.5/5 stars from me.

😬 Mixed Feelings & Constructive Critique:
1. Tone and Authorial Voice
While the author’s writing style is generally engaging, I personally found some of the commentary in the closing author’s notes and certain narrative choices to feel more personal or opinionated than expected in fiction. I completely understand the need to address issues like piracy, but I believe there might be more neutral or inclusive ways to communicate those messages.

2. Relationship Complexity vs. Clarity
This isn’t a typical “Why Choose” or Reverse Harem setup. It’s a deeply layered polyandrous dynamic - messy, intricate, and sometimes emotionally chaotic. If you're looking for straightforward bonding arcs, be prepared: the relationship development gets incredibly convoluted. Personally, I found the shifting dynamics between mates, sirened partners, consorts, and friends-with-benefits confusing as the series progressed. A glossary or relationship map might be helpful in future installments.

3. Character Fatigue
By Book 18, I found myself struggling to connect with many of the characters - especially the main character, Sera. She starts off as a resilient, sharp, and likable FMC, but over time, her decisions and relationship management felt inconsistent or frustrating. The push-pull dynamic in her personal life, paired with very little progress in her supernatural education even 18 books in, made it difficult for me to continue rooting for her.

Many love interests were introduced with big emotional weight, only to fade into the background or disappear altogether. Some characters who were well-developed and emotionally resonant (like Dain or Tristan) seemed to get less closure or fair treatment than others who felt more peripheral. In contrast, some relationships dragged on without significant development or payoff.

4. Pacing & Structure
Books 8–18 dropped to a 2.5/5 rating for me. The pacing slowed, and more focus seemed to shift toward commentary and expanding the cast rather than continuing the central storyline. Political and social themes started to feel more prominent than the core plot, which I found distracting from the fictional narrative I was invested in.

🧍‍♀️Sera Thomas (FMC):
Early-series Sera was fantastic: witty, brave, emotionally complex, and vulnerable. I loved her journey through the early books. But as the series continued, her indecision, emotional volatility, and seeming lack of introspection made it harder to sympathize with her. She often reacted rather than reflected, and by Book 18, she felt less like a hero and more like a character stuck in loops.

💔 On the MMCs:
Too many to list fully, but here are some key points:

Tristan: Felt unfairly treated by both the narrative and Sera. He brought a lot to the story emotionally and deserved more.

Dain: A standout for me. Loyal, strong, and emotionally available. Frustratingly underappreciated by Sera.

Brian, Riley, Hagan/Reagan: Relationships with these characters didn’t feel satisfying or necessary by the end.

Noah, Axel, Eugene, Jason: Struggled to leave a lasting impression. Some started strong but faded, others never quite clicked.

Carter: Felt like his storyline was mishandled. A simple conversation would have solved a lot.

Ari, Virgil, Lucca, etc.: Either forgotten or sidelined. At 18 books in, I’m struggling to remember who’s still important and who isn’t.

⚠️ Final Thoughts:
This series started with a bang but has become increasingly complex - sometimes at the expense of clarity, pacing, and emotional payoff. I’d still recommend it to readers who enjoy dark paranormal romance with poly themes, complex emotions, and an ongoing world that spans dozens of characters.

But for me, the series may have reached its natural peak. I’m unsure whether I’ll continue with future books unless there’s a notable shift in focus and tone. Still, Erin Flynn’s creativity and dedication to her characters is commendable, and I hope future installments bring some much-needed resolution to long-standing arcs.

TL;DR:
Started strong with a bold and complex heroine in a unique supernatural world. Became bloated with characters and unresolved plot threads. A frustrating but ambitious series worth reading - if you have patience.

4 Learned To Ride Dragons Instead Of Bicycles Stars

Allure Of The Wolf is the second book in the Seraphine Thomas series by Erin R. Flynn.

Holy crap! I did not expect that Engle was that depraved. He was very obviously a misogynistic prick, but I never imagined that he was gang-raping every seventeen or eighteen year-old girl in his pack once they had their first shift, as some form of induction. Then to force them to mate to their abusers, to officially be married to such sad representations of the worst of society to live that terror every day. Wow, this author went there. And he did so much more, too. I cannot believe the author managed a believable way for everyone who was responsible outside of the pack to police and recognize this behavior to cop out, and yet feel realistic.

Then there's the shark shifter. I expected that even less.... There is so much change that Sera has to implement. Not even considering making day-to-day life more copacetic between humanity and supernaturals, there's law enforcements first response to any crime or suspected crime committed by the non-human citizens. I fully expect her to have to go and kick some ass within the Council at some point. Because their response is easily able to be twisted later, I can already see something horrible happening now....

I loved the emotional range for our MC within this book. She seemed far more capable and realistic in this book, compared to the previous. Her relationships approved across the board. She came to terms with the changes in her life, and has started on a long journey to accepting herself.

I'm excited to see what the future holds for the new Alpha of the Chicago Pack, and the MNSTR branch of the FBI.

I hate it when writers contradict themselves in stories. I’m not one for cheaters and since the FMC is supposedly someone who has high morals and wants to do the right thing (even though she is a siren), it is in my opinion unlikely that she would ever cheat. Not only did she cheat, but she handled it the wrong way with the man she cares about.
The big contradiction is that sirens are very possessive. She did not show this in this book AT ALL. She let one of her “minions” taunt her with a female, and I understand she was letting him hurt her back. BUT Riley manipulated her in the worst way possible and afterwards immediately cheated on her and she just let it go??? Where is the possessiveness in this story??? I mean hell, even I would be more possessive and I’m just human. It feels as if the author totally changed the personality of the MC in this story because she just totally stoped being a kick ass siren bitch and let the men walk all over her. I really don’t get what Riley is doing in this story. Someone please just kill this useless coward. I would totally switch him for the 2 hot marines. Okay. Thank you.

Lots going on here

So much is going on here. I honestly don’t always understand why Sera is getting mad, luckily she explains it for the read usually. But sometimes she doesn’t and it makes it difficult to understand her motivations. Overall there was a boatload of things going on that I am sure I can miss any plot holes because theres just so much. We didn’t even resolve all the issues with the book either but we’ll end right after the case. It’s surprising that there wasn’t more toward the end after we find out who and why the shark shifter did what they did. But it ended right after that. I think that’s lame I also think it’s incredibly lame that they found the shark shifter by SMELLING them but yet prior in the investigative side they couldn’t find anything. I think they mentioned smell?? Wouldn’t Sera have been able to find the person or have mentioned knowing their scent?

The story is decent, but it needs a bit more, though I’m not sure what. A bit more less obvious ways for having cases maybe? Idk. I do plan to read the next one though.

Just as with the Artemis series, this review is for all 13 if the Seraphina Thomas series. This series gets a four while Artemis only got a three for a few reasons. First I appreciate that the FMC is 28 and not 18. Especially as Flynn tends to give her heroines more than any three people could handle, I appreciate that the characters are a bit older and hand more life experience. Secondly Seraphina tackles multiple faults in society. I love a good feminist rant but the Artemis books have so many they got a little repetitive. This series has patriotism, do you damn job, bigotry, do the right thing because it's the right thing, people should be free, the laws apply to everyone, and a heaping dose of feminism. Much better. Also this series does a better job of wrapping up each book. However, because all 13 books are available in Kindle Unlimited, it's very easy end one and pick up the next and if you do that (like I did) you might find it is still a lot of speechifying and you might want to give yourself a bit of a breather.
WARNING There is a half length book called Woman In Demand that takes place between books 12 & 13. Not sure why but you miss some important stuff if you skip it, so don't miss out!

I'm really not a fan of how Seraphine picked up new men to sleep with in this book. Sure, some of it was manipulated, but adding a

The underlying detective mystery was also very disjoint to Seraphine's overall character development. I was more interested in reading about how she was dealing with the wolf Alpha, her ex-lover ex-FBI department head, and other people in her close-knit group rather than some miscellaneous shifter murder they were trying to solve.

Similar to the previous book, I'm still interested in the FMC to see how she further develops her career and shifter and personal relationships to continue with the next book.

“Allure of the Wolf” has a decent plot which, unfortunately, is buried under mountains of musing, plotting, politics and sex.
In theory the main plot should be about a shark shifter who is killing people, but, after a brief moment in the sun, it is abandoned until the end of the book and then given a couple of pages.
Instead there are three main elements in the story:- Seraphine's attempt to fit into her new world, her relationship with the FBI, and the increasing problems with the local werewolf pack.
Structurally the book is all over the place (just like Seraphine a lot of the time) and is exceptionally repetitious in terms of her feelings and thoughts.

Complications

There is a lot going on that she doesn't know or realize. I feel sorry for the position she is in. However she is an FBI agent and needs to man up because she is not as black and white. Many of the paranormal are telling her there is a problem and she just ignores it because she doesn't want to cross any lines of be in charge. I call on that because at some point we all need to man up

Messed up

That ending was a sad one. Not a cliffhanger, but more because of the circumstances. As an FBI worker it’s hard to be everything people expect you to be and everywhere at once. Glad to see a very strong FMC that’s able to handle things even though she didn’t want the job to begin with. This book continues on with more cases the team worked on and with some heated moments. Still fast paced and hard to put down.

Sera as a wolf..

I love a strong woman, and regardless of the drama and craziness, Sera is that.
I'm excited to read more of her adventures as a new wolf and how she will juggle the paranormal world with life as an FBI agent.
I like how the author has many subplots happening, I just wish she would elaborate and focus more on the cases. It seems like this slow build up, to boom case solved. There's no ongoing progress, which makes the crimes seem unimportant.

Fantastic

I don't usually leave reviews on books, even9 ones I enjoy immensely. I read so fast that I'm looking for my next book. However, I've now read all of the Artemis University books and the Tantalising Trilogies books since May.

I love Erin's writing and books. I can not put them down. My favourite part is she has so many series that are more than 4/5 books.

So please, if you are thinking of reading any of her books. Do it, you won't regret it.

Absolutely AWESOME Again 😁

This series is a completely different story but so very well written 😃. When you grow up in foster care and find out that nobody is ever going to want you, it makes you not know how to connect 😢. So she's FBI, but she ends up getting hurt on the job, becoming a wolf shifter, then finding out she's more 🤔. Thanks Erin, this story is so addictive and I can't wait to read more 🤓.

Seraphine Thomas Vol. 2

This vol was soo Anita Blake coded. It remind me of so many trops from the Anita series. At first the vol was really interesting the setup was well placed but mid way through author started introducing the politics which was tad bit boring. The epilogue was also a let down.

Urban fantasy done right

I adore long series’ of books, especially when they can hold attention, tell an individual story yet still somehow push forward an over arcing plot. Seraphine’s is like that and I am enjoying the progress so far.

I feel like this is an Artemis copy, with a different set up. I can't take more drama and men that are good, then bad, then good. And the whole "this is too much, I am going to lose it" every other chapter.
