When Lenny awakes in a strange room strapped to a table he thinks his luck can’t get any worse. He couldn’t be more wrong.
After surviving a nuclear attack, an alien invasion and legions of crazed marauders Lenny has become a human Guinea Pig. There’s something unique about him and his captors won’t stop until they figure it out, even if he dies in the process.
The clock is ticking and Lenny has a world that needs saving. With friends missing in action and his own life in jeopardy he’s gonna need a miracle if he hopes to see another day.
The date was October 31, 1979. The air was cool and a light fog blew in from the gulf, cloaking the Tampa area in an ominous, tight-fitting tunic. The annual Halloween festivities had just begun and a night of mischievous tomfoolery was afoot.
Scandalous and nefarious characters took flight. Doorbells were rung and ill-boding tricks were played regardless of the treats given. This was the dark reality of the bustling Florida metropolitan.
To the north, Grateful Dead crooned the night's theme music at the Nassau Coliseum. Within earshot of the concert, witnesses stated a UFO hovered over the grounds for thirty minutes before vanishing.
At the same time the Cromarty's were busy hosting their notorious Halloween party at 112 Ocean Ave., better known as the Amityville Horror House. Screams and cries for help were reported throughout the night, punctuated with the disappearance of the family next door. They were never heard from again.
Unknowingly altering the course of history, Kurt Vonnegut released "Jailbird" the same week KISS gained infamy on The Tomorrow Show. The aftermath of this collision would not be felt for decades until the emergence of Justin Bieber.
After a night filled with mayhem and destruction and the deaths of several prominent entertainers, politicians and a notorious bank robber, the Federal government was forced to loan $1.5 billion dollars to Chrysler. This spurred a series of violent protests, resulting in the Brunah Agate oil spill. Over 10.7 million gallons of oil were dumped into the Galveston Bay. This became the worst oil spill disaster in U.S. history.
A few hours later on November 1, 1979, Rashad Freeman was born. Feel free to draw your own conclusions.
I had started to read this series about three to four weeks ago and I finally got the funds to get the other two books 3 and 4 and had to start from book 1 again because the series is so good. They have their hands full with these type of aliens and Mr Freeman writes it in a way that will keep you turning pages with plenty of action. Don't worry if you get the books you will not have to start from the beginning every time you get another one in the series because they start up in the next book in a way you know where you are in the series. I did it because I loved it so far and plus I had a brain injury awhile age and wanted to make sure that I didn't forget anything .( Kind of like I do when my wife tells me to get some work around the outside of the house done.) I mean come on , I'm reading. Try pulling that one off. Great series lots of military talk that anyone can understand and just fun to read altogether. Nice job Mr Freeman.
I love this series!! I read through these books like wildfire and am once again waiting for the next book in a favorite series. This is definitely another of those 'that's a darn good read, will read again' stories. Lenny has been through it and back and just keeps on kicking butt! I'm really glad his sidekick is still with him at the end of this book.... was a huge 'YAY!!!' when he popped back up! I'm anxious to see what happens next! Several mind blowing surprises with characters batting for the other team that I had those WTH! moments. Come on Mr Freeman, write faster!
This is book 4, or 3, of the Doomsday Playbook series, depending on how the edition is labelled. If I hadn’t bought the whole series together, I would probably be giving up at this point as I found this one depressing, nonsensical, and riddled with typos and inconsistencies.
Lenny wakes up on the alien spaceship, where he is tortured and experimented on by the Aker, slimy tentacled creatures who insert themselves into human clones like armour, because they can’t survive the radioactivity in the air, even inside their own ship. They talk to each other in English and behave in surprisingly human ways, for an alien species. They carelessly leave powerful weapons lying around, so Lenny escapes, freeing Maddox, but discovers Rebecca has died so is forced to leave her behind. Luckily for them, the ship is hovering only jumping distance above the earth so they are able to get away, but then split up; Lenny is ready to give up in despair, while Maddox is rescued by Robert’s group of rebels, who have discovered there is something special about Lenny that makes him resistant to the aliens, and they must find him at all costs as he could be the key to the resistance.
This has now veered into more sci-fi than PA territory, a negative from my point of view. There is lots of action and some guns-ho new characters are introduced, mostly so they can be killed off again in gruesome ways as before. This could seriously do with some editing, for both language errors (it’s camaraderie not comeradrie, and eyes go glassy, not glossy, to name but two examples) and continuity mistakes (the night goes from pitch black to bright moonlight back to complete darkness, serious injuries disappear within hours...) Things go from bad to worse for poor Lenny, with the only good thing the return of his dog Rango (without explanation - I can’t remember what had happened to him a few books ago.)
On the plus side, these are short and there are apparently only two more so I will finish the series to see how it pans out.
I have read the Wasteland Chronicles series up to this point and have enjoyed it very much. Full of non-stop action, adventure, and mystery. But, it does seem to keep dragging on and I am ready for this story to come to a close. However, there are still two more books to go. I don't know that I can keep going. Nevertheless, it is a good series and I recommend it to people who like book series. However, I don't. And, I'm likely finished.
