In the trauma room, a man lies on a gurney, fragments of an assassin's bullet in his skull. He carries a secret that could save millions of lives. And if he dies, that secret dies with him.
From award-winning author Samuel Peralta comes Trauma Room, a flash fiction short story that is at once a thriller, a glimpse of a future dystopia, and a love story - all in 1000 words.
Trauma Room is one of a series of standalone stories about a labyrinthine world where time travel is just beginning to be realized, where pervasive surveillance by telepaths is a part of life, where non-human self-awareness has begun to make humanity face difficult questions about itself.
Samuel Peralta is a physicist and storyteller. He is most well-known in publishing as a poet, short story writer, and creator of the "Future Chronicles" anthologies, with over 20 bestselling titles to date.

*Very* quick read. This is one of those short stories that really needs to be expanded into a full-fledged novel. There is so much packed into this 1000-word story.
Wow! Talk about embroiled intensely in the story and then... Great job at grabbing the readers attention right off the bat! Can't wait for the next one.
Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
My Thoughts: I’ve pretty much been gobbling up all of Samuel Peralta’s short stories lately. So when he offered Trauma Room I jumped at the chance to read it, without actually reading the description (this is such a bad habit of mine).
In this case, it didn’t end up mattering. It’s a very short, short story (frustratingly short) and it was awesome! I don’t think I’d be able to stop myself from immediately buying it, if a full length novel comes out taking place in the same world as Trauma Room.
Trauma Room just gives you a taste and leaves you wanting so much more. It’s exciting to read about telepathy and when an author goes down their own unique path with it, you can’t help but get excited as a reader. I don’t know if it’s obvious, but it’s killing me that I don’t know more about this world or the characters in it.
If you’re already a fan of Samuel Peralta, then you’ll enjoy Trauma Room. If you’re new to this author, then Trauma Room would actually be a very exciting short story to start with. You’ve been warned though, that you’ll finish it wanting more. I truly hope the author comes out with more from Trauma Room.
Choices made, changes in decisions, disbelief turned to belief turned to questioning the beliefs made in moments of Trauma...
There's a saying I've heard people use - I may get it wrong but it goes something like this: "He found God in jail but now that he's out he's not so believing as he was when standing before the parole board."
While no one in this story stands before a parole board, the sentiments here-in reminded me of having heard those words spoken.
This books was a gift to me from the author. No request was made for a review but I am very pleased to have seen it in Goodreads to give the review and rating. I need to get over to Amazon and do the same there.
I would like to thank the author, Samuel Peralta, for giving me a copy of this short story to review. Trauma Room is an extremely short piece of fiction with a clear viewpoint and story. The author allows the reader to imagine the world beyond the book but, at the same time, provides a complete snapshot of a certain length of time. In my opinion, Samuel Peralta was very successful in conveying his characters and plot within the framework of short fiction. Although this might make for a very interesting full length novel, it would lessen the impact of the story itself. Although it was exceedingly quick to read, I am glad to have read Trauma Room.
I loved this book! Mr. Peralta's writing is just amazing. The story got me hooked with concept and the flow of writing. It just ended too quickly. It was on my phone and I was browsing through my library and stumbled upon the book. I was excited to read short story by Mr. Peralta as I thought it would be longer than the forewords form the Chronicles ( The dragon and Z Chronicles). I loved his writing when I read the forewords and have wanted to read his books. But now I'm going off to search the book related to this one and hopefully a novel.
A man lies dying, or maybe he's dead already. This is no ordinary man, though. The world needs something hidden deep inside his brain before it flickers out.
Don't read this story too quickly. It's short. You can take the time to linger and ponder several layers of meaning...and wonder what really happened at the end.
The story is good but I found it just too short for my liking. It has the ability to be so much more and I was left feeling like I had only gotten a sample rather than the full book.
I liked the style and the feel of the story. I might have loved it, had it been longer, but as it is, I found there wasn't enough for me to connect with. In other words I like the writing, but the story was a bit too short.
I was given the eBook version for free in exchange of honest review the truth is I choose to read this twice before doing my review. It is well developed and I loved it!
