The Reaper's Lost Love

Rate this book
Kieran, known across centuries as the Reaper, is cursed by immortality and decay, trapped in a cycle of death and rebirth, a weapon abandoned by the gods who forged him. His hands rot, his memories fray and he longs only for the peace of oblivion. But now those gods return, desperate to reclaim control. They offer Kieran one final task in exchange for the death he desires.

This final command propels him toward Seraphine, the woman in whose hands rests both his salvation and his ruin.

In this immersive, heartbreaking saga of sacrifice, memory, and redemption, nothing is safe, not love, not identity, not even death itself. The Vorathi is calling, and when the last page turns, who will remain?

I really stuggled with the story.. the first three chapters were great and then we got chapters with Rhen's POV.. Which in my opinion was unnecessary, they were to long and did not add anything to the story. And I struggled with that if Kierran and Seraphine are the main characters, why bring the third one, maybe the answer is in later chapters?.. Sorry, but after 200 pages I just DNFed the book...
In my opinion the jumping through time lines isn't helping either for the story...
This story could really have a huge potential, but it needs a lot of editing in my opinion!
Although this book wasn't for me, maybe others are going to enjoy it more!

Arc review: I want to thank the author for the opportunity to arc read this book, I applied on a whim and did not think I would be chosen. Now, the review. I really wanted to like this book and I think it has the ability to be a great book. However it was very hard to get into and the time jumps with the pov changes confused me. I never quite understood why we needed a rhen pov ( I don’t feel like it added anything to the story) I quit reading about halfway through and skipped to the end. I feel like the cliffhanger could have been done better and you could see it coming. Overall this book wasn’t for me but I hope someone enjoys it the way I wanted to.

It is a great book for people who like Complex plots! For me I enjoyed how heavy it was on the storyline and found it very refreshing. I do love the multiple point of views so beware it contains four different viewpoints! It gives you chance to know each character within this world.

In fact, this ARC alone made me realise just how much adore the way the author writes. Will definitely start supporting this author from now and onwards. Can’t wait to see what else they write in the future!

The introduction of the book had me on a chokehold, I could feel the intensity of it right from the beginning. I loved the way the author describes the scenes, the grimness, the sadness, the stench, the darkness, the dirt, the fresh and old blood, all so vividly described to a point where I am disgusted and want to vomit. That is how great the writing and storytelling is!

Kieran, the gods’ killing machine is someone to be loved, pitied and be annoyed at. The life he lives is lonely and just full of death. When you see Kieran, just know that death has arrived. I love his smart mouth. He does not take shit and is funny AF! He claims that he lives for alcohol, sex and coin but deep down he yearns for peace and companionship. A purpose other than being a tool the gods control or use as they please.

The Reaper meets Rhen, a handful of a man if you ask me. Always taunting and pushing the Reaper’s buttons. Rhen is exactly the kind of companion Kieran needs even though they butt heads all the time. Rhen is smart and calculative. And most things rather all things are always to his benefit. Rhen is a character that sets the story in motion. He manipulates and smokes his way through life. A character I have fallen in love with, I love his smugness and jokes, he makes the book light-hearted.

The introduction of Seraphine is like a breath of fresh air. She gets introduced to us at the right moment. Her story tugs at the corners of my heart. She is a character that I instantly fell in love with. Her softness and fragility are felt deeply. From the moment she is introduced I could feel the desperation in her threads and her need to survive, her need to escape her treacherous past, well parts of it that she could remember in this lifetime.

This book is full of layers and layers. Nothing about this book is predictable. Each chapter is full of intensity. It is beautifully written and captured. Nicole has grown a lot by introducing several characters in her book and the triple pov is the best thing ever! I am at a loss for words!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This book is for people who feel and see beyond the surface level, beyond the superficial. It is a book that explores pain, sadness, hope, desperation, recognition, belonging and love. I believe Nicole did an excellent job in portraying all those feelings.

Thank you, Nicole, for making me part of your ARC journey. I truly appreciate it and I miss the characters already.

“For a second, I believe I’ve been born again, born without the curse. Just a man. Just her.”

“She weighs nothing and everything.”

“You’re an echo that won’t stop ringing inside every hollow space in me. Like you’ve rewritten my heartbeat and carved yourself into my bones”

ARC Review:

I honestly have no idea where to begin with this review! Within the first few paragraphs I was hooked into the story simply because of Tsopo’s immersive writing style. She really brings the world to life with her words. At times I felt as if I was standing right there next to Rhen or Seraphine.

This story is told from 3 POVs with a 4th popping up near the end. Typically I do not choose to read stand-alone novels. I typically want to spend as much time inside a world as possible. The Reaper’s Lost Love was written perfectly. From start to finish, I felt as if my questions were answered. My confusion felt solved. Which is the most I can ask for when I know its only going to be one book! I’m happy I chose to apply for this ARC - it definitely changed my mind regarding picking up stand alone fantasy novels!

While the main character’s of the story are often labeled as the “scum” or “lower” types of people throughout this book - even seen as the “Villains” - there are deep themes of hope, dreams, love, and forgiveness. You may not realize everyone’s role in the story until the end, but everything ties together beautifully.

I would definitely recommend this to a friend! This book is perfect for romance readers who don’t expect a lot of spice. There are scenes of nudity, but no explicit sex scenes. Some fantasies could be seen as explicit, but would be considered “closed door.” Also great for anyone who likes to follow the POV of a Villain and see that they have a soft side just as much as the hero.

🗡 ARC Review – The Reaper’s Lost Love 🗡

4.2 stars
Tropes: immortal curses, he falls first, slow burn, found famile, moral grey, fate vs free will

It's complex dark fantasy about raper (let's be real I even pity him, cause immortality only sound fun but in reality it's highway to lose mind always keep reborning process) and his task from gods (no spoilers). That leads him to his way and that's how our story starts.
There were a lot of POVs and timelines bouncing around, and I didn’t fully click with it until about halfway through. Some of the descriptions felt a little too long for my taste (especially when I just wanted to get back to Kieran and Seraphine). And Rhen's POV confused me at first, though it all made more sense by the end.
But the moment I met Seraphine I was hooked again. Big vibes of Geralt and Yennefer and I love it.

Anyway, it's good slowburn complex dark fantasy. I wish it was a little shorter, cause I needed time to dive into story and I gonna read next book cause obv it can't be end of story

Kieran whom has been known throughout centuries as the Reaper. His curse one of immortality and suffering. He is trapped in this cycle of Death and Rebirth. When the gods re-emerge, to take back control. They offer Kieran a bargain! one he has waited for, for what has felt like eternity. Leaving his fate to a women called seraphine.
With multiple POVs, and was well written by the author. I was sucked into the world early on into the book and really had such high hopes for the story. Unfortunately as my reading went on, I found it hard to get into the story and became disinterested and started to feel it was more of a chore to read. However I can see the potential in the story and also can see why others have enjoyed The Reapers Lost Love. It just honestly turned out not my kind of book.

I usually don't like to DNF books, especially ones that I graciously received as an ARC. However, I unfortunately had to DNF the story. I mostly turned this way becuase I was confused of the plot. I dont think I aptly understood what the story was trying to tell for me. I do truly believe that this book will do well for others, it just ended up not being my cup of tea.

The book itself is very dark and and does address elements of sexual abuse, domestic violence, war violence, and religious-intolerance, which I find intriguing, but didn't work out for me in the end.

I am grateful to have been given the chance to read the book as an ARC, and I hope it does well for the audience in which it is intended for.

Be prepared for a very extensive and thoroughly complex story. After all the book started like this:

This is not a story about saving the world. It’s a story about what remains after the world was rewritten too many times. The characters aren’t heroes. They are narrative anomalies, breaks in the pattern, forgotten tools, discarded concepts trying to become real again.

Please make sure to read all of the trigger warnings before starting this book. What I love is that the characters are as complex as the overall story line. Be prepared to be taken on an emotional rollercoaster with all the trigger warnings but if you have your brain wrapped around that then you're going to thoroughly enjoy the story ... or maybe
I'm just a sucker for a twisted tail.

🔮e-ARC Review 🔮

Rating - 3.5/5

I was drawn in by the premise-reapers, tragic love, gods acting like villains-it had all the elements I usually enjoy. The atmosphere was rich, and some scenes really packed an emotional punch.

But the constant POV shifts pulled me out of the story more than once. I kept losing track of who was who, and it made it harder to connect with anyone fully. The pacing also dipped in places, making it feel longer than it needed to be.

It's a book with strong bones and powerful ideas, but the execution didn't always keep me hooked. Worth reading, just not an all-time favorite.

Thank you Nicole for giving me the opportunity to read this Arc.

The book was really good and had a plot that caught me right away. I like Nicole Tsopo's way of writing. There was a time when I didn't really follow along, but I got the answer shortly after.

Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your team. 🌺❤️

A complicated dark fantasy that had me on the edge of my seat throughout the story; The Reaper's Lost Love is a slow-burn romance with intriguing characters and wonderful writing with heavy themes. I highly recommend it to all in search of a dark romance with a hint of spice.

This book was complex and complicated. In the best way for me but maybe not just for casual readers. I loved the different povs and the wondering. Everytime I wondered or got confused the answer was fed to me. It felt like a journey, I haven’t felt that in a long time.

I applied for this on a whim after seeing the art and was a little worried about whether I’d enjoy it. But since I loved Nicole’s The Healer and the Protector, I had my fingers crossed for this one too.

The beginning was a bit tough to get into, and I seriously considered DNF’ing because I just wasn’t clicking with the story. I tried to push through, but the timelines and multiple POVs left me feeling too confused, and I skimmed through the whole book. interesting ending.

While it wasn’t the right fit for me, I truly believe others might enjoy it more—especially those who love complex narratives and layered perspectives.

ARC REVIEW

The story is quite complex, and I had to reread certain passages slowly to not get lost in the flow of the story and the many POVs throughout the book. With that being said, I don't think this book is suitable for casual readers. I fell in love with the author's writing style. Gosh, I seriouly could feel and relate to every character in the book. Their desperations, their fears. I wanted to hug each one of them.

Congrats, author. You won me over, and I'll be waiting for your next book.
