Death was supposed to be my end. Instead, it was just the beginning.
I woke up in someone else’s body, inside the Shadow Academy, a school for elite warriors. Now they think I’m someone I'm not, and until I escape, I’ll have to play along.
But things get complicated when strange powers awaken inside me, along with forgotten memories.
Then there are the four elite Shadows who hate me for some reason, but also think I’m their mate:
Knox, the lethal assassin who hears my every thought and whispers back in a voice like sin. Malakai, the Shadow shifter who sees through my eyes—and likes what he finds. Theon, whose shadows alone cause pain, pretends to be cold, but one hint of my fear sends him feral. And Cyrus, the nightmare Shadow who slithers into my dreams just to play.
Between brutal classes, war camps, and deadly games against a rival academy, I’m also hunting the truth. Because this body isn’t the only thing that’s stolen.
My death was no accident. And if they think I’ll play by their rules, they’re dead wrong.
Answers or ashes. Maybe I’ll just end up burning this place down.

reread 26/1/26: reread just before book #2 is released, because god knows i don't remember a single thing 🤩 just as fun the second time around!!
~~~
highly addictive, wonderfully trashy. this really hit the spot for my little rh craving! we had some guys who originally hated our heroine - but quickly got over it and were always incredibly obsessed with her (that's what i like to hear) - a vaguely unique body swap plotline, and a fully unnecessary cliffhanger. do i know a single love interests' name or personality? no. do i care? no!
basically, it's a hit alongside all my other forgettable trashy rh books!!
ps. people said they had a lot of grammar and editing problems. honestly, i only noticed a couple of them, but i have heard that the author is fixing errors in the e-book as people point them out, so i may have just read the updated version. either way, didn't affect my reading, but i can understand the irritation!
Shadow Bonds was.. okay. Probably more like a 2.75/5. I’d probably be kinder to it had I not just read a series or two before this that felt more compelling to me. I know it’s unfair to compare this to those series, but it’s hard not to. I think I found a couple of grammatical errors and typos, and the pacing of this was off. The cliffhanger was an interesting choice… I ended this feeling more confused than anything else really.
This was so good, but there were SO many grammatical errors. It almost felt like reading a mid-rate translation at times. I don't usually mind typos and such, but it did get a bit annoying. That being said, this was a good read, and I look forward to the next book.
I would like to know what happened to the original Sena, though. Especially after learning what we did in the last chapter. I'm so curious about the person who was living her life before her, since she seemed like an absolute terror.
Що відбувається в цьому світі?🙈 таке шось твориться, нічо не зрозуміло. Мене кидало від «ох і дитячий садок» до «бугагаг, давайте ще». Авторка напхала сюди все що можна😁 Крилаті мужчинки - є. Пустельний червʼяк зубастік - є. Якийсь криваво-кислотний дощ - є. Невʼєбєнна сила героїні (і де кінець цієї сили поки не відомо) - є. Головні мужчинки апасні і всі їх бояться - є (і теж сила силенна і кінця краю не видно😁) Шо ще? Якщо в другій частині вилізе раптово Різенд з «Сена, дарлінг» я вже не здивуюсь🙈 А ще нашу гг Сену кидають в ями частіше, ніж вона встигає кліпнуть. Стільки подій на квадратний метр, що я в шоці😁 не встигла з однієї сраки вилізти гг, як потрапляє в іншу, нон-стоп. Бідолашка😬 Але Сена не шмаркля і не ниє. Впала, встала, обтрусилась і готова до нової ями😁 Чг такі крутелики, що відрубають голови, виривають серця і випускають кишки направо і наліво, і нічого їм за це не буде😎ну подумаєш, їхню пару захочуть ще більше людей прибить🤪 Сподобалось, як героїня спочатку давала відсіч своїм придуркам парам, не стелилась💪🏼 як теж з них знущалась🤩 Виявилось, що вони і не придурки зовсім🙈 а няшечки, звісно. Але коли розкрилась причина придурошності, то я була в шоці чому вони її не прибили🫤 вони ж так легко всіх стирають в порошок, чому не її… Через те, що події несуться дуже швидко, я не відчула моменту, коли гг перейшли від «фу, ненавиджу» до «хто це з тобою зробив» і «вічний стояк» до «щенячих оченят і пристрасті». І дуууже бісило, що гг кожного разу в ситуації пиздеця і «зараз здохну» закривалась від пар🙈 це говорили-балакали, сіли й заплакали😁 замість покликати на поміч всьо сама😁 а враховуючи, що ситуації пиздеця майже на кожній другій сторінці, то це дуже забембало. По моїй писанині можна подумати, що книга не сподобалась, але мені сподобалось🤣 це таке розважально-відпочивальне роментезі, де нема глибоких переживань і якоїсь особої логіки, але читається запоєм і неможливо відірватись🥹 хочеться дізнатись, що ще напхає авторка 😁 точно буду продовжувати і чекати третьої частини❤️
The story concept was good. Execution was where it was lacking. I feel like the writing could have been stronger. I don’t think I was fully invested in the characters. There were reveals which should have been interesting but were not. I found myself skimming pages near the end. I saw this book on tik tok and was intrigued by the concept but this was a little disappointing.
3.5 ⭐️ Just what I needed as a break from my other books. Very fast paced but lacked world building and some character development but I loved the dynamic between Sena and her shadows. Looking forward to reading the next one!
Окей це було очень очень плохо. Типу да. Тут були бета рідери? Редактор? Ні?
Окей типу сама задумка була цікава вона, була прикольна і була оригінальна але реалізація… Ех
Сюжет: Сена (головна героїня) прокидаєтьсяся в якомусь палаці де бачити себе(своє тіло) мертвим, потім її звідти виносять і вона бачить шо її минуле тіло згоріло. Потім вона знову відключається, включається все в Академії Тіні і зустрічає чотири супер гарних немов грецькі боги чоловіків, які ненавидять її (тобто людину яка було в її тілі до неї). Вона не памʼятає хто вона, як її звати але якимось чином памʼятає своє минуле життя (але про це толком не розписували ( наче і памʼятає, а наче і ні) так періодами да нє. залежить чи удобно це для сюжета). Вони її там трохи побулили а потім поняли шо вона їхній мейт і трохи угомонилися, але все одно тримали обіду на Сену, а вона то поняття не має шо вона їм зробила, бо вона не памʼятає(вона притворялася Сеною бо подумала шо вона вид під забороною і її за це вбʼють). Ну короче потім все в них буде добре вони її швидко пробачать і все любов ( до речі якщо вам цікаво сексу тут не було, та я так ще подумала тут і про любов особо не було їх просто тягнуло до неї а її до них).
Щодо персонажів Якщо говорити про хлопців то я їх досі не особо відрізняю, бо по суті по окремо вони не розкриті взагалі, та навіть не по окремо вони не розкриті. Щодо Сени уявіть собі Мері Сью та помножте її на 10 - вийде Сена. Серйозно за щоб вона не бралася все виходить з першого разу: щит? само собою вийшло. керування магією хлопців? 5 сек і в неї все виходить. метання кинджал? в ціль з першого разу. різні бойові трюки? 2 секунди і вона вирубає їх тренера. І це я навіть не перебільшою, все їй дається дуже просто без аби який зусиль. І ладно якби нам хоть трохи пояснили хоч половину з цього, а то виходить «знаю все з минулого життя» а звідки не пояснили, це враховуючи той факт шо вона нічого не памʼятає з минулого життя, але нам про це просто нічого не розказали. Типу вона навіть нормального бекграунда не має, ми про неї знаємо абсолютно Н І Ч О Г О. До того всього вона просто магніт для проблем, але як тільки з нею щось стається в неї прокидається якийсь 100500 дар і все з нею добре. Це навіть не інтєрєсно.
Поки без редагування сорі за помилки може колись виправлю)
FMC gets tossed into a new body. Ok. Drama ensues. Ok. Ridiculous blackmail side plot with her “family”? A step too far for me.
She caves to any kind of external threat without ever once saying anything to the impacted parties because she assumes she knows best. Over and over. By the time the brother showed up again, it was just stumbling into stupid. I did not like the FMC, and come the “shocking” reveal? I just don’t care anymore.
Added to my review after the fact: Author has now said this is trilogy. She has already started the final book. I haven’t started book 2 yet. As I will wait until it’s finished. My opinion on authors stretching plots out that they probably shouldn’t still stands here.
Fuck’s sake. I thought this was a finished series. Fuck my luck. 😭😭😭 Ugh.
This was actually a good read. Interesting plot. Liked the characters. Etc.
Let’s hope the author sticks to a duet here bc tbh it isn’t going to be a good series if she drags this out. There isn’t that much more to tell, learn and conquer. (EDITED TO ADD LOOKS LIKE YET ANOTHER AUTHOR IS TRYING TO DRAG OUT PLOTS THAT SHOULDNT BE😩)
No spice RH no MM Fated mates KU FMC is a super special mary Jane and it unfolds as the story goes. 😬
Readjusting my review bc as it turns out the author has decided to string this along for another book as I stated above. I am shocked tbh bc there was simply not enough here to do more than a duet. 🤷🏻♀️We’ll see tho
Started out interesting. Soon felt like I was reading a recap or a bullet points draft that’s not expanded on. Taking the flow out of the story. Couldn’t enjoy it due to this. Story was good. - Bullet. - Point. - Feel. - Is. - Not.
Entertaining but basic. Surface level writing with minimal to no world building. All the "big reveals" were just glazed over and felt unimportant due to the writing style. Still entertaining enough, but I wouldnt classify it as good.
*1.5/5, rounded up i honestly forgot to even write this review because i forgot the book even existed and that i read it
this book was SO repetitive and boring and i honestly skimmed most of it hoping it would finally get good. i was really hoping based on the description it would have been a decent read because it could’ve been such a well written book with comical aspects to it.
the basic idea of it is good but it just ends up being like every other romantasy/bonded romance story that is out there currently. i get some people like the repetitiveness of this genre but i cannot read the same thing over and over
There are just so many better books of this genre out there.
Hell, there's better paranormal why-choose romance books specifically about a a girl in an incorrect body lying about who and what she is in order to attend a war academy and complete trials to prove her strength, with exactly four love interests that are mated to her through an assignment ceremony she didn't know about, who also has a secret evil goal to at the exact same time that she is unknowingly ... AND whose mates include a shifter, a shadow daddy, and one that controls dreams that is ALSO the first of the four to fall her.
So yeah, not going to lie I think it's okay to skip this one.
Fast-paced and completely unputdownable — I read it in a day.
The story kicks off with the FMC waking up in a body that’s not hers, no memory, just the image of her real body burning in a fire. She’s thrown into a world she doesn’t understand, surrounded by men who all hate her… at first.
It’s a reverse harem with strong hate-to-lovers energy, a slow burn, and a badass, sassy heroine. The relationship tension is top tier — watching the trust rebuild was addictive. Ends on a cliffhanger and now I need the next book.
Tropes: ✔️ Reverse harem ✔️ Hate to lovers ✔️ Slow burn ✔️ Amnesia/memory loss ✔️ Strong FMC ✔️ Found family / forced proximity ✔️ Cliffhanger ending
Mates, bonds, 4 shadow zaddies, FMC who’s not a completely helpless damsel in distress? ✅✅✅✅ I liked it! Spice level 🌶️ But with some serious potential for book 2, which of course ISNT OUT YET!!! Hate that for me. I like the preface that she’s not in her own body but like wtf, no one could give her a heads up? Nothing? Idk why but I love it when a book has a dream walker. Don’t get me wrong, there were lots of grammar errors and the plot wasn’t perfect but overall I enjoyed! P.S why is there ALWAYS a main character named Knox? And why is he always the most unhinged?
“fEmaLes” keep the big, strong warriors from going crazy, and all the big, strong warriors protect the world from evil things invading from the bad place, but all the women get verbally and physically abused and all men are sadists and no one cares if the one **object** (yeah) that keeps the whole shebang from collapsing into anarchy is basically a use-once-then-destroy item?
I love RH but good grief, it’s so hard to wade through misogyny. I’m tired, boss.
I had to check twice to make sure I didn’t miss a book before this. I felt like I was drop kicked into the most cliche fantasy, paranormal, academy world ever. Fated mates with fake enemies to lovers because she was mean so they were mean back but the actual person wasn’t mean she’s different also here is a convenient skill they ambiguously give her because why not, also by the way monsters, and training but why and also they’ll go feral but not really and oooh sexy smile bit I hate you. Anyway not impressed don’t need to read book two
I lost interest. There was random time jumps that confused me. I couldn't get over how chill the FMC is about being in a completely unfamiliar body living a new life. All emotions are only explored to a surface level even though characters should be dealing with serious trauma.
I got to 90% complete and then it became a massive lore dump which I found so uninteresting. There isn't enough difference between the male characters. No interesting interactions with minor characters occur.
It felt unrealistic - and that's saying something coming from a why choose paranormal romance reader.
well it’s definitely on me for starting series when only one book is out, sigh, i guess i’ll just sit here and stare at the wall while we wait to find out what that cliffhanger is all about (January 30th for those wondering when the sequel is out, the author also stated she’s already working on book 3)
i enjoyed it when i first read it and i enjoy it now, i love that it’s just a good easy read and you can read it in one sitting if you’re determined, minor enemies to lovers? but i love the slowly developing relationship so bad 🥹
I stumbled across this book thanks to a random TikTok - I am surprised that it is not all over Booktok yet (to be fair it JUST came out) but I am sure that it will get there. For fans of The Blackened Blade series and Bonds of Hercules, this is EXACTLY what you need. Now it is the first book in a series which just came out so you'll probably be waiting around for awhile for Book 2. If you are ok with that then don't wait - pick it up today. Might be my fave book of 2025 so far.
The FMC, who comes to awareness in the body of a girl named Sena, has no past memories and no idea what the person's (previous Sena) life was like and she now has to navigate her time a brutal academy she doesn't remember (because she's never been there) with 4 men that hate her for reasons she doesn't know. On top of that she can't tell anyone that she has woken up in someone else's body or risks certain death. This book is mainly dedicated to now Sena learning about the academy and the world, developing the relationship with the men (enemies to lovers but not yet lovers in this book really - prob qualifies as slow burn) and developing skills that someone like her isn't supposed to have. Cool abilities and world building. Everything is not resolved at the end of the book as this is the start of a series but at the same time the Cliffhanger is not one that had me wishing I hadn't begun the book until the rest of the series was out. Enjoy!
Imagine waking up in another body, and that body is the companion to 4 dangerously sexy shadow Daddies....but she was also an absolute wench so they hate you. 😅
Well, the plot hooked me in real quick. I'd be pretty bummed if the body I switched with was the companion to multiple hot shadow Daddies, only for them to hate me because the previous host was wretched to them.
The kicker is Sena has to spend time with her elite Shadows, or else their madness will consume them. But that doesn't mean they have to be nice to her...hence, lots of hazing/bullying.
Sena also finds out her new body is stronger, faster, and has powers she had no idea existed.
I will be honest. The character descriptions were a bit lacking. When Sena first meets Knox, Theon, Cyrus, and Malakai, their descriptions are very vague. Theon is blonde, and the rest are dark-haired with various eye colors... One of them has dimples, and they all have black tattoos. I honestly can not differentiate these guys in my mind. For being the main characters, they are kind of bland.
Ultimamente sono stata molto fortunata con le mie letture Reverse Harem, spero che diventi una regola e non un'eccezione. Questo libro mi è piaciuto, l'ho letto tutto d'un fiato senza annoiarmi neanche per un momento, anzi, non sono riuscita a metterlo giù finché non l'ho finito. Parte in maniera molto originale, o almeno a me non era mai capitato di leggere una via di mezzo tra una reincarnazione istantanea e uno scambio di corpi. La parte divertente è che la protagonista si risveglia nel corpo della ragazza maligna e manipolatrice dell'accademia, quella che molti odiano ed in particolar modo i suoi compagni. Piacevoli anche gli MMC, non molto riconoscibili all'inizio ( molto dipende dal fatto che i loro poteri sono tutti legati alle ombre ), ma hanno delle caratterizzazioni abbasta distinte. Leggerò anche il secondo ovviamente, e fortunatamente non dovrò aspettare tanto, solo un paio di giorni.
The premise and promise for this book has a lot going for it. I’m really intrigued by the plot and setting, but felt like we circled the miscommunication and secret drain too long to make headway in the romance and character depth. I left this book feeling the characters were at exactly the same connection level as they were at the beginning minus the bulky angle. I think if the author had leaned into the emotions a little more, made me the reader feel them, than this book could’ve certainly risen to another level. It has all the makings for a good book, just needs a little more oomph on each page to carry it beyond surface-dwelling lust and mate bonds to something truly special.
It was a good book with the potential for great. I just was looking for a little more depth, but I will be continuing with the next installment to see where we go from here.
