As two Alphan warriors on the fast track to promotion and improved status, Mikel and Felix of the Tauride have their future planned out. They intend to go from performing security duties for the Prince while he visits Earth to eventually earning the right to seek out their human mate and rescue her in some dramatic way, impressing her and earning her love. But a chance encounter with a lovely young woman sends them both down a markedly different path.
Shy Alisa Sorrel merely wanted to see a rose garden, then retreat back to her safe and sequestered life in the Women’s Refuge on Earth, but once she encounters two earnest and determined Alphan officers, she’s forced out of her shell and into a whole new world of passion.
Even as the bonds they share tighten and satisfy needs they’d never imagined, Alisa, Felix, and Mikel are soon faced with danger and betrayal from the machinations of humans and Alphans alike. The Alphans will have the chance to rescue their fair damsel after all, but will they make it in time?
Enjoyable and fun sci-fi mmf romance with two larger than life aliens: the two Alphans looked like they could toss a sofa back and forth between them without strain ....and a very lucky earth girl who they try to satisfy and worship all the time.
Sci-fi menages are always a treat for me. I read a couple of Planet Alpha menages and they were always fun reads.
It is another alien story where men have to find their mates in the other side of the galaxy and find human’s women compatible to their races to bear their children.
This kind of plot is not new. But what I liked, was the aliens not on their ship or their planet or space or trying to free the humans from slavery. They were on earth trying to cohabit with the devastated planet and the remains of humans. I will not spoil the epilogue, but I liked it too.
So it was a mix of survivors and conquerors and saviors. Yep, I liked it a lot. I also like the racial issue between races.
What I liked less was the characters. I thought the men were too weak and both too much alike with no distinct personalities. They see the heroine and it seems that they lost their intelligence and let their little heads think for them. They were driven by their instinct to try to have sex with her as soon as possible with the fear that other would steal her. However, they were sweet. So if you like lovable sweet lovestruck heores, then you have them.
I have mixed feelings about the heroine. I thought she was believable to not fall for strange aliens as I usually read in other menage but it took too long considering the length of the story. It is possible that the heroes fell too quick and she did not. Probably also because they were bisexual, yet I never felt the love or lust between both males.
The story is all centered on the heroine which is okay for many readers. I am not one of them regarding MMF menages. I believe that each character in the relationship must have equal romance, sex and presence within the story. If the males are bisexual, I want to know their love story but not at the expense of the love story with the heroine. But still, I expect some love and male on male sex.
Bisexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction or sexual behavior toward both males and females, and may also encompass romantic or sexual attraction to people of any gender identity or to a person irrespective of that person’s biological sex or gender, which is sometimes termed pansexuality. Wikipedia
Therefore, when an author tag his or her story MMF, it IS expected that all characters will be equally attracted romantically and sexually, not more with one or the other. This is what was missing here for me.
Other than that, I found the writing easy. It was a nice sweet romance that was lovely to read. ;)
I’d pre-ordered this book because I love J.J Lore’s Planet Alpha series, so when it slipped onto my kindle reader yesterday I couldn’t wait to read it. The lure of another delicious Sci-Fi romance involving this author’s gorgeous Alphan warrior characters was irresistible and I put off doing something else to read it. I wasn’t disappointed. Her heroes are lovely, handsome, strong, honorable, sexy, and in this book such great fun I had to smile a few times at their interactions, and the thoughts they shared as they sought out the woman they knew was destined to be their wife. The care and love they bestow on the human woman who unexpectedly crosses their path is enviable. The sex/love scenes are exotic as they share in giving her as much pleasure as possible. The plot is deeper than just a sexy romp, as threads of danger to both the Alphan warriors and their lady are woven in, and a sense that something sinister may happen kept me turning the pages. This is another hugely enjoyable story from J.J Lore and I hope to see more from her in this series.
This is a review of the writing, not the publishers blurb.
I gave this a three star because of the use of language and words! I really liked the use of unusual words that I don't see in many of the novels I read.
The editing was really done well too.
This was too short for what it was being sold for. I did get this on "sale" thru Evernight, but it should have been much, much less than even that.
As usual, this was a fast read with the characters falling for each other at the speed of light.
Sex scenes were pretty much straight forward and vanilla even for a ménage.
Not going any further with this series or author, but still loved all the cool words!
This is a quick and simple alien menage romance read. Denial, avoidance, lust, sex, acceptance, mating & love. All this with some drama thrown in. Good for what it is.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
People often talk about how great this book is or how amazing that book was. They compare the authors to great artists like Rembrandt or Michelangelo. But what people forget is that sometimes you don’t care about the classics, you just want to sit back, relax and escape from the stress of everyday living. That’s exactly what Unexpected by J.J. Lore was for me. If I had to pick just one word to describe the book, it would be fun; light, delicious and just plain irresistible.
Unexpected is the 8th book in the Planet Alpha series detailing the romantic adventures of those yummy aliens who are looking for their bondmates. Mikel and Felix, two Alpha warriors on their way to promotion, have dreams of rescuing a human woman and earning her love. Instead, it’s a chance encounter with Alisa that drives their path to love. Alisa is shy and still recovering emotionally from her ordeal after being captured by Xyrans. It will take everything they have for Mikel and Felix to win her over considering there are others who don’t believe humans and Alphans should mix.
I have read other books in this series and one of the reasons I keep coming back for more is because of the heroes. Ms. Lore has created a race of alpha warriors who are gentle, caring and loving with the woman who is their bondmate. Mikel and Felix might not be the most suave and debonair gentleman but they have only Alisa’s best interests at heart. Their attempts to win her heart are often comical and very sweet. I found myself smiling throughout reading because their antics were just so endearing.
The sex scenes are also unbelievably erotic. Both men are focused on bringing Alisa as much pleasure as possible and their dedication to Alisa is evident on every page. Ms. Lore is very creative with her writing and has created a whole new language of body parts that the men/aliens have. She also uses her inventiveness to create a bondmate scenario that helps explain the instant love and connection between Alisa and the two warriors. I can only admire her imagination and am pleased that she is willing to share it with us.
Unexpected can be read as a standalone though you will miss out on the history of how the aliens came to be on Earth and the dangers human women face from the Xyrans. But you will be able to completely follow the growing bond between Alisa, Mikel and Felix. So grab a snack, carve out some time, sit back and relax, and just have a good time while you enjoy this book.
UNEXPECTED was a great futuristic romance novella. There was a surprising amount of character development packed into this small book, especially for the heroine. When we first meet Alisa her character jumps and flinches at just about everything. As the story progresses it is subtly apparent how much strength and confidence she draws from both her bond with the heroes and her experiences during the outings they draw her into.
Felix and Mikel, the heroes, are at turns adorable and alpha male arrogant. I enjoyed the slip ups and bumbling of the heroes as they tried to figure out and implement a plan for courting Alisa. It was obvious they were aliens on a futuristic Earth and watching the two navigate the cultural divide between themselves and Alisa was entertaining.
There was just enough suspense for a story of this length. The scenes were hot but didn't overwhelm the story line. Menage worked for these three characters and the brief M/M scene was...titillating. (Ha! There's really no other word for it.) I'm looking forward to the next in this series.
Another alien-occupied earth teaming with the sexiest alpha males desperate to find their one and only female. Of course, it's not just single alien males looking for their better half, but a PAIR of males both bonded and looking to share a life-long mate. Wow! Double the pleasure! And lucky earth women because these are no bald, scaley, lizard-like aliens, but are the most enticing, ruggedly handsome, beautifully sculpted specimens in this sector of the universe (even if they do have horns!) The most wonderful aspect of these very virile males is their utter and total worshipping dedication to their one chosen female mate. Yes, just the most perfect female fantasy come to life! Oh, and the story isn't bad either. ( : - }
