Maggie James was sixteen years old when the Earth self-destructed. She's spent the years since fighting to protect herself and the band of subway-dwelling misfits who took her in. Every day is a struggle to survive, and she's seen the best and the worst of humanity. Hope seems lost until a tall, gorgeous hunk of a man from another world appears out of nowhere.

Captain Liam Estros a soldier for the Drastan Nation who has been sent to investigate a mayday call over five years old. Believing the detour a waste of time, he doesn't take the hunt for survivors seriously until he's captured and taken hostage by a small human woman.

In a world torn asunder by ignorance and violence, some will always revel in the chaos, preying on those just trying to survive. Heroes will rise from the ashes, and hope will come from the stars. Two hearts and two species. They must both overcome terrible odds to find love in desolation.

Decent post apocalyptic premise with some interesting characters. Runs into issues with editing and I can't quite reconcile the time spent before getting in contact with Maggie's little family in the tunnels to assist them??!! When Maggie did finally make contact the moment seemed to flat line. Would like a little more climax in my climax. Will read the next in series to see where we go...

Oh what a great story!!!

Grumpy military father. Busy indifferent mother. Bratty younger sister. After the world turns on itself and the survivors are trying to carve out an existence. We meet Maggie and the man from another planet that rescues her. Ok e this story. Maggie is tough. A leader and protector. Liam is a military captain. Tough. Profective. And so very sweet to Maggie.

I love this series!

KD Jones does a wonderful job creating a story about the apocalypse. This is the story of survival after all nukes have been launched. An alien race receives an old distress call from Earth from 5 years ago. Liam is sent to Earth to offer assistance. He meets Maggie and is taken captive. This is the first book in this series. It has a HEA but doesn't really resolve helping Earth. I highly recommend this series.

Solid # stars.

I liked this it was fast paced and interesting. The characters were fun and had depth even the secondary characters. In fact I'm hoping Jared and Lily...just a thought.

Now detractors: INSTA LOVE... One day people...one day is not enough unless we are talking fated. and while fated was hinted at, Maggie is human ...Need more basis. Even with that I liked their relationship, it just could have been more rounded out. Especially with Maggie's past.

I wish we could have seen more development between her and her family. It was there but there were SOOO many feels in this book.

I liked the plot and the characters enough to continue, I'm hoping the next book will be more rounded and in depth because it deserves it.

Well. I read it from the start to the beginning. The story was ok, there was a story that could easily happen, so it didn't make it weird. It's my first sci-fi read and will probably also be my last.

The story stated out a bit long before you meet Liam Estro and the whole connection between Marissa and Liam, but then the whole thing happened very fast. It was ok, but not something I would recommend reading if you are not into sci-fi books.

Not too bad

The book could have been better by expanding the lives of Maggie and Liam. Good plot. The one good thing about the book is that there was no slaves, no caveman mentality and no harsh treatment of the women.

Great series beginning

I have read many books by KD Jones, and this looks to be another good one. I would hope that our world governments are as prepared for a nuclear holocaust as they are in this book.perhaps it should be required reading?

Excellent Story

I really enjoyed this novel. The writing was smartly done, the story was intelligent, and the aliens were portrayed as a caring society. The love story between Maggie and Liam was sweet and sexy. I'm definitely excited to read the next adventure in the series.

Realistic story of post apocalypse life.

Good story of survival following nuclear worldwide apocalypse. Reverting to tribal groups, also the divisions between people who are lucky enough to live in bunker-type shelters, and those who are fighting to survive outside.
