The west of Ireland — wild, windswept, and steeped in secrets. When murder shatters the peace of this rugged landscape, Detective Sergeant Maureen Lyons and Inspector Mick Hays are the ones who answer the call.
From a body found on a storm-lashed bog road to the killing of a mysterious escort with powerful clients, Lyons and Hays tackle Galway’s darkest crimes with intelligence, intuition, and sheer determination. In a close-knit community where everyone has something to hide, justice is never straightforward — and danger is never far away.
Spanning eight compelling cases, this best-selling series takes readers from mist-covered mountains and coastal villages to back alleys and grand hotels. Fast-paced, full of suspense, and rich in local colour, this is Irish police procedural at its finest.
MEET THE DETECTIVES 🔎 DS Maureen Lyons – A sharp, intuitive investigator with a reputation for straight talk and quiet tenacity. Galway born and bred, she’s known for getting results — whether she’s taking down armed raiders or prising secrets out of tight-lipped suspects. Off duty, she’s wryly self-aware and fiercely independent. 🔍 Inspector Mick Hays – A veteran copper with a dry sense of humour and deep roots in the West. Hays brings a calm, strategic presence to each case, with a subtle moral compass and a tendency to trust his gut — especially where Lyons is concerned.
DISCOVER THE WEST OF IRELAND Rugged, remote, and utterly unforgiving — Galway and the surrounding Connemara region are as much characters in these novels as the detectives themselves. Misty boglands, windswept peninsulas, sleepy villages and bustling city streets collide in this unforgettable landscape, where murder always leaves a mark.

Attention: Some Spoiler Info. Only read the first story, Murder on the Old Bog Road. Overall, the mystery part of the book was ok. I thought it was very much like a CSI-version were everything happens super fast (a flight to a different country on one day's notice to interview a suspect?? No paperwork channels??) I hoped for more character development. I understand it's set in Ireland. However, starting a sexual relationship between a woman employee and her boss weakens both their standings in my eyes. I know it's not the US, but that could jeopardize her career much more than his and respect for policewomen in the workplace is finally making strides.
I found this an unputdownable series. It was easy to read, not overcomplicated and I didn't have to go back a couple of chapters to remind myself of the characters and who was connected to each other. I dislike books that throw 20 people at you in the first chapter, it's too crowded. I wanted to get to the end of the book but wanted it to go on on. If you get the drift. Looking forward to reading more of this author.
Loved reading these books, each one was intriguing and full of action. The backstory of all the main characters was well worked and provided a good thread throughout the books. I don't know the area but I enjoyed finding out, great descriptions and fast moving action means these books are not to be missed by any crime reader
Good from start to finish. I learned about policing in the two Irelands and Europe! Certainly not a gun culture as here in the states. Police can actually get into trouble for shooting a criminal, even in self defense, weird.
Excellent Books with interesting setting The only real problem is that They sure go out to eat a lot That and the fact that you can't shoot Desperate bastards in the knee and expect them to be disabled
A most delightful read. The characters were quite real and honest. The settings quaint and familiar. I enjoyed visiting them in these pages and would love to meet them again.
The mysteries in Galway are hard to put down once started. Well written, keeping the door to the very end. I would enjoy them even more without the vulgar language from the detectives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Brilliant characters that just wrap you into their lives. Quite a bit descriptive with the beautiful area he is in. The writer's style was smart, sassy and snarky. Well rounded stories and very detailed. Great read
Enjoyable series about a team of detectives that solve many mysteries. Along the way, relationships develop, promotions happen, characters move on and generally entertain the reader.
Decent storylines, likeable characters, interesting setting. I would read more from this author.
I've been to Eire a few times and despite the frequent references to the rain it has never rained when I've been there.. An excellent fast moving series
Great characters with exciting and very varied cases. They are all really good reads and once you start you will want to continue until you finish all the books.
David Pearson has a way of holding your attention with the simplicity of his words yet the complexity of his plots - a joy to read and I just love the ongoing characters through the 8 book series Thank You David
