With 7.5 tons of World Trade Center steel melted into her bow, what if there are more souls aboard the USS New York than the sailors and Marines stationed there? And what if those souls can help the troops defeat al-Qaeda this time?

When Gwyn Pritchard reports aboard the USS New York, she’s the only person who sees 9/11 spirits roaming the decks. As the sole survivor of an IED blast, Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Adam Connor is wrestling with his own haunted past, but when he learns Gwyn is seeing ghosts aboard their ship, he becomes her confidant...and her lover.

Passions rise to fever pitch when the New York rushes to liberate hostages in North Africa. Can the spirits provide the right intelligence for the Marines to save the prisoners? Can Gwyn help the ghosts move on to the light? And can Adam and Gwyn find the love they’ve searched the world over for?

So glad I read this on the anniversary of 9/11.

The title, which is perfectly apropos for the series, is the same as the motto of the USS New York, the story's setting.

I liked all the characters and can't wait to get my next fix.

Good suspense at the end, interesting things with ghosts, but too much jumping around for me.

Three stories are being told. I did not like the way the author jumped around among them. Sometimes it was one page on one story, then jump to another story for a few pages, then jump to the third story. I would prefer at least a chapter on each story before switching to another. If you want to talk about two couples, I’d prefer they interact with each other to develop one story instead of jumping to separate locations to tell separate stories. But some readers won’t mind this.

The first 175 pages is about life on two ships: The USS New York (US Navy) and a British Navy ship. Readers wanting to read technical things about ships and interactions among the crew should like this. For me, I wanted to be drawn in to the characters more.

The last 85 pages were good suspense about hostages in Morocco. The ending was happy.

One of the couples has a happy romantic ending. A second couple begin a relationship; their story continues in the sequel “Unforgettable.” For both couples it’s “insta-attraction” in the beginning of the book. That was too much for me. As soon as the woman sees the guy she immediately starts thinking how hunky/sexy he is. That may be believable, but I’d prefer getting to know someone a little before I see how attracted they are to someone else. All four main characters (two men and two women) were done this way.

The third story is about a group of ghosts who died during 9/11. They now inhabit the USS New York ship. One of them is able to communicate with Gwen.

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Story length: 261 pages. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: mild. A few sex scenes. Setting: current day mostly on ships in various locations. Copyright: 2014. Genre: fantasy military romance with some suspense.

Totally and wonderfully OUTside of the box. This book has it all, sexy military guys and gals, intrigue where and when you least expect it and spirits determined to get their own back. Ashby is so spot on with her Yanks and their cousins across the pond, she's either had a former life as a Brit or she's got great coaching. It was fun and interesting seeing into the inner workings of a military warship both British and American and the differences in officer/enlisted relations. I was already enjoying the book when I thought it was just a romance with the twist of an officer exchange program, but then the action heated up and it became an action story as well. Like I said, this book has it all, including some really fun and spicy sex. And then there were those souls not on the USS New York's official roster.

Never Forget is a unique concept I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a romance novel. However, the author's execution of the story is brilliant.
Frank “Nick” Nikolopoulos (I hope I spelled that right – it’s Greek to me), a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, has been assigned to a British ship for one year, the HMS Atlantic, when he’s introduced to the sexiest woman he’s ever seen. Sparks fly. Unfortunately, Trudy happens to be Nick’s assistant engineer and is strictly off-limits. We know right there where that relationship is headed, but getting there is still a roller-coaster ride of a page-turner.
Meanwhile, there’s plenty of action on the other side of the ocean aboard the USS New York, an amphibious assault ship with a hull fashioned out of something like seven and a half tons of smelted steel rescued from the twin towers after 9/11. The exchange of an officer from the British ship to the USS New York sets up yet another budding romance between Royal Navy Lieutenant Gwyn Pritchard, and gunnery sergeant “Gunny Connor.” Despite their attempts to avoid each other, they are constantly thrown together because aboard this ship the population isn’t restricted to living beings, and Gwyn can see the ghosts.
Hold onto your hat, because things are going to get complicated as the story unfolds and spirits wander throughout the ship, taking action on their own as disaster strikes.
Brava to the Ms. Ashby for daring to write such a memorable and touching story.

I thought this was a wonderful book. There is so much happening in it, that I was never bored or waiting for something exciting. There is a rather large group of characters, which I really enjoyed. I fell in love with all of them, and their stories. Heather Ashby did an amazing job developing each and every one of them. I had no trouble following along, and there were a lot of surprises. Not only did the characters, living and spirits, play on my emotions, but the setting for the story was moving as well. I was able to tell there was a lot of knowledge put into this book because I had no problem envisioning the USS New York. I was so happy I did not get lost in the military jargon either. This was another aspect that Heather Ashby handled beautifully. I was able to get lost in the characters and the story because Ashby had it all laid out perfectly. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by Heather Ashby. I read it mostly out of curiosity, wondering why everyone who reviewed this book unanimously gave it 5 stars.
Personally, I really liked the concept of commemorating the fallen of 09/11, but I had a bit of a difficult time with the supernatural aspect of the story. Nevertheless, the spirits were endearing and believable. Their presence was immensely touching. I liked the symbolism of it. But when it comes down to it, this is mainly a romance story, and honestly, thàt part of the story-telling turned out rather average. I didn’t get enough substance from the lead romantic characters.
On another note, it was interesting to read about how life is like on the huge warships with all their capabilities and equipment.

Heather Ashby doesn't disappoint in this 3rd instalment of her Love in the Fleet series. As always, I felt like I was living vicariously through Ms Ashby's characters, in such exotic locations, and sometimes, intense situations. Heather Ashby has a real knack for making her books feel so authentic, yet so accessible to civilians like me.

The things I like best about "Never Forget" are the premise of the entire book, and the sensitivity with which the topic of 9/11 and its victims were written about. This book is intriguing and exciting with two sizzling romances happening at the same time.

I'm a big fan of both military thrillers and ghost stories. I never thought I'd find both genres in one book...but that's just what I found in Never Forget, and I loved it! Mixed in with these two themes was a healthy dose of romance, which was also quite nice. I tend to be a bit squeamish about bedroom scenes, but found those in Never Forget to be on the classy side. I enjoyed the way the author wove together multiple story lines, bringing them all together at just the right moment. This was my first Heather Ashby book, but I don't think it will be my last!

Good military story with some love

I started this book because I knew someone involved with the writing process. I have a military background so it was nice to read a story that had accurate military language. The love story was good but I was hoping Adam got his happy ever after here instead of being continued to the next book. That was the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. But it did make for a good cliff hanger ending.

This is one of the best stories I 've read in a long time. There is adventure, laughter, love, and so much more. I enjoy series, the ongoing story. This book was exceptionally well written. The battle scenes were extremely well described. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read a book that grabs and holds your full attention

Loved the "spirits"! The emotions were real, parts of the story had me in tears. Had to keep reading to see what was on the next page.

Great follow up to Forgive and Forget and Forget Me Not, with new characters as well as cameos by some old friends. Two romances, two Navies, spirits waiting to cross over, and an action movie climax. I especially liked "the Lynx," and never guessed his true identity.

MWSA Review

Heather Ashby has a goal when she writes. It is a simple one: to entertain. Her book, Never Forget, Love in the Fleet Book 3, does that and does it well.

This is not a typical book review for me. It is my first romance novel. It was like going to a "chick-flick" with my wife and thoroughly enjoying the experience. Ashby writes for adult readers and does it very well.

Never Forget is invigorating in many ways and totally entertaining. Ms. Ashby includes adventure, a love for the military, and the supernatural in a wonderful way, crossing genres successfully. Her book is appealing to a broad audience of readers and I heartily recommend it.
