I didn't know a lot about China, this was a GREAT introduction to the culture and people of China with a lot of little details I found interesting! I know more about China now.
Another excellent book in this series, complete with a link at the end to several video clips (thirteen of them). China is such a fascinating country and this book gives a taster to kids and adults. Recommended.
It's a nice little book that gives you some fast little tidbits about China and China's history. Good for anyone who wants a swift refresher. Good for kids too. 😊
There's a lot of interesting things in this book. Some of the things I found most interesting include:
People were promoted on the basis of skill and intelligence. China invented silk, paper, printing, gunpowder, rudders and the abacus. The Terracotta Army has over 8000 figures Women were considered less important then men (something which hasn't changed much anywhere)
The book also talks about various dynasties and what they did. For example, the Ming Dynasty was known for massive civil engineering projects. The book also talks about Chinese religion, mythology, their calendar, festivals, their forms of art (calligraphy, poetry, painting) and Marco Polo.
He then adds even more things the Chinese invented. There's also a link to their site where more information on China can be found.
