Nina Bannister loves to paint, and she thinks her hobby is painless enough. But she is wrong. Her love of doing seascapes leads to a friendship with a young ex docent from The Chicago Art Museum--and to their entry into the murky and dangerous world of international art smuggling.
Can she save her young friend, who has been kidnapped to the mountains of southern Austria? Can she determine the identity and motives of the mysterious Red Claw? Can she see the real painting that is hidden beneath the false one?
Her success in these matters--indeed her very survival--depend on her ability to perform a last ditch Frame Change!
Yours truly felt like an international jet setter when reading Frame Change the 5th story in the Nina Bannister Mystery series! The plot line takes readers from Chicago, to little idyllic Bay St Lucy all the way across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe and back again.
I am sure you are wondering how darling little Nina Bannister manages to get mixed up in intrigue, murder, and espionage. This one reads like a spy thriller and involves Nina in the international and local art scene. You’ll want to pour yourself a nice cold G & T or beverage of your choice and come along for the whirlwind. This is another wonderful story from Nina’s creators T’Gracie and Joe Reese. Nina is the little sleuth that could!
Rambling writing style made it hard to read and difficult to understand. The characters were unbelievable and in some cases superfluous to the story. I only read to the end because I was without WiFi and unable to download anything else.
I gave up on this book multiple times and flipped through many pages and skipped many paragraphs but when I got about 70% of the way through, the book finally became really interesting. And the ultimate plot, the discovery was almost, but not quite worth the torture of getting to that point. Furthermore, the spacing of the e-book is terrible. If you can speed read through the first 3/4 of the book, I think you’ll find it absolutely fascinating.
An extremely erudite mystery, with enough depth both in character and plot that I would consider this a true piece of literature, Frame Change is a compelling story--hard to put down. Whether the setting is Chicago, Bay St Lucie Mississippi (a narrative remake of Bay St Louis MS or Port St Lucie FL?), or Graz, Austria, the local color is, indeed colorful and, near as I can tell, relatively accurate. There are no breaks in the action, and the suspense level is high throughout the book. This is one mystery I unabashedly recommend.
I enjoyed this Nina Bannister mystery very much. Nina's humor cracked me up; I laughed out loud quite a few times. I loved the setting of Bay St. Lucy, the quirky characters there, the self deprecating humor and the wonderful mystery. I was surprised by the ending and sad to finish reading Frame Change.
Well, I was completely blindsided by the ending of Frame Change. This is the first book in this series that seemed to be written by two different people, one handling Bay St. Lucy and one writing of Europe. One part traditional Nina, and one part somber and thoughtful, both blending into a good solid mystery.
What starts out rather slowly builds to a surprise ending. I loved the characters in this story. The only flaw was that there were no breaks between scene changes that appeared suddenly and sometimes baffled me until I realized what happened. Probably a problem with editing the ebook version.
I love reading mysteries/crime dramas, etc, if for no other reason than to see how ling it takes me to figure out whodunit before tbe great reveal. This book gave me clues, but so perfectly delivered, I missed them; I LOVED IT!
The book was well written. I liked the plot and the characters. There were a few words that could have been left out. I would recommend this book and this author to anyone.
I never saw it coming. The end of the mystery was a real surprise. Be careful not to read the ending ahead of time, or it will be spoiled. I would like to know what happened to Michael though.
The twists and turns of this story gave no hint whatsoever of how it would turn out in the end. This was a very well written mystery that was a joy to read. There was a little more dialogue than I personally care for, but it was a very interesting story.
This is book 5 of Nina Bannister Mystery and the only one I have read. I feel that it can stand alone really well. I would like to read the other 4 books now. I was happy about how it all came together and surprised me. The suspense was good. I enjoyed the plot. That everyone started to think because her paintings were selling that she must be a good artist. So they jumped on the band wagon.
Nina Bannister is learning to paint. She is a retired school teacher and Principal. Her friend Carol has become close to her. Nina has a lot of friends.
Carol was a teacher than worked for The Chicago Art Museum and now she has turned to smuggling art to help her sick father. Carol feels really close to Nina. They are having fun dreaming up a trip to Europe.
You are drawn into Carol and Nina's lives and you want to see them solve their problems and see how far Nina's paintings will go.
You can see how easy it is when you need money to start making wrong choices and then you get deeper and deeper into trouble.
There is a rich man who is buying stolen art and having it smuggled to one of his homes. There is a mystery person or group that is trying to find the stolen paintings from the Jews by Germans in WWII and steal it back to return to rightful owners. The couriers are disappearing.
The setting for most of the book happens in Bay St. Lucy, Mississippi
I like the sense of humor in the book too. I laughed a few times.
I was given this ebook to read so I could give a honest review and be apart of Frame Change blog tour.
Carol Walker is devastated when she is unceremoniously fired from her job as a docent at the Chicago Art Museum. Things suddenly take a turn for the better when Margo Gavin and Nina Bannister offer her a chance to do one of her art presentations in their small town of Bay St. Lucy.
Nina loves to paint. Little did she know her relaxing hobby would lead to international art smuggling. She fears for the life of her new friend, Carol, and finds her own life is suddenly in danger as well.
This is the fifth book in the series and the first one I’ve read. The story stands alone on its own merit, but I would have liked to read the previous ones so I could get to know Nina better. It’s always nice to have the full picture, but as I said, the story itself didn’t suffer and was filled with intrigue. It took me a couple of chapters to really get into the story, but when I did, it was well worth it. The mystery takes several twists and turns along the way and Nina is a strong character. It's a fast-paced story, which led me to a conclusion that I hadn’t expected at all. I would definitely want to read the next book, but first I’m going to go back and get the backlist.
If you love cozy mysteries, give this one a try.
