Hope Lanover necesita unas vacaciones.

I don’t love insta love in general but it makes sense to me when it’s a vacation fling. When there’s semi forced proximity and lots of fun activities/excursions to go on together PLUS the removal of pesky real life circumstances, it would be easy to fall for someone. My issue was that I just didn’t really like any of the characters and it didn’t seem like any of them were all that compatible. Her best friend was very self-involved and I frankly hated her whole schtick, but the idea that the FMC was jealous of her success was equally off putting to me. I just really didn’t understand why they were even friends. The main MC’s got along well, but it felt more like a friends with benefit situation and then all of the sudden there were accusations and hurt feelings. It’s not like there had been a conversation about being exclusive in any way. I could see why he would be hurt, but it didn’t make sense that he wouldn’t hear her out.
I understood why the FMC made the best of the situation when her ex ended up on an excursion with her, but I didn’t understand why she continued to spend time with him after that encounter. He caused her long term heartache, why put herself in his sphere any more than was absolutely necessary. I kind of liked the second half of the book when they were stranded, but it pissed me off that they were both so clueless and had such low emotional intelligence. He changed his mind about everything bizarrely fast after talking to two strangers for 5 minutes. They could have saved themselves a lot of trouble if they would have communicated even a tiny bit.
This was a cute premise, but my hatred for miscommunication and third act break ups made this one a miss for me. The sobriety rep was probably the best thing about this book.

Pre-read: Wish I had an influencer bestie to take me on a free cruise… 🛳️☀️
so the author who's novel irrevocably shattered my heart and glued the jagged pieces back together is writing another novel that is sure to do the same??
This was such a fun and heartwarming read! Hope and Felix’s meet cute on a cruise had me smiling right from the start, and I loved how their relationship developed not just into romance but also into a journey of self discovery. The story struck a nice balance; it was mainly light hearted and funny, but it also had some touching, emotional moments that gave the characters real depth.
Overall, it’s a sweet, feel good romance with plenty of banter, charm, and just enough vulnerability to make it stick with you after you turn the last page.
Total dreamboat by Katelyn Doyle -their chaotic meet cute had me laughing -Hope is so franticly a mess get it together girl enjoy this cruise yoloooo -Felix sounds so sweet and funny i’m blushing -this book has the perfect summer vibes -this makes me want to go on a cruise I need a trip -their convos are so smooth it feels like they’ve already known each other -this trip gave them healing, chaos and love its beautiful -stranded and one bed trope period gobble gobble 🤪 -this was a cute and fun summer read rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Felix and Hope were adorable, with just the right amount of dry humor and baggage to keep me invested. The way all the characters spoke to each other is very in line with how my friends interact, so I felt right at home.
The front half of the story was pretty standard cute-summer-fare, exploring the start of Felix and Hope's relationship while they go about cruise activities. The back half, while still on the cute side, got a lot more real than I was expecting. The last hour or so lost me a little bit because it almost felt TOO real for a summer vacation story.
I was a big fan of both narrators and found them both very easy to listen to.
Overall, this was a fun and relaxing read that touches on relationship insecurities and growth.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing me with this ALC.
It took me a little longer than I anticipated to get into this and care about the characters like I wanted to -- which surprised me, because I DEVOURED Katelyn Doyle's last book -- but once I got there, I was smitten. This wasn't an instalove situation, and the feelings behind the tension and conflict were realistic and vulnerable. Which was what was needed to balance out the setting and more ridiculous (in a good way) parts. Both the MCs grew so much, and I am sitting here after the fact feeling genuinely happy for both of them.
I received an ARC of the audio from NetGalley. At first, before I got into the characters, the narration was good but wasn't a *must* for me. Once I got into it, though, I found myself listening to the audio almost exclusively because both narrators really did a great job of bringing the characters to life once I got to know them.
Katelyn Doyle makes me feel things and makes me laugh. Definitely recommend!
Two people, Hope and Felix, meet on a cruise ship. There is almost Insta like – lust, which leads to some spicy scenes. But both Hope and Felix are dealing with personal issues that could get in the way of their relationship, which they initially just see as a shipboard fling. Hope has not gotten over a brutal break up with her last boyfriend and she has an unfulfilling job which she dislikes. Felix is two years sober, after a basically 20 year binge and struggles to keep his life totally controlled, which is the only way he feels he can maintain his sobriety. (I will say that the problems and pitfalls of maintaining sobriety are handled really well in this story. I loved that Hope took care of Felix during a crisis, even though she was mad at him.)
There is great banter throughout the book between most of the characters, especially Felix and his two sisters, Felix and Hope, and Hope and her friend Lauren. I liked that the story alternates between Felix’s and Hope’s points of view with alternating chapters so you can get to see how each character perceives events. I also like that Hope is a curvy girl and embraces it (as does Felix!)
There are a couple of things that bothered me. Hope continually refers to Felix as a “boy” as in “I met a boy”. He’s a 32 year-old man, FFS, and you’re having sex with him. This is either a writing tic by the author or an indication of Hope’s inner immaturity. Lauren really crossed the line when she posted pictures and videos of Hope and Felix on the cruise, even though she had promised Hope she wouldn’t. I will never understand the whole “influencer” thing and how people make money on it (apparently a lot of money based on Lauren’s lifestyle.) And don’t get me started on Gabe. What a manipulative, creepy asshole.
As with a lot of stories in this genre a lot of problems are caused either by a lack of communication, miscommunication, or failure to really hear what the other person is saying.
Overall this is a fun read that, although you know how it ends, takes you on an enjoyable journey, even if it is a cruise.
holy drama this was way more intense than I was expecting. I fully went into this thinking it was a light read about two lovers falling on a cruise, but it was way more emotionally complex than that. Hope is down on her luck in love and Felix is in recovery for alcoholism. When the pair have a disastrous meet cute, they decide to spent more time together as his family and her friend seem happy to go off and do their own things. These two fall hard and oh so fast, but when things happen and secrets come out, the whole thing erupts in their faces.
I really thought these characters were complex and layered and I loved that. I loved their journey and how they fell together. But the miscommunication followed by like a YEAR of no contact kinda took this down half a star for me. I do appreciate that the two of them needed to grow on their own to come back together and it was well done, even if I was crushed.
Thank you Macmillan audio for the gifted audiobook!
I loved this, maybe even more than Katelyn Doyle's (Scarlett Peckham's contemporary nom de plume) previous title!
The deal is that Felix and Hope meet on a Caribbean cruise (which they are both on under duress), and this serves as a VERY effective pressure cooker for their relationship. I loved the side characters, especially Hope's influencer bff and Felix's sisters and the ending of this one was truly a dream.
This even kind of made me want to go on a (very fancy) cruise (we are not talking Royal Caribbean here), and just to travel in general.
One thing, man I wish her books had better covers! They are not doing the writing justice. Scarlett Peckham's books have GREAT covers, let's get that designer on these!
Thank you NetGalley, Macmillan Audio and Katelyn Doyle for providing me and eaudio arc of this to review. The following will be my honest thoughts. Total Dreamboat was seriously laugh-out-loud funny! Katelyn Doyle gives us such a fun, cinematic premise: two people stuck on a cruise ship together, only to miss the ship at a port and end up stranded. Oh and the opening scene is them discovering they both missed the book all the while giving enemies vibes. Then in goes back in time to the start of the cruise when they meet! That was a fun introduction and if ever watched Holiday in the Sun with Mary-Kate and Ashley, you’ll appreciate the reference! The cruise setting was a perfect playground for some real drama—The MMC’s family is on board (love two sisters) and adds an extra layer of fun as they navigate the sparks flying between them. And can we talk about her bestie, the influencer? And her antics to snag a rich sugar daddy. All these moving parts made it feel like I was watching a movie, in the best way. The main conflict later in the book didn’t feel cheap or forced, either. It seems inconceivable when they’re falling for each other but trust. A few qualms, though… The whole “it’s casual” lie they keep telling themselves got a bit tedious after a while. Like, come on—BSFFR. And there’s a karaoke scene that I could have done without (I am firmly anti-serenade in books). Very much giving Ryan Gosling in the Barbie Movie. The biggest issue for me was the MMC, which is a bummer because he had so much going for him: a chef, British accent, reading Brontë and Dickinson—yes, please! But his whole posh “I’m not looking for anything serious” vibe was a turnoff. Maybe it’s just me being burned out on 39-year-old men on Hinge who are “not sure what they want,” but it didn’t work. Plus, his character felt a bit inconsistent—sweet and gentlemanly one moment, then weirdly jealous or distant the next. Still, the banter was top-notch, and the chemistry between the leads was undeniable. Even if I didn’t fall head over heels for the MMC, I definitely rooted for them to find their happily-ever-after. Total Dreamboat? Maybe not for me personally, but absolutely a fun escape for anyone who wants to be swept away by a rom-com at sea.
I’m just so bored! I want to scream at the FMC to stand the hell up about her ex, I want to scream at her best friend for being kind of shit, I want to scream at the MMC for being boring and uninspired, and I want to scream at the author for giving us smut by 35%.
This is a sad one for because her last book was 5 stars💔💔
Lamentablemente no cumplió ninguna. NO SENTÍ NADA. Me retiro a llorar, adiós. Que TRAGEDIA.
“It’s not healthy for you to work so hard at something you hate.”
Thank you to McMillan audio for my #gifted copy of this audiobook. It was a fun romance novel, which obviously takes place on a cruise ship.
After a bad break up, hope agrees to go with her best friend on a cruise for a fresh start. She wasn’t expecting to meet a guy that could be the man of her dreams. She also wasn’t expecting her piece of trash ex to show up on the cruise ship with his grandmother, claiming his being on the cruise was a coincidence.
After a series of unfortunate events….will Hope find her true love!?! I mean it’s a romance novel so we know how this goes.
This was a fun and lighthearted books with some great personal growth thrown in.
A fun beach read for sure.
QOTD: Have you ever been on a cruise!? Would you want to? Why or why not?
Would definitely recommend it if you're looking for an easy beach read this summer!!
Overall, 3.5 stars, definitely a cute summer beach/cruise read! Hope was a very relatable and easy to like character. Hope and Felix's relationship developed as organically as possible while stuck on a cruise ship. I loved seeing both Hope and Felix be vulnerable with each other since they had a finite amount of time on the cruise so they could really be themselves. The story was just really sweet, the friendship between Hope and Lauren, the quips between Felix and his sisters, Hope and Felix's struggles, and how both Hope and Felix really found themselves.
Format: audiobook - it was good for the most part, but I really didn't like that the narrator gave certain people like Hope's parents and boss English accents. They're from NY and VT, not England.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced audiobook!
This was a great summer listen! I just have to talk about that this was one of the best narrations I have listened too. We have dual narrators. Each narrator made the different characters come to life! I didn't confused and absolutely loved it! I also enjoyed the snippets of the daily itinerary for that day's cruise activities.
Now for the story it was great! You get all the summer vibes from the locations and food described. I thought our main characters were great. They each had a stand out personality. Hope is trying to find herself again after a crappy break up and not so great job. Felix is a recovering addict trying to have a great trip with his family. They both find each other enjoyable and turn into a fling. However, once Hope's ex shows up on the ship they encounter some bumpy waters.
Thank you @macmillan.audio for the gifted audiobook!
This was such a fun summer read. I’m usually allergic to insta-love, but in this very close / forced proximity cruise ship setting it just worked. The banter between the FMC and the MMC and also the MMC and his sisters had me cackling. I love smart asses, and everyone here was very into putting their people down with cutting remarks. Lovingly, of course. The audiobook narrators were fantastic too. Some of the plot points weren’t my favorite (ex boyfriend and the way they parted after the trip) but overall giving this one a solid 4 stars. Had a good time.
This book was everything I needed it to be! I’ve found myself in a book slump - where nothing was hitting - and I was hoping to read/listen to something genuine that made me really feel something. Mission accomplished. This one made me feel ALL the things. And genuinely had me giggling out loud!
Total Dreamboat gave me actual butterflies throughout this book thanks to the banter and sharing of feelings between Felix and Hope. 🥰 They were absolutely adorable!!!! The spark between the two main characters really was palpable and felt so authentic. I just ate this Total Dreamboat up. Which, as I said, was the exact thing I desired. I just wanted a book to feel giddy about and to get lost in and this ABSOLUTELY delivered!!!
Another thing I loved? Any type of drama and/or third act breakup within felt deserved and realistic. The dialogue didn’t feel forced and each character voice felt unique. (Aside from the 👯♀️ which they were meant to feel homogeneous, I’m sure.) Speaking of the girls — I LOVED the relationships between Felix and his sisters. Their back-and-forth quips were some of the funniest parts of the book!!! (I’d sincerely love more books in this world to do with the sisters!)
I was so fortunate to listen to the ALC of Total Dreamboat thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio in exchange for my thoughts. Kelli Tager and Russ Bain co-narrated it and my gosh… they were PERFECTION. Kelli brought so much emotion (the full range) to this role and had me tearing up and/or crying several times. She’s really good at evoking strong emotions. Russ brought so much charm and character to Felix. I couldn’t imagine having experienced this book without them!
A million thank you’s to Macmillan Audio 👏🏽 and to Katelyn Doyle for this absolute banger of a book. 🫶🏼

Total Dreamboat by Katelyn Doyle
About the book 👇🏽
Hope Lanover needs a vacation. Her relationship has imploded, her creative ambitions have flatlined, and she can't seem to locate the badass girl she used to be. So when her best friend invites her on a luxury cruise, she goes along with it, despite decidedly not being a cruise person.
Felix Segrave, a sober, determinedly single, workaholic chef, hates leaving his restaurant and routine. But when his parents surprise him and his sisters with cruise tickets, he can't say no - he's disappointed them too many times in his troubled past.
Hope and Felix are prepared to grin and bear it . . . until they lock eyes at check in. Suddenly, a ten-day fling in the Caribbean with a sexy stranger doesn't seem so bad.
🌊My thoughts:
Another five star read from Katelyn Doyle! After reading Just Some Stupid Love Story, I knew Doyle would be on my auto buy list. It was fun and spicy and everything I look for in a summer read. But the best part was that this has some depth and complexity while also hitting on some topics I don’t typically read about. I honestly can’t remember a book that intentionally mentioned a sober main character, and that was something that really stood out to me. Plus The back and forth between Hope and Felix had me giggling and just couldn’t help but love their relationship! If you are looking to squeeze in another hot romance before autumn, this is the one you’ll want to binge!
I had the chance to listen to Total Dreamboat while on vacation…on a cruise, no less, and I have to say, the timing could not have been better. When I read the description, I grabbed it right away, hoping it would boost the vacation vibes. Guess what? It totally delivered.
This audiobook was narrated by Kelli Tager and Russ Bain, and they brought just the right amount of charm and personality to the story. I’m a big fan of dual narration for romance audiobooks and this one worked especially well. It added a nice back-and-forth rhythm that made Hope and Felix feel all the more real.
The story itself is light, a little quirky, and absolutely made for vacation reading. Sure, the romance moves fast, but sometimes you just have to go along for the ride. I let myself enjoy the breezy, romantic chaos of it all and it made for a fun escape.
If I had one small complaint, it would be that some of the language in the spicier scenes pulled me out of the moment. There are definitely more creative ways to talk about female parts, but that could just be a personal preference.
Overall, this was a fun little Caribbean romp that fit perfectly with my vacation theme of feel-good romance. It was kitschy in the best way, just like cruises tend to be, and that’s exactly why we love them. Because really, what’s better than listening to a cruise romance on a cruise?
Big thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
