When I first started Owned, I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I thought it would go a total different direction than it had, but holy hotness! I’m glad the story-line went the way it did. I love books like that. I love the ones that make you question everything you’ve learned in life, only to build you back up again. And can I just say … Kayne is one hot character! From the moment I first read about him, I was captivated. There was just something about him that piqued my interest, and I couldn’t wait to find out more about him. Yes, he’s dominating. Yes, he’s secretive. And yes, he definitely knows how to make your toes curl with his dirty mouth. But underneath all that, there’s more to him. That’s another reason why I loved Owned. There’s way more to the story than just sex. It’s about two people (mainly one) doing whatever’s necessary to keep the other one safe. Yes, there is a lot of sex in this one, but I felt like it’s needed. You’ll understand why I say that if you decide to pick this one up. Kayne is just that character that needs sex to show how he feels, even if it sounds like he’s after one thing from Elle.
So, Elle … I’ll admit, sometimes she was a hard character to like. In the beginning I liked her a lot. She was outgoing, carefree, and was working to reach her goals. I feel conflicted about her, because while I understand she was taken and thrown into a new life and her reactions to that were rational, I felt like I wanted to shake her at times. I think it’s because I loved Kayne so much that I just wanted her to get over it and love him. (LOL) But then again, there wouldn’t be much to Kayne and Ellie’s story if she hadn’t acted the way she did. Elle changes Kayne, and throughout the story, I saw that. This is definitely a book where you have to read the whole book and sort of between the lines. Not everything is in black and white with this one, and not to mention those twists! I can say Owned kept my attention from the first page until the last. M. Never sure does know how to write romance, and I cannot wait to see what’s to come with the second book. I would highly recommend checking this one out.

On the book's page it says that it's dark erotica and that there is mild abuse. Which is not accurate. The heroine is abducted and raped ever day for 3 weeks. I wouldn't call that "mild". Just want to put this out there.

The storyline was ok, nothing new really. What saved this book from being just another M/s story, was the writing. Which was pretty good. The whole background story was a bit weak. The ending was just another cliche. This book reminded me a lot of Escaping Paradise.

The reason I'm giving it 3 starts is the writing, the relationship between the hero and his friend, and the moments between our two MCs, where there were no violence. Although the heroine's character developed nicely throughout the story, I'm not sure what to make of them as a couple.

It didn't left me wanting to read the next installment in the series, but I might try some other books by this author.

Kayne is a client of the company Ellie works for. He has been obsessed with Ellie for over a year and when Ellie saw a chance to be with him, she took it. They both attended one of the company’s party and they both got out of there with each other but the next day Ellie wakes up in a locked cage. Something you should know about Kayne:

"I like to dominate. I want submission. I’ll tie you up and have my way with you until you beg me to stop."

Well, I really was enjoying the story but the sex scenes were too much for my taste. And I liked Ellie be a bit stronger! But the ending was definitely a surprise/unexpected to me! I liked Kayne but I didn’t like how he treated Ellie, maybe if he would have talked to Ellie from the first he wouldn’t be frustrated at the end! Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s the first installment in the "Decadence After Dark" series and ends on a cliffhanger, a huge one. Overall, it was a good read and hope you like it as well!

Another shitty abusive erotica that pretty much vilifies BDSM.

It's books like this that make people who enjoy/participate in BDSM out to be terrible, abusive people when they're not.

It's books like this that make sexual acts of any nature other than "vanilla" out to be wrong and destructive and abusive.

It's books like this that justify the horrible treatment of women on the simple fact that "he's hot and rich so let's have him do whatever he wants".

description

“Keep those fucking legs open. And no talking. Unless you’re asking permission to come.” I grit my teeth. The Dom is never far. It’s a ramification of this life.

Normal, kinky scene right? WRONG. He says this while he's having sex with her not MOMENTS after she's been nearly sexually assaulted by another man. A guy that's been repeatedly emotionally and physically abusing her behind Kayne's back. Vomit.

Then there's the whole "it's a ramification of this life" bullshit. This is not BDSM and this is NOT a good representation of it from what I can tell. Partner consent and safety is a huge factor in this scene mostly because you can cause some serious, sometimes long term, physical and psychological damage if you're not careful. There's a reason why there's things like after care, talking about your hard NO's, and SAFTEY WORD. But none of this is mentioned, despite being a book about a guy unable to find a "compatible partner" INSIDE the BDSM scene so he's forced to finding victims OUTSIDE the scene to get his fix. Like there's so much mention of it and literally nothing that represents accurately or just WELL it at all.

Like, YEAH NO SHIT HE CAN'T FIND ANYONE, he hasn't once mentioned a safe word or even said anything along the lines of "if it's too much i'll stop" or "if you say no, it's no".

And Kayne.... good god KAYNE, the MALE LEAD, of this story just reeks of "where's my hug" and "I'm just a good guy, I don't understand why women don't like me" vibes. I'm sure the BTK Killer also thought he couldn't "sate his urges" in a healthy way either... cause he wasn't healthy to begin with, he was a psychotic killer.

It's dark, oh yes for sure. In a nonsense, silly, over the top sort of way. The dark aspects of the book are so over done and out of no where that I honestly didn't know what to do most of the book. Nothing is taken seriously and nothing is looked back on. Things happen and they move on. There's literally NO self reflection at all throughout the book.

This is even worse when the hero is played as the "good guy" WHEN HE SHOULDN'T BE. THAT'S THE POINT OF A DARK ROMANCE.

Ellie is kidnapped, beaten and sexual abused for days. Yet the author tries to twist everything into making the hero, "Kayne", out as someone who simply enjoys BDSM, "forced" to go outside the box and kidnap his potential sex partners, and would "never rape a woman".

Oh, but kidnapping and sexually abusing them for days- if not weeks- is "ok"?!??! That's not sexual assault???

description

On top of all that it felt like the whole thing was just smut. Nothing was taken seriously and there are immature moments sprinkled throughout the book. Which, honestly, only makes the abuse and torture done to Ellie that much WORSE. Why? Because it's telling me that the author doesn't take this subject matter seriously. That for her this is all just one big depraved fantasy of hers. There's no real emotional or internal strife going on in this book for me to even really care about it.

AND THAT'S WHY I READ DARK ROMANCES: The moral strife.

The fact that despite all the terrible shit that's happening and how bad a person the male lead is, for some reason the female ends up with him. And it's not just "oh lol guess I like you even though you're a piece of shit or BECAUSE you're such a bad person" for me; it's the STRUGGLE the hero/heroine goes through trying to figure out why. Does liking him make HER a bad person? Does liking the horrible things he does to her or the people around her reflect on HER as a person? It's the struggle both emotionally and morally to come to terms with all of those things and still being like "you know what yeah probably, idc, i love him". And with 237 pages there should be some sort of reflection or tension going on in the female/male lead and there isn't. Ever.

And if it's JUST SMUT why are you trying so hard to justify certain shit when you just... don't need to???

He's just like "im going to do this horrible thing to you" and she's like "yep, ok" and it happens but then the author is like "WAIT WAIT IT'S OK BECAUSE HE'S DOING IT FOR REASONS! CAUSE HE'S A GOOD GUY ACTUALLY!".

Dark romances generally don't try so hard to justify abusive behavior and make the anti-hero/villain out to be the good guy. They don't make him out to be some unsung hero. The writing and plot are also not anywhere near smart enough to pull the "oh this is his point of view so of course he'd think he was the good guy".

Overall, it's just smut. Smut with a very dark edge to it. I mean, the smut isn't even that good either. It's just one big heaping pile of NO. Fantasy is all well and good but when you don't clearly draw a line between fun, mindless fantasy it can- and does- end up bad and this is a prime example.

I was so annoyed by how BDSM was portrayed in this I felt the need to look up a bunch of stuff and research it myself and literally everything that is done is and can only be interpreted as ABUSE and MANIPULATION yet all of it was neatly packaged as if the love interest in this story is the good guy "unfortunately forced to think outside the box to sate his uncontrollable urges". Yeah, right, he's looking outside the BDSM scene for someone vanilla because he's probably burned himself with any BDSM partners in his area because it gets around those communities that you're abusive. They've probably done the equivalent of shadow-banning him (if that's even a thing lol) in any of the known BDSM meet up spots.

Honestly, I would've been fine with all this if it hadn't been so very clearly tied to a very real kink scene that already has problems with abuse and manipulation from ignorant, manipulative people.... if the author had just... idk... made him a piece of shit that knew he was a piece of shit and purposely went after people to get his "fix". Tying it to BDSM, while making him do everything that is very clearly NOT supposed to be done in the BDSM scene was just annoying to me. Throwing in this arrogance that he's "actually a good guy" and he's "doing this for their own good" just ruins it completely for me.

It's the equivalent of saying "im a doctor" and doing everything a doctor clearly doesn't do and then justifying WHY he's not doing the things a doctor would do. Why even make him a doctor in the first place? This story would've worked WAY BETTER as a serial killer dark romance. Kayne does everything in his power to

So there's no real romance, no emotional or internal strife, the smut isn't that good, the heroine is being routinely abused, and the hero is a piece of shit with no likable qualities and is justified in all his shitty actions.

This isn't a dark romance. It's not even a romance. Hell, it's not even a good BOOK. I only have one thing to say: DO NOT READ.

Having just completed this book, I find myself going back and forth over whether or not I liked it and just how I should rate it. I think I'll go with 3 1/2 stars. I definitely wasn't over the moon for this book, but I am still curious to see how things work out for Ellie and Kayne. Halfway through this book, I wouldn't have imagined I'd care one way or another about what the future had in store for these two. So, the fact that I want to know more says something. Right?

The story starts off with minimal character development before Ellie is abducted. Essentially, what we know is that she is infatuated with the rich and sexy Kayne. They have one date. He runs into the mysterious creeper, Javier, during their date. Next thing you know, Kayne is drugging and kidnapping her. All the while, his inner-monologue is apologizing for his actions.

Soon, it becomes apparent that Kayne is mixed up in some illegal business ventures. Drugs, prostitution, etc. You want to write him off as a scumbag, but there's that damn inner-monologue in the background nagging at you and hinting that maybe something else is going on.

As expected, Ellie is "trained" to be his sex slave, his "kitten". Think of a watered down, less dark, version of 'Tears of Tess' and you'll get the gist of things. It turns out, Ellie is a fast study and doesn't put up much of a fight. (Honestly, I think I had to put more work into wrestling a toy away from my toddler at the store the other day than Kayne did to get Ellie to submit. Seriously, Ellie could take a lesson or two in raising hell from my 3 year-old!)

Meanwhile, Kayne's side-kick/accomplish, Jett, serves as the maid/confidant to Ellie. He talks up Kayne's hidden positive attributes, offers sympathy...but not too much, and readies Ellie for her nightly visits by Kayne. I guess if I had to draw a comparison to his character, it would be Catherine in 'Consequences'. You know, the enabler that feels so bad for Ellie, but is never going to lift a hand to help her.

I spent the first half of the book, probably more, despising Kayne, rolling my eyes at Jett's duplicity and holding out a small hope that Ellie would get a chance to stick it to Kayne. It continued to become more apparent that Kayne did have feelings for Ellie, but I still wasn't ready to excuse his actions, regardless of any good intentions that were alluded to.

In an unusual twist, Kayne decides he's going to try and be more considerate of Ellie's emotional needs. A safe-word is implemented. I don't even know what to say about that, but it definitely made me reread that sentence a few times with a chuckle. WTF? Seriously, you kind of missed the boat on the whole "consensual" thing when you KIDNAPPED her, Kayne! Exactly how did he envision that going? I kept waiting for something like: "Cupcake. Um, I'm not feeling very comfortable with this whole captivity situation. I think I'd like to go home now."

To top it off, he seems to be the only one that needed a safe-word. It seemed like every time I turned the page he was saying it again. It was like somebody flipped a switch and the callous ass that he was for the first 3/4 of the book was replaced with some overly sensitive guy. My thoughts went something like: "You're the kidnapper/Dom/A-hole that caused this screwed up situation! You DO NOT get to safe-word!"

Then, in the final chapters, Kayne began to grow on me. I know, I'm such a sucker. The big secret comes out and although it was pretty predictable, I still found myself torn over how I feel about his actions and the reasons driving his decisions. Again, I'm a sucker.

Now, I'm dying to know what will happen between the two. I'm sure I can predict where it's going, but I want to read more just the same.

I'm on the fence with this one. Not a must-read, but now that I've started it I feel compelled to see it through, so not bad either.

I read this a long time ago, but this book still stands out, and not in a good way.

There is kidnapping, rape, and abuse and it’s masqueraded as romance. There is no love in this story. It’s sick and twisted and disturbing.

The hero kidnaps the heroine to “save” her from another bad guy. But then he puts her in a cage. Once she’s sufficiently waxed and given her birth control, he then sexually assaults her. She develops Stockholm syndrome and falls in love with him. He’s also supposedly in love with her. He keeps her in his brothel.

But all that isn’t even the most ridiculous part of the story. He and his brothel co-owner are actually undercover cops and all of this was to catch some bad guys. WTF???

So an undercover cop kidnaps and rapes a girl to catch some bad guys? A girl that isn’t even known to the bad guys? Literally one bad guy laid eyes on her one night, and the cop immediately kidnaps her. Makes no sense.

This book really pissed me off!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.25 Stars!! (I pushed it to 5-Stars even against my rules of having spelling & grammar errors)

‘A certain kind of darkness is needed to see the stars.’ ~Kayne, a quote written across his ribcage

A full-fledged captive romance novel with a twist!

collared

PROS:

🔥 - Love me a well thought out captive BDSM novel!

🔥 - Kayne = HOT ALPHA MALE!

🔥 - Even though it is a series, there is a twist at the end and I felt satisfied reading the entire novel and still looked forward to reading the next one in the series. So this is not a ripping cliffhanger, thank the book gods for that!

🔥 - The reader can feel the breakdown of Ellie which shows the skill of the author within BDSM novels. Not an easy feat.

🔥 - Steamy, hot sex scenes

CONS:

☠️ - Unfortunately, there was spelling and a grammatical error which make me cringe, as always

BOTTOM LINE:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - READ IT!! If you're looking for a great captive romance with steamy sex scenes and a great alpha male character, look no further. I highly recommend!

Unfortunately, I am fairly ambiguous in my feelings about Owned. The story was neither good nor bad but somewhere in between. I had a few issues with the story that caused me not to thoroughly enjoy it. First, the story could use a rigorous edit because it contained more than a few (and could be overlooked) instances of dropped words or incorrect substitutions of a word (i.e. breath and breathe). The editing aside, I also had issues with the story itself. I will be the first to admit that I am not a fan of dark erotic romance; however, I have read and enjoyed a few. I know that there are very few original concepts in fiction. Ideas have been done and overdone by authors. Yet, I felt that Owned was too closely reminiscent of the Dark Duet series by C.J. Roberts. It almost felt fanficted. And the use of "mercurial" when the young innocent described the rich dominant was too a la Fifty Shades of Grey. The story was not cut and pasted so that is a plus but still too close for it to stand ahead of the "pack". Even setting those issues aside, my major issue was with how Ellie came to be in Kayne's servitude. The way he acquired her was just...unreal...is the only way I can explain it. I will not ruin the "how" by providing spoilers but I would have hoped that someone with Kayne's expertise could have found a better way to look out for Ellie other than the way he did. It almost seemed as if he took advantage of her because of a horrible sequence of events. And Ellie. ..*sigh*...frankly she just acquiesced too easily to Kayne's demands. Not just acquiesced but enjoyed and eagerly participated in them. Kayne basically stole her life and made her a human pet. That wouldn't exactly inspire thoughts of loving. And yes, I understand that this story was fiction so the author has free creative reign. All I'm suggesting is that Ellie could have put up more fight. For all she knew, she would never live her life or see her family again. A few moments of subdued stubbornness was all she offered. And the cliffhanger ending, in addition to all of my other issue with the story, didn't help. I am not chomping at the bit for the second book in the series; however, I will read it at some point.

Mmmm steamy and yet...

The hot factor in this book is insane. Kayne is deliciously dominant, and boy does he bring it in the bedroom. The book is mostly sex, but there's enough of a plot that you're interested in what's going on. It would've been a five star rating for me but for two things, and both happened at the very end. One: Kayne went all touchy feely crybaby--you're a Dom; act like it. Just because you fall in love does not mean you lose your balls. Two: I abhor loose ends. We don't really find out what happens with Kayne and Ellie. There's no mention of a sequel, and quite frankly, it doesn't need one. Two more chapters and everything could be wrapped up and explained. Instead it just ended, and I was left with a WTH moment, feeling like I invested in these characters and then nothing. Annoying.

4.5 So Wrong, but So Right Stars!

For the awhile there I've been in such a book funk! So I wasn't expecting much when my friends recommended this to me. But oh boy was I was wrong. This story had everything I was looking for. Romance, intrigue, suspense, hot alpha male, steamy sex scenes, lovable heroine. I want to pause real life and devour this entire series!

This book is so much better when you go into blind. Kayne and Ellie's chemistry is so explosive it burns through the pages. The ending definitely took me by surprise and I'm so excited to start the other books.

This is my first by M. Never and now I'm fan!

From the blurb:

Owned is a dark erotic romance. Please pay close attention to the use of the words dark, erotic, and romance.

I mean wow, I'm so glad someone is here to tell me how to read book synopses. I don't know what I would do without someone holding my hand and telling me which words to read. I never learned this mysterious skill in all my 30-odd years. THANK YOU SO MUCH. /s

ARC received for review

That first sentence sucks you in...."I like you collared, baby. I like you naked, I like you mine.”

It was dark, but not as gritty and dirty as some I've read. I think because Kayne was already in love with Ellie before he took her. I was not expecting all that to go down with nasty Javier. Love a good suspense thrown into the mix. His BFF Jett was absolutely amazing. I want him to have a story.

Why did no one warn me there was a cliffy? I'm glad the rest of this series is already out. Off to book 2.

In a world where criminals know money is made when it is sanitized to appear as a legitimate business, there are always a few words people should know. Import/Export business generally denotes a criminal element especially if the people for the company don't share much about how they generate profit. Whenever I see import/export I think of recreational pharmaceutical, weapons and human trafficking. My how our society changes to make the impalpable sexy and mysterious. Drugs, guns and sexual slavery are all common commodities of death dealers. Unfortunately for naïve Ellie, she makes the mistake of catching the eye of a sexually dominant criminal, Kayne Roberts.

The characters in this story are fine if a bit forgettable. Ellie does not make a lasting impression nor does Kayne. Oddly, for me, the secondary character, Kayne's side kick is more memorable even if I can't remember his name. It is perhaps because he tended to play the good guy to Kayne's bad guy which makes him more attractive for me. Kayne doesn't do much for me. It is stated several times that he is asexual dominant. Whilst I can agree he does some toppy BDSM things, he didn't impress me as a dominant I would submit to. I can't quite put my finger on it, but for me, he's just an average dominant with the benefit of money to allow a fancy home and nice toys. Kayne does not make me weak in the knees and wanting to be taken by him. I loathe to admit this, but I think I would be just as bratty as Ellie to Kayne. I do not like being a brat but for Kayne, I just might exhibit those traits.

For those looking for a dark bdsm kidnapping fantasy, this is the story for you. Ellie is roofied, kidnapped and enslaved. Whilst the treatment is rough at times, it is still gently balanced with aftercare. Even if the author M. Never doesn't call it aftercare. From a BDSM fantasy rating, this is a medium in darkness. The scenes are more or less possible. Many do run the risk of permanent damage. Still, none are as heavy as some of the SM lifestylers I know in real life. This allows most erotic readers to become guilty aroused with the capture fantasy.

From a plot perspective, there are a few twists. None of them are surprises. Because of the way the story is written with alternating point of views, it is easy to guess what will happen as well figure out the subterfuge early on. The story does keep a steady sexual tension as well as dangerous suspense. If this story was told only from Ellie's perspective, it would have made the story more surprising and dark. This dark erotica is recommended for kinky readers looking for a good capture enslavement fantasy.

Shit. I.just wow. I'm struggling for words after that. So this was me yesterday:
Self, we have a lot of books that need read before the beginning of October.
Selfie, you're right. Let's read Owned it sounds good.
Self, good call

After reading. Holy shitballs. That can't be the end. No. No. No. No. No. That can't. Wait, he's. What!! And Jett!! I just. Wait, what!?!? Why isn't the page turning. Why isn't there more. Whyyyyyyy? I need therapy after that book. No, no, I need to read that again.

Good god. The leash. The collar. His. The.. Oh dear.

"I like you collared baby. I like you naked. I like you mine."

Whew. See. Ovaries. Explode. Ellie start off as this person with an infatuation of a client. It's a mutual infatuation she doesn't know about. But when Kayne has to kidnap her and make her his slave, it opens up a whole new world to both of them. He opens up something in her she didn't know she was craving or needing and she opens up feelings in him he doesn't think he deserves. And the reason he thinks this way will blow your mind. A Big Bang.

I love so much about this book. Ellie starts off as this defiant little thing who refuses to submit- mind, body or obediently. But then as they're relationship grows you get to see more and more of her wanting to obey and submit and how she craves it. Then you see how her doing that, how much it means to him. Something he didn't know he wanted or needed or would even like. They both become so vital to the other person, not only sexually but emotionally. And can I just say cupcake is perfect.

Then we have the angst and drama with Javier. He is the perfect villain for this story. Everything he does and about him screams asshole and abuser. While I hated Javier, I absolutely loved Jett. I think he's the perfect right hand man to Kayne and friend to Ellie. He's a perfect asset to the house, the girls, and the story. The build up through this story is intense. You get little snippets and clues here and there that something else is going on. Something outside of what you can see. Some sidelined secret and once it came out, I was floored. I mean. Totally not what I expected. And definitely not how I expected it to go down. But the end. Then end!?!? I kept trying to turn the page. No. It can't end like this, Can it? There will be more, right. Right!?!? Please ??? Oh god. I'll cry if I have to. Bed. Plead. But give me more!!

The chemistry between Ellie and Kayne is off the charts when he’s in the conference room, but what about when she’s tied to his bed and unable to escape?

So I was pretty much sold with that open line in the blurb and Dark, Romance and oh, yeah Erotic.... I needed something a bit darker, more suspenseful and Owned delivered. But just like Kayne says, not everything is as it seems.

This was my first M. Never book and although I found some fault with reasons behind Kayne’s actions, I still really enjoyed the book. I understood his behaviors during the story and was expecting by the end of the book we’d be left with one helluva cliffhanger.

This is not a typical romance and like the blurb mentions there are some aspects of the story that might not be appealing to all, but I think if you are a fan of dark romances or even romances that balance on the edge, this is worth the read.

I am excited to see what happens with Ellie and Kayne in Claimed and just how hard he is going to have to work for it.

3.5 Cupcake Stars!
Kane and Ellie have been secretly fantasizing about each other for a year. Ellie thinks Kane never notices her. She couldn't be more wrong.
“The next time you want to get my attention. Bend over. Your tits are nice, but I’m more of an ass man.” -Kane
Ellie and Kane meet up at a party. Ellie had one thing on her mind entering the party. She was going to seduce Kane. The dress she wore did its job. She was right where she wanted to be. In Kane's arms and ready to go home with him.

Bad news walks in to visit Kane and before you know it Kane has claimed Ellie as HIS! Vowing to keep her safe from everyone except himself.
After a heated kiss in the Limo Ellie then wakes up in a cage.
This is hard for Ellie to understand. She hates Kane for kidnapping her and refuses to submit to him. He keeps her caged, cold, starving and doesn't let her sleep until she finally submits to his command.

I slide it around her neck and lock it in place. I yank her forward by it and give her a kiss. “I like you collared, baby. I like you naked. I like you mine.”

Kane is a very sexy dominant man. He will and does anything and everything to make Ellie submit to him. Whew!!!!! Many times Ellie was unable to walk the next day. lol Me...I was fanning myself and drinking heavily! lol

“All night, Ellie. I’m going to alternate fucking you like this all night,” he murmurs in my ear as he buries himself to the hilt. “And I’m not going to stop until my dick is limp and my come runs dry.”

I didn't really believe the whole kidnapping story. It was kind of silly. But hey this is fiction right? AND the sex was smoking hot so I kept reading! Haha!
Through the whole book you get little vibes that something is going on behind the scene.
After a month of being with Kane there is a party that ends with a bang! Which leaves you wanting book 2 in a hurry! I will be waiting impatiently for it!
P.S
I LOVED Jett (Kane's best friend)
"Well aren’t you just my fairy fucking godfather in heinously ugly skinny jeans.” -Kane

2.5 disappointed stars! If the entire story read the way the first two chapters did this story would have been a home fucking run for me because I loved the first two chapters. I laughed and smirked. The story quickly fell apart for me when Kayne kidnaps Ellie. I mean, don't give the protection bull shit lie because it doesn't work for me, Kayne.

At the end of the book there's a moment of clarity and Kayne is shown for who he really is and I was slack jawed for a few minutes. I didn't expect that, like ever. Kayne struggled with what he delighted in, what Ellie needed and didn't like, and his own need for Ellie. He was really fucked the fuck up in short.

Ellie struggled with the lifestyle change Kayne forced upon her. BDSM isn't an easy change when you didn't even get a choice in the matter. I felt for her because orgasms are lovely and all but not having a choice and being kidnapped sucks. Ellie continued to struggle with her feelings towards Kayne because she didn't want to like anything he did or his gentleness because their situation was one fucked up one.

I don't mind darker stories because the best stories involve some darkness. What really bothered me about this story was that it was a mess. I don't know, I felt like it was just a big mess and the end was like a "what the fuck did I just read" moment for me. I might end up reading the second book hoping it fixes the things I hated about the book after the first two chapters. I went into this book thinking I was going to get something like Ricochet and got something I can't even compare to, not in a good way.

I loved this book! Let me back up. I started reading it and was immediately worried that the writing style may be a bit light, almost like reading a teenage love story. So wrong. Repeat, I was so wrong! The story and writing picked up immediately and went from a cutesy read to a sizzling hot story in a matter of a few pages.

So I am not going to tell you too much about the story except to say it is a capture fantasy that sizzles. What I enjoyed is that it was dark without losing its erotic feel. (Meaning the master/slave dynamic was perfect for me.) Those of you who read dark romance books probably like your stories a certain shade of dark. For me I like when the girl is submissive, but doesn't lose her spunk. This book was perfect in that regard. I also like stories where there is no doubt that the master is in charge...no doubt here. This story had WONDERFUL bondage scenes and hot sex throughout. It also has some creative power scenes that really pushed my hot-o-meter to high. Some authors have the ability to really put you (the reader) right in the story and feel what the characters are experiencing. That was certainly true in this story. I felt the humiliation, the dom/sub relationship, the sexual energy, the pain and the love throughout the story. In short, the book balanced BDSM with a love story that worked.

This is set up as a series, but there was a logical conclusion to book one. I will definitely be waiting aggressively for book two :D This story gets 2 thumbs up and 1 pair of panties down.

This was right up my street! Captive stories are my favourite kind of dark romance, my twisted brain just loves them. I wanted a smutty captive story and this one hit all my buttons, I'd definitely recommend.

Often with stories like these, the main character is too stupid to live and has no self preservation instinct at all. Thankfully Ellie was not like that, I really liked her. She struggled with her feelings throughout the book, she remained a fighter and sassy until the end yet she still submitted which I enjoyed. My heart did break for her at the end of the book though, I could really feel her betrayal and confusion.

Kayne, oh Kayne. I just loved him. He could take me any day. He's everything I like in a master; firm and domineering yet very protective and loving. I really enjoy slavery stories where the master isn't a total psycho and I can actually root for him. With dark romances like these it's so easy to make him an evil bastard but luckily Kayne was the firm but loving kind of Dom I like. He was a little sadistic too which definitely pushed the right buttons for me.

Overall I really enjoyed this, it was a fun and sexy read and I really bought into Kayne and Ellie's relationship. The entire book was full of smutty, kinky fun so if you like plenty of kink with your dark romance, this is for you.

This book was exceptionally good. I love when the characters are described in a way in which I can actually picture them. Each scene was detailed enough that I felt like a voyeur. I was a little bit bothered by Ellie's defiance. I guess it confused me because she kept denying that she was submissive but that's exactly how she was described. Nothing about her behaviour prior to or during her interactions with Kayne hinted at a dominant personality. I understand not accepting or wanting the hand that was dealt to her, I just believe she could have fought against it in another way.

I knew it!! I knew Kayne was hiding something. I had a strong inkling that he was an undercover good guy. I appreciate getting his POV because I would fail to realize how wonderful he truly was if his character had to rely solely on how Ellie perceived him. I feel really bad for him in the end. I hope Ellie quickly realizes how unappreciative she has been in the next book.

Anyway, these two love each other so I hope book 2 has more romance.

" A certain kind of darkness is needed to see the stars"

This quickly became one of my most favorite reads. I loved it.

I can't begin to put into words how much I enjoyed Kayne and Ellie, but I will say that this book was made for me. Truly there's not one thing I didn't love about this book.

I don't know why everyone is not reading it, but I feel this is a must read. I never rec books, but I'm telling you, I think your missing out if you past this by.

3.5 stars ! The story wasn't something that we've never read before but I loved the authors writing style . The interactions between Jett and Kayne were hilarious . Their bond really unshakable . I also liked how Kayne and Ellie's relationship developed through out the story . It was interesting to say Ellie struggle with a tug of war about how she felt about the things that were happening to her . The ending was ..... Off to read book 2 .. enough said !

Warning!
For those who suffer with heart, I honestly do not recommend 😬.A book that intrigued me. I wanted to quit the book at one point, but the author kept me so upset that I was curious about the fate of the female character. I guessed the end and I waited for it. I really did not want the male character so bad.
I want to continue with the second volume.
I recommend it only to those who are accustomed to reading such books because they are dealing with a rough subject.

I liked this book but I didn't love it. It is a great storyline with a huge unexpected twist that caught me completely off guard! I am certain that I would have enjoyed this book a great deal more if we'd been told more about what the characters were thinking. In particular, I felt that the author gave us VERY little insight into the female MC Ellie's thoughts. We do read about some of Ellie's thoughts yet there was so much lacking. I constantly found myself wondering what Ellie was thinking: What does Ellie think about when she is alone? How does she feel?? Had this and other details been provided, I am certain that the characters would've been much more believable. If there had been more detail I think I also would've felt more compassion for Ellie and might have felt more connected to her. Actually, the same applies to all of the characters in this book. Nevertheless, I am curious enough about what happens after the HORRIBLE CLIFFHANGER so I am reading on!
