There are two-sides to every Chocolate Box girl's story . . . Curl up with a hot chocolate and read this gorgeous short story, sure to delight every fan of Cathy Cassidy's Chocolate Box Girls series!
I was born in 1962 in Coventry (scarily ancient, I know). I wrote my first picture book for my little brother when I was eight or nine. I loved making comics, too - pages and pages of picture stories, features and competitions.
I went to Art College in Liverpool, then got a job as fiction editor on the fab and legendary Jackie magazine.
I have worked as agony aunt on Shout magazine and also as an art teacher in the local primary & secondary schools, as well as as a freelance illustrator. These days, I am a full-time author.
I love my family, I love living in the middle of nowhere and I love my work. Of all my jobs, writing has to be the best - it's the perfect excuse to daydream, after all!
This was a little different and I liked that it wasn't the typical rose-tinted teenage romance all the other Chocolate Box sisters seem to be experiencing. I also enjoyed the little Halloween twist, but all in all I didn't care ALL THAT MUCH about Jamie's feelings... probably because he was never really fleshed out as a character in the other books? Not sure.
Certainly not bad but not as enjoyable as the other Chocolate Box short stories IMO.
I find the unfolding "too bad" in the sense that this story follows the end in cliffhanger of book 2 about Skye. So in this one we find Finch, Skye’s boyfriend. I’m not going to say it was as cool as the other off-series, it didn’t make me hot or cold. The only positive is a potential opportunity for the Tanberry family to host another shoot. Otherwise it’s just about being faithful and honest with yourself as much as with each other in any relationship. Skye and Finch are saying things to each other with an open heart, after taking the lead for nothing.
The result of the test at the end of the book: this time it’s largely Cherry and not a tie between her and Skye! I’m starting to be borderline disappointed that I don’t have more novels focused on her alone. Except the first of course. The other sisters have almost two novels each!

Moments that I enjoyed was the return of the supernatural and the fantastic but mysterious past.
However, all other aspects fell apart and some infuriated and annoyed me. Jamie did not need to have an affair for him to end things with Skye, it natural for relationships to lose sparks after understanding each other better. Skye and Jamie's relationship was really rushed in Marshmallow Skye so it is understandable that they would face the most difficulty in their relationship. Nevertheless, it is absolutely unnecessary to introduce Ellie and try to explain cheating in any way. Ellie is not really likeable either and it made me feel very upset for Skye at first until Cassidy pulled the "I am feeling the same way" trope and forced everything to be okay. It was rushed and messy and unsatisfying. The plot is interesting initially but could have been done much better if the characters were more flushed out and Skye was 'allowed' to feel heart-broken. She dreamed countless nights about this boy and it was magical and so convincing but at last minute the dreams were de-merited and all super magic was deemed stupid and error inducing.
This short book is massively insulting to Marshmallow Skye which is such a sweet and good book. I will probably forget Jamie and Ellie very quickly but Skye's original story was amazing. Also, Cassidy tries to set up Skye with someone else but we never get to know who he is ever. Not even in the final books for the series. It is as if Cassidy has forgotten about him like she hoped we would too.

Mmm yea honestly this book ruined Finch's image for me, with him cheating and lying instead of ended things with Skye first. Also there are things still left unexplained here

An unusual direction for this story to go in but I'm happy that Finch tried this hardest not to hurt Skye and that they can both be happier in the end.
This wasn’t all that great if I’m completely honest.
There were some sweet things (pun intended) but overall it’s just about Finch being way too dramatic and being completely miserable over a summer fling with Skye and being so over the top and not telling her that he doesn’t want to be with her. It also added nothing to the story of the Chocolate Box Girls.
I should really stop reading the short stories and novellas to series, they hardly ever contribute anything useful to it.
