Molly Maddison grew up in a funeral home that unfortunately backed up to the largest Insane Asylum in the state. Very few understand what happens after death, Molly does. While other children were playing in the park with their living friends, Molly was in the cemetery playing with the dead. To say she is troubled is an understatement.
Now Molly has a new plan, to attempt to lead a normal life, and ban the contact with any of the dead. Realizing that she is madly in love with one of them was never part of that plan. However neither life or death ever go as planned and Molly is called upon to perform her role as the family Crypt Keeper…

I have to admit that this is the first book that I've read and it has to do with ghosts. I was a little hesitant at first, debating if I would like it. But I have to say that I was really impressed. Not only I liked it, but I loved it!
Molly is a young girl, with the ability to interact with ghosts. She left her home to go away and study , followed by her two favorite ghosts: Jewels & Levi. There she's also meeting Damon Night, a mysterious man that she's attracted to. Molly had a long history with Levi though, knowing each other since childhood. Something happens and Molly has to return at her hometown. There she finds out a lot about the reason she's having those abilities & a lot of pieces that were missing now come in place.
"Darkness cannot exist in light and from this point on if we cross paths death will surely find you."
I have to say that I was thrilled with this book! The mystery, the suspense, the action and the funny moments kept my attention , as well all this info that I was getting about Molly & her heritage. I'm looking forward for the next book in this series & I will definitely recommend it to paranormal lovers.
P.S1: I really loved Jewels, I think she's a great friend. “Listen to your heart always. Your instincts are better than anyone else’s.”
PS2: I ship Levi & Molly & I loved the little surprise at the end! "I didn’t care what the others thought of him; he was my dark hero and I wasn’t giving him up. Ever."
I received this book in exchange for an honest review through Lovers of Paranormal.
Crypt Keeper is the story of a girl who is utterly screwed up. She has not talked to her own father in several years, nor her little brother who she claims that she loves dearly. Her roommate is a ghost with attachment issues and her boyfriend is extremely possessive for someone that is dead. Add onto that a sexy college professor who finally decides to notice her and you have a whole mess to deal with. When her father dies, she goes back home and the s*** really hits the fan.
In a way, Crypt Keeper is a coming of age story. It is about accepting who you are and learning to embrace it. However, Molly never really does that. She is rude to everybody that is trying to help her and she never really seems to care about what is going on around her. Being able to see ghosts has jaded her to a certain extent but I really don't see how she has friends to begin with. She constantly yells at people (and gets just as good back) and digs in her heels at every opportunity.
Let's move on to the undead boy toy. Levi is a jerk. He is overly possessive and will not leave Molly alone. Does he not want her to have some form of normal relationship ever? He is incredibly selfish because he never lets her explore life without them. Apparently, they had made some sort of deal where they weren't going to be as close as they once were. Molly seems to be ok with that. Levi isn't and really keeps her boxed in.
So much of this book was based on anger. The characters are all angry about something and it is never really explained. It is used as a catalyst and I'm not sure that it quite works for me. Shouldn't they be trying to find another safer way to channel their power than to use an emotion that is more often than not destructive?
This book just fell a bit flat with me. It failed to draw me in as a reader and give me something to care about.
No excellent soul is exempt from a mixture of madness. - Aristotle
I'm attracted to how fraught the parent-child relationship is, swerving so easily between love and hostility, with almost no plausible way to end, unless someone dies. - Ben Marcus
Molly Maddison spent her whole life in and out of psychiatrist’s offices and asylums. Vicious treatment, when you are a child. When you really do see ghosts. Ghosts you can see and touch and interact with as if they were still alive. And yet, no one else can see them, hence, you must be mad.
Living in a funeral home, backing upon a cemetery, makes Molly’s young life more difficult than one could ever think. So, once old enough, she flees, running away from her life to a new world, where she will learn to help children who have suffered as she has. But her life still refuses to change, as her oh-so-real ‘imaginary friend’ Jewels has come along to keep her company, even though Molly asked her to stay behind. And though she has asked her ghostly lover, Levi, not to follow, when Molly decides to go out with her professor, Damon Knight, all hell breaks loose. Literally.
Now, with her father dead, Molly is drawn back home, into a world of horror and death unlike anything she could have ever expected. No one is whom Molly thought them to be. And what Molly must do to assure her own existence, and of those she loves, dead or not, will draw her once again to the edge of sanity.
Molly Maddison is a different sort of heroine than most in the urban fantasy realms, as is her world. K.A. Young has developed an unusual reality unlike any other I have so far found in UF writing. Creative and atypical, I am excited to continue my journey through her world.
I received Crypt Keeper the first of The Molly Maddison Series, from the publisher in return for a realistic review. All thoughts are my own.
I received this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review through the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com
Crypt Keeper did not disappoint. This book was fantastic and this promises to be a brilliant series. Molly is spunky, feisty and jaded, and you will just love her and the other characters in the book. The characters all have personality and are so believable … even though half of them are dead. This book has ample amounts of mystery, intrigue, suspense and action, along with a good dose of comedy. The writing flows well making it easy to read and the plot is well thought out. This book kept me guessing till the end. I could not put it down. All in all, it was a great read. K.A Young can be proud of this one. I will be looking out for the next book in this series with baited breath.
WOW!!! I was lucky enough to read Molly Maddison ~ Crypt Keeper before it was released. I LOVE everything about this book. It's fast paced, it keeps you guessing and the characters are entertaining. If it were possible, I would give this more stars! :)
I received a free copy (ARC) in excgange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal).
This book.... was damn too short for my likes. I wanted to see more of Molly and Levi, more of Death. More, more, more! I want more! And it's gonna be a hell of a wait until book 2 comes out. I liked Molly. I liked Levi, although he was also frustrating at times. I wasn't much impressed by Damon, but that might also be because I'm Team Levi all the way. He's my hero. My dark hero. Sigh. And oh, how sexy and hot and intense were Molly and Levi's moments together. That scene where she woke up finding him....doing dirty, sexy things to her.... Wow! Just wow! So, I think this book is a great start of a new, good series!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal). This was a really good book. It started great and finished great, except it left me wanting more. I really enjoyed these characters, the living and the not. I have never read anything by this author, but I will be looking for more of her books and waiting impatiently for the next book in this series.
~~I received this in exchange for an honest review~~
I didn't want this book to end at all. I was captured by the mystery that surrounds Molly Maddison. I kept trying to turn the page on my Kindle, but it just wouldn't turn. So I am left feeling sad because I NEED more Molly!! I need to know what is going to happen and I want her to live happily with the one that she loves. BUT, does she really know who that person is? I mean you have this guy names Damon Night, he strikes me funny, I haven't really warmed up to him yet. Sure he has come into the picture as her protector/professor, but she doesn't know anything about him. Then you have Levi, the one that vowed to never let her get hurt, that will always be there to make her feel better, the one that she loves. But, Levi holds a very serious secret. One that might end their relationship for good.
Oh I haven't wanted to continue a book so badly in my life. This book has consumed me, I need more. This is a great Young Adult book. It has situations in there that aren't quite OK of teen readers, but I feel are OK for 18 and over. This book deals with death and dying. It has Hell hounds and demons in there that are described as really scary. It is nothing that I want to meet in the light of day. Molly has a big heart, but she was kind of pushed aside by her dad. I understand why he did it, but it just leaves me questioning why he chose the path that he did, why he didn't train her properly for what she needs to do. I really want to read the second one like right now. I want to drop everything else I am doing and read that one, but I am going to have to wait.
You need to check this book out. You will not be disappointed at all. With Halloween around the corner, this is a great book to read!!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal).
The story revolves around Molly Maddison, who can see ghosts and is desperately trying to lead a normal life. Not a chance! Molly is sassy, funny, insecure, short-tempered and foul-mouthed, and she doesn’t take crap from anyone! I loved her! She has the right attitude to get through all the obstacles that she faces and to deal with her new role as the family Crypt Keeper. Throw in a sexy, hot guy or two, and I was hooked.
Levi and Damon are anything but ordinary. Levi is gorgeous, dark and intense, and I can understand how Molly finds him irresistible, even with his anger issues and dark secrets. And Damon is so hot (and alive) and I look forward to getting to know him better. I feel that there is much more to him than has been revealed. And Jewels, I would love a best friend like Jewels – she is so loyal and hilarious, even if she is dead.
The Crypt Keeper is a short, fun read for anyone who loves paranormal with plenty of action, humour and romance. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series when it is released.
*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)*
Molly has led a very strange life. She's been raised in a funeral home. So she knows everything that goes on when someone dies. If that's not weird enough, she can also see and communicate with the dead. After years of living in this little bubble of her world, she decides she's done. She is going to act like normal people that can't see what she can. Then she goes and falls in love...with a sexy, dead guy!
I was completely enamored with this book! I loved the whole story! I thought it was such an original thing to read. I just really wanted Molly's sexy, dead boyfriend to be alive SO badly! I feel very fortunate to have received an arc of this book and truly hope that K.A. Young writes a sequel soon!
There is only 1 one thing 2 say 3 words 4 this book I LOVED IT....!!!!!!!!!
A breath-taking, awe-strucking, paranormal book that had me craving more. The way Young plays with words and creates a heroine full of passion, independance and courage, made me love her.
And Levi( oh Levi) I fell in love with him too..the end had me grinning like the joker, from ear to ear.
WHAT A CLIFFHANGER!!
The writing itself had a crescendo form: Slow at first but progressing with a steadious and extraordinary rythm.
Full of intrigue and unsolved mysteries. Giving romance a touch I admire without failing I was delighted to know there still existed, this book gave me a run for the hills(the good way).
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
This is not my usual read, and yet I was caught up in the story from the beginning. I loved the humour, the naiveity and the characters. I will definitely be reading book 2 so that I know how things pan out for the newly awakened Molly. Her interactions with Jewel, Levi and Damon were all so different, and cleverly described. I found there to be some issues with typos, but I was happy to ignore and get on with the story.
Perfect Halloween reading - but I would suggest fun at any time of the year!
This was my favourite K.A.Young book to date . WOW! Holy s..t .........Crypt Keeper is the bees knees with a cherry on top . I totally utterly love this book everything is fab in this book. it keeps you guessing and so many twist it will keep you hooked till the very end and the characters are so realistic I think I could join them . This book deserves every star and more . I need the next book as I'm in limbo x
I really enjoyed this story. I blew right through it. I was so engrossed that I hadn't noticed I was near the end, and then BAM! Cliffhanger of champions! I guess I'll be reading the second one. This book was a great find.
Wow, what an exciting book! Just read front to back in one swoop. The story and characters are fantastic, it wasn't predictable, and I love that. My only complaint is extremely poor editing, with missing words everywhere. Honestly, I would normally stop reading a book with this many errors. But the story kept my attention and it even got 4⭐, so I do recommend it. I don't understand how an author or editor allows their book to be released with so very many missing words. It's like whoever was typing it got behind, and decided to skip a lot of small words (to, the, he, she, it, etc) so they could catch up! Yes, it's a silly example, but should show you what I mean. I'm not sure how old the book is, but hopefully they'll fix the e-book for their readers. ✋🐺
I'm unsure if this is meant to be a YA or not. The content of the book is written in a simplistic format making me believe that perhaps it is; however, the cussing and sexual content make me question. So I enjoyed the simplicity of the book. My biggest criticism is that everyone is afraid of Levi and his tempers. I question what kind of message it sends to have women afraid of men and be "in love" sounds like normalicity of abuse. Overall I enjoyed the concept and the plot.

The Review:
Crypt Keeper, the first in an all new series by award-winning author K.A. Young, is a paranormal romance with a YA/NA audience. The series revolves around Molly Maddison, a young woman who sees and hears dead people. Since she was a child, she has helped guide the dead to the other side using a thread of their essence. With this unique gift comes its own consequences. As a child, she was sent to multiple shrinks in order to treat her mental illness. Of course people thought she was crazy. They couldn’t see what she saw. As a result of this ability, Molly developed anger problems and became estranged from her family. This eventually forced her to move out and live on her own.
Molly is a brown-haired, blue-eyed, feisty woman with a foul mouth. She is incredibly strong, and extremely loyal to those she loves. Being gifted with the ability to see the dead, Molly took her experiences and transformed them into something beneficial. She attended college in order to receive her Master’s degree, pursuing a job in the Pediatric Behavioral Therapy field. While studying for her state license exam, Molly learns that her father has passed away, and she has to return home to the place she fled from. From the life she didn’t want. Now she is forced to take over the family business by becoming a Crypt Keeper.
Joining her in this new endeavor is her sidekick and best friend Jewels. There’s just one thing-she’s dead. Jewels has known Molly since she was a young girl, showing up one day and never leaving. This feisty biker chick speaks her mind. She is strong and bold, right down to the dark green highlights in her jet black hair. The caramel eyed beauty has signed on for the ride of her “life” with this new undertaking. But, as always, she is up for the challenge.
Along the way, Molly picks up another problem. A tall, blonde haired, green-eyed problem, in the form of her Professor. A professor who knows a little too much about her. Though he takes a little too much interest in her, outside of the classroom, Damon Knight becomes an essential part of her life. Taking on a protective role towards Molly who is facing the most dangerous and deadly challenge of her life.
Throughout her life, Molly has had two constants in her life. Seeing dead people, and being in love with Levi. Unfortunately for her, the two are one and the same. Levi is gorgeous, with his brown hair and hazel eyes, tattooed chest, and alpha personality. He is the jealous type though, and this makes things complicated when Damon Knight enters the picture.
With Molly’s life in jeopardy, and the fate of the world on the line, will Molly learn how to survive in this new role? Will she be able to protect the Crypt? Will she choose life or death? Find out in the next book in the series.
~I found this book to be very interesting. As a fan of all things paranormal, I haven’t read anything like this before. I thought the characters were intriguing, and I definitely want to see how the story develops. I think the author did a good job of drawing the reader in to set up for the series with a creative storyline, funny nicknames, cool powers, and a little erotica thrown in for good measure. I also liked that the author used quotes to start every chapter. My favorite one, from Betty Friedan, made me laugh.
“No woman gets an orgasm from shining the kitchen floor.”
~There were a few things I didn’t like though. I’m not one for love triangles. I like a straightforward romance with my drama; however, a lot of people do like them. There were a few inconsistencies in the writing style, but not enough to be inherently obvious to most readers. Lastly, I had quite a few issues with the grammar problems, and this did affect my rating. I can overlook typos for the most part, and it usually won’t affect my rating, but for me, these problems did add a little bit of disjointedness to the flow of the story.
~Overall, I thought the story was really good, and I would recommend it. The book is out now so go one-click the hell out of it, share with your friends, and follow along with Molly’s journey.
Check out K.A. Young’s site to keep up with the latest news! You can also find her on Goodreads and Facebook.
This story is good, with some editing errors that can irritate and distract from the plot. It's worth reading because there are several characters worthy of attention. The plot has strong enough flow to forgive the lapses in continuity, and it gives you the feeling of a stronger series to come.
The characters were interesting, slightly foul mouthed and funny. The plot was fast paced and entertaining. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Molly is lost, angry and confused. Everything has changed overnight. Oh, she could always see ghosts and help them on, but now she is supposed to keep evil from other dimensions coming into ours?
I loved this story and I'm am ordering the next ones in the series! I'm glad it didn't end with a cliffhanger. Loved it and I hope more people enjoy it too.
Super consigliato!
ENG - Molly is not an ordinary girl, which is the point of view from you look at it. First, it is grown in a Funeral Home and knows all about what happens after death, especially because he sees spirits, indeed, always interacts with them and his closest friends, well, are dead. This does not mean, however, that she desire is to lead a life as smooth as possible, eliminating those contacts from his everyday life. He did not, however, calculated to fall in love with one of them. Which surely complicates this intent.
We know Molly as she attends the College followed by two spirits friends, Jewels and Levi. During this period she also knows a mysterious boy - alive - which is called Damon Night, and she feels strangely drawn to.
Move away from the family seemed like a good idea but when it's her turn to inherit the job of Crypt Keeper, she realizes that dead friends, she he wanted to leave behind, are the only ones that can help her keep everything under control, helping her to understand what are her skills and duties.
Molly is a funny, sassy and strong, she knows what she wants but does not know what to expect. He fought all his life to try to have an ordinary life but is now "call to arms" and with his irony and boldness in her hand, has all the qualities needed to succeed. Jewel is her best friend, extremely honest, loyal and fun - despite being dead. Levi is a spirit that Molly knows from childhood, a boy as fascinating as dark, intense, and it is not difficult to understand why Molly is attracted by him. Damon is a mysterious boy - and alive - that hides many secrets and I am sure that in future books will be explored his background.
The writing is very fast, adrenaline, without unnecessary frills. Crypt Keeper is a short, fun read for anyone who loves paranormal with plenty of action, humour and romance. Super recommended!
I really loved the character of Molly, I was a bit sad about how everyone seems to think her incapable of handling her gifts and life. I also am unclear as to why she was sent to an asylum at all by her family. The backwards protection that her family felt was warranted is just a bit much. I want to read more because there are huge holes that need to be filled in the plot and I'm hoping that I'm able to fill them with another story.
I read this through Goodreads' Lovers of Paranormal group, in exchange for an honest review.
A unique spin on the young/new adult, psychic genre, Molly Maddison has always been able to communicate with the dead. In fact, her best friend and her boy friend, are both dead. Not only can she communicate with them, she can see them, feel them, and interact with them. The first book in a new series, Crypt Keeper, is a tale about a young woman who has a hard time separating the here and now, from what's already passed. Growing up in a funeral home with a cemetery as her back yard, was bad enough, but add the largest insane asylum in the state, next to that, and you've got one messed up childhood, even for a young psychic.
Going away to college, Molly decides to try and live a normal life by leaving her 'dead' friends behind. That, unfortunately, doesn't work out as well as she hoped but, when her father unexpectedly passes away, she realizes that she's grateful to have them in her life, now, more than ever. Learning that she's inherited the job of family crypt keeper, and that there's really no one to teach her exactly what that means, her life is more complicated than ever before. Besides, how's she supposed to protect the world from evil spirits when she has no idea what that entails. Becoming a good crypt keeper seems like it's going to be a lot harder than even Molly thinks.
As the beginning of a series, there are a lot of questions leading into the next installment, and I'm looking forward to finding out exactly how Molly answers those questions. Looks to be an exciting read.
You’d think a kid who grew up in a funeral home, and who had a graveyard as a playground, would be strange, and in Molly Maddison’s case, you’d be right. A young adult, now, Molly has a close friend, Jewels, who coincidentally happens to be dead, and she is constantly importuned by the recently and not so recently departed for her help. That’s right; Molly can see, feel, and interact with the dead. Even worse, she can really get physical with them, as she does with Levi, an enigmatic, sometimes dangerous ghost who is obsessed with her. Then, Damon Night enters Molly’s life. The professor in a class she’s taking to get her certification as a child behavior therapist, he is in Jewel’s words, a hottie, and Molly is drawn to him. But Damon is not what he seems. Nor, for that matter, is Molly. When her father dies, and she has to go home for the reading of the will, Molly learns the secret that he’d kept from her for her whole life, and oh what a secret it is. Crypt Keeper by K.A. Young is the first in a series about Molly Maddison, a Crypt Keeper by birth, who happens to be in love with Death—not just the concept, but the actual grim reaping entity. Young writes with a wry wit, and a deft hand as she describes dead-undead/mortal-immortal encounters, magical moments, both eerie and erotic, and Molly’s journey of discovery. This is a hard book to classify. It’s funny, it’s scary, it has elements of the paranormal, and it has romance. It’s a quick read, and an enjoyable one, so let’s ditch the thoughts of classifying it into a particular genre and start reading.
