Dark, urgent, and unflinchingly human, this gripping crime thriller follows our emotionally flawed yet fiercely principled investigator Kat as she teams up with her loyal partner to unravel the chilling truth behind a woman found dazed and drugged, stumbling through the city streets of Dana Point. As clues unfold, the trail leads to young women vanishing, only to reappear drugged, broken—or not at all. The investigator’s internal struggles ignite her relentless drive to solve a deadly puzzle centered in the brutal underworld. Tautly written and emotionally resonant, this story is as much about justice as it is about survival—and the cost of looking away. A haunting, unforgettable read.
OK I can say it, WOW!!! What an incredibly good book!! It kept me on the edge of my seat and believe me when I say I couldn't go to sleep at even 3 AM. There were enough surprises to surprise me!!! I haven't made up my mind about Kat yet. Is she incredibly smart and intuitive or is she reckless. Well, she's both. Well done Mr. author. I love this series!!!
Wow! This book never stopped with the suspense. Investigators Kat Cromwell and her partner Hugo, don’t know if it is a case they should be handling when a young lady was almost hit while stumbling into the road, or if she is another unfortunate woman who have become addicted to drugs. But the three words she said before becoming unconscious, makes them think, there is more to her story. “There are more”. And when someone is apparently trying to make sure, she doesn’t regain consciousness. One clue leads to another, and another . Just when they think they have it figured out as to what is going on, the investigation leads somewhere else. This book will definitely keep guessing and it is a case of …..I did not see that coming. I definitely recommend it and it definitely deserves 5 stars
“There are more” … if that isn’t guaranteed to keep you reading, then I don’t know what is - absolutely unputdownable! Not only was this a gripping mystery that had you emotionally invested from the start, it was a great read throughout packed full of surprises right up until the last sentence. There is lots more learnt yet still so much to find out about this intrepid investigator. Kat Cromwell is become more real and endearing to the readers which each new book; Nicholas Harvey has managed to add another inspiring, strong female to his character repertoire and I’m hooked. As always, I’m left waiting eagerly for the next one!
Nick hits another home run. This series has been such a pleasure to read. Kat is s bit of a "brat" but she has instincts of a wild cat..Hugo is a great partner for her, calm, more by the book but still supportive of her and her crazy brain. They caught some of the bad guys, some got killed, they hopefully broke up a trafficking ring, I'm not sure we're done here. There's more to look into.
Nick's books are always so real that I feel like I'm on scene and being able to feel like that is why I read his stories. Can't wait for the next one while I catch up with AJ and Nora.
BEST Kat Cromwell book yet! “There are more…” hooks you from page one. What happened to this woman is far more complicated than it first seems. The wild twists and turns don’t stop until the very end. I love how the main characters are more clearly defined. Kat is as tenacious as ever, Hugo shows a more human side, and we finally learn more about Kat’s fiancé. That has been driving me nuts!! Can't wait for number 4 in the series!
Wow, so many twists and turns, from the beginning when a girl stumbles into the road, to the very end. Love Kat the charge ahead investigator who uses her instant camera to record everything and Hugo the more cautious one, as they do what needs to be done to put the bad guys away. Definitely keeps you reading to see what happens next. Great read!
Kat is a bit of a loose cannon or as her partner says “a hand grenade with the pin pulled’ but she gets the job done. The latest case seems to be impossible but all the string slowly tie together. I am looking forward to reading more of these.
The One Who Ran is another exciting Kat Cromwell book. Nick continues to explore the relationship between Kat and Hugo while telling a great story. A great read.
