“The author has a keen eye for the nuances and contradictions of conventional social life…Harrigan creates compelling, multifaceted, and sometimes morally ambiguous characters…” –Kirkus Reviews
One dead college student. One forbidden secret. One woman’s obsession.
Claudia Aldridge has spent years building a life of control. She runs a student apartment building in an elite mountain college town, keeps her head down, and never talks about the reckless girl she used to be. Not with her husband. Not with her friends. Not with anyone.
Then a student is found dead in her building under chillingly familiar circumstances, and Claudia’s carefully curated life starts to crack. She knows she should walk away, but she can’t. Not without answers.
She sneaks into his apartment. She questions his friends, attends his funeral, and becomes consumed with his life. She knows some secrets don’t stay buried, and beneath this tragedy is a secret that may have been worth killing a steamy, messy affair with explosive implications.
The deeper Claudia digs, the more her impulsive instincts resurface. She’s lying to her husband, avoiding her friends, and risking everything she’s built. Because she’s not just chasing answers.
This thriller is fantastic. It’s got three main parts and I loved the way it’s set up.
In the first part, the main character, Claudia, who manages a fancy apartment complex for college students, starts to investigate the death of a resident. Part of the reason she does this is that she has a death in her past she can’t let go.
The second part of the book goes back in time and then brings us into the present. There is a different perspective and main character for that section.
The last part of the book brings everything together.
I thought the drama and thriller components were all well thought out and implemented. I loved it.

Such a fun, twisty thriller! I loved Claudia’s character and how adamant she was about figuring out the death of the student. I could really empathize with her character in a lot of ways, and I was always rooting for her. I enjoyed getting to see other perspectives throughout the story as well. I especially enjoy them when they are well done. This book had so many twists and turns, most that I never saw coming! Definitely a drama filled domestic suspense thriller to add to your TBR pile!
I was guessing, from the title and the beautiful cover, this might be a coming-of-age or women’s fiction novel, but was completely surprised to find it an intriguing mystery.
This is a domestic thriller, as we follow Claudia, who now manages a student apartment building. She has worked hard to keep her past a secret and maintain control, not like the reckless girl she had been. But when a student is found dead in her apartment community, things begin to unravel for Claudia.
I enjoyed how Claudia, with the help of a few friends, investigates the student’s death, which gives this an amateur sleuth feel. But things get messy for Claudia as she’s trying to keep her own secrets from being revealed. A great mystery filled with drama, secrets, twists, and turns, plus a highly satisfying ending.

This book hooked me from the very first page. Just when I thought I had the plot figured out—bam, wrong again! Claudia, who’s now managing a student apartment building, is trying hard to keep her messy past hidden, but when a student turns up dead, things spiral fast.
I loved how Claudia, with the help of her friends (seriously, I want to hang out with these women), dives into the mystery like an amateur sleuth. It’s twisty, messy, and full of secrets that keep piling up. Think domestic drama meets dark, addictive thriller—with a super satisfying ending. If you love smart, character-driven suspense, this one’s a must-read!
What a creative nailbiter of a story! Claudia gets heavily involved when a student is found dead in the building she manages. There’s a reason (or reasons) she’s gotten this involved, but I’ll keep that a secret. It’s best to go in blind to this story, so you can be surprised with the twists and turns. Filled with secrets, Her Younger Self is a captivating mystery thriller!
Don't be fooled into thinking this is a womens fiction novel by the beautiful cover. It is a well-written suspenseful psychological thriller that will take you on a wild ride as you follow along with Claudia’s search for answers as she also navigates secrets and a traumatic event from her past. The pages practically turned themselves as I had to know what was going on and the surprise twists along the way kept me immersed in the story and reading long into the night.
I received a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first book I picked up after a long reading slump. And when I tell you I’m SO glad this was the book I chose I mean it! I couldn’t stop thinking about it. And when I thought I had some of the plot figured out I was wrong. I want to be friends with the 3 women in this story. I loved it so much
Her Younger Self by Haley Harrigan was such a creative, twisty nail-biter! One dead college student. One forbidden secret. One woman’s dangerous obsession. This is a dark, addictive thriller about secrets, obsession, and the ghosts of your past that refuse to stay buried. Highly recommend if you love smart, character-driven suspense!
This book completely consumed me! It wasn’t at all what I had expected and it surprised me in the best way. It’s the first book that has been unputdownable for me in awhile. There were so many great components - - complicated family dynamics, three wonderful friends and two of them have experienced significant loss in their past, college/small Southern town dynamics plus SO MANY twists and turns!
Don’t let the pretty cover fool you. This isn’t women’s fiction, it’s a dark, twisty psychological thriller. A completely messy and addictive read, full of secrets, suspense, and twists you won’t see coming.
HER YOUNGER SELF was a great thriller! Outstanding work from author, Haley Harrigan. I was thrown many times by the twists and turns. And you can expect to be captivated by this story from beginning to end! I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.
Many thanks to Haley Harrigan for my gifted copy.

I enjoyed how this was a twisty read all about secrets. Claudia was trying to uncover what had happened while trying not exposing her own secrets. I liked how we got to know Claudia and her friend group. It was nice to see how much she cared about her residence enough to push for more from the police. The way the information was revealed kept me turning the pages. It was more character driven than plot driven but I really enjoyed it.
