Bearly in Love

Rate this book
Stacy Gage is really hoping that “happily ever after” does exist, but right now, she’s doubting it. Newly graduated, she arrived back in her home town to discover that if it wasn’t for bad, she wouldn’t have any luck at all. Her grandmother is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s and the financial nest egg her grandfather spent years building has disappeared. When he isn’t kissing her senselessly, the man of her dreams seems to be very much involved with someone else. The only job she can get involves large hairy animals. And, when it comes to fairy godmothers, she’s definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel.

When Stacey Gage graduates from college and comes home to live with her grandmother, she thought everything would be great as always. But a shock awaited her. Her grandmother was penniless, the bills were delinquent, and even Grandma Addie seemed different. Stacey struggled to hold things together and find a job to help them survive. Thankfully she had wonderful neighbors who were willing to help as needed! When her grandmother discovers Stacey's stash of $35.00 that was going to be used for gas to get to a job interview, Addie uses it to go to the beauty shop as well as use up the gas in Stacey's car. Stacey manages to race to the recycling center on her bicycle with 4 bags of cans she has collected as she walked around town in the early mornings. The kindness of the man at the center helped her come up with the much needed $20 for gas for tomorrow morning's interview at Adventureland. She makes it and gets a job-in the far outreach of the nature preserve at the park. It is a treasure in the rough-and Stacey immediately sees it's potential.

While waiting for nonexistent customers, her neighbor, Grandpa Sam comes in wearing a bear costume. When Stacey discovers who it is, she feels like she has found a "Beary Godfather" who will help her make her part of the park more successful. It doesn't hurt that his grandson, Henry, was her best friend growing up, and the one she has always cared about especially after her parents dying in the tornado ten years ago. But Henry has his own complications-and holds back from Stacey his involvement in the park, and her life.

This is a sweet story with some sad parts (Addie has Alzheimer's), some scary parts (tornados and wild bison), some maddening parts (Lorraine), and some parts that just make your heart fill with happiness (too many to count, but especially Henry and Stacey and George's final scene). It is the kind of book that stays with you long after the last page is read, and you keep remembering things and smiling.

Author Terri Reid, is a successful writer of the Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery series, and is what I think of as a gentle soul. However this book is totally different from Mary O'Reilly's stories, without any ghosts or paranormal activity. I can't recommend it enough for readers of all ages who like stories about love for families as well as that special person with whom to share their life.

I have read a lot of books by this author and this was my least favorite. The story read more like it was for a teen or young adult. It was very simplistic with no depth or character development. I didn't care about either of the main characters. I would however love to see more about the "villain" , Lorraine. She was the most interesting character in the book. If this had been my first Terri Reid book, I would have never read the excellent Mary O'Reilly series.

This was a sweet love story about two people that have had feelings for each other for most of their lives but both of them think they are no good for the other one and hide their feelings. It was heartwarming and sweet.

This book was just want I needed! I love Terri Reid's style of writing and this story didn't disappoint! Stacy, Henry, Sam, Addie and even Lorriene are characters one truly enjoys getting to know. This was a modern was fairy tale with a few of the classic stories intertwined.

If you are looking for a sweet, light hearted story with a little bit of heartbreak and a whole lot of love, this is the story for you. Don't think, however that a sweet story can't have a lesson! we should Remember, as this book show us, that even the worst among us have some redeeming quality!

I can not read this

2 stars because I could not read it so it may be fine if I stick thru it. I stopped when the heroine was dressing for her new job. Yeah. Pretty early. Her treatment by the HR assistant was awful for a HR professional. And the heroines "ex friend from high school" happened to get a job at the same time with no glaring HR weirdness. I am surprised this was Ms Reid. Trite. " poor heroine" . Awful friend- I don't buy the premise and the emotion.

This book was a sweet story with wonderful characters that you truly can love. It also deals with adult children and grandchildren being the caregivers to parents/grandparents suffering with the onset of Alzheimer's, and as usual, Terri Reid handled the subject so well with humor and love.
