Rowan

After years of captivity, I finally escape, and in the process of running from one monster, I find myself in a world that defies belief. I’ve been abducted by creatures that only exist in mythology and every time I open my eyes, there’s a new level of hell. I pray for it all to stop. Just when I’m moments away from peace, a beast comes out of nowhere, picking me up in his huge arms, offering me what I’ve always dreamed of. Out of the darkness comes an opportunity, a second chance, and all I have to do is find enough courage to reach out and grab it. How can I believe he’s going to make it better when he’s a monster too?

Einar

The gods have forsaken my family. We were abandoned in a world where we were forced to fight and steal for survival. My brothers and I raided a bug ship, expecting to loot it and leave. Instead, I found her broken and moments from death. That is when I realize everything I was subjected to prepared me for this moment. The gods knew my Starshine was broken, and I was the only one that could possibly erase the emptiness in her eyes. Can she see past the beast to the male inside?

This storyline ends in a HEA, but continues on throughout the remaining series as each book concentrates on a particular couple. Have questions??

Keep reading, all will be revealed….

This author has a sense of story structure and narrative tension that does not work for me. For more than a quarter of this book (11 chapters), this is a story about a woman in regular old present day non-sci-fi society who is escaping her abusive marriage. That’s it. I had to check if I was confused about what book I was reading. The shift in tone to alien abduction at the start of Chapter 12 is incredibly jarring. It then takes another six chapters (to Chapter 17) before we are introduced at all to the MMC. The FMC and MMC don’t have any sort of interaction until about 50% of the way through the book, and the first time they actually interact with each other is about two thirds through (Chapter 28 of 42). This could have been an interesting story - a woman who was repeatedly and horribly abused is the fated mate of a gentle but big bruising monster and they have to figure out how to move forward together. The pacing of the story, however, made this incredibly boring and full of long stretches of irrelevant information.

I think this author doesn’t get that, if you are writing a romance, you actually want the story to be about romance.

Yeah, for the jolly green giant! Monsters with beautiful souls deserve love too.

This second book was particularly hard hitting with massive themes of torture, severe abuse that makes you want to hate, scream, cry as you follow Rowans story of overcoming this to have the love she deserves. Also, be brave enough to try to love again no matter how scary it is. It goes to show that some monsters are disguised in plain sight as beautiful people, whilst some monsters 👻 hold so much beauty within, you can't help but fall in love with them. Rowan and Einar just needed the mating marks to negate their healing time and push to fight for what was given to them by the universe, loves of their own to cherish. I'm looking forward to the next story. I'm hoping for more laughter, though.

After reading a little bit about what Rowan went through in the previous book in The Brigands of Ruk series, I brought it but knew I wasn't ready to read it yet. I knew that I had to mentally prepare myself first before I read it. And I was right because, as usual, this author wrung every last emotion from me in this one.
Einar and Rowan will take you there as you bury yourself in her painful situation, her bravery and her triumphs. Einar will steal your heart with his determination to see about his mate while being pulled by his duties as the ship's doctor. And his love and patience for her, to him, is worth paying the ultimate price.
It's impossible for me at least, to put any more into words because I'll end up writing a review that reads like a novel.
Please trust me, you want this one in your library!

A chance for Rowan and Einar at love

This is book two in the series and the feature couple are Rowan and Einar. Rowan is the sister to Ruby and Einar is the middle brother of Slavic from book one. The authors made sure that you don’t have to read book one because at least half of the book retells the major parts in from book one. It is so similar, that I had to a skip pages. I was disappointed that I didn’t get a full new book, but the couple were cute, they had baggage, and were interesting. Rowan wants to go home to Earth but it is no more. Will Rowan to try to escape? Or will she stay with Einar, our scarred beautiful male. The is a happy ending for the couple. Read On!

Not for me

The author(s) use the dialog between characters to make absolutely massive information dumps, which, of course, feels inorganic and blunt. There's no nuance in the 'development' of character, relationships, and world.
I disliked how the main character's recovery from years of trauma was just her deciding to stop being a victim. Respectfully, w t actual f?
I also found the males characters inconsistent. For example, early in the book, they discuss how they will get more credits if the ship they're raiding is carrying slaves. Later, we're told that because they have experienced mistreatment, they are very cognizant of the value of others.
I wasn't a fan of this one.

This was a surprisingly good read. It starts out with a non alien vibe but a horrific abusive spouse. Rowan is at the end of her rope. The years of physical and sexual abuse inflicted by her politically powerful husband has made her into a shell of the woman she used to be. Fair warning, the first chapters that describe what Rowan has gone through are absolutely horrific and I cried for what this character had to endure. Giving her safe word to her sister begins their run away from human torture to an even worse alien abduction and as potential food for an insectoid species. It gets better, I promise. It’s a fast turn around since everything is in one novel when it could have easily been drawn out in 3 novels.

Second Chance to Live and Love

Wow! What an emotional ride! Rowan was an abused spouse who escapes her sadistic spouse and goes on the run with her sister Ruby. They are abducted by aliens and sold to a race of insectoid aliens who plan on using them as living incubators. Fate steps in and they are rescued by a band of brothers who are victims of a different kind of abuse. Einsr is medic who recognizes Rowan as his mate immediately. But she’s in really bad shape and he has to heal her body and her mind before the mating bond kills him. He was the absolute sweetest guy, so understanding and patient. I really enjoyed reading about their romance.

awwww More more more

I’ve read many books by this author and have enjoyed them all. In this series it begins with sisters one who is married to a senator who is highly abusive. Once her sister rescued her they unfortunately get abducted and taken into space. They are kept in suspension for many years until brought to market by aliens. As this story unfolds you find many horrible beings but luckily for a few humans they are rescued by pirates. These are the stories of fated mates and how they all came to be. This series is by no means finished so I’m looking forward to more by this author and more HEA.

Enjoyed it

I loved it. For the most part, this book was wonderful. I love Rowan and her green giant. My only thing was the many repeats of the conversations in the first book. If you have only read this one and not the first, you would never know. But because I binge read, it was repetitive at those parts. I wish we would have gotten more of just the couple and relationship building or private chats with them instead. All in all, I really did enjoy this book and will definitely be reading the next one.

not that great

The quality of the writing isn’t that great. The first 20% of the book is purely them escaping from her abusive husband and most of it felt like cheap filler. The FMC and the MMC don’t even meet until 50% of the way into the book which in my opinion feels like a waste of my time. Rubys book was a little better but that first 20% is still wasted in her book too. I fully understand needing to set the stage and even go into the escape but when you have multiple stops along the way that hold no value to the story it’s just empty action to fill up the pages.

Einar

I’ve really enjoyed this book series so far. Book one was full of heartbreak, drama, humor and lots of aliens good and bad. Book two, my only complaint is that parts of it was like re-reading book one. I’m hoping now that the sisters’ stories are told the redundancy is over and the books continue the timeline with different stories and not repeats.
Having said that, I am hooked on this series and will continue and can’t wait for all the brothers’ stories are told and maybe other characters as they are introduced.

Love this world!

I truly love this world. The overlapping plots and twists just keep engaging. Commander DaR being mentioned. The adventure and the different pairings and interactions keep it fresh and engaging. The issues of abuse and how they are handled so caring and gracious. Please bring on the next chapter soon. I highly highly recommend this series. Heart stopping adventure and romance.

From victims to lovers

Abuse against both Einar and Rowan, this couple must overcome much. Rowan was in an extremely abusive relationship that ends with her escaping and being kidnapped from Earth. When she awakens she is being held in captivity with her sister and several other women also abducted. Suddenly when rescued by another set of aliens, she finds that both she and her sister Ruby are destined to find life and love in another galaxy.

2 points of view

Yes, the author did write both books almost exactly alike in the beginning, but that is because it is from the point of view from each sister. You need to keep in mind that they went through the same thing in the beginning, so the beginning of their stories are going to be the same. Either way, I enjoyed and finished both books, and I am looking forward to the next in series. I need to know what happens with each brother and if they find their mam and sister!

70% repeat of book 1

I absolutely loved the 1st book, and I truly enjoyed the last 30% of the 2nd book, but re-reading book 1 from a slightly different viewpoint was extremely frustrating. There just wasn’t enough difference to make rereading the story interesting. It was acceptable as a kindle unlimited loan, I’d have been very upset if I’d purchased this book. I am looking forward to book 3 and hope it’s not a word-by-word replay of book 1 and 2.

Loved this one!

Absolutely loved the extra part at the end, I was getting frustrated that a large portion of it was just a different version of book 1, but then again this is the sister, so I guess I can understand it, there was also some more explanations in here that were missed in the previous one (or i missed them) but i enjoyed her redemption, I wish there was more on her recovery, but I live a good HEA

Love it.

Love it. Can't wait for the next one in this series, I'm just wondering if Dar and his boys and mates are going to make an appearance, I hope so but if they don't it's all good just wishful thinking on my part. HEA is exactly what I want when I read the books of both authors and us readers get it in spades. Like I wrote before love this series can't wait for more.

I loved every single second of this book!! The pain i felt for rowan and the triumph i felt as she overcame her pain and past was unreal! And a loveable jolly green giant thats just a big Ole over protective teddy bear!! I couldn't be anymore happy with how this series is turning out!! Also, the switch of perspectives is refreshing to me!

Einar is a dream!

So sweet and so hot! Oh my! Loved this story so much, but only the last half. Retelling most of the whole first book from an a different perspective was so boring, I finally had to just skip ahead to the middle to get some new content. The ending was so great that you are forgiven and still get five stars.

The book was a Literal repeat of Book 1 in the series until the final chapters. Very annoying. And the MFC only decides to have sex with the MMC bc if she doesn't he'll die? There was no Romance in this story, but I added another star bc Einar is a sweetheart.

dragon in disguise

Each story in this series is my favorite until I read the next one. Einar is every woman’s dream for a partner, except for being an alien orc/dragon. The chemistry between him and Rowan literally drips from the pages. Can’t wait for the next one!

I read the first one, then found myself endlessly skimmin through this one until I found the new parts about the new couple. It was hard to read if you're following the series since so much is repeated. I won't read any more of them.
