A surprise reunion of sisters. A secret house on Madequecham Beach. A painful past that just might lead to healing.
For the past year, Charlotte Whitmore has been living in quiet exile on Nantucket, working on her floundering documentaries and nursing a broken heart. But when her younger sister Nina, whom she hasn’t seen in twenty-seven years, shows up unannounced, Charlotte is forced to confront the family secrets she thought would remain forever buried.
The biggest secret? Their brother Jack, presumed dead in the fire that destroyed the White Oak Lodge in 1998, may still be alive. Charlotte hasn’t seen him in years, but the house she’s living in belongs to “Seth Green,” the name Jack has been using since faking his death. At least, that’s what Jack told her… in their twenties.
Nina and Charlotte's reunion sets off a chain of revelations. After the fire, the Whitmore family scattered. Francesca fled to Italy with her daughters, Charlotte cut ties, and Nina was sent to Michigan to live with their Great Aunt Genevieve. Now, as old wounds resurface and long-held resentments boil over, the sisters must piece together what really happened at the Lodge—and what it means for their future.
Throw in a chance encounter with an old flame, a visit from a relentless private investigator, and the wreckage of a failed engagement, and what emerges is a tangled, heartfelt story about memory, forgiveness, and the enduring bonds of family.
This is book two of The Whitmore Series, a hopeful family drama perfect for your next beach read.
Katie writes women's fiction and clean, wholesome contemporary romance. She looks to everyday, real-life family issues to weave stories of heartfelt emotions, love and loss, and everything in between.
Come transport yourself to Martha's Vineyard: an island of vivid blue ocean, white sand, and a lively community of locals, who celebrate everything from the bright New England summers to the cold, yet cozy, snowcapped winters.
Disappointments, betrayals, secrets, lies and broken family relationships are all parts of this second book in the Whitmore Series. The fire that destroyed the White Oak Inn decimated the members of the Whitmore family. Once again living on Nantucket Island, Charlotte, the documentarian is sought out by her youngest sister, Nina, after being separated for twenty-seven years. This series forces the reader to become a detective too and while we learn more about the family and past events, each book also gives us another "dilemma" to solve. I'm looking forward to having more answers to these queries. I'm always impressed by how deftly Katie Winters creates her story lines. I can't wait for the third book .
Return to Whitmore is book 2 in the Whitmore series by Katie Winters, which brings the sister back together some 27 yrs later with still unanswered questions from book 1, more secrets, hopefully finding answers, forgiveness, family dynamics and more…
I voluntarily read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
this was a good follow up to #1 story about the lodge. The mother Francesca seems to be coming around to Nina and recognizing her as a daughter and a member of the family. The mysteries still thicken regarding the treasure of the massive house, who set the fire, and are the presumed dead still alive?? I guess we have to wait for book #3 to find out.
So many different stories developing throughout the book to contribute to the bigger plot! In Return to Whitmore, Katie Winters brings to life a remarkable story of love, loyalty, deceit, and mystery. I couldn’t wait to get back to reading it, but at the same time I did not want it to end! AND it did not END! A cliffhanger waiting to be solved in her next book, Ocean of Secrets!
Editing could use some work. Right at the beginning Daniel was called an anthologist rather than an anthropologist. This was corrected several pages later. I believe the three books in this series could have easily been condensed into one standard length book. One book just leads to the next like it is just starting another chapter. The story is an interesting one though.
Oh this is getting good. I loved how Nina and Charlotte come together. Second chance for Charlotte & Vincent??? Please write fast, I can’t wait to sink my teeth into some Whitmore secrets. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
