Children of the Gore
In the far future of the year 2032, life in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the United States of America is a daily fight for survival and precious vital resources. Roving bands of bloodthirsty degenerates, their minds addled by the morality-deteriorating effects of death metal’s influence, prowl the desolate landscape in search of victims to rob and torture.
Amidst this horrifically bleak dystopian setting, a small paramilitary faction known as Defense Condition carves out a life for themselves by mounting their motorcycles and standing tall against the tyranny of the nefarious death-worshiping hordes. This tight-knit band of rogues are about to go up against the ultimate evil.
Led by a deadly femme fatale, one sect of demonic maniacs overshadows all others in the severe extremes of their merciless occult savagery. They are the most ruthlessly satanic blood-fiends to ever walk this Earth. They are the legions of hell. They are the descendants and acolytes of death metal royalty. They are the Children of the Gore.
This novel is a stand alone sequel to the extreme horror novel Genital Rot. It takes place years later, with a new cast of characters, and does not necessitate any prior reading.

This one is a flawlessly paced wild ride through a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It's unrelenting, brutal and bleak.
You don't need to read Genital Rot to enjoy it, but I thought having done so improved the experience. The vibe was, surprisingly, completely different though, it's really its own thing. Where Genital Rot reveled in the violence and brutality Children of the Gore indulges in it.

Children of the Gore is a 4‑star, splatterpunk‑apocalypse fever dream that feels like someone took Mad Max, fed it three energy drinks and a death‑metal vinyl, and then dared it to behave. Spoiler: it absolutely does not behave.
This one isn’t trying to be subtle. It’s a full‑throttle, blood‑red, metal‑soaked dystopia where the world has already ended and everyone left is either unhinged, armed, or riding a motorcycle like it’s a religious calling. The year 2032 has never looked so feral.
⚙️ The vibe of this book is pure:
post‑apocalyptic chaos,
death‑metal cult energy,
splatterpunk swagger,
and “we ride at dawn because everything else is on fire”.
Defense Condition — the ragtag paramilitary crew — is exactly the brand of gritty, stubborn survivors you expect in a wasteland ruled by degenerates whose brains have been marinated in metal and bad decisions. They’re rough, loyal, and absolutely ready to throw hands with anything demonic, human, or somewhere in between.
And then the Children of the Gore show up, led by a femme‑fatale nightmare with the charisma of a cult leader and the aesthetic of someone who would absolutely win a “most likely to summon hell for fun” award. They’re not just villains; they’re a whole vibe — theatrical, occult, and dialed up to eleven.
🎸 What makes it fun:
It’s high‑octane from page one.
The worldbuilding is ridiculous in the best way — metal‑worshipping wasteland cults? Yes.
The tone is self‑aware, leaning into the absurdity without ever winking too hard.
It feels like a grindhouse comic book that grew legs and sprinted into the desert.

This is a stand alone sequel to Genital Rot, which takes place 20 years later. A post-apocalyptic action horror, whereas Genital Rot was an extreme horror, this story is just as gripping, exciting, and powerful. It's also brutal, the killings depicted within are barbaric, bloody and remorseless.
20 years later and the effects of the band Genital Rot and their worshipping fans is being felt more than ever, it's tearing America apart and the results are devastating. The Children of Gore are rising up and bringing devastation and corruption with them, challenged only by Defense Condition, a group of adults intent on overpowering the children.
Oliver paints a very bleak apocalyptic landscape, where survival is key, however that may come about.
This is a fast paced story, with lots of action-packed, relentless, remorseless and extremely violent fight scenes, and some absolutely badass weaponry. Weaponry that is matched only by the savage kills they dish out!
Depravity, debauchery, gore, sex....and so much leather and metal! Ending in all out bloody chaos and carnage!

“To the bitter dregs!!”
As a huge fan of James Oliver’s earlier novel Genital Rot, I was hyped to jump back into this world, and it does not disappoint. Children of the Gore is a fast, fun, and completely unhinged splatterpunk ride that delivers everything you could want from high-octane post-apocalyptic horror.
Set in the desolate wasteland of the year 2032, the story pits Defense Condition,a motorcycle-riding paramilitary group against the Children of the Gore, an occult, death metal-worshiping cult led by a lethal femme fatale. The narrative instantly evokes the golden era of 1980s post-apocalyptic cult cinema, combining the heavy-metal road chaos of Mad Max 2 with the schlocky, grindhouse charm of classics like 1990: The Bronx Warriors, 2020 Texas Gladiators, and Warriors of the Year 2072.
While it easily lives up to the extreme horror legacy of Genital Rot, the time jump and brand-new cast mean you can dive right into this standalone sequel without needing any prior reading. The book trades subtlety for sheer momentum, serving up non-stop action, over-the-top violence, and pure B-movie energy. If you love retro post-apocalyptic action films and unapologetic splatterpunk gore, this book is an absolute blast.
As a side note, fans of post apocalyptic films (including the ones I’ve mentioned here, and those James states were influential in writing this book) should also check out Pulse Videos “After the World Ends” book by Claude Gaillard, which covers all the films from A Boy and His Dog (1975) to Escape from L.A. (1996), complete with interviews with cast and crew.
Word of warning though, if you collect physical media like I do, this book could become an expensive shopping list of trashy cinema!

If Rober E. Howard had instead of writing Conan as a barbarian, he created a metalhead with a penchant for a more extreme sex & violence, he’d still barely be licking the boots of James Oliver’s Defense Condition in this Metalpocalypic Hellscape. This is a sequel to his novel Genital Rot, but I have not read that book yet, and I had no trouble appreciating the story. It’s over the top, brutal, and fun. If you like your post-apocalyptic fiction to be pedal to the metal and balls out, you can’t go wrong with Children of the Gore by James Oliver.

Genital Rot jizzed all over the world and this is what we got.
It’s like Thunderdome had a bastard with Dr. Satan, then immediately gave that baby a swirly in the gross toilet bowl of some shithole where local death metal bands play.
Then James Oliver came in, punched everyone in the face, painted the walls in gore, and basically bombed the whole thing with cocaine and hit fast-forward, resulting in fast-paced anxiety, nausea, and an extended bloody slash zone.
It’s filthy, deranged, disgusting, and I loved it.

This book is fucking awesome. I really dug the metal + post-apocalyptic Mad Maxesque aesthetic. The story is a brutal splatterpunk adventure through a heavy metal wasteland with vibrant bloodthirsty characters and constant action. I couldn't put it down! Having not yet read Genital Rot, the story is definitely stand-alone so one does not need to read GR first, though after reading, I bumped GR to the top of my TBR.
