Rate this book
A Witch Burdened by Prophecy

After a failed attempt at freedom, Nova is back where she started—in the claws of the Vahls. Only this time she isn’t alone. Killian Cyrus Zroñ, the Ižavore of Eisera, refuses to leave her side. After the Vahls explain their weaponized substance, Nova and Killian must escape for help. To a lost land—the Witchlands—where the prophecy Nova was told begins to come to light. After uncovering their secrets, she’s tasked to complete a ritual of the Witches and discover whether she is really the Daughter of the Dead or nothing but another false prophet.

A Shadow Cloaked in Secrecy

Grief is as heavy as the crown on Elaia Zūne’s head, the new High Shade of Rersa. With revenge pricking at her fingertips, Elaia is hyper focused on the Order of the Ashes—despite the danger of the Vahls lurking in Rersa’s shadows. With the promise of lost ones returned, by way of the Vahls peculiar substance, and safety sworn to those she loves, Elaia can rise from the ashes of her grief or drown in the shadows of her pain.

A Serpent Adrift in the Current

Syrena, the Reyna of Iyvia, is tired of the world crumbling under foot, but the wreckage is only just beginning. After escaping the Vahls, Syrena returns home—only to find her crown has been stolen and she is now painted a liar. After her escape, she is determined to spread word of the crumbling surface of Valora and the Vahls—but everything she once believed begins to shatter at her touch. Syrena must find the strength to bear the pain of lies and discover the truth, or collapse under the pressure.

it was such an agreeable experience to be immersed once again in the world of Velora with this second installment in the series. K. Jamila’s prose remains beautifully poetic and deeply tragic, pulling me through a tumult of emotions across nearly 700 pages. a masterpiece nonetheless.

the anticipation of finally meeting Nova and following her journey was fully met, especially when it came to discovering more about her powers and the agonizing slow-burn romance she was entangled in. the cast of characters did not disappoint either, and i absolutely fell in love with Syrena in this book; her storyline was heartbreaking, especially alongside the one i presume to be her love interest (no names for spoiler’s sake).

even though every character carried their share of pain, Elaia’s voice stood out to me. it was written with such sorrow, such an elegiac tone, that it genuinely made me cry. her love triangle only deepened that emotional weight, and i honestly can’t even begin to imagine who she might end up with.

i loved revisiting these incredible, diversified characters and being transported back into a world shaped by complex politics and such a well-structured, immersive world-building. this installment definitely surpassed the previous one for me, especially in terms of storytelling, character development, depth, and the evolution of the romance arcs.

many thanks to Legend Literary Management and the author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review

I am not trying to be dramatic or anything but this book series is changing my brain! The characters are complex and interesting! We are two books deep and no banging (which is sooo refreshing) October can not come soon enough so I can devour the 3rd book! It has one of those plot lines that just sticks with you on the best way possible!

"You are hope. You are not an imposter when we whisper the prophecies to you. You are not being made to fit something not created for you. It is you."

Thank you for the ARC copy!!

Ohhhhhhh my god. Okay. This book had me in an absolute chokehold. It consumed me, entirely.

All of these characters are going through so damn much. And all of them have completely separate drives, which is amazing for having a main cast of at least a dozen important MCs. And they're all so different! You love some. You hate some. But each of them have a clear cut image of who THEY are, and how they fit into all of this.

Jamila really handed you these characters, let you fall in love with them, build these emotional connections, and then says " Syke!" and puts your heart through the shredder. The betrayal, the love, the anger, the hope, the sadness, the grief....God, it's ALL here.

And I don't know how Jamila manages to juggle all these story lines, but they are HERE and they are CONSISTENT.

It has been such a pleasure to be an ARC reader to this. I'm completely hooked. I await book 3 eagerly. And now, I'm going to take 7-10 business days to recover.

THIS BOOK!!! wow i think i am in shock because WHAT JUST HAPPENED in the last few chapters?! i am very excited for october now because everything will be ok in book 3 (right???) but uh that was soooooooo good! this is book two in a series (book one is daughter of the dead) and i did find the first half of this one to be a bit slower paced but it ended up setting up very well for the rest of the book (being very vague because i don’t want to spoil anything). the magic in this world is very unique and a refreshing change from some of the fantasy i have read recently. please mind the content warnings going into this series; it’s not a cozy fantasy by any means, but i think some of the themes explored (such as grief, depression, emotional manipulation/torture) are powerful and really bring you into the story. overall masterfully written and i am thoroughly distraught and would like to give these characters a big hug…some of them at least!

Are you kidding me?? This book was absolutely amazing! I don't want to spoil anything but omg the way I want to to tell you EVERYTHING!!!

This is literally giving Thone of Glass with the amount or world building, character development, the feminine rage, this book literally sucked me into the world. Each character has their our journey that has connections. I absolutely ate up the all povs we get in this book! The slow burn has so much tension and yearning.. a simple kiss had me absolutely giggling and kicking my feet like a crazy person. This book is going to make you feel every emotion!

I love all the characters so much. Every single one of them is so thought out and has such an impact in this book! Even the horses, love them!!! I literally couldn't get enough of each of their journeys. The ending literally made my mouth drop! I absolutely can not wait to get the next book!

K. Jamila's second book in the Remnants of Rage series, Raven of the Scorned, will have readers anxiously reading as they see what happens with our three leading ladies. For fans of epic high fantasy, deep world building, complex characters, political intrigue, prophecies, and humans able to wield magic, like those in Avatar: The Last Airbender series, this is for you.

Our story begins immediately after the events of the first one. Nova, after her failed attempt, is now back to where she started, but this time, she has someone with her: Killian. Together, they go on a journey to discover the truth of who she is and what makes her special, and what has become of their world. Elaia has achieved her dream of becoming High Shade, but at what cost. In her quest for the throne, will she remember those who supported her in the process, or will she be too blind to realize something is off. Syrena realizes something is off after the Elders were killed, and the events she witnessed at Eisera proves that she was right, but she only has pieces of a large puzzle. When she returns home, no one believes her, and she is cast away in hopes that someone would.

Power. Glory. Greed. Control. Every aspect of this story shows how those who want power will do whatever it takes to get it, and those already at the helm will do whatever it takes to stay that way. You can't help but feel that sometimes it feels too relatable to life. Sure, joining a clandestine society to help achieve your goals is great, but secret societies have lasted years because they have control from the shadows. You're a mere puppet and they pull the strings. You can't help but feel for Elaia at certain points. She is doing everything for those she loves, but sometimes by doing so, you start to feel distant from them, making your spiral. Syrena has lived her life trying to prove that she can be the leader her nation needs her to be, but sometimes, you can put your faith in the wrong person. They use manipulation and propaganda to lead those away from you, no matter how hard you try. Nova and Killian realize that they have some sort of connection with the other, but as they journey to discover the truth, they realize why that may be. Together, not only do they learn to trust each other and have honest communication, they learn the secrets of what Mireya and Mikel are really up to. Growing up with no one, it is hard to communicate with anyone, let alone trust them with your life. Nova and Killian's slow burn relationship shows how to nurture a healthy relationship with someone who doesn't know what it's like to have human connection. All you need is someone to see you for you.

If I thought that there was a lot happening in the first story, this one has 10x more action, plot, and twists and turns that had me glued to the screen despite being tired from working all day. All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to see what our leading ladies will discover next.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from K. Jamila and Legends Literary Management for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. My intentions are to write feedback that reflects my genuine thoughts and is written with the book’s genre and target audience in mind. I aim to review fairly and respectfully, focusing on the story’s purpose.

“You are hope. You are not an imposter when we whisper the prophecies to you. You are not being made to fit something not created for you. It is you.”

—4.75 stars—

An epic romantic fantasy soaked in blood, tears, and pain, Raven Of The Scorched picks up where Daughter Of The Dead left off and delivers another riveting venture into the world of Velora. With power-hungry villains, beautifully complex protagonists, and a healthy dose of desperation, I was utterly entranced (and stressed out my mind) from start to finish.

With several new POVs being introduced, each plays their own part in the story, which is beginning to fit together. K. Jamila juggles their separate storylines and the overarching plot so well, keeping me on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns as the plot begins to come together. Honestly, i’m not sure i’m ever going to recover from those finishing chapters!

As with book one, the entire cast of characters is so well written. Their varying motivations and flaws made them so realistic, and for most, easy to root for. Unsurprisingly, Nova stole my heart just as easily as she did in book one. Her beginning to accept her past and what she has done for survival played a key part in her character growth here, and i loved every word of it! The slowburn building between her and Killian continues to give me life, and even their smallest touches are so precious to me. The way K J writes their interactions is so beautiful, and they truly complete each other.

Elaia’s chapters were some of the most heartwrenching. Her grief was so well written, and i found the different facets of her character—both her rage and desire to burn it all down combined with her crushing need to protect the people and kingdom she loves—such a good example of how trying to do the right thing looks different to different people. I also could never choose between Xerxes and Zahra for her, so i’m keeping my fingers crossed that both will be an option.

Syrena is someone i found entirely intriguing with the few appearances she had in book one, and i was so happy to see more of her here! A ruler who truly loves her kingdom and people while simultaneously grieving her elder brother, i felt for her so much, and loved getting to see a little more of her personality and character (including her lingering feelings for a particular someone).

Finally, I can’t go without mentioning the incredible worldbuilding, which has me utterly hooked. Especially in this book, there’s so many layers to the lore and different aspects coming into play, which is combined with the already impressive vibrant descriptions of each kingdom and magic system to make something breathtaking. The malevolent thread running through each significant event grows drastically here, and while i’m eagerly anticipating book three, i’m also frankly a little scared of what it will bring for my favourite characters…

(many thanks to K. Jamila and Legends Literary Management for this digital ARC! all thoughts and opinions are my own.)

Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily and all thoughts are my own.

In many ways I liked this even more than the first one. The writing was beautiful and haunting, the story was amazing and so well crafted, and I really enjoyed seeing everything unfold. But in other ways I struggled... There was so much pain, so much fear, anger, grief, that it could become slightly suffocating at times. I missed seeing some more balance in between all the hardships; every single character we follow was basically at their lowest throughout most of the book, and it was a lot. It's not that it doesn't make sense or it doesn't work for the story – but I had a hard time getting through it when so much of the book was full of sadness and pain and not much else. It was a lot to be exposed to all the time, and it made the book feel longer than it was (which was already pretty long). But I also really appreciated how the author didn't shy away from the hard and ugly feelings and really focused on the inner workings of these women. And it's such a grand, detailed, and magnificent world with so much to uncover and delve into. The skill was so clear throughout, and the way everything slowly came together was impressive.

So, you can see why it's so difficult for me to rate. I truly do think the story is amazing and I'm still so excited to continue the series. But I also have to acknowledge the fact that it took me a very long time to read (compared to my normal reading habits), because I struggled with the highly depressing themes that were pretty constant. And again: I get it. Maybe it's just a personal preference, and I need a bit more uplifting and hopeful elements sprinkled throughout a story. But I still have to take that into account when it's something that affected my overall enjoyment of the book.

Anyway... A beautiful, dark, and utterly haunting sequel to an amazing series that takes hurting your feelings very seriously. And if you enjoy epic, badass moments and twisty revelations, you will not be disappointed. I'll leave you with a direct (and very well-articulated) quote from my notes during reading, which I think sums everything up pretty neatly: "Crazy things happening, man."

"I don't want someone else." He pressed forward, their noses touching, their lips only a breath away. "I want whatever you are willing to give me." His eyes sharpened. "And I don't believe in Gods. I believe in you."

ARC Review - Thank you Katie for sending me an advanced copy!

4.25/5 rounded up

This fantasy series is wholly unique with its use of blood magic, elemental magic, and a unique plague that is impacting the world in many ways. The story is a third-person multiple POV story following our three FMCs Nova, Elaia and Syrena. They each are affected by the plague in different ways and in different corners of the world. It could easily have been chaotic to follow, but Katie masterfully weaves in and out of the story lines in a digestible way!

Nova: our blood bending witch's arc is all about the themes of sacrifice and self. She has been raised solely as a weapon to be wielded and throughout this story, she learns about her role in the world - and it is all about continued sacrifice. Her story contains a love interest and he is EVERYTHING. He never is frightened of her and is willing to give up everything for her and I adore them so much!

Elaia: my messy, messy girl. Elaia's journey goes through grief and how it can affect your life and your choices. She lives in constant fear of what else could be taken from her, which leads to suffocating those connections. Her fear grows into anger and the need for retribution and closure, leading to more decisions. Of the three FMCs, she is the most flawed - but I find that to be a STRENGTH. I love a dynamic character who is so relatable - and grief can truly bring out the worst in ourselves. Elaia is for the Nesta girlies!

Syrena: this poor girl GOES THROUGH IT in this book. From her world seeming to crumble around her, to being reunited with a former love that seems to want nothing to do with her, she is in a position where she wants to help the world and figure out the source of the plague, yet no one seems to be listening. Yet she perseveres. She is such an inspiration!

The ending of this story leaves all three FMCs in different precarious situations and I cannot wait for book three!

This series is for fans of strong and dynamic FMCs, unique magic, and layered mythology. Do not miss out on this series!

This book will sit with me for a while! There are so many stunning details that are woven together so perfectly throughout the series.

Nova’s journey is so difficult to explain. Even with her dark past you can’t help but to root for her in every way. Seeing the weight she carries, the abuse she endures is humbling and heartbreaking. I love the way this book was written because even though I wanted to see the best things happen for one of my favorite characters, I like that I wasn’t rewarded because I felt entitled to it. She needs to go through this in order to reach the actual goal.

Elaia frustrates me to know end but I truly love her. She is flawed and imperfect and I think that we are so used to seeing FMC‘s who maybe make a mistake or two but end up getting it right right away and that disrupts how we see this character. To me, she is the most human FMC that I’ve read in a very long time. She is blinded by grief and independent to a fault. I can personally relate to her in that way. Her journey in this book was devastating.

Syrena it’s just realistic. She is not a fighter. She has lived a very sheltered life in comparison to our other FMC’s in this book. It makes perfect sense that she isn’t immediately what we want her to be. I loved seeing her growth. I absolutely loved getting to know her better and see her coming into own power on her own terms.

I cried, I cheered, I felt buried emotions of my own. By fire, blood and shattered dreams, you see these characters break and grow and break again. It is truly an art to create characters that are so flawed but are still relatable, beloved and worthy of redemption. Shout out to Killian because I truly love every single part of him and Tomas was an unexpected piece of gold for me please protect them at all cost!

This is Book 2 in the Remnants of Rage series and it has firmly been implanted in my brain!! I am NOT okay, I'm still processing lol. If I haven’t convinced you to pick up a book before… let this be the one you make space for on your shelf. Plus, LOOK AT ALL THE GORGEOUS ART!!! It really helped immerse me into this world.

In this sequel, we’ve back with Nova, Elaia, and Syrena navigating their own world of adventure and chaos. They each face all kinds of trials and tribulations, all while having to make tough choices, deal with heartache and deceit. Their growth from the first book feels so raw and earned and seeing my sweet baby Nova come out of her shell made me so happy. her and killian don't even kiss until like 85% in !!! Thats a true slow burn.

The magic system and world building is so unique and refreshing. Every step of the way I’m questioning my sanity and coming up with theories, only for it to be snatched up from under me. I truly cannot wait until October to find out what happens next especially after that ending (but I will 😮‍💨) Infinite stars all around!!!

Raven of the Scorned is a really strong follow-on from Daughter of the Dead, although I’ll be honest - it took me a little while to get back into it.

There’s a lot going on in this world, and because I’d left a gap between books, I didn’t quite remember enough detail at the start to feel fully grounded. If you can, I’d definitely recommend reading these back to back.

Once I was back in though, I was all in.

This book really leans into the journeys of Nova, Elaina and Syrena, and I loved spending more time with each of them as their stories continue to unfold. Their paths are very different, but all feel connected by the same growing tension around power, loyalty and the wider political landscape.

Nova’s storyline continues to carry a lot of emotional weight, especially as she navigates trust and the consequences of past choices. Elaina’s journey adds a different perspective, with her strength and determination really coming through, and Syrena’s arc still feels like it’s only just beginning - but there’s a clear sense that her role is going to become much bigger.

The relationships are also really well handled - there’s definitely romance here, but it’s more about the tension, the uncertainty, and the slow build of feeling rather than anything overly dramatic or rushed. Lots of longing, a bit of heartbreak, and that sense of almost that keeps you hooked.

The multiple POVs work well again, giving a wider view of what’s happening across the world and building that sense that something much bigger is coming.

By the second half I was completely hooked and didn’t want to put it down.

A really enjoyable continuation of the series - more character-driven, more layered, and definitely setting things up for what’s to come next.

Raven of the Scorned
By: K Jamila
Releases: tomorrow, March 19th

4.75⭐️

Yall. I had a hard time putting this one down. Every chapter had me dying to know what happened next and not wanting to adult.

There was so much action, adventure/journeying, emotional rollercoasters, betrayal, treachery, acceptance, HOPE, and love. I struggled with the pacing in book one, but this one just kept me pulled in the whole time. AND THAT ENDING?! Ugh, now I have to wait til October!!

I know I mentioned it a bit in book one’s review but I am literally obsessed with the Avatar the Last Airbender vibes and the elemental bendings. Definitely a bit nostalgic for me in that aspect and makes me want to go rewatch the series.

The romances in this one really started unfolding and my heart is feeling all the things …

Nova/Killian - not alone anymore, one bed moment

Elaia/Zahra/Xerxes - love triangle in which I cannot decide who I want Elaia to be with

Syrena/Amari - second chances, one horse moment

🐦‍⬛ What to expect:
• blood bending FMC
• morally grey characters & antiheroes
• elemental and naturalist magic system
• multiple slow (slow!) burn romances
• ВІРОС multipov
• female rage, grief, and journeys of acceptance
• heavy world building & lots of lore
• political intrigue
• prophetic visions, lost worlds & witches
• witches and dragons (oh my!)

Thank you Katie and Legends Literary Management for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Raven of the Scorned takes the momentum from book one and expands it — deeper world-building, more layered characters, and twists and action that make this a true page-turner.

Once again, Nova finds herself captive to the Vahls, but this time she’s more determined than ever to fight for her freedom — and this time she’s not alone.

Elaia is still carrying the weight of her grief, and it continues to shape her decisions both politically and personally.

Syrena survives her journey home only to find her crown stolen and herself imprisoned. Moved from one cell to another, she finds help in the last place she expected.

All three FMCs are still navigating grief, failure, and the unknown. Each of their journeys is filled with tension, twists, and immersive world-building.

And the romance? So good.
Three slow burns with Xerxes, Killian, and Amari each MMC supportive in his own way, adding depth and emotional weight that kept me fully invested.

The supporting cast was just as strong. Rohan and Tomas felt grounding and steadfast, while I genuinely loathed every villain… Torin, Farah, the Vahls, and the Order.

All of these elements come together to make Raven of the Scorned a gripping, action-packed sequel.

If you love multiple POVs, slow-burn romance, and high-stakes fantasy, this is absolutely one to pick up.

Thank you to Legends Literary Management and K. Jamila for the ARC — I cannot wait for book three.

I need to admit this took me longer to read than I anticipated. I’m unsure if it’s because I jumped into the series without having read the first book or because of the writing style itself. Probably a fair mix of both. The heavy themes were appropriate for the type of story this is but I would have preferred some uplifting elements to be proportional. The world building is intense, detailed, and well rounded but some of the characters were suffocating me at times. I greatly enjoyed the story unfolding but the jumps between characters jarred me to say the least.
It was tough jumping into the second book without having read the first one. Obviously so much has happened and the first few chapters are reeling with fast-paced scenes and information. I would say by chapter 5 I had a decent understanding of what occurred for Killian and Nova but the names of characters and places remind me of classic fantasy and were difficult to keep track of at times. Trying to introduce so much in such a short time span was dizzying as a reader (who, again, hadn’t read the first book). It was several more chapters before I had a more in depth understanding of the backstory for the characters.

I enjoyed there being multiple stories going on at once and having a few different “main” characters however, it’s extremely frustrating trying to keep track of how much time has passed because of the jumps between characters.

Thank you to K. Jamila and her team for the advanced copy!

This is book 2! Book 2 picks up right where Daughter of the Dead ends and wastes no time gently leading you back into the world. Nova is once again in the Vahls clutches and her and Killian need to figure out how to escape. Elaia is dealing with the fallout of her actions in trying to become high shade and Syrena comes home to a very different welcome than she’s expecting.

I felt like in this book the POVs were all really well balanced with each other- Nova has slightly more as she’s the main POV but you get a lot more of Syrena as well. The are other POVs woven in and it feels natural and I’m curious to see how they appear in book 3.

Book 2 is more action packed than book 1 with our characters each progressing on their own journeys, each learning to trust themselves and their power. Nova and Elaia are definitely morally gray with Syrena a shining light next to them. Jamila is also great at adding necessary lore and world building without it being overwhelming. I also appreciate that while there are romantic relationships they’re not the main focus. This book does end on a cliff hanger for all 3 POVs so I’m excited to see how it unfolds in book 3!

Thank you to K. Jamila for this ARC!

This sequel takes everything from the first book and really raises the stakes, especially as the world starts to physically break apart.

K. Jamila has a great way with words. Her writing is so vivid that it’s easy to picture everything happening like a movie. Whether it’s the dark beauty of Nova’s blood magic in the Vahl capital, the heavy pressure of the deep sea rifts Syrena has to face, or the creepy shadows surrounding Elaia in the Order of the Ashes, I didn't just feel like I was reading; I was able to fully immerse in the world.

My favorite part was the mix of betrayal, drama, and love. The mind games within the Order kept me guessing, but the emotional side is what really got to me. The romance isn’t just a side story; it actually drives the characters. Seeing the ride or die bond between Nova and Killian compared to the messy, dark tension of Elaia’s choice between Zahra and Xerxes was intense. Every betrayal felt earned, and the love felt like it had a real price.

If you love high-fantasy with complicated characters and a world that’s falling apart, you should definitely check out Raven of the Scorned. I’m ready for Book 3!

You know how sequels sometimes don’t hit as hard as the first book? Yeah… this is not one of those. Raven of the Scorned actually outdoes Daughter of the Dead.

It picks up right where book one ends and immediately throws you back into the chaos, in the best way. The emotional rollercoaster is real: one minute you’re fully invested, the next you’re shocked, then suddenly your heart hurts.

We’re back with Nova, Elaia, and Syrena, each dealing with their own mess: uncovering secrets, making tough choices, and dealing with the fallout. Their individual arcs shine, but the way they intertwine makes the story even stronger.

The writing is elite, the magic systems are rich with the blood bending, elemental magic, shadow wielding, and animal companions, the world building continues to make me long to visit places that don’t actually exist. That ending? DIABOLICAL.

I needed the next book yesterday! Especially since we’re getting **redacted**! If this series isn’t on your TBR, please add it to the top!

I need everyone to stop what they are doing and start this series!!! We get 3 unique FMCs that have their own stories (so fun POV switches) and we can feel they’re all connected but haven’t quite seen the crossovers yet. Tension is building!!!!

Nova, the blood bending MAIN main character is leveling up and locking the fuck in during this book!! I’m absolutely loving how real she feels. She’s strong but she lowkey doesn’t want to be and sometimes I can relate to that!

Elaia is a shadow bender absolutely lost in grief… meaning bad choices are made by her… I support women’s right and women’s wrongs but she’s making it a little hard!! I’ve enjoyed seeing another side of her though with Xerses though I still love her with Zahra. Bisexual love triangles >>

And then we have Syrena who bends water! I’m so happy we got more focus on her this book because we didn’t see her much in book one but I loved her from the jump. Resilience level 1000!!! I looked forward to her chapters the most.

The ending of the book UGH those last 30 mins had me gasping repeatedly. Give me book three now!!!!!!

Thank you to the author for an arc copy xoxo

The first book in this series has completely captivated me, and this book is no exception. It's thrilling, emotional and impossible to put down. I was quickly drawn into the story, particularly because the different perspectives are executed so well. Each character feels distinct and complex, with their own motivations and struggles that kept me engaged. I grew attached to the cast, even when they made frustrating choices, because their journeys through grief, power, and identity felt so real. The worldbuilding and magic system are rich and unique, adding depth without ever feeling overwhelming. It can be quite heavy and emotionally intense at times, but that’s also what makes it so impactful. By the end, I was completely hooked and I'm still thinking about the ending, and it has left me eagerly awaiting the third book! Thanks to K. Jamila for this eARC!

Thank you to K. Jamila for an advanced reader copy of this book.

4.5 stars - a phenomenal sequel! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. There were high stakes, adventure, action, and high emotions! This book had multiple POVs and I cared about all of them! I love how the story is progressing and the pacing was well done! The magic system still stands out to me and I loved it really leveled up in this sequel.

And each of the romantic subplots were fantastic. One slow burn with a stubborn fmc and reassuring mmc, one with an old flame that disappeared on her, and one with two interests who both care in different ways. I was hooked on all three!

Sometimes I found the writing a bit repetitive, but it didn’t take away from the story at all! I was turning page after page, entirely invested.

I can’t wait to see what happens next I am floored!

WOW! I am so grateful for having been able to read this arc and what an experience it was! My favorite aspect to this story was the way K. Jamila does not shy away from dealing with heavier themes and has made such powerfully impactful, complex characters. Our three main fmcs are rich with those complexities. Their experiences are very honest and real even though this is a fantasy setting. Each characters growth whether in an ascending manner or otherwise was handled with such care and eloquence. The world is vivid and I found myself happy to sit in. I felt deeply immersed. The first book Daughter of the Dead was a fantastic beginning to an epic tale and, for me, this sequel does not fall short. The bar has been raised again. Thank you K Jamila for telling this story and I can not wait for the next installment, I need to know what happens next!!

Raven of the Scorned picks up right where Daughter of the Dead left off. If you love intricate and multiple storylines, this series is for you.

We follow three main storylines with multiple POVs. All are fighting in their own ways against the true evil of the world. These characters are messy and morally grey at times, which leasts to lots of angst and anguish.

The story moves a bit slow for me. There's a lot of telling instead of showing along with a bunch of info dumps. The world is rich with lore, and sometimes it felt very complex for me. I do love seeing the characters internal struggles with how they each attempt to protect their people and make the world a better place. This is a planned 5 book series, so there's plenty of story left, and I'm very intrigued by dragons!

Thank you to the author for the eARC.

The yearning in this book!!!! Katie writes such phenomenal slow burn, it is going to take me a while to recover (in the best way). Raven of the Scorned truly had me feeling all the feelings.

I am absolutely loving the way the story is developing. I love Nova, Elaia, and Syrena. I think Syrena was my favorite in this one but I was fully invested in all three storylines so there was never a POV that I didn't want to read.

I am so curious to see what happens next in this series so I will be patiently but excitedly waiting for book three in October.

I would absolutely recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of super slow burns, complex characters, and expansive world building.

Thanks to K. Jamila for the ARC!

UM WHAT!! This book was nonstop fun. I was honored to receive an ARC from K. Jamila and this journey has been a WHIRLWIND!

The characters are complex and imperfect, but you can’t help but love them even when you’re screaming, “Nooooo, don’t do THAT!” The subject matter can be heavy at times, but Jamila does a great job of adding in bits of softness and rest that the characters (and the reader needs).

This is true feminine rage at its finest. It’s so refreshing to read a book that has so many interesting and strong and vulnerable and wonderful female characters. Not sure how I’ll survive waiting for book three!!

This book has been so refreshing. I’ve enjoyed how complex the characters are and how they remain complex and their stories still grow from book 1 to now. K Jamila has created a beautiful and ugly world to fall in love with, to be angry with, and to want better for. I love the way she shows all of the different ways to love and be loved by someone. Her ability to illustrate grief creates space for us to reckon with how we make decisions while experiencing it; the good, the bad, and the desperate.

I am so excited for book 3 to release and to see how our heroines overcome their own challenges.

What a beautiful second installation. It was as dark as it was lovely. I’ve come to care for Nova deeply. I’ve come to have concern for Elaia and her choices. I’ve come to fear for Syrena and her future. The slow barn romances are really top-notch. And I usually don’t care for them. However, the author does a wonderful job of weaving these stories in such a way that makes you really invested in these characters, struggles, and futures.

I am at a loss for words. What are you doing to me Katie. This was an absolutely amazing read, but it took my heart and gave me so much anxiety I had to slow down after I got to part 3 when I realized this story was gonna tear me to shreds. Part 4 & 5 absolutely ruined me and still I am yearning for the rest of the story and I can’t wait to see how all of this plays out. 10/10 ⭐️

Thank you to Legends Literary Management and Katie for this absolutely wonderful ARC read!
I absolutely devoured Book One of this series and have been patiently waiting for this book. It has not failed me. It’s just as beautiful as the first book! The journey continues and it is an absolutely amazing journey! Each character has their own emotional depth and connection that draws you in further into the series. It is a truly captivating book that reels you in straight from book one. The plot within this book was even more explosive and addictive. I can’t wait for the next book and see what happens next!
