1st time read.
And I'm glad I did. Not for literary reasons, but to compare it with the Bible and Qur'aan (few parts that I've read in English --again, for the sake of comparison with the Bible-- anyway.)
These are my dos centavos.
1) Ahooraa is the exact same God as the Abrahamic one; Do Whatever I Tell You or Else. With one and a distinct major difference: [s]he, asks subjects for assistance, collaboration and cooperation to kick Ahriman's ass. He also appears to be very environment friendly (be it animals, rivers, mountains, or whatever.) So that's excellent.
2) [S]He is totally politically-correct and preaches --constantly-- good thinking, good talking and good behaving (that is also excellent.)
3) But Ahooraa Mazdaa is a mighty crafty (read tricky) god too. For instance, being at odds with an innocent Ahriman, does not fit his 'Righteous' spirit. So knowing Ahriman's weaknesses, he creates the earthly world --with all its enticing/inviting glamour-- for Ahriman to commit 'Sin' and then the s... is ON. That shows Ahooraa's Iranian-ness :-)
But joking aside, looks like Zarathustra was deeply influenced by Buddha's thinking and more in line with his views on things 'sentient'. The mere fact that he tried to convey to the masses that a free mankind, is (or 'Timshel' can be) more than a mere subject, but on par with the skies.
This, however, changed when it got to the Sassanids' times when things began going the Shi'a (and maybe the Catholics') ways.
But, that's another story..............
