Children go visiting to see who wants to play and they find one foal, two calves, three kittens, four piglets, five ducklings, and six puppies, in an adventure-filled counting book.
A cute story that mixes counting, colours, and barnyard animals together into a quick story. The narrator travels around the barn, looking to play with various animals. After much frolicking, everyone is ready to collapse in the hay. Neo likes the story, but is not sure he wants to sleep next to a pig. "A little too smelly, Dad!"
While reading this can get very repetitive, it is wonderful for making animal noises, identifying colors and farm animals, and a good one for an early read-along. Julie Vivas is an excellent artist and her pictures have lots to look at. I am particularly fond of the duck on the "six yellow puppies" page that is clearly body slamming one poor terrified puppy. If it weren't for the antics of the kamikaze duck, the many, many readings of this book might have driven me crazy ages ago.
I think this was a great book for young children because it includes the concepts of counting, colors, and animals. In addition, it rhymes! There are two sentences that are repeating throughout the story so I think it would be a good book to have students help you read. The illustrations were filled with energy and humor and I really liked how they hinted at what animals would be introduced on the next page. Overall, I would give this book 4 stars.
Let's go visiting is a simple story of a child at a farm. It begins by the child asking the dog: Let's go visiting. What do you say? The next page then says "One brown foal is ready to play". The story continues on with this counting pattern with other animals until she gets to six yellow puppies. A great counting book.
She initially refused to let me read the book, but then in a moment of boredom, she let me tread it to her twice.
I'm always a bit concerned that raising her as a vegan child, the farm animal books would be a challenge. But this one is pretty awesome and celebrates animals.
Its a nice book. It talks about baby animals which is a great way to teach children about baby animals. You could also use this book to teach children about farm animals, because most of the animals in this book live on a farm.
I like the concept of "going visiting," because I think that verb (and activity) is receding into history. But this book keeps it alive with a trip to the farm and counting to six. Solid repeating rhyme and structure.
It's cute, but a bit similar to its predecessor "Let's Go Walking." This one does have a few different animals and you count to six ... and some kids do love repetition.
“Lets Go Visiting,” by Sue Williams and illustrated by Julie Vivas, would be absolutely perfect for kindergartners. The book is about, that may be a girl or boy, and the child going on a visit to play with the animals on the farm. This book provides rhyming, counting, exploring oppurtunites for kindergartners. This book have great artwork, and can be used as a math and science introduction piece, because of the animals, and keeping track of them.
This counting book counts baby animals. It's an adventure visiting all of the animals.
The book is written in both Spanish and English and would be good for ELL students to learn English while seeing both their native Spanish and also in English. This would also be good to be used in a classroom if students are learning basic Spanish.
Let's go visiting. What do you say? One brown foal is ready to play. Lets's go visiting. What do you say? Two red calves are ready to play...Three black kittens...Four pink piglets...Five green ducks...Six yellow puppies...No more visiting. No more play. Let's curl up and sleep in the hay.
24 months - we are a bit beyond this book at this point but it is a cute counting book of animals. Would be a good signing book for numbers and animals as well. Of course there are many books that do similar so I wouldn't say this one really stands out.
