I wrote my first book when I was 8 years old. I glued photos of my cats in a blank book and wrote about them, too. Now I am an internationally-published children's author commended by the Library of Congress for my work encouraging children to read.
I write in a room between a deli and an art gallery on a small town street. I can see families walking by, and I can hear children laughing and playing. It helps me to remember what exactly I'm doing this for - creating books for families all over the world to use together, and helping children to love words.

This was interesting. Short and to the point it made it easy to read and great for youngsters attention span. Mine too. ;) I like how you learned a bit but not in big chunks that made it harder to remember and or feel like studying. This is something to read for fun and a little educational too. I would reserve the baby pages for children a little older though. Good for a quick informative but intriguing read. Have fun

1. This book goes through lots of the human body systems each on a two page spread. This book is very detailed and there are captions and pictures that really engage the reader in learning about the different body systems. There are also facts about each system that are posed throughout as you continue to progress through the book-thus relating it back to students!!
2. I used this book as my comprehension strategy book in content literacy, and when I first picked it out I was blown away by the excitement that I was feeling just by looking at the pictures! Now after taking children's and young adult literature, my mind is completely blown. I recommend this book, not just for the structure, but also all the information that is provided to students in such a concise way!
3. Books that I would pair with this... this book could go under the overarching theme of healthy minds for healthy bodies, identity, and change. Books that I could pair this with would include, "I get so Hungry," and the website brain pop on the human body. This book could be interwoven with part of any of these units if you were to complete this in a classroom.
4. "You speak and sing using air from your lungs"-This text could be used an a mentor text when teaching a comprehension strategy, such as summarizing, or determining importance. This book could also be used as book connected with a social justice issue of health, with then the teacher using books that would relate to the topic that you want to focus on in the classroom. This would really give the students a sense of ownership and confidence while reading texts that focus on the concept teachers are presenting at varying student levels and needs.

Really interesting, extremely graphic (in the sense of lots of photos and cool layouts for stats, rather than uncomfortable to look at). Do you want to know what a dust mite looks like up close? Well, then this is the book for you! 2nd grade and up!

Lots of fun facts about the human body. Probably wouldn't interest kids under 6 years old.
