"I like the part when Heidi Heckelbeck has a loose tooth. She wears it around her neck when it falls out, in a tooth necklace. I've never had one of those. The mean girls brags a lot. On picture day she brags about her dress and shakes her butt at the others when she walks away. That's disgusting." -Cadee, age 8
I think that Heidi really learns a lesson. At first, Heidi doesn't want to lose her tooth because she doesn't want to have a hole in her mouth for picture day. But when she does lose her tooth, she is mad. Then she goes up to her room and pulls out her book of spells. She wants to cast a spell to put her tooth back in when her dad comes into her room to see what she's doing. Her dad pulls out a book and shows her pictures of him with missing teeth. He says how cute he was and that Heidi would look cute like that too. She realizes that her dad is right.
Guys, did anyone else love these books as a kid??? I read them all and just realized I haven't marked them as read. I do apologize in advance for invading your feed with all of these. Love y'all! <3
Filled with all the stereotypical portrayals of girls that I hope we can discard someday--gossip, laughing at how others look, a mean girl who they hate and call names, concern and anxiety about how she looks, looking good for her school picture, excitement and interest in what outfit she and others are wearing. BORING. Come on, girls can be much more interesting, brave, caring and unique, but we train them early on to have these shallow qualities and tear each other down. Maybe I picked up the wrong Heidi Hecklebeck book to read?

A perfectly serviceable entry in the series, my little one was quick to point out that FINALLY, Heidi can't/doesn't use witchcraft to solve her problem in this one (that attempt gets nipped in the bud). Still no news on the Principal Pennypacker story arc, though.
