First crush, first love, first kiss - Ava learns about more than her heritage while vacationing in Scotland in this addition to the sweet and clean Flirt series!
Ava is going on vacation to Scotland, where she's supposed to learn more about her Scottish heritage. She's excited to see the castles, abbeys, and coastal hills - and maybe even catch a glimpse of Nessie herself - but Ava doesn't expect to meet Graham.
He's cute, sweet, and has the perfect Scottish accent - but does he like her as much as she likes him?
And if there is something of a mutual attraction there, Ava wonders, is it worth pursuing a crush when she'll be on the other side of the Atlantic in just two weeks?
I visited Scotland while reading this one so it really helped me appreciate the setting descriptions in the book. The plot/romance is absolute fluff (I like fluff) but I definitely could've used more character development and emotion as I was reading. Still, the conflict felt genuine (being scared of liking someone more than they like you is a legit thing) and I appreciate how present the parents are in this book.
Although there were several scenes that had me smiling from ear to ear because of the adorable qualities, I had a few issues with this book. I found myself skimming a lot of the book because it was full of long uninteresting monologues about history. If you are an author that wants to inform me, make the passage more intriguing. I'm not opposed to history but they just went about it in the wrong way. Also, THERE WAS NO CONFLICT! There were about two problems in the whole book. There was no climax. The second anything went wrong ever, it was resolved within seconds. Most of the book contained happy scenes which can be boring if you don't have to work for them. I would like to point out that Graham was really sweet and I did like him. All in all it was not a bad read. All it needs is a little more time with the editing crew.
This book is adorable, and the type I want to crawl inside and make it last forever. Normally character's who speak in dialect irritate me, but Graham has just enough brogue to make him completely swoon-worthy.
Dumb-cute, which is probably a descriptor I use too often. Ava's off in Scotland with her family for two weeks to learn a bit more about their background. (Oddly, this is taken as a one-background thing—that is, nobody seems to consider that Ava's father and her mother might have different family histories/backgrounds/family tartans. Is there something they're not telling us...?)
The book is pretty much split between every stereotypically touristy Scottish thing possible and a romance with a cute Scottish guy (who uses as many stereotypically Scottish words as possible), surprise surprise. But there are some nice things here: Ava knows that the most she can realistically expect is a very short romance, so when things aren't looking great on that front, she doesn't get terribly upset about it. I wish the will-they-won't-they hadn't taken up quite so much space, because it doesn't leave much (any) room for more significant conflict. It's definitely one of those teenage-wish-fulfillment books, where everything falls into place. Ava meets the boy...who happens to be cute, and single, and interested in her...and spending the whole two weeks with her family...and ...
This book was AMAZING it was so beautifully written with an adorable romance. Scotland is such a great destination and the authors really portrayed Scotlands true beauty and intriguing history. Totally recommend! By far my favorite in the flirt series so far!!!
Good for a nice read about young romance. It has plenty of interesting points but also goes back and forth about how people can have mixed emotions. Mostly when it is long distance.
Finished 20 December 2020 - 2 January 2021 What a delightful read about a teenage girl on a family trip in Scotland and experiencing not only the country's marvels, but a new love in her life. Entertaining story Charming characters Enjoyable writing style Recommended to YA contemporary romance fans.
Suuuuuuper cute! Not a whole lot of substance, but who cares? It was the perfect dose of fluff for me. Besides, Graham is a hottie with a sexy as hell accent, and the book takes place in Scotland, so that sealed the deal for me. Ever since I read Anna and the French Kiss, I've had an addiction to books that take place overseas and involve two people falling in love.
I didn't really enjoy this book at all. I liked how the authors depicted Scotland so beautifully, but other than that the characters were annoying and the storyline was far fetched. I especially couldn't get past the fact they were both 15 and head over heels in love, etc. It just made the story seem juvenile and childish. Also a 15 year old boy isn't gonna move to America on his own without his parents??
This story gives me the warm fuzzies in my stomach. All the cute moments between the characters as well as the hopes of fresh love had me smiling consistently. Would it have been nice to have a little bit more character emotion to round them out a bit, yes. But I still enjoyed the story. Very nice quarantine read!
Just a bit of fluff--silly fluff and I was debating on whether or not to admit I read this (anything with Scotland always gets me, I guess.) However, I did like one quote from the book:
p. 127 "I shouldn't miss the chance of something good because I'm too afraid to take a risk."
This book was so cute and adorable!! It made me smile alot throughout the whole book, I felt transported to Scotland. Though some of you may not like it, because there isn't a major conflict, so at times it may feel boring. It's just a straight fluffy romance to go in a sweet adventure
