Howdy! Hi! Hello! This friendly and fun picture book celebrates the greatness of greetings.
Say HELLO! It’s lots of fun. And here are ways it can be done. With a hug. With a shake. With a curtsy. With a cake. With a whisper. With a kiss. With a dance of happiness!
With zippy, rhyming text and bold, exuberant illustrations, this book celebrates the many wonderful ways to say hello to friends, families, pets—or anyone!
diverse picture book (greetings, making friends, kindness / for toddlers/preschool/kinder 2 and up?) from the illustrator who brought us the acclaimed We Love You, Rosie! and who also authored I Love You Nose! I Love You Toes!
* features diverse characters: Yes, though the lighter-skinned kids outnumber the medium- to dark-skinned kids 19:12, including the kids on the book jacket, if you count the lighter-skinned, maybe-Asian, maybe-Hispanic kid in the middle as a POC). All 5 of the adults pictured in the book have light skin. It's maybe not truly representative of a lot of neighborhoods, but I would still count it as "diverse," and it helps that there are equal numbers of darker and lighter-skinned children visible on the front cover. * Suitable for toddler/preschool storytime: Lovely, large and colorful pictures and a small amount of text on each page make this a good choice for a read-aloud, esp. for teachers working on a "greetings" unit (is that a thing? maybe). This story would be too long for the wiggly toddlers in my group, but could work for pre-walkers and their parents, or older toddlers who are more accustomed to circle time (others have commented in their reviews that this went over great with their toddler groups, so this is a definite possibility, esp. if you clip/skip some of the pages to shorten it).

I chose this book because of its bright colors and fun message to young readers. I think this book would be great for ages 3-5 and would help get them excited to start greeting people in their everyday life.
This is a really simple book, but I actually like it a lot. It's all about different ways to say hello, and includes some cute animals and lots of bright colours. A lot of these ways to say hello could be acted out during a storytime (parents hug their kids, whisper in their ears, etc.), although I think I would use it on the first day, so it might not be as interactive. Either way, a good story for really little ones.
This was a great read-aloud at our Story Time for "Littles" the other night! Large pictures and spare text equals just the right mix for babies and toddlers, and we had parents and kids acting out the story of different ways to say hello....such as with a hug...with a shake...with a whisper...and so on! Our families enjoyed it.
Just in case anyone was wondering, there ARE cities in our country with a 127 Sea Lion Dr., but not in Pacifica, CA. Not actually sure if that's a town or not. Anyway, I liked the bright colors and the simplicity of this story for young children.
This is a really fun book to read. I made it interactive by having the children say HELLO with a hug, or a whisper, or a curtsy as the book would suggest them. All ages had fun.
A white background brings bold images to life in the many ways you can say hello. 3-5 words on a page invites room for discussion or is perfect for a read-aloud.
Simple text, great diverse pictures - this one is a sweet book about being friendly to others. It could lead into some great discussions and differences, similarities, and friendliness.
Today we are going to read, Say Hello! On the cover of this book I see some children and a cat. What are they doing? How do you think they are feeling based on their faces and how they are looking at eachother? How do you know they are feeling this way? We have been talking about building friendships and how small acts of kindness can turn someones day around. What random acts of kinds do you think this book is going to mention? [make a list]

At the beginning of the year it is crucial to talk about building relationships with each other to help build a community for our classroom. If we have a strong community our classroom will thrive. Students are told they need to be good friends but that is a very abstract idea for them, especially at 5 and 6 years old. I love this book because it is simple and the illustrations are amazing! Students can see how easy it really is to make someone else's day feel special. I am excited to read this to my students the first week of school and see how it impacts them.
A bold and clear simple picture book that can be a great opening story time book. Bright illustrations and rhyming text depict different ways to greet people that children can mimic. Highly recommended as a toddler or preschool story time book.
Brilliant & clear illustrations, this simple book would be an excellent addition to read-alouds, especially in book book format. The author uses a simple rhyme scheme to discuss ways to greet people, and storytellers could easily invite children to mimic certain greetings (e.g. curtsy, wiggle, giggle). Highly recommended, especially for young children.

Cute, but not overly memorable. The big illustrations are fun, and would be helpful during a storytime. The rhyme scheme got to me - I kept trying to predict the rhyme, but it kept changing - ABCB, ABC (unless "kiss" and "happiness" are the rhyme? In which case ABB), ABA, then back to ABCB. It didn't flow as well as it could have.
This would be a great little picture book to open a story time season with! Simple, rhyming text and crisp illustrations make it ideal for young children. And the topic is universal - different ways to say hello! I think it should be noted that this isn't a book with hellos in different languages, they are hellos with different gestures - hugs, kisses, cake (my fave), etc. Very cute and fun!
Colorful, joyful bold illustrations of various mostly nonverbal ways to great another person. Even as an adult it made me want to go say hello to someone. Good for the very young as sometimes many of them are shy about interacting with others. This title illustrates how to say hello very well.
A simple yet fun to look at book about a very ordinary greeting. Preschoolers will like the variety of ways that you can say hello, and the story will lend itself to lots of conversation about the actions.
