Nice details on Kamado's, accessories, and items needed to use them. The teaching recipes were ok. I did like the descriptions on how to cook those recipes and different styles using the Kamado. My biggest disappointment was the recipes at the back of the book. They just seem so out there and probably something I will never cook. For as much as it cost I was really hoping for some more accessible recipes for my Kamado.

Introduction
Hot Coals is a collection of history, science and insights on how to master cooking on the kamado grill, and I received a copy of this book in advance of getting the Big Green Egg This 150+ page book goes into great detail of the different techniques one needs to master in order to get the most use out of the kamado grill. Chef Jeroen Hazebroek and Leonard Elenbaas even give you a little historical context for how the kamado grill came to be the best device to cook with period.

Why You Should Read This Book?
If you are like me and own a kamado grill you have probably at this point really only used it to cook in a couple of ways. Few of us really know the versatility of the kamado grill and chefs Hazebroek and Elenbaas showcase the grill’s range in the book.
All in all, they lay out 13 different techniques and skills that the kamado grill offers and they even include 30 recipes for you to try. Each of the recipes included help you to master one of the 13 different techniques. It’s an easy read with a ton of good content for grill enthusiasts everywhere.

Final Thoughts
The goal of Hot Coals is to help people become more effective with their use of the kamado grill, and this book is perfectly laid out to do just that. Hot Coals will help you learn the secrets of the kamado grill and give you cooking techniques that you didn’t even know where possible on this grill. Once you cook on a kamado grill, the idea of using any other method of cooking evaporates pretty quickly. Hot Coals only helps to drive this point home further.

Good book about the technicalities of cooking on a kamado. Gives a fair bit of attention to smoke, flavour, fuel, and accessories. And most of all the proper ways to light and use your kamado, including explanations on common problems and how to fix them. Very good information for beginners.

The recipes though, differ in quality, some are a bit far fetched. I don't think I'll use more than one or two.

Excellent, clear book full of useful, detailed advice, covering the full spectrum of what you can do with a kamado. As far as I can tell it's the only kamado reference book on the market that is so thorough.

The recipes are a nice bonus.
