Taming His Mercenary

Rate this book
When a missing persons case turns into a race to save a woman from human traffickers, Christian Storm and Rick North must not only deal with the increasingly dangerous situation, but also the stormy emotions building between them.

Coworkers and best friends, Rick and Christian have always worked together seamlessly, but that is beginning to change. Rick has been denying his true feelings for Christian for years, but has finally been pushed to his breaking point. He decides it’s time to either move forward with Christian or move on.

Christian’s a one-night-stand kind of guy who lives for fun and has no interest in a serious relationship. When Rick lays his feelings on the line one night, Christian doesn’t know what to do. He’s never thought of Rick as anything more than a friend, and is terrified that no matter how he responds to Rick’s revelation their friendship will never be the same.

When the criminals they are chasing bring the fight to their doorstep one of their own is captured. Christian and Rick must put aside their emotions and work together like never before in order to stay one step ahead of the danger that threatens their very lives.

With so much on the line, will Rick and Christian be able to give love a chance, or are the odds against them stacked too high?

Having experienced love's ultimate betrayal once, Christian is determined never to open himself up to that kind of pain again.

Shook to the core by Christian's injury during a previous mission, Rick is forced to face his feelings for Christian, even if it means risking losing his best friend.

I fell in love with Vanessa's mercenaries while reading His Mercenary, so when Vanessa asked me three months ago what I thought about Rick and Christian being the focus of book two I was ecstatic.

It was my pleasure to serve as a sounding board during the development of TAMING HIS MERCENARY. As I watched the magic that Vanessa created between Christian and Rick take form I knew that this book was going to be something special.

Well written, fast paced and loaded with sensual chemistry, TAMING HIS MERCENARY is Vanessa's best book by far. The action, adventure, suspense and drama carried me away. With a cliffhanger ending, I'm counting down the days until book 3 is published!

This is the second in a series, so I would recommend that you read His Mercenary first. The lead characters here are part of the team of mercenaries which feature in both books. I am going to assume that you have read, or don't intend to read the first book in my review, so if you do - then please do and then come back!

Now that Chase and Cameron are together in the team house, their PDAs have poor Rick thinking about his best friend Christian even more. His unrequited love, to which only Christian seems oblivious, hurts every time he sees Christian hook up. Add this stress to another intense case, and things are likely to fly, or get hit!

Hot story, with cliffhanger ending - thank goodness I've got the next one lined up on my Kindle.

I am so glad I read Taming His Mercenary. After the first book in the series I wasn't so sure I would continue. His Mercenary was okay but it didn't grab me and hold me in the story. Don't get me wrong Chase and Cameron had a good story, but it just felt like something was missing.

I was pleasantly surprised with Rick and Christian's story. There was a nice balance between the developing love story and the action. It played very well together. Loved the ending! I really want to know more about Killian. There is something so interesting about his character.

I can't wait to see what's next in Freeing His Mercenary.

i enjoyed this book much more than the first one, i felt that we knew the characters more after the brief introductions in this first book. Christian is gun shy when it comes to relationships and love because of what happened to him in his past, he did notice that his best friend had a secret too. i really enjoyed watching the struggle between these two. holy cliffhanger batman!! I am now waiting on book three to see what will happen between Christian and Rick.

this is a great read.

All books in the series so far are short reads, and can all be read in a few hours. It felt like the action/suspense elements were resolved to easily/quickly throughout all the books and this book has a cliffhanger. Overall I found the series so far an okay read, and as I read ARCs, I hope that the grammatical errors have been corrected.

ARCs received in exchange for an honest review.

Christian and Rick have worked together well for a long time, now they're looking for a woman who's been taken by human traffickers. Despite their working relationship, Rick has been crushing on Christian for some time but Christian just can't seem to see the signs. When Rick lays things on the line Christian doesn't know how to react. He's never considered a serious relationship before but suddenly he doesn't want anyone else touching Rick. Finding the girl sends the trafficker after them. Will Christian ever get the happy ending he now wants with Rick? I'll have to find out in the next in this series.

I was looking forward to reading more about the mercenaries and I was not disappointed in anyway with this book. Once again the story was fast paced and well written. It was full of action and suspense.

I loved Rick and felt sorry for him loving someone who didn't get it. But once Christian did figure it out the chemistry between the two was amazing.

I love quick series that keep you wanting to read more. I definitely can't wait for the next book.

I have to say after the first book, this one was much better. I liked that the characters had history together and knew each other long enough to really have feelings for each other.

I do wish there would have been more emotion included in the book. A lot of it felt like we were being told what they felt instead of shown it. Meaning, instead of the characters exhibiting emotions and things like tender caresses and feeling rough skin we were told it was simply love and sex. It lacked sensuality in the sex scenes.

Overall, not a bad book, but I think there is definitely room to grow and expand upon the story and what is happening as I said with emotions and feeling to make the characters come to life and help the reader relate to them. Also, I'd like to know how they are 'there to serve' when mercenary's need to have someone paying their contracts as they are not part of the government.

Once again I would say that there is a lot of sentences structured the same (words ending with -ing starting sentence after sentence).

Since this one was better than the last, I must say I'm eager to read the next installment.. Be warned this one does have a killer cliffhanger as well.

Taming His Mercenary (Mercenary In Love Book 2)

Book 2 starts right where book 1 left off. It is well written, fast paced and loaded with sexual chemistry.

Christian and Rick have been best friends for years. Rick has wanted more, and Christian has been blind to that fact.
Rick is a tough guy but wants someone to share his life with. Christian is more of a one night stand guy due to his heart being broken in the past.
When Rick lets Christian know how he feels the feelings are not reciprocated so Rick goes out and finds someone to ease his pain. Christian is not happy and gets jealous when he realizes that Rick is moving on.

Rick tried to hide that he was in love with Christian, but when they went out as a group he slipped up sometimes. It was hard watching the man you love with someone else.

"It has everything to do with it. You tell me you love me, then the next day you are kissing another man." Christian stated as he walked into Rick's personal space.

We get to see Chase and Cameron from book 1 as they still try to find the leader of the trafficking ring Angelo Marini. Also we hear more from Killian another member of the team which I am hoping finds love in book 3. Did I mention the cliffhanger……. What??? when is the next book out?
Great series but still wishing the books were longer.

Even Better Than the First
This is the second book in the Mercenary in Love Series. If you haven't read the first, His Mercenary, I would recommend reading it before reading this one.
I have to say that I enjoyed this book better than the first. It seemed not as rushed and it flowed more easily than the first. It was still a fast paced plot with a good amount of action, but in a good way. These are short reads. I read this as the first in very little time. It was well written, and the characters are well developed, and in this installment there was more of a balance between the action and the romance. This is the story of Christian and Rick. Rick has had feelings for Christian for quite some time, yet Christian remains oblivious. Rick comes to the conclusion that he has to fess up to Christian about how he feels, and see if there is anything there, or move on. To find out what happens you will have to read the book. I will put a warning in here though. This book ends in a huge cliffhanger but luckily part three is already out.

This was the first book by Bailey Bradford I've read, but I'd heard that she was a great author... I can say all the hype is true. She's amazing. I absolutely loved this book.

The characters were very well developed and watching them grow not only as individual's but as a couple was really quite nice. It's amazing how often that is left out of stories.

I literally couldn't read this fast enough. There is just the right amount of suspense between finding out if the prophecy is true and what happened to poor Roman.

The twist between Gideon looking like the big, dominant guy while Miller was the shorter one who was often presumed to be submissive because of his stature was great.. Appearances aren't what they seem and they were exactly the opposite and it completely worked for them.

I can't wait to get to the next book!!! I hope we get to watch as the den embraces their new ability to shift and grow only stronger than what they had when that had been stripped from them.

4.5 to 5 stars.
This is the story of Rick and Christian: they're mercenaries and best frinds but Rick wants more from Christian. Christian is a free spirit and when Rick confesses his love for him, Christian doesn't want to change their friendship for something more: he's worried that he will lose his best friend if they don't work as a couple. Rick doesn't want to wait forever so he decides to go out with Elliott, a man he meets in a bar the same night Christian pushes him away. But, something is not right.
But, after knowing about Rick's date, Christian feels something inside him..something he never felt before, not especially towards Rick: jealousy.
The end made me scream: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!".
Do you want to know why?
Read the book and you'll see! :)
Can't wait for book 3!!

received a copy of this book for an honest review from DRC's Review Team. I enjoyed the story but the book was TOO SHORT!!It was a well written and fast paced read. This is the story of Rick and Christian, Rick has feelings for Christian, that he is trying to deny. Christian is a bit of a man-whore, one night stands only, never a relationship. They are best friends, co-workers mercenaries and live together in the same house(different rooms) .Christian also has feelings for Rick, but both are afraid to act on their feelings, for fear of the effect it will have on their friendship, work relationship, Will it? Will they have a chance, after admitting their feelings for each other? Can it work? This book has suspense, action, adventure and lots of drama. The characters from book 1 and book 2 are well developed or continuing to be developed. This story was more developed than book 1, looking forward to book 3, Freeing Hie Mercenary. This is a M/M bromance/romance. 4 12/ stars.

We met Christian and Rick in the previous book although we didn't see much of them beyond Christian's memoriable getting shot in the butt moment.

In this one we see that Rick has had feelings for Christian for a long time and has to decide wether to finally tell him the truth or move on.

When Christian find out about Ricks feelings will he open up and see where things go or will he think that being just friends is better than anything else with Rick?

Christian is a dive right in kinda guy when it comes to life he's not patient, but one thing he doesn't do is relationships.

Rick takes things in and bides his time before taking action, he doesn't do anything rash. He's a tough guy but wants someone to share his life with.

These two have their share of ups and downs, but it's the ending of this one that's the catcher! This one is Cliffhanger central and I'm excited to see what happens between these two in the next novel that is a continuation of their story!

Taming His Mercenary is the second book in the Mercenary in Love series. This book was another good book that kept me glued to my kindle again. I was glad that this one was a little bit longer to enjoy the story. I was excited to read more about the Mercenaries.

Taming His Mercenary is about Rick's and Christian's story. They have been friends for years but Rick wanted more than friendship. Christian is injured from one of the mission's that they were on. Both of the guys are very different Rick is a tough guy who wants to share his life with someone that he deeply cares about. While Christian is a night stand type of guy.

This book was better than the first and we get to see more of the characters from the first one. Looking forward to see what happens in the third book. Also to find out what is up with Killian another team member.

Taming His Mercenary (Mercenary In Love Book 2)

This was just OK. Shouldn't compare but couldn't help to think I liked the first one better when I finished.
Still a short story (though the cliffhanger at the end means it's not so short since there's another short story coming your way) and still almost no depth to it. Or the MCs
But while all that worked for me in the first installment, didn't so much in this one.
I think I just couldn't connect to the MCs here. Or anyone else for that matter.
Best friends to lovers is always scary but the cliffhanger made it all just really, really hard to believe... and too cliche, probably that didn't help matters.
I still enjoy the book and will read the next one.
Probably the next after that too if there's justice in the world for Killian.
Mostly cause the direct way of telling the story, the no-nonsense policy at work in this series, works for me somehow.

Enjoy!

Taming His Mercenary is the second book in Mercenary In Love series. I have been looking forward to it. I will admit to being slightly disappointed but not too much. I was hoping for more detail and description about what was going on, but the story was really good. This book picks up where His Mercenary left off and ends on a serious cliff hanger, luckily book 3 is already out.

Rick has been suffering from unrequited love for a long time now. He has been in love with his best friend Christian who spend more time in other's beds than his own. Painful but true. Finally light bulb is turned on for Christian and he is forced to see his own feelings for what they are. Everything changes.

Giving love a chance is a scary thing. When danger knocks on their door and they have to put aside their tumultuous feelings for each other to find their missing it becomes even more so.

Another great novella by VS!

This one picks up right where bk 1 left off, so no confusing time gap.

Christian and Rick have been best friends for yrs. Rick has wanted more, and Christian has been blind to that fact.
Called out to another kidding napping case, the team discovers nothing is as normal as it should be.

The chemistry between the friends is amazing you can feel the pain that Christian is causing Rick. The tension between all the team members, the heartache, the joy.
Vanessa as a true gift to put such feelings into a piece of work.

This is book 2 of the Mercenary in love series. I am not a huge fan of male love story, but I'm hooked on this one. The character development is outstanding and the way you feel like this team could be real. I love the story line and the strong sense of right and wrong. This are real tough men's men. Excited to read book 3!

Christian and Rick = HOTNESS. Having worked together for years Rick has known he was in love with Christian for awhile however Christian is a love em and leave em type and doesn't see what's right in front of him.
As they chase down a human trafficking ring can they work things out and either remain friends or become lovers? What a great addition to the first book, loved it.

I'm a sucker for the gay romance friends to lovers trope so this was a no brainer to read. The romance was superficially entertaining with plenty of sex, though no real emotionally intimacy that I most enjoy in erotic romance. The mystery was expected as was the cliffhanger ending. Still it was a fun romp and I may look out for the next one, if I remember.
