Neverland is just a story passed down from my batty ancestor Wendy about boys who never wanted to grow up. And that’s all it is to me until I’m kidnapped by a man with a twinkle in his eye and a shadow that does his dirty work. Peter Pan. But he’s not a kid anymore. He says he wants to protect me from Captain Hook, that together we can save Neverland from endless night. All I have to do is tell him stories. Tale after tale. Night after night. I do as he asks, and slowly, he becomes more than just a muddled myth from long ago. He’s a man, one who no longer accepts acorns when what he truly wants is a kiss. I know it’s a delusion, one that might claim my life. Even so, I begin to put my faith in Peter and his Lost Boys. Until I'm captured by Captain Hook whose wicked tongue and evil ways are far more dangerous than I ever imagined...

I didn't realize how much I miss reading Peter Pan retelling till I read this! I loved every minute I spent reading and absolutely devoured it! The world building and how the islands were described were well done. I will say there are times when Moira annoyed me to where I wanted to throw her overboard, but she had her moments. James Hook was definitely villian eye candy in her for sure 😂 🥵
Theres only one word that describes how this series made me feel and its UNCOMFORTABLE. I felt so slimey and weird reading this book. The entire first book was Peter and the lost boys harassing her. Shes constantly telling them to leave her alone and that they are making her uncomfortable. They dont stop and then shes forced to sleep in the same bed as them because thats how it is. Add on the very child like nature of Peter and the lost boys even though they are grown men, it made the story weirder. Id like to say it got better when Hook was introduced but it didnt. I dont know why I finished the entire book, but I did. I wanted it to get better. I love love retellings, but this one was a disaster. It was creepy and gross.
This was such an interesting take on Neverland. It had the right amount of adventure, mystery, action, betrayal, heartwarming and heartbreaking moments! It had it all! There was a lot going on. So many curve balls and unexpected everything's happening all around. It was amazingly fun trying to put the pieces together and try to figure out where it was all leading. I know not all stories are for everyone but this one is definitely worth giving a try! Lily Archer always has a way with her words and stories. This might be a series I would enjoy rereading all over again!
emotional roller coaster and a very good fairy tale retelling
A very good fairy tale retelling of Peter Pan. I liked how dark he turned out, the Lost Boys and the shadow children (a bit creepy), Morias romance with James. And the overall story line kept me on my toes. Towards the end I would have loved a bit more of their happily ever after. They worked so hard for it. But overall this is a definitely reread for me and will be on my trophy bookshelf for sure.
