Hebrew Title: העכבר שקפץ על הראש של כולם

Age: 1-3+ years

Synopsis: In this whimsical tale from Israeli author and illustrator Ami Rubinger, a mischievous mouse hops on top of the heads of some rather shocked animals and does his business (poops) until one day a bird flies over him and our little mouse “hero” suffers the same fate.

Bilingual benefit: Like all of Mr. Rubinger’s children’s picture books in Hebrew and Engish, the book rhymes well and requires the reader to complete the rhymes. Our toddler is able to complete the rhymes easily in Hebrew. Mr. Rubinger’s books are also particularly useful to non-native Hebrew speakers as the Hebrew is accompanied by vowels.

Availability in Israel: The Hebrew version was just published in the summer of 2014 and is currently being featured in Steimatzky and Tzomet Sfarim. While this book has an English title, I have not yet been able to locate it and, thus, have not been able to review the English version.

Previewing the book: As this book was just published, neither the Hebrew nor English version (assuming that there is one) appear to be readily available online yet.

Lil guy: While I suspect that it is only a matter of time before the mouse’s shenanigans will induce fits of uncontrollable laughter, our toddler has not yet reached the age where all things related to the bathroom are hysterical. For now, our lil guy enjoys admonishing the mouse that his behavior is “not nice.” He also likes the illustrations of the animals.

Mama: This book might be a turn off for those who are not comfortable with potty humor. However, as a super fan of Mr. Rubinger’s beautifully illustrated, absurd kiddie books, I just had to add it to our collection. This book also adds levity and silliness to potty-training!
