Узагальнивши свій досвід життя в різних суспільних та національних формаціях, роботи в різних професійних сферах та на різних посадах, Богдан Гаврилишин представив у книзі «До ефективних суспільств: Дороговкази в майбутнє» методику аналізу суспільних настроїв, що дає змогу порівнювати різні нації-держави й давати досить точні прогнози їх подальшого розвитку. До речі, в першому видання 1979-го р. було зпрогнозовано розпад СРСР, що зайвий раз доводить ефективність авторських розробок.

«Книга має три різні аспекти, три різні підходи, які водночас доповнюють один одного. Перший – аналітичний, за допомогою якого я намагаюся визначити основні причини або передумови того, що одні суспільства виявляються ефективнішими за інші. Другий – рекомендаційний, який дає змогу з огляду на попередній аналіз радити, що слід змінити в суспільному ладі тих чи тих країн, щоб підвищити ефективність його функціонування. Третій – прогнозний. Він допомагає визначити ймовірність здійснення запропонованих змін, а в разі неможливості їх реалізації – передбачити найвірогідніші й найсприятливіші зміни», - зазначає у передмові до третього українського видання Богдан Гаврилишин.

Prof. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn, an internationally acclaimed leading expert on issues of public administration and global business. The Full member of the Club of Rome and long-time director of Switzerland’s International Management Institute.

Prof Hawrylyshyn was born in Western Ukraine. In 1947, he left for Canada and obtained a Masters degree in Engineering (1954, Toronto University). Having worked for a multinational company he was sent to the International Management Institute in Switzerland (IMI). In 1960, Hawrylyshyn started his career in educational sphere, teaching economics, global business, international operations management and public administration at IMI in Geneva. In 1968, he became the Director of the Institute and remained its head for 18 years. In 1972, he was elected to the Roman club, in 1973 to the International Management Academy, in 1975 – the World Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Hawrylyshyn was awarded a Doctorate of Economics of Geneva University (1976), Honorary Doctorate of Law of York University (Canada, 1984) and Alberta University (Canada, 1986).

Since 1988, Hawrylyshyn has committed his activity to Ukraine. He initiated the establishment of the first institution in the former USSR which provided MBA program training (MIM-Kyiv). In 1989, he contributed to the establishment of the Soros Foundation in Ukraine (chaired its Supervisory Board until 1998). In 1991, Hawrylyshyn created and became the head of the Council of Advisors to the Presidium of the Ukrainian Parliament, was a member of the American-Ukrainian Advisory Board, an advisor to the first president of Ukraine, four chairmen of the Parliament and three prime-ministers.

Now Bohdan Hawrylyshyn is a board member of the World Academy of Art and Sciences, the head of Ukrainian National Scout Organization, a member of the Executive Committee of the Swiss International Policy Forum, and the head of Supervisory Board of MIM-Kyiv. His published papers include more than 120 articles in management, economic and political environment and 4 books.

Very generalized writing with lots of platitudes, subjective opinions without backing and very-very few citations, evidence and historic perspective. Perhaps can serve as an introduction to a much more detailed study of the topic. As a standalone book its of a very limited value (for a non-fiction book especially).
